This is one of my favorite boba shops in Southern California. I always love a boba shop that brews the tea for each order. They over a great variety of teas that you can choose from and options to fully customize your drink, including choosing the tea, the type of milk, toppings and sugar and ice levels. The space has a lot of tables and outlets for you to study or work there which is rare these days for tea shops. Most are just togo now. This is one of my favorite stops whenever I'm in SGV. read more

A special shout-out to Mavis, who was incredibly patient with our indecisive group, especially while we were managing kids. I followed her recommendation and ordered the Iron Buddha Oolong (70% sweet). One sip confirmed it was much too sweet for my taste--honestly, like eating a slice of Costco birthday cake! My friends mentioned that the staff is great about adjustments, so I went back to the counter, and they were more than happy to fix it for me. Lesson learned: I'll definitely be ordering 50% sweetness or less moving forward, as these drinks are quite rich. I would definitely come back to try more of their menu. Formosa Aroma in Alhambra is the brand's first and original location. I believe they now have a few storefronts, all within California. They stand out for their very large selection of teas, as well as customizable tea options. I like that they also offer unique house-made toppings like black sweet rice, rose cream foam, and matcha pudding. My go-to drinks are the Hojicha Tiramisu Black Tea Latte and Uji Matcha Latte. The tiramisu layer makes the drink very creamy and rich. It works perfectly with the roasted, nutty hojicha flavor. As for the uji matcha latte, it has a slightly sweet creaminess with just the right ratio of matcha and milk. A nice little perk is that they always have a BOGO free drink deal, which rotates every week. However, every BOGO drink I've tried is pretty basic and nothing special. I got pineapple passion fruit Yerba Mate tea. It had a lot of pineapple pieces. It is herbal tea and it tasted like medicine to me but my hubby liked it So he took over my drink and I ordered Oolong milk tea with jelly. I liked it so much better. They have milk alternatives and even different tea types. I also loved the white peach green tea I got the previous visit. It had a nice fragrance. The tea is good here. I mean the actual tea...and they have quite a few tea options ... different oolong and green types. My hubby liked his Matcha pudding milk tea. I frequent the location in Temple City but sine my husband and I were in the general area, we decided to come to this location on a Saturday afternoon, a little before 1:45 pm. This location is very close to BBQ chicken. We were able to park on the curb. We decided to get the buy one get one free special, which was the Golden Phoenix Oolong Milk Tea, $7.50 prior to tax. We made medications that included no boba, no ice and no sugar. Often times, I like to have my sweetness level at either zero or 25% (or 30% if that is the next lowest the tea shop can go to) sweetness level. My husband and I both thought this drink was good. It was similar to a classic milk tea drink, but a little lighter. Service wasn't as friendly as the location in Temple City and the unisex restroom wasn't as clean either. But overall, we had a good experience. Wait time for our drinks wasn't too long, about 5-6 minutes. I still prefer the Temple City location but would come here if I was in the area. The moment you walk into Formosa Aroma, you can smell how fragrant it is. I decided to customize my tea and went with Rooibos Milk Tea that had 50% sugar, oat milk and purple sweet rice for my topping. The tea flavor is a bit on the lighter side and I do wish that the purple rice was sweeter. There was plenty of seating and I liked how they were charged by the tables. The interior is nice and to the left of the register you can see what kinds of teas you can use to customize your drink which was a nice touch. They had small pictures of the different types of tea leaves with their names along the wall before you order, but that was it. Didn't wanna make my friend break the bank treating me to some milk tea, so didn't add any toppings (wasn't in the mood for any, anyway), but a tea/milk tea here will run you like $6.5 before any toppings. I'd say this is absolutely one of the more pricey places. Do I think it was worth it? Ehh. I thought the milk tea I got was really solid. I thought 50% was not quite sweet enough for me, but the tea flavor was very prominent. I'm not a tea connesiuer or anything, but I shared some with my husband when I got home and he thought it was good. It was good, but not my favorite tea place. The employee taking the order was nice but the time it took to get the drinks out was kinda a long time. But it was fine nothing too terrible. The drinks were really good though! The rose dreamer oolong had a delicious rose panna cotta at the bottom, rose oolong tea, and a rose cheese foam top! Honestly soo good I love rose and floral flavors in general!!! The sesame typhoon slush was also good but I think doing 100% sugar next time would be better instead of 75%, I think the crushed ice melts too fast and messes with the sweetness level in the slush. The green tea itself was very bitter and the pineapple chunks inside tasted very old. The drink tasted better watered down so I don't recommend this. (1/5) Overall, Formosa Aroma is a huge pass. So, it was perfect that I got it at 50% sweet. The milk tea part wasn't sweet and the rest are, so it worked out okay (kinda balance it out). Other notes, I don't like the non dairy creamer aspect. Came to this place randomly after having dim sum at lunasia. I've never heard of it so I didn't know what to expect but the interior looked legit as they had loose leaf tea on display. As soon as I saw it, I had a feeling their teas would be brewed to perfection! There were so many options to choose from, but I just chose the BOGO because I love good deals!! I was blown away! I've been waiting to try this place for a while, and finally got the chance. I got three items, and it came out to under $28. The Rose Dreamer Oolong is SO good!! I didn't know if I'd like it because some places have too much rose flavor and some don't have enough. It was perfect. I got it with 50% ice and 70% sweet. It was plenty sweet. If you like rose or floral flavors, I would highly recommend it. I also got the Basil Seed Wintermelon Calamansi tea for my mom. She said it was good. I ordered umeyaki with black sesame filling. One order came with four pieces. I was looking forward to this. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed with the filling. I was expecting the lava ooze that most black sesame fillings have (think tangyuan fillings), but it was grainy. It seemed like some of the granulated sugar didn't melt because I saw them in the filling. The black sesame flavor was strong. Service was good, and the person helping me explained things well. He also helped me tape the lid for my Rose Dreamer Oolong because he said the cap is finnicky and he didn't want my drink to spill. I didn't get his name, but shout out to him! There's a parking lot off 5th and 6th street that you can park in. Beware...if you go around mealtimes, there's very limited parking. You're going to be circling the structure several times. It's not that big, and some spaces are reserved for Cathay Bank and etc. Beware again...when you're circling the parking structure you have to be very careful. Other people are also circling, and they don't care if you need to get by. There were several times I almost got hit by another car because they were too busy looking for parking spots and not paying attention to where they were going. I went for the B1G1 boba oolong milk tea series. They offered the Ember oolong Boba milk tea at the Temple City location, and the Frozen Summit Oolong boba milk tea at the Alhambra location. The drink itself was okay, but not something I'd order again. The tea taste was more on the light side and the boba wasn't chewy. Next time I'll be back to order my usual. I got a custom drink with Dancing Crane Black Tea, oat milk, and Ube taro purée. I asked the staff which teas were the least bitter and they recommended the dancing crane black tea. I was worried it would be bitter as a black tea but with the normal sugar levels, I couldn't taste any bitterness! Plus I get more caffeine than in green tea or oolong. I really enjoyed how light and smooth my drink felt. My drink ended up being just under $9 (mainly because the purée costs extra), which is a pricey for a drink but worth it for a first try. I would recommend the 50% sweetness because at 50% it already was quite sweet. - The typhoon blended consistency was perfect with the blended ice shards yet smooth texture. - The black sesame midnight is a black sesame panna cotta x black sesame crème foam. I loved the panna cotta, it's smooth yet grainy from the sesame while the crème foam on top is basically just the black sesame typhoon drink. - The oolong milk tea was a really nice tea flavor and the boba is perfectly chewy. I have been coming here for multiple times for their drinks and so far I love it! It is a small place for a boba shop but it is a pretty good place to chill when the place is not crowded. The servers are very nice and patient when you are ordering your drinks. The place in general are clean, even with the restroom. The drinks are fantastic in my opinion, no matter what sweetness level you are going for. My personal favorite/ to-go are the rose cream foam milk tea or formosa ocean. I had a really great experience here and thoroughly enjoyed my Jazmine green milk tea with the right amount of Boba. I think there was a perfect rat ratio from drink to Boba and also the perfect ratio from tea to milk. I really enjoyed the two of the Boba and this was a great "pick me up" from a long day that I had. The two employees that I interacted with were very patient with me and had a lot of knowledge on the different teas and had great customer service , very friendly and happy! read more
