a tea shop with a variety of items
    Johnny W.

Summary: High quality tea tastings, by appointment only Details: My girlfriend and I have found tea tastings to be a nice way to try out a variety of teas we might not normally think to try, or easily have access to. The Bay Area is flush with tea shops that offer tastings, so we're always on the lookout for similar when traveling. SoCal, rather surprisingly, is lacking in this area, and Tea Habitat was one of these few places that popped up on our radar after a bit of research. $45pp gets you multiple steepings of five teas of choice over the course of a couple hours, from an extensive variety of Chinese teas, with some of the more premium options (largely puerh) running an additional per person cost. Depending on your timing and what you're drinking, you may get a lot more than the five steepings as well: we actually finished our tasting with one of the first pick puerhs that ran an extra $60pp, and probably got close to ten steepings, only stopping because we hit our caffeine and liquid intake limits and just simply could not continue. Because these are all by appointment only, your party and the owner, Imen, will be the only ones in the shop, which makes for a pretty chill tea tasting experience compared to the others we've been to in the Bay, which are usually held in loud, packed shops full of other customers. Fortunately, Imen is a great conversationalist, so you're not awkwardly sitting there for hours drinking tea in silence, though I'm sure she'd accommodate that too if you so wished. Getting to the shop can be a little difficult, being tucked away on the bottom floor of a mixed commercial/residential complex. Access is either through a gate that's usually open on S 5th St, or through a door in the back of the garage complex whose entrance is on the same street. If you get lost, just give the shop a ring. Accessibility: The shop is pretty small, but the tasting area, at the very least, is fairly accessible. I never checked out the restroom since we were headed back to the hotel immediately after, but since the shop is supposed to be coded for access, I would not be surprised if the restroom was accessible as well.

There's no food at this place! Just tea! There's only one person holding down the shop so the service is great! The ambiance is really quiet and I definitely recommend it for tea enthusiasts!

We had three people and Gold Tasting!

After visiting Tea Habitat, I can honestly say I felt more proud of my roots! My favorite tea is Phoenix shit, Milky duck shit is a must try not only for the laughs but for taste. If you are looking for an authentic Tea spot please check it out. They also sell mini tea pots and were on LA times, LA magazine and Eater.

They have some tables but not enough for a place to hangout to be honest. Their whole concept is pretty much a open kitchen, order and walk to the back and wait for your order. Can get pretty cramped but that's just how their shop is designed. Parking - Free in a one way outdoor lot. If it's full, there's the plaza right next door and/or street parking, plenty overall. Their menu is quite extensive, from teas, boba, coffee, fruit teas, they've got it all. For first timers, they have a signature section which I think is basically their most popular drinks, they're all recommended to try. My wife and I ordered the Oreo Matcha Brulee and the Uji Matcha Latte to share, both came out pretty quickly, around 5 minutes or so. I'm a huge sucker for oreo matcha brulee type drinks and this place made it perfectly. Each sip is full of the ingredients, very refreshing, and perfect sweetness in my opinion with 30% - 60% sugar level. Overall, great tea shop, it's pretty ironic to find a place that's just called "The Tea" which can be hard to search up, but their drinks are high quality, staff is quick, and their shop is clean. Very impressed.

This drink instantly brightens my day. The staff are friendly and ordering from the self-service kiosk makes it quick and easy. It's definitely a grab and go spot. The only downside is that the shop is tucked toward the back of the plaza, somewhat hidden and parking can be difficult during busy times. I usually have better luck finding street parking. With so many tea shops popping up, Chun Yang continues to be one of my tried and true favorites- a perfect fusion of traditional and modern.

The drinks were watered down in comparison to other places despite being less ice for two drinks. The hojicha latte with brown sugar pearls is only available on weekends. The tea taste and milk didn't mesh together well. Oolong tea with pudding also tasted more like water than tea. The pudding was overwhelming. It is similar (if not the same) as ones you get from japanese convenience stores. For the price point, I would have expected berger taste and quality. The wait wasn't worth it for what was being served. I don't think I'd come back to this location but might give it another try elsewhere.
