a tea shop with a variety of items
    Johnny W.

Summary: High quality tea tastings, by appointment only Details: My girlfriend and I have found tea tastings to be a nice way to try out a variety of teas we might not normally think to try, or easily have access to. The Bay Area is flush with tea shops that offer tastings, so we're always on the lookout for similar when traveling. SoCal, rather surprisingly, is lacking in this area, and Tea Habitat was one of these few places that popped up on our radar after a bit of research. $45pp gets you multiple steepings of five teas of choice over the course of a couple hours, from an extensive variety of Chinese teas, with some of the more premium options (largely puerh) running an additional per person cost. Depending on your timing and what you're drinking, you may get a lot more than the five steepings as well: we actually finished our tasting with one of the first pick puerhs that ran an extra $60pp, and probably got close to ten steepings, only stopping because we hit our caffeine and liquid intake limits and just simply could not continue. Because these are all by appointment only, your party and the owner, Imen, will be the only ones in the shop, which makes for a pretty chill tea tasting experience compared to the others we've been to in the Bay, which are usually held in loud, packed shops full of other customers. Fortunately, Imen is a great conversationalist, so you're not awkwardly sitting there for hours drinking tea in silence, though I'm sure she'd accommodate that too if you so wished. Getting to the shop can be a little difficult, being tucked away on the bottom floor of a mixed commercial/residential complex. Access is either through a gate that's usually open on S 5th St, or through a door in the back of the garage complex whose entrance is on the same street. If you get lost, just give the shop a ring. Accessibility: The shop is pretty small, but the tasting area, at the very least, is fairly accessible. I never checked out the restroom since we were headed back to the hotel immediately after, but since the shop is supposed to be coded for access, I would not be surprised if the restroom was accessible as well.

There's no food at this place! Just tea! There's only one person holding down the shop so the service is great! The ambiance is really quiet and I definitely recommend it for tea enthusiasts!

We had three people and Gold Tasting!

After visiting Tea Habitat, I can honestly say I felt more proud of my roots! My favorite tea is Phoenix shit, Milky duck shit is a must try not only for the laughs but for taste. If you are looking for an authentic Tea spot please check it out. They also sell mini tea pots and were on LA times, LA magazine and Eater.

I'm giving them 5 start based on their coffee…read more I got the Seasalt Cream OG and 2 toasted brown sugar Boba milks. The coffee was amazing. My husband makes me a coffee from a phin everyday day for work and this is exactly what it taste like except the cream which elevated the coffee even more. We came back from Vietnam and the coffee in America has been subpar. This has been the only place that I would come back to consistently. Only for their coffee. My children like the Toastes Brown Sugar Boba and finished it quicker than most other places. There is a touch screen to order. I was nicely greeted when I walked in and the store was very clean with a a lot of seating. I found it odd that the middle was long and you have to walk towards the back to get your drink. But overall I'm coming back for that coffee!!!

The boba is definitely honey soaked, which means that I can lower the sugar amount in my tea and the drink will still be sweet enough. When the boba isn't sweet, it really ruins the experience of having boba with your drink. I haven't had a bad experience with my drinks so far, but $7.20 is a bit high, so I can't come that often. Parking is also limited in front. Only two spots! However, there is a lot to the right, you just have to walk a little bit, but it's not too bad.

Adjustable ice (for cold drinks) and sweetness levels. The drink quality was superb. Very fresh, expertly and carefully crafted. Maximal flavor. Clean store. Small strip mall parking. It's nestled in a little plaza with minimal parking. Luckily, we went on a weekday and there were at least 2 parking spots open. The shop itself is small-- as soon as you enter, the register is right there with the self service kiosk to the left and the waiting area to the right. Even though there was only 1 party ahead of us, it took around 15-20 minutes to get our drinks. But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since we ordered a lot of drinks. For myself, I was able to try the traditional roasted oolong milk tea with pearl and the hojicha latte-- both at 70% sweet. I have a sweet tooth, so the sweetness was at a perfect level for both. However, I didn't get that much of a strong roasted oolong taste in the milk tea as I've gotten from other boba shops. The hojicha latte was good enough, but also did not have that strong, nutty taste in comparison to others. I am more of a milk tea person, but maybe next time I'll try the honey osthamnthus tea since a lot of people seem to love it!

I just finished a hike in Altadena, found Callisto on Yelp, and wandered in looking for a quiet post-trail moment. Instead, I was met with such a genuine warmth that made me feel like a guest instead of a transaction. The owner herself took my afternoon in a much softer direction. I ordered the afternoon tea service and fell into my book. This is the kind of place that invites you to read, write, and decompress. My tea of choice: Yellow Brick Road with osmanthus flowers blended with Darjeeling black tea. It tasted like sweet blossoms dipped in honey. The service also comes with three mini savory toasts, a scone with mascarpone cream and marmalade, and dessert. I chose the chocolate peanut butter cupcake which sent me into a blissful chocolate haze for the rest of the day. If you crave quiet, delicious, almost healing moments, you need to come here.
