From one of the best strawberry fluffy matcha to one of the worst. I used to go to the Arcadia location for the fluffy matcha. It was so good. I could actually taste the fresh milk. It was quality. The last time I was there, the quality went down. I felt like they changed the milk to a cheaper milk. I stopped going. Just found out that it closed down as well. I have also tried the strawberry fluffy matcha here once. Other times, I got their teas and milk teas with fresh bobas. It wasn't that great so that was the reason why I went to the Arcadia location even though this one was closer. I was near this location last night so decided to give it a try. Ordered 2 of the strawberry fluffy matcha with almond milk. It was pretty bland. Taste of matcha was weak. The almond milk somewhat tasted like water. Not sure why the quality gone down so much. Goodbye Tea Maru...
A well-known boba shop in the SGV, Tea Maru is most known for their fresh, housemade tapioca pearls. They make freshly brewed loose-leaf teas and use real ingredients, so don't expect your drink to be ready in a couple of minutes like some other shops. I would recommend trying their signature drinks first. Maru Milk, a signature drink and also their most popular drink, is a must-try. This drink is made of premium organic fresh milk combined with housemade brown sugar and creamy cheese foam. The drink is rich and creamy with caramel-like sweetness that does not taste artificial at all. Your choice of housemade boba is included with all the signature drinks. There is brown sugar boba, strawberry boba, and mango boba. You can even mix boba flavors, but I like to stick with one. The boba clearly tastes freshly made, having an enjoyable texture - a soft exterior and a chewy center. As for the shop itself, the atmosphere is quiet and relaxed, although I do think the decor looks outdated. There is free wifi, making it a good place to study or do work, but not so great for just hanging out with friends. Seating is fairly limited, with just a handful of tables inside.
Ordered on 2g2g Honestly, they said 18$ value and we got a milk tea and green tea both like $4. So essentially we paid full price and get horrible drinks with chunky milk topping in it and she was like oh you paid a lot for those drinks. It shouldn't have been so expensive. Bummer.
Creative drinks and great boba texture Stopped by Tea Maru and tried the mango matcha boba and taro boba. The mango matcha was refreshing and surprisingly well-balanced. The sweetness from the mango complemented the earthy matcha nicely, and the layers looked beautiful before mixing. The taro boba was creamy, smooth, and had a rich taro flavor without being overly sweet. The boba pearls were soft, chewy, and cooked just right. Every sip had a good amount of boba, which made the drinks even more enjoyable. Service was friendly and efficient, and the staff kept things moving quickly despite a steady flow of customers. Tea Maru's drinks were pretty good! We were looking around for some bubble tea/boba spots in San Gabriel and we were nearby so we gave it a try. The location is quite busy and the parking lot was full. We did find a spot on the street and just walked over. The location is small and seating is very limited. You can place your orders on the kiosk near the register. There's not much decoration going on, but you can study or do some work here. The drink menu is extensive and adjustments with sweetness can be made. We ended up trying the Okinawa Latte & Sweet Potato Fluffy Matcha. The drinks were made fast and we enjoyed them there. I really liked the Okinawa Latte. The roasted brown sugar flavor and black tea was great! It was a standout in terms of flavor and I think one of their top options. The Sweet Potato Fluffy Matcha was unique and not a bad option as well. My wife and I were pleased with the quality and taste of their drinks. Come by and give them a try. ( ^_^)b
I came here on a weekday late afternoon to get a boba drink. There was plenty of parking at this time. It was easy to order at the kiosk. I got the Maru Milk. The drink was sweet, and the boba was soft and chewy. When the order is ready, the person at the counter should call the name a little louder. I was close by and was watching, so I knew my drink was ready.
Tea Maru is located in San Gabriel in a small plaza on Las Tunas & Mission. Stopped in after a couple years. The space is bright and clean, with a long bench along the wall. However, there are too few tables to make it feel like a spot to hang out. Ordering is done at a kiosk, which feels a bit impersonal, and there was no greeting from the one employee behind the counter--even though we were the only customers. The kiosk also prompts for a tip before service, which didn't feel warranted based on our experience. On the plus side: The drinks were good. I had the Okinawa milk tea latte, subbing boba for pudding. It was nice to have options to change toppings, choose milk alternatives, adjust ice, and set your preferred level of sweetness. However, some substitutions did have extra costs. With so many tea/boba shops in the area, I think Tea Maru could step up by adding more tables, playing some music, and prioritizing customer service. As it stands, it feels like they're doing themselves a disservice.
This place has a Groupon deal that was like $10 for like $14 worth of drinks. Totally worth it since boba or matcha nowadays cost close to $8. Drinks: 5/5 I really liked my Taro Fluffy Matcha. They use real taro in the drink. It was not too sweet and had taro was in really good chunks that weren't too big but still had good texture. The matcha was really good and balance nicely with the taro. Service: 5/5 This looks like a small family owned shop or franchise. The baristas were friendly and helped us activate our Groupons. The drinks were made fresh to order. Ambiance: 5/5 When we walked in, we saw one of the baristas making the boba. It looked like it was made fresh in house. I think this place would be a wonderful study space or a chill place to just hang out with friends. I cannot wait to try their other teas.
Came here for a quick boba pick me up and the drink was heavy on the milk than the tea. Half sweetness was still quite sweet. The handmade boba is the real star here which was perfectly chewy. Boba bumps it up to 4 stars. There's a lot of handwritten signage around for what's available, steps to use the kiosk, etc, but I thin it would help to print/laminate some of those pieces and do a little updating since a lot of the scotch tape is wearing off too.

They have a Doordash promotion currently - Honey Tea - 2 for $5.99 - Mango Jasmine Tea - 2 for $8.20 Menu has a good variety of tea and milk teas. Pricing is reasonable and most drinks are $5-7+. Toppings range from $0.65-$1.00 Loved that there are sugar, ice adjustments, as well as milk substitutions! The Mango Jasmine Tea with Housemade Boba was delicious! Got it half sweet and it was not too sweet and very refreshing! The Jasmine Tea tasted freshly brewed and fragrant! The Mango puree was very yummy and was made with real fruit! The Housemade Boba was very chewy and good! It was so soft and fresh! Definitely recommend getting this drink and the boba is a must! Overall, I really enjoyed my drink and will definitely recommend and return!

What separates Tea Maru from other boba shops their in-house craft of boba daily, using real fruit, vegetable, or simple ingredients... there's a definite difference in texture & chewiness! According to their website, they use natural ingredients & simple sweetener instead of powder, creamer, & fruit syrup. Confident in their handcrafted drinks, they offer a guarantee to remake your drink if you're not happy with it. I ordered a Kiwi Citrus Breeze with Mixed Boba because my son was into fruit teas at the time. If you want to try a mix of their craft boba, it's an extra 25¢ surcharge... $1.00 for a sampling of strawberry, mango, & brown sugar, totally worth it! Our drink was served quickly even with a few customers ahead of us. We weren't greeted upon entry because the bobaristas were busy executing loads of drinks, but she was warm & friendly when we picked up our drink. The tea had a fragrant floral jasmine flavor with sweet kiwi that's countered with zesty, citrusy lemon with tons of fresh, QQ chew boba (almost 1/3 cupful)! Tea Maru in San Gabriel in SGV is so good! I came here with my boyfriend to satisfy our milk tea craving and I'm happy to report craving was satisfied. The place was small and had minimum tables but it's a relaxing vibe in there if you get one table lol I ordered the Okinawa latte, which was perfectly balanced, not too sweet. My boyfriend got the mango slush with ice cream We kept stealing sips from each other because both drinks were that good. Great boba, great atmosphere, staff was super nice and a perfect spot for a chill date. We'll be back

A stable with the SGV is Tea Maru. Tea Maru has been around for decades and I often find myself visiting again from time to time. Over the years, they've been consistent with their drinks and added plenty of menu options. Happy to say that they're still going strong as of today. My wife and I love their drinks. Our go to are their maru milk signature drinks and the Okinawa Latte. Their maru milk is very unique compared to other boba shops and it's definitely their most popular drink. It has a organic fresh milk feel combined with house made brown sugar and creamy cheese foam. Absolutely refreshing and not too heavy. Staff is great as well, sometimes now a bit understaffed but they do their best to get the drinks ready. There's plenty of to go/online orders as well which is good to see. There's some tables inside for people who want to sit and sip and it's pretty spacious and clean as well. read more

I came here because of the fresh boba and enjoyed that there were different flavors like strawberry boba. I like that it's handmade which can be difficult to find. The drink I got was adjusted in sweetness and I got the cheese foam which had a nice balance. The staff was pretty helpful and friendly. The shop had open seating which didn't feel crowded when I went. read more

Best teas I have ever had in a long time. This is one of my top places to come and get a tea. I love how it has the pieces of fruit one of my favorite things to have. The location is easy to find just the parking might be difficult to find due to the place is in a strip mall. Haven't been here in a while. Kinda rediscovering it. Planning to try different drinks. I remember liking their Signature/Housemade Boba. Service was pretty good this time. Better than previous visits. DRINKS: Cheese Foam Four Season Tea w/ Aiyu Jelly 4/5 Not bad. Got it at 75% Sugar. Still a tad bit too sweet, but doable. Probably try it with 50% next time. read more

I got the mango jasmine tea with strawberry boba! This store specializes in their hand crafted boba flavors like strawberry, sweet potato, and brown sugar boba. Mango boba is only available on weekends and it sells out! The boba isn't factory made so you will have various sized balls and the consistency isn't all the same but that's the best part! I like their teas as it is strong and flavorful read more
Received Got the Too Good To Go deal, which came with two random drinks, a green milk tea and a wintermelon milk tea. I lucked out because the wintermelon is actually my favorite. Both drinks were great, and the service was quick and friendly. Overall, solid tea at a really good price! read more

I ordered a drink on their website but when I went to pick it up, my drink wasn't ready because turns out, they didn't get my order! Luckily they made it on the spot but I was still pretty disappointed. They also were not apologetic at all.. The girls working actually did not even greet me when I walked in and I had to get their attention to tell them I was picking up an online order. I got the honey lemon because I wanted something caffeine free. It tasted very refreshing and I actually really liked it. Also, they make their boba in house! It was fun to watch the little boba balls come out of the machine as I was waiting for my drink. read more

Literalmente the worst strawberry matcha I've ever had. Only giving them two stars because I went back and asked for matcha and they kindly remade it but it still wasn't any better. I ordered for pickup through Uber Eats and was able to get my money back. I was so disappointed. read more

One of our favorite boba spots (anywhere) because of their matcha dalgona series. Our staples: strawberry matcha dalgona and mango matcha dalgona (with mango boba on the weekends). You can also customize your drink so you can have lactose-free or less ice, etc. if you prefer. Service is fast even during hot summer days. And the place has a few tables and chairs for you to stay a while. Will always come back!!! read more

And I'm back again! This time totally Fully open post pandemic and you can order all your drinks online via the Square site they have. All the drinks have customizable options like strawberry or sweet potato boba! Also, if you can't do Organic milk, they don't charge extra for Soy / Oat / or Lactose Free Milk :). On some the sugar level can be adjusted to 75% by default only. And others you can't adjust at all. Others are adjustable from 25/50/75. So it all depends on the drinks. You can't adjust also state the ice level. It was fairly easy to order online. FYI: if you order gift cards, you actually get the gift card via text after 5 minutes (card info is not included in the initial email) and you can use that right away on their website. It was nice and easy. Drinks are a bit pricey now at average prices $6.00-$6.50 a Large one, and any additional toppings will run you upwards of $7/8 a drink after taxes. What's nice though is that if you're signed up for their rewards they will often send you coupons for 10/15/20% off your entire order :) The place is still bright and clean. Lots of small tables and lots of middle open space so you don't feel suffocated like other small boba shops. Parking is a small lot shared with rest of establishments on the strip but not bad. Definitely coming back for the yummy drinks! read more

Drinks are great, but customer service definitely varies. My family comes here often and we love the Strawberry Fluffy Matcha and Mango Fluffy Matcha (or really any of their fluffy matcha drinks). The drink overall is quite sweet, but not too too sweet and the matcha is good quality. The boba is also good as well and I'd also recommend the Okinawa slush. The interior doesn't have much seating so I'd say it's more of a grab and go spot. I will say, there's been an occasion where the employees were cursing and insulting each other or have been a bit standoffish. Not every time, but with the kiosk system, there's not too much interaction. This spot is a regular spot and family favorite. Would definitely recommend! read more
When you roll into 626 looking for boba and find yourself in a trifecta of options in one street corner, it can be hard to decide where to check out. Fortunately, Tea Maru holds its own and was a great spot to grab boba. Ordering is done completely through the kiosk but I'm sure you can ask the staff any questions that may be unclear from ordering. While it's not clear at first they do offer lactose-free and non-dairy milk options including soy, oat, and almond, all free of charge. That is usually unheard of but absolutely appreciated as someone that loved their milk teas but no longer consumes dairy. You are able to select this as you scroll through selecting your sweetness and ice levels for your drink. I ordered a Roasted Oolong Tea Latte with oat milk and boba. I was able to enjoy the high quality oolong tea and the sweetness of the boba and sweetener was extremely satisfying. Oh, and did I mention they make their own homemade boba here apparently? They were incredibly soft and chewy. While there isn't much room inside to stay and hangout, there's plenty of space to stand while waiting for your order.
