4 smash burgers and fries
Thomas K.

Nice outdoor seating. Great place to enjoy a meal. The burger was tasty and done well. Everyone enjoyed it. Food came out reasonably fast. A bit pricey though. It would have to be a special occasion for us as opposed to a tuesday dinner. 2 adults and 2 kids came out to over $60 in the end

First time at south pas smash -- first impression is that it's very homey and unique with the dining area being outside on a sunny day with a window to order your food from. Got the smash burger, dressed fries, and a coke. Everything was great! The fries were a bit overfried for my liking but the dressing on the fries helped give it the sauce it needed to make up for that. Overall really great lunch after work to wind down with friends.

Wow a smash burger place that accommodates allergies! Got my son (who is allergic to dairy and eggs and nuts, a single burger on a vegan bun and vegan cheese and vegan sauce)! The owner is very friendly and awesome. My husband loved his double bacon burger as well. We will be making this place a regular stop when we go to the south pas farmers market!

I was in the mood for a burger and found this new place that recently opened up at the Fremont Centre Theater building. I ordered the regular cheeseburger with krinkle fries costing 14 bucks. You pay at the small window and they'll bring the food out to you. The burger was delicious and had the perfect flavoring and condiment balance. The fries were served in a small tray but I feel for the price they could've doubled the amount.

It's nice to see more smash burger spots in the area! We tried the Billionaire Smash Burger, dressed fries, and a single smash. The quality was really good, and everything tasted great. Service was friendly, and the outdoor seating is pet-friendly. The tables and chairs were clean, and there's parking available at the lot nearby. The ice cream cookie sandwich was cold and hard on the outside, ice cream was yummy.

Tucked away on the southeast corner of El Centro and Fremont in South Pasadena is a hidden gem that is worth talking about. Service, food and ambience is top notch. South Pas Smash serves one of the best smash burgers I've had. The homemade sauce is fantastic. The potato bun is soft, supple and just enough body to gently support the tasty and crispy burger patty. Home made pickles add the perfect crunch and tang to balance it all out. Bottle beverages only, so make sure you try their root beer. I hear they change the brand frequently. One of my guests had the chicken sandwich, which was devoured without any words. That's a good sign. As a connoisseur of onion rings, these are among the best. Crispity and crunchety! Patio is perfect and the owner brings out an outdoor screen to show 80s music videos while you eat. Great experience. I expect this place to be packed all the time, very soon.

Yesterday, on a hot summer evening, I decided to try South Pas Smash. I had been doing some online search in and around my neighborhood and came across this fairly new burger place. Supporting local business is very important to me. We were greeted at the order window by Kya. She noticed that I was holding a flyer that She and her dad, James, had passed out in our neighborhood the week prior. Both James and Kya were very helpful about how the burgers are prepared and the both had a great sense of humor. The patio out front is where the seating is and although it was covered by umbrellas and a roll down shade, it was hot out. Everything on the patio was spotless and there was some great music playing as we sat and ate. The burgers were fresh and very tasty. James told me about the mustard based sauce and homemade pickles. the sauce was the perfect flavor without overpowering the beef flavor I look for in a great burger. Fresh homemade pickles? Outstanding. This cheeseburger was juicy and cooked to perfection. James told me they never freeze their meat. With onion, lettuce and cheese, it was a fantastic burger packed into a fresh Potato Bun. The fries and Onion Rings were served hot and crisp with a side of very fresh ranch dressing. (I think that was homemade as well). I will go back for sure! I need to try the Billionaire Smash!

The Chicken Fry-Yay sandwich (typically available only on Fri-Sat-Sun) was juicy, tasty, with a slaw hinting of Asian flavor which enhanced the sandwich taste.

In the mood for a burger, this place delivers. Local flair and a chill vibe . In hindsight, I should have asked for double lettuce, raw onion, and toasted bun .., but the burger is good as it comes . I'll be back

Cute little pop-up in South Pasadena evenings (I think 4:30-9pm) on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays. It uses Piccadilly Grace's kitchen and patio that is not being used at night. Loved the super friendly service and the outdoor patio space is awesome and perfect to bring a dog too. They even have a bowl of water out for dogs. The menu is just burger and fries, but they have a lot of fun drink options. The smash burger and fries are good, but the serving size was a bit small. We will be coming back because it is a fun, super close spot to grab a quick weekend dinner from.

Food was delicious. burger very solid. It had all the makings of a good smash burger. nice char, fresh lettuce, sweet cooked onions, bun was soft, and the sauce was delicious. Defo a nice new local spot thats gonna be popping during the summer. Today during my treat day i also got a classic orange crush (the glass bottle ones , fancy!), the crinkle cut fries and the dr pepper cake. The fries were perfectly salted for my taste and crunchy while being soft inside. dr pepper cake was a sweet treat all on its own. Very nostalgic. It had the icey icing on top with little sprinkles dotting the surface. Nicely moist and such a throwback to cakes i had when i was younger. Great way to round out the dinner. Service was nice and easy. They brought the burgers out to you on those classic trays and they checked in on everyone sitting around. Water was self serve. Defo worth a try in the area! They are still in opening stages so make sure to check out there instagram for there hours. Parking is by the street and abundant. They have non alcoholic beer which is cool for those who want it. outdoor seating only as well.

Smash burger and dressed up fries.

It looks like your classic 70's-80's burger joint with the wooden booths with the red and yellows booth cushions. Not to mention the red and white tiled counter. I read some recent reviews complaining about the service, but I was greeted by a young man with a mullet and he was very helpful. He wasn't well versed in the menu, but knew some of the popular dishes and he said, the bacon cheeseburger was good. I decided to go with that. The Bacon Cheeseburger ($9.98) consists of bacon, cheese, thousand island dressing, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions. For me, it was the perfect and quintessential California-style burger! It came with sizzling hot crispy bacon. They cook the bacon just right and it provides a perfect texture for the burger along with strips of onion and thick cut slices of tomato oozing in Thousand Island dressing. If you could ask for the thousand island dressing on the side as the thousand island dressing makes the burger a bit soggy on the bottom after you take the yellow wax paper off. After reading my Yelp friend Justin A's post, I decided to pass on the fries and zucchini fries and keep it simple with a burger as I knew it would be worth a try. I'm glad I came here as it was one of better burgers I've had in awhile. Hi-Life Burgers is great no-frills kind of place and I'll definitely be back in the near future.

Overall, not bad.

The lady at the window was super nice! We decided to eat in the hallway adjacent to the kitchen, it was a nice warm night and the hall has a bunch of cool plants hanging Let's get into it!! I ordered the signature Goldburger and decided to add pastrami! Look at that! It's sliced thin and comes across kind of like a mound of bacon, melts in your mouth along with the rest of the burger. Very interesting combination it comes highly recommended! We went with curly fries cuz we are from the Midwest and there are no Arby's out here lol but I opted to grab a side of their classic sauce, which ROCKS! It was so good I was pouring it on the last few bites of my burger. Do yourself a favor and get some classic sauce and pour that stuff right on your burger, you won't be disappointed! Check it out!!

No overthinking it, just burgers done right. Both were solid, no complaints. Staff is cool too. Nice, patient, not rushing you even when it's busy, which I always appreciate. Only real downside is seating... but honestly that's kinda the deal with all their locations. You either find a spot or you're eating like you just made a life decision on the sidewalk. That said, it's still one of those spots you can just pull up to, get a good burger, and keep it moving. Next time I already know -- I gotta try the patty melt.

I've heard these breakfast burritos are the go to if you want a breakfast burrito and that…read morestatement couldn't be more right. This is a burger joint with a diverse menu, including one of the biggest breakfast burritos in town. I got my burrito with bacon. The burrito comes with hashbrown style potatoes, eggs and cheese - you get a choice of ham, bacon or sausage for your meat (or have it without meat). The bacon was crispy and remained crispy when I reheated my other half. Not only is the bacon crispy, the burrito has a generous amount of it! Oh and the other plus - the tortilla does not come wet and soggy and remains in perfect condition if you have leftovers. The burrito comes with only one salsa and to be honest, you really do need two for such a big burrito. I'm a green salsa girl but I asked what I should go with and I was recommended the red one (the green one is supposedly spicier). The red salsa did not disappoint other than I needed one more for my whole burrito (there's no kick to this salsa but it's tasty). The burrito itself isn't bursting with flavor on its own and it requires the salsa to compliment the other ingredients. But, who eats a breakfast burrito without salsa? There is ample parking in their parking lot and there's seating both inside and outside. I will definitely be returning to satisfy my breakfast burrito craving very soon and if this is what you're looking for - stop reading reviews and go get you one at Lucky Boy (it's served all day).

I always start off my ratings with cleanliness. I worked in a high volume restaurant back in the 70's. If you weren't doing something you were cleaning. Ordered the classic burger, fries and coke. Picked up my order after a short wait. Cleaned off my own table and sat down. Burger looked decent, fries looked amazing and can never say anything bad about a classic coke. First bite of the burger was a little disappointing. Burger was thin and seemed overcooked to me. I thought it was dry. Roll, lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo were ok. Not bad overall but for some reason I expected a better burger experience. Let's talk about the fries. Truly classic French fried potatoes. Perfectly cooked. Light golden color. Nice texture and flavor. What every French fry should look and taste like. Coke was great. Sorry to say I was not impressed by the burger. This was my experience on 05/09/2026. Could have been cleaner and maybe the burger not overcooked. Your experience may be totally different.

The food: BEYOND EXCEPTIONAL 10/10…read moreProbably the best tallow fried fries I've experienced so far, as well. And I mean that in comparison to non tallow fried fries, as well. What I mean to mean is... they're better than what we all remember and experienced McDonald's or Burger king fries to be in the 90s. And there's no seed oils or additional chemicals. So...Hopefully you can see why I'm writing about them now. The burger itself is succulent, savory and sensational. My taste buds, all at once, commend it and kneel as the flavors, made of meat and a lovely sear, cross them for an ALMOST NSFW walk towards my esophagus. The esophagus: IMPRESSED A smooth process takes place as the buttery components of bread and meat enter it. Usually the esophagus is left out of the review or has complaints only of acidity. Not with Burgerlords Not with Burgerlords... Im a woman possessed and I realize that I might sound or read as a manic person. And that is because... I AM. I write this completely high off the thought of the meal alone that was last experienced two weeks ago. Maybe? I'm not sure. Time is an illusion so I can't confirm a date. I will say I brought someone with me the last time I dined and they were happily satisfied. For reference: She purchased a cookies and cream milkshake and the veggie burger. There were no critiques other than weirdly loving the milkshake which is VEGAN but still tasted...RICH. Because as a former vegan I can personally acknowledge that I was not drinking vegan milkshakes due to them sucking on average. And I wasn't going to force that relationship for a diet. If you've made it this far I challenge you to ignore the stars you see above which sit at a 3.5? Currently on 3/2/25. They're an inaccurate reflection. And it is mostly due to fundamentalist vegans not coping well with a place becoming a home to meat lovers. Please go support and leave a review. I know the review will be good so I won't even need to ask that you leave a good one. You will.... You will... Also, the environment is great. It gives classy, slightly upscale diner vibes. The young man who is a blonde or light brunette?? I forget.. he's great at his job and very warm and welcoming. I've only seen him when I visited so I'm guessing he's the main worker of the front currently. They picked a great guy. Hopefully you tip and support his service when you engage!

It's a cool retro vibe, BUT - Ugh another smash burgers. Real beef. Real tallow fries. Real expensive. The burger? Pretty solid. Crispy edges, juicy middle. I respect it. The fries? Fried in tallow. That's cow fat, man. You ever eat something that's delicious and feel like it's judging you from beyond the grave? Here's the thing though--I kept lookin' at the menu for the vegan stuff. I thought maybe it was invisible. Maybe it was hiding. Maybe the Impossible patty was impossible to find. Also, $25 for a combo? My girl and I got two burgers, fries and a Mexicoke with no ICE [wink wink] $45! That's more than my first car payment... but the burger's faster. So yeah, tasty burger... fries so good they'll make you forgive the existential crisis... but if you're plant-based, you gotta ask yourself: "Where did the veggie burger go?" It's probably on tour with the ghost of faux meat (Feat). Three stars... one for the burger, one for the fries, and one for the memory of the vegan that once was.
