I have been to Pharo's twice. The first time, I ordered the bacon cheeseburger special. I added bacon to the burger and upgraded the side to fried mushrooms. The bacon cheeseburger was really good. The patty had great flavor, the bun was soft, the bacon was crispy, and the veggies were fresh and crisp. The fried mushrooms were delicious too. The batter was so crispy. On my second, and most recent, visit, I ordered their teriyaki plate. Although it's not on the menu, I asked for half chicken and half beef. The plate comes with white rice and a simple green salad with Thousand Island dressing. While the teriyaki had good flavor, I didn't really enjoy it. I was expecting the meat to be thinly sliced, but instead it was cut into large cubes. If you like bigger chunks of meat in your teriyaki, you'll probably enjoy theirs. The prices were pretty steep for a short-order restaurant. The teriyaki plate was $15.99 plus tax. I also ordered my boyfriend a bacon cheeseburger combo, which was $16.99 plus tax. The combo comes with a small drink. For the price, I think they should at least offer a medium-sized drink. They do offer refills, though. Customer service was good. I used to come here all the time for something simple cheeseburger and fries, I stopped by to order my usual because I was craving it- I asked to used the restroom real quick before I ordered but when I asked " do you guys have a restroom here?" the response was " only if your customer so you need to order" apparently you have to place an order before you use the restroom. I don't know it was just a weird feeling being interrogated as to why you need to use the restroom or if I plan on ordering first etc. He handed me the key, after he pressed more if I was going to order first but it was all a uncomfortable interaction. Nice quiet, with the news playing on the TV. This particular morning I woke up craving a breakfast burrito, it was going to be cold so the situation also calls for a large coffee. I got myself a large coffee (it's about 8 ounces not that big) the combination burrito isn't listed but it contains all 3 meats. I read in an article in SFGate about how Pharo's has stayed in business for several years despite be open directly across the street from a very busy In-N-Out. I always love supporting local mom-and-pop joint. I knew I had to give it a shot. I love their unique lighthouse sign as well! I didn't know what to order per usual. I was told that the Breakfast Burritos, Burgers and Gyros are popular. I was bit hungry. I opted to order the Breakfast Burrito with Bacon and the Gyro. The Breakfast Burrito with Bacon was very good and good sized portion for price. The cheese had a nice sharp cheddar taste to it, which was nice. They didn't skimp on the Bacon. My order was too much food even for a big guy like me. I ended up eating the whole Gyro and 1/2 of the Breakfast Burrito. I heated up the Breakfast Burrito the next morning and it still tasted great. This might be my new go-to breakfast burrito spot close to home. The Gyro was good. The tzatziki was good as well. It was stuffed with onions and some tomatoes as well. The pita tasted very soft and fresh. This Gyro is real deal. I don't think you can find a better Gyro anywhere else in the area. I really wanted to try the Fried Mushrooms as that's apparently a bestseller as well. I will have to try a burger as well as they are Pharo's Burgers after all. Breakfast burrito + green sauce = happiness I haven't been to Pharo's in years so I can't speak to the customer service, location, or the other food items, but my mom has recently been bringing me their breakfast burritos and they're so good that I've started to crave them. The burrito itself is solid and filling with the perfect ratio of potato, egg, bacon (which I don't feel like they skimp on), and cheese but it's the salsa (specifically the green one) that brings it to the next level. For me, it's the perfect amount of spice--the kind that adds lots of flavor with minimal heat. As someone with a moderate spice tolerance, I would say that it's not even spicy. The bacon had a nice crisp and the tomato and pickles were soaking all the burger juices up! The burger had a good ratio of everything, which balanced the taste. I'll be honest, I didn't actually know it was called Pharo's BURGERS until recently because we only ever get the gyros, the mushrooms, and a salad haha - all of which are so excellent. Two blocks away, we were at a stoplight and saw Pharos Burgers...we've been living in the area already for 16 years and have talked about stopping in but never did until today. What a great decision! Their menu is pretty extensive from breakfast to burgers to fried chicken dinner to burritos. Stepping inside, it has an 80s retro feel (in a good way) like those no-nonsense places that offer great food with no pretense. As soon as stepping up to the counter, I was happily greeted by the young gentleman and then he took my order. I got a cheeseburger combo (which included fries and a drink - no substitutions). My burger was tasty, juicy had bits of charred edges and was exactly what I was looking for to satisfy my hunger. There is parking in the shared strip mall or the dedicated lot on the other side of the restaurant. There is ample parking for the business. We got 2 Turkey burgers, 1 mushroom burger, fried mushrooms, fries, and taquitos. Overall the food was comparable to Jim's burgers, which we think is quite good, but not as good as Paul's Place, which we think is the best local burger shop in SoCal. Pharo's has better buns that are tossed better than Jim's, but the rest is comparable. Jim's gives you more fries than Pharo, but Pharo has better tasting fries. Paul's had better fried mushrooms than Pharo, and Jim's does not offer these. Pharos taquitos seemed like frozen store bought that they just fried up--Paul's are better. Pharos Taquitos came with a lot of guacamole, which was good quantity, but it seemed like just out of a store jar, so quality just ok. The man who served us seemed like the owner and he was very nice. Overall, we would definitely come back here and recommend you give them a try. They are closer than Paul's Place and just a different style than Jim's. A lot of people were getting Pharos fried chicken on our visit but we didn't try it. I wanted some American food for my birthday, and my friends suggested we try this place. My friend ordered carry out from here. I requested a junior cheeseburger and a small chili cheese fries. The food was freshly prepared and everything was quite good. The cheeseburger was quite tasty, with a nice juicy patty. I'm not huge fan of smashburgers, so I am glad this was not a smashed patty. Lucky boys down the street is much more well known, but this place also has a solid offering if you're looking for a hefty burrito after a hike or just a treat on the weekend. I had the same thing with my Uncle's order, and he was so nice to change it to zucchini Fries for free. Because he didn't know our names, he referred to my Uncle as the Hamburger Guy, and me as Nephew. A really nice, fun, and easy-going person. New favorite burger spot!! I can totally see how this place holds up just a block away from innout. It is slightly more expensive but not a lot wait and yummy. I got the 1/4 cheeseburger and felt like the bun was too big for the patty but really tasty. My bf got the pastrami burger and while he liked it, he wouldn't get it again because he felt like the pastrami was too chewy so the burger fell apart. Fries were on point.
