Alright guys I had been day drinking all day at The Rainbow paying respects to Lemmy and when we got back to Highland Park the crew was HOUNGRY We decided we needed big burgers and chose none other than Goldburger. The lady at the window was super nice! We decided to eat in the hallway adjacent to the kitchen, it was a nice warm night and the hall has a bunch of cool plants hanging Let's get into it!! I ordered the signature Goldburger and decided to add pastrami! Look at that! It's sliced thin and comes across kind of like a mound of bacon, melts in your mouth along with the rest of the burger. Very interesting combination it comes highly recommended! We went with curly fries cuz we are from the Midwest and there are no Arby's out here lol but I opted to grab a side of their classic sauce, which ROCKS! It was so good I was pouring it on the last few bites of my burger. Do yourself a favor and get some classic sauce and pour that stuff right on your burger, you won't be disappointed! Check it out!!
Got the Goldburger and the Bar Burger. Pretty easy review for a pretty easy spot. Menu is small which is always a good sign -- means they're focused and everything is fresh. No overthinking it, just burgers done right. Both were solid, no complaints. Staff is cool too. Nice, patient, not rushing you even when it's busy, which I always appreciate. Only real downside is seating... but honestly that's kinda the deal with all their locations. You either find a spot or you're eating like you just made a life decision on the sidewalk. That said, it's still one of those spots you can just pull up to, get a good burger, and keep it moving. Next time I already know -- I gotta try the patty melt.
They offer $14 vegan option but no vegan cheese. The mayo has no dairy but does have eggs. Everyone enjoyed their $12 grassfed beef and $14-$15 Ruben or patty melt sandwich options. $5 Curry fries was nice. Patio bar top seating are good for individual to couples eating there. A party of 4 like us could be a bit disruptive when sitting on both sides. They do have 1 restroom, no mirror. They offer a water station on the side with disposable paper cups.
What I Ordered: -California Classic $12.00 I've had Goldburger bookmarked on Yelp for a while now, but hadn't made it over until recently. I was actually planning to visit their Chinatown location, which was closest to me, but unfortunately, it closed down. Goldburger has consistently been mentioned as one of the best smash burgers in LA, and I think the name is well-deserved; they truly set the gold standard for smash burgers. I spoke with Anthony, and he recommended the California Smash, suggesting I swap the classic sauce for the garlic-mustard aioli. Knowing that all their burgers are 100% grass-fed, which means they use the highest quality of beef, I went with his recommendation. Without a doubt, this was the best smash burger I've ever had! I will definitely be back.
We spent about $55 for two burgers, and we made them a combo by adding a drink and fries each, plus a pastrami hot dog. Maybe it's just me, but that's pretty pricey for a takeout burger spot. Idc how historic or whatever it is. The staff were kind and helpful. We opted to eat in the small patio on the side of the building, so we could taste our food fresh. It was decent size and there were other patrons eating as well. The pastrami hot dog was delicious! Never thought about adding pastrami to a hotdog, but I loved it! I had regular fries and my brother had curly fries, and we both got the spicy ranch. The fries were fries, lol, nothing special but they were cool and I enjoyed the dip. On to the LA Special burger I ordered, while the taste was cool, there was too much gristle in the meat. I couldn't properly enjoy my burger, because I was constantly spitting out pieces of gristle. I hate that! Idk if it was a poor quality of beef, but for that price tag, I feel that there shouldn't be gristle in almost every bite. Glad I was able to experience it, but I don't see myself craving their burgers.
Quick and friendly service. We ordered the patty melt and the limited philly burger. To start the patty melt was pretty good - it's what you'd expect meat was well flavored & cooked! Now the philly burger.. WOW... flavor explosion loved it. We also got curly fries and onions rings. We will be back! special not to the cane sugar dr. pepper chefs kiss
I've heard about Goldburger's smashburger here in Highland Park by a very dear friend (he's 11 years old BTW) for over two years. My young friend knows more about "the inner going ons" here in the Pasadena food scene than the food critic of The Los Angeles Times. Well, with my wife in tow, and us picking up our dear friend from Little League baseball practice this night, he once again (remember he's 11), recommended Goldburger for dinner this night; so we went! This particular Goldburger restaurant (their are several) was basically an: Order Window on the street and an open garage type area with stools to enjoy your meal. And, this open garage is as bare bones as a locker. We all ordered our smashburgers: Me and my wife ordered Goldburger's, Goldburger with a Grass-Fed 6oz. double cheeseburger with grilled onions, fresh pickles, and a house-made award winning garlic-mustard aioli. I loved it, Our friend ordered the California Classic with Grass-Fed 6oz. double cheeseburger with diced onions, fresh pickles, shredded lettuce, and a house-made classic sauce. He woofed his burger down like it was his last meal. We got two orders of fries: one Curly and one Straight and the we were off to the races. I will say, in the smashburger world, Goldburger's smashburger was definitely the smashiest [sic] I loved it!!!!!
I've been wanting to come here for some time. Finally made it. I ordered the California Classic Burger (double patty) and my wife got the Goldburger (single patty), but with their slices of bread, not a bun.. We also got curly fries. My first bit affirmed why I made the drive here. It was a classic burger with fresh (and highly drippy) patties. The pickles, onions and lettuce were just right. The curly fries were curly fries.. but good. They have an outdoor patio and there was a fan, but it was still hot on the patio. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, it well satisfied my burger craving!
A delicious burger joint in Highland Park! Small window to order from and limited seating, it's a better grab and go spot. Fast and friendly service. We got the Goldburger with curly fries and it was so good. Most places skimp on the grilled onions but this was loaded and I was so happy. The meat was so fresh and flavorful. It was still hot by the time I finished it which was great. Curly fries were huge, I would definitely recommend splitting them but they were delicious with their sauce options!
We came at around 7:30 PM and there were not a lot of people there. No line and plenty of outdoor seating. The service was quick and nice and the prices are reasonable. You can also make it a combo, which makes the value better. The ambience of the seating is decorated well with lights and a nice color scheme. They have a bathroom in the back as well. I ordered the Goldburger and a sparkling lemonade and the other people in my party ordered curly fries and Goldburgers as well. The burgers had thin smashed patties, pickles, and cheese. The patties were crispy and I liked the texture, but they were also a bit salty. A standard cheeseburger, I'm personally a fan of a burger with more toppings so I will be back to try some of their other options. The sparkling lemonade and cola that they have both come in glass bottles, which gives it a more luxurious experience. It is a nice touch and the drinks were chilled. Smaller portions than a fountain drink though, but they also have a free water station. The curly fries were also tasty, not standout though, and the combo comes with a sauce. Overall, would recommend trying this burger place. I like their smashed patties and the ambience of the seating area.
Probably one of my favorite smash burger places in LA. I've had their LA special with pastrami version which is amazing. The pastrami was very tender and not fatty at all. It went well with the burger. I recently had the gold burger with curly fries and it was excellent. The burger had a nice char and the carmelization of the patty was perfect. The curly fries was very fresh and good. Good texture and good amount of seasoning. The staff was quick and nice and quick to guide you to the restroom and other amenities. The decor was super nice with plants hung over their establishment as a way to show that they care about their space. This is a gem in eagle rock but I'm also excited they posted up in Chinatown too and expect the same quality.
Fantastic! Without question, Goldburger is in the conversation for the top 5 best smash burgers in Los Angeles. Limited menu (kinda like inn-n-out), they have no-frills smashers and fries. I ordered via Uber-eats, so theoretically, it's a little bit less than hot-n-ready, but I had a speedy driver this time around so everything was fresh -- including the curled fries. Nevermind the aesthetics of all those 'razor-edged' patties, of all the places I patronized, Goldburger has the MOST well-seasoned patty out of any of them. Their style is more traditional, diner style. Unlike the FTW, Goldburger does NOT have the acidic sauce/jalapeno one-two punch. All the flavors going serve the seasoned patty. The onions are not-finely chopped, but rather sliced super-thin in almost a string-like circle. The curly fries were indeed curly, seasoned and worked best with ketchup. My only minor complaint would be the garlic-mustard aioli. It's sublime in how mild it is. I'd prefer a more stronger taste. There is some good news though: it's mild enough where it's not gonna give you that garlic-breath and ruin your casual date.

What can I say? I'm a sucker for a classic burger and Goldburger checks off all the boxes. I've heard of this spot from a few friends and had this on my radar for a minute now in search for a great burger. Tried the LA burger and Goldburger with curly fries and drink. The meat was charred and crisp to perfection, reminiscent of your local drive-thru burger spot. The curly fries were crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, always giving you a good bite. I swear if Goldburger was closer to home, I would eat here 3-4x a week at minimum! read more
I'm sorry but this burger was almost inedible it was so salty. I got the double smash and it came super highly recommended from friends and other burger enthusiasts. No where near the flavor and umami as heavy handed and easy street and more modern places. Very fatty. Fries had a good crisp but the chili was super super smoky. Not sweet at all. Which is fine, but not my style. Chili is very user specific. People that worked there were incredibly nice. The diet soda option wasn't bad. Outdoor seating only so go at night or on a cool day. read more
Located in Highland Park proper I was turned on to Goldburger because I drive by it on the way to the gym. As a burger fan, I wanted to give it shot and I finally found the time to. Parking: Street parking was super easy on a Sunday afternoon, I was able to pull up right in front and park on the street. There is a Super A across the street and ample parking around for free. Ambiance & Food: This reminds me of an old school burger stand. Those were the best burgers and this one did not stop that trend. As I walked up, we were warmly greeted and given a quick rundown of what which burger. They did have specials (I will get to that in a second) which we were intrigued, but for the sake of perspective, I ordered the Goldburger and both regular fries and curly fries with a bottle coke. The Goldburger is naturally a double, but my gymrat protein brain added that extra patty. They use a 70% to 30% mixture for their burger which makes the burger oh so decadent. The picture I took doesn't do it justice. The moment you bite into the burger the combination of burger juice, aioli, burnt skirt, all come together in such a harmonious fashion. It was remarkable. Though fries are not one of my strong points, both fries were crispy and I haven't had any other experience with Curly fries other than Jack in the Box, but these were so much better. I went ahead and dipped the fries in some homemade Aioli and dang, what a combo! Back to those specials, the current special is CHILI, I was intrigued so they gave me a small container of it to try. Man, if I wasn't watching my caloric intake, that would have been the move. It was rich and chunky and not to soggy which some always comes. Give it a try as they said it will be around for sometime. Other than burgers, they do have hot dogs as well. So worth trying both next time. To be perfectly honest, this brought back so much nostalgia for me, I used to go to school in the area and this brought a lot of those memories back. HANDS DOWN ONE OF THEEEE BEST SMASHBURGER JOINTS AROUND!!! The food here is all around so delicious and tasty and for once a single smashburger here will leave you full!!!! Every other smashburger place I've been to never fills me up! This is the place though thicker burger but still providing those cruncy edges that everyone looks for in a Smash. The customer service is also great with such welcoming smiles from everyone and also very helpful and attentive if you need help making a decision. The ambiance is outdoor seating with very ample covering and at night is very well lit. Parking may be a bit harder as it is street parking but its so worth it and worth the wait for these tasty Smashburgers they are putting out! Keep up the great work Goldburger you guys always have me coming back!! read more

Came for the food! Goldburger was terrific tasting loved the smashed meat and grilled onions! The California was ok. Want to try the LA Special next time. Regular & curly fries i recommend the curly. Came with four different sauces. One had mustard seed, another some dill and another horseradish! Swell bottled rootbeer to wash it all down. read more

I am very surprised to find a smash burger in LA that has both good flavor and doesn't feel super greasy. I did pick-up through online order, but there's a small amount of counter space around the corner if you want to eat in their open air seating area. Picked up the California classic (no pickles) with curly fries and a side of spicy ranch and classic sauce. The California classic comes with 6 oz of a double patty smash burgers and the patties were cooked well with still a bit of pink in the middle. I like my burgers with some semblance of veggies, so I liked that there was some shredded lettuce in the burgers, adds to the freshness. Also got the curly fries: tasty, crispy and very similar to jack in the box curly fries. The kick of the spicy ranch ($0.75) comes at the end and the burger sauce is normal burger sauce (ketchup mayo and a little mustard). Overall, awesome smashburger in the highland park/pasadena area. read more

Smashburgers topped with pastrami?? Oh yeah!!! The burgers at GOLDBURGER in Highland Park were just as cheesey and juicy as we had imagined. Yes, looks are everything, and these photographed well and were actually pretty tasty!! They knocked it out of the park for us!! We had the LA Special and Kids Cheeseburger Goldburger-style with chopped chiles and Curly Fries. Bomb!!! Wish we had ordered another bag of fries. The pairing was just perfect! The ambiance was kinda like having a bbq in your backyard with LA Dodgers friends. We enjoyed our burgers in their patio while seated along the counterspace. Service was very friendly and our orders came out at a reasonable time!! Would definitely return when in the mood for another round of smashburgers! read more
If a burger place menu has a few options, that's always a good sign to me bc it shows how they rlly mastered those few and as my fave burger spot in LA, Goldburger proves me right. I got the Goldburger which is a grass-fed 6 oz double smashburger with cheese, grilled onions, fresh pickles, and their garlic mustard aioli. I also tried the LA Special which is a grass-fed 6 oz double smashburger with cheese, pastrami, fresh pickles, and dijonnaise slaw. And this place has PERFECTED the smashburger! The meat is crispy at the edges yet still juicy when you bite into it. The bun is the perfect bread to hold the meat bc it holds all the toppings without becoming a mess and the aioli is so delicious. I also love how they have curly fries bc that's not rlly common. read more

Good size burgers with flavorful and saucy toppings. The raw onions were quite strong on the California Classic but the lettuce and sauce balanced it well. The Goldburger was yummy, the grilled onions definitely elevated the burger, it had good heft. The curly fries were perfectly crispy and one serving was enough for us to share along with our burger. We would definitely come back to try other burgers. read more

Pretty good smash burger and everything you expect! I've eaten a LOT of burgers all over California, NY, Boise, St. Louis. I liked the hard sear and the seasoning was on point for me. I wish the sauce had more presence and flavor, but I'm sure there are folks who disagree and rather a more pure burger. What stood out was the patty melt. The toast was cooked perfectly. It had a thin crisp on the outside and was fluffy inside. The onions were a little overdone and could've used a little more seasoning. I think it really could've benefited with more acidity. However when we asked if they could fix it up like the gold burger, they said they can't make modifications to the order. I know it wouldn't be a true patty melt, but we know the flavor profiles we enjoy. Pickles really would've made this patty melt a 10/10, but ketchup definitely helped. read more
It's a must try. Burgers were perfectly cooked and so tasty and fries with the ranch dip was so delicious!Service was fast and easy, dining area was convenient and in the shade on a warm and sunny day. This was a recommendation from a small business near by and we are so glad they mentioned it. A great lunch. read more

Oh wow. Easily one of the best burgers I have had in southern California. Unassuming location because it's basically just a walk up window with some seating on the side. The burger is so good and filling without it being too much. And the pastrami just takes it up to another level. Will definitely be back!!! read more
I knew I was about to be blown away when the burger looked like it came straight out of a commercial. I haven't tried too many LA burgers (for the win, burgers never say die, lowboy, etc.) but I know this one is my favorite so far! The meat is juicy with a bit of the crispiness on the edges. The sauce, ratio of ingredients, chopped chilis, and everything is perfect. read more

**5 stars** Gold Burgers is a must-visit for any burger lover! I had the classic Gold Burger, and it was spot-on--juicy, flavorful, with fresh toppings and a soft brioche bun. The truffle fries were crispy and perfectly seasoned. Highly recommend! read more
So this wasn't our favorite burger. The flavor of the meat / texture was not great. I will say the service was good and fast. Fries were ok. Parking is hard but there is a lot around the corner that was about $8. read more

Smash burger stand with limited menu options. Parked on the street on York and hopped out to place an order by the window. Guys in front of us ordered two burgers each with fries, so I wondered if a burger was on the smaller side. We ordered a burger each, the Goldburger and the Americana and a side of curly fries to share. Waited less than 10 minutes and our order was ready. I ordered the Goldburger which was smothered with sauces, cheese, and pickles. It was a bit greasy for my liking but I made a burger wrapper using napkins to try and sop up the grease. Even then, I realized this kind of burger is to be enjoyed occasionally. Burger was flavorful because of the sauces and bites of pickles in between. I'd definitely rank it in the top 15 for best burgers in LA. They had Latin trap music blaring in the overhead speakers. Not my thing but to each their own. read more

They are only open on the weekends from 12 to 6pm.
