    Patty melt and Philly burger

Quick and friendly service. We ordered the patty melt and the limited philly burger. To start the patty melt was pretty good - it's what you'd expect meat was well flavored & cooked! Now the philly burger.. WOW... flavor explosion loved it. We also got curly fries and onions rings. We will be back! special not to the cane sugar dr. pepper chefs kiss

Got the Goldburger and the Bar Burger. Pretty easy review for a pretty easy spot. Menu is small which is always a good sign -- means they're focused and everything is fresh. No overthinking it, just burgers done right. Both were solid, no complaints. Staff is cool too. Nice, patient, not rushing you even when it's busy, which I always appreciate. Only real downside is seating... but honestly that's kinda the deal with all their locations. You either find a spot or you're eating like you just made a life decision on the sidewalk. That said, it's still one of those spots you can just pull up to, get a good burger, and keep it moving. Next time I already know -- I gotta try the patty melt.

    California Classic $12.00

What I Ordered: -California Classic $12.00 I've had Goldburger bookmarked on Yelp for a while now, but hadn't made it over until recently. I was actually planning to visit their Chinatown location, which was closest to me, but unfortunately, it closed down. Goldburger has consistently been mentioned as one of the best smash burgers in LA, and I think the name is well-deserved; they truly set the gold standard for smash burgers. I spoke with Anthony, and he recommended the California Smash, suggesting I swap the classic sauce for the garlic-mustard aioli. Knowing that all their burgers are 100% grass-fed, which means they use the highest quality of beef, I went with his recommendation. Without a doubt, this was the best smash burger I've ever had! I will definitely be back.

    Pastrami Hot Dog
    Laina P.

We spent about $55 for two burgers, and we made them a combo by adding a drink and fries each, plus a pastrami hot dog. Maybe it's just me, but that's pretty pricey for a takeout burger spot. Idc how historic or whatever it is. The staff were kind and helpful. We opted to eat in the small patio on the side of the building, so we could taste our food fresh. It was decent size and there were other patrons eating as well. The pastrami hot dog was delicious! Never thought about adding pastrami to a hotdog, but I loved it! I had regular fries and my brother had curly fries, and we both got the spicy ranch. The fries were fries, lol, nothing special but they were cool and I enjoyed the dip. On to the LA Special burger I ordered, while the taste was cool, there was too much gristle in the meat. I couldn't properly enjoy my burger, because I was constantly spitting out pieces of gristle. I hate that! Idk if it was a poor quality of beef, but for that price tag, I feel that there shouldn't be gristle in almost every bite. Glad I was able to experience it, but I don't see myself craving their burgers.

    The start of our meal

I've heard about Goldburger's smashburger here in Highland Park by a very dear friend (he's 11 years old BTW) for over two years. My young friend knows more about "the inner going ons" here in the Pasadena food scene than the food critic of The Los Angeles Times. Well, with my wife in tow, and us picking up our dear friend from Little League baseball practice this night, he once again (remember he's 11), recommended Goldburger for dinner this night; so we went! This particular Goldburger restaurant (their are several) was basically an: Order Window on the street and an open garage type area with stools to enjoy your meal. And, this open garage is as bare bones as a locker. We all ordered our smashburgers: Me and my wife ordered Goldburger's, Goldburger with a Grass-Fed 6oz. double cheeseburger with grilled onions, fresh pickles, and a house-made award winning garlic-mustard aioli. I loved it, Our friend ordered the California Classic with Grass-Fed 6oz. double cheeseburger with diced onions, fresh pickles, shredded lettuce, and a house-made classic sauce. He woofed his burger down like it was his last meal. We got two orders of fries: one Curly and one Straight and the we were off to the races. I will say, in the smashburger world, Goldburger's smashburger was definitely the smashiest [sic] I loved it!!!!!

    Gold burger with bread slices

I've been wanting to come here for some time. Finally made it. I ordered the California Classic Burger (double patty) and my wife got the Goldburger (single patty), but with their slices of bread, not a bun.. We also got curly fries. My first bit affirmed why I made the drive here. It was a classic burger with fresh (and highly drippy) patties. The pickles, onions and lettuce were just right. The curly fries were curly fries.. but good. They have an outdoor patio and there was a fan, but it was still hot on the patio. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, it well satisfied my burger craving!

A delicious burger joint in Highland Park! Small window to order from and limited seating, it's a better grab and go spot. Fast and friendly service. We got the Goldburger with curly fries and it was so good. Most places skimp on the grilled onions but this was loaded and I was so happy. The meat was so fresh and flavorful. It was still hot by the time I finished it which was great. Curly fries were huge, I would definitely recommend splitting them but they were delicious with their sauce options!

    Goldburger and Sparkling Lemonade
    Annie W.

We came at around 7:30 PM and there were not a lot of people there. No line and plenty of outdoor seating. The service was quick and nice and the prices are reasonable. You can also make it a combo, which makes the value better. The ambience of the seating is decorated well with lights and a nice color scheme. They have a bathroom in the back as well. I ordered the Goldburger and a sparkling lemonade and the other people in my party ordered curly fries and Goldburgers as well. The burgers had thin smashed patties, pickles, and cheese. The patties were crispy and I liked the texture, but they were also a bit salty. A standard cheeseburger, I'm personally a fan of a burger with more toppings so I will be back to try some of their other options. The sparkling lemonade and cola that they have both come in glass bottles, which gives it a more luxurious experience. It is a nice touch and the drinks were chilled. Smaller portions than a fountain drink though, but they also have a free water station. The curly fries were also tasty, not standout though, and the combo comes with a sauce. Overall, would recommend trying this burger place. I like their smashed patties and the ambience of the seating area.

Probably one of my favorite smash burger places in LA. I've had their LA special with pastrami version which is amazing. The pastrami was very tender and not fatty at all. It went well with the burger. I recently had the gold burger with curly fries and it was excellent. The burger had a nice char and the carmelization of the patty was perfect. The curly fries was very fresh and good. Good texture and good amount of seasoning. The staff was quick and nice and quick to guide you to the restroom and other amenities. The decor was super nice with plants hung over their establishment as a way to show that they care about their space. This is a gem in eagle rock but I'm also excited they posted up in Chinatown too and expect the same quality.

    Some great curly fries

Fantastic! Without question, Goldburger is in the conversation for the top 5 best smash burgers in Los Angeles. Limited menu (kinda like inn-n-out), they have no-frills smashers and fries. I ordered via Uber-eats, so theoretically, it's a little bit less than hot-n-ready, but I had a speedy driver this time around so everything was fresh -- including the curled fries. Nevermind the aesthetics of all those 'razor-edged' patties, of all the places I patronized, Goldburger has the MOST well-seasoned patty out of any of them. Their style is more traditional, diner style. Unlike the FTW, Goldburger does NOT have the acidic sauce/jalapeno one-two punch. All the flavors going serve the seasoned patty. The onions are not-finely chopped, but rather sliced super-thin in almost a string-like circle. The curly fries were indeed curly, seasoned and worked best with ketchup. My only minor complaint would be the garlic-mustard aioli. It's sublime in how mild it is. I'd prefer a more stronger taste. There is some good news though: it's mild enough where it's not gonna give you that garlic-breath and ruin your casual date.

HANDS DOWN ONE OF THEEEE BEST SMASHBURGER JOINTS AROUND!!! The food here is all around so delicious and tasty and for once a single smashburger here will leave you full!!!! Every other smashburger place I've been to never fills me up! This is the place though thicker burger but still providing those cruncy edges that everyone looks for in a Smash. The customer service is also great with such welcoming smiles from everyone and also very helpful and attentive if you need help making a decision. The ambiance is outdoor seating with very ample covering and at night is very well lit. Parking may be a bit harder as it is street parking but its so worth it and worth the wait for these tasty Smashburgers they are putting out! Keep up the great work Goldburger you guys always have me coming back!!

    Alice Q.

Came for the food! Goldburger was terrific tasting loved the smashed meat and grilled onions! The California was ok. Want to try the LA Special next time. Regular & curly fries i recommend the curly. Came with four different sauces. One had mustard seed, another some dill and another horseradish! Swell bottled rootbeer to wash it all down.

Curly fries with spicy ranch and burger sauce hiding behind.

We stopped in on a Sunday around 11:30, no line and very quick service! Finished eating and left around 12:05 so we must've lucked out with no line. The buns were quite small and a bit smooshed, but they were soft. It came with some fry sauce and pickles as well, overall a good burger. The fries had a good amount of toppings (cheese onions, fry sauce) and were nice and crispy. Kinda wish the onions were slightly more grilled for some extra flavor! Would probably go for plain next time as the loaded fries and burger together had similar flavors The interior has a few benches for seating and single bar type seating around the perimeter - I could see it filling up if there's a big line of people. The Big Mac stays the same. I went to LA to taste, apparently, the best burger in LA at For the Win. I paid $25 for two smash burgers and had high expectations. After all, when you click this joint on Google Maps, a fancy review pops up. Nice! However, when the smash burger entered my cave and caressed my buds, my mind instantly recognized it as a Big Mac. Therefore, my brain could hardly differentiate between a McDonalds burger, and the "best" burger in LA. I haven't eaten at McDonalds in 14 years, but my mind still knew what a gentle and warm face looks like. So overall, it was alright! As the reverend Shane Gillis says "Not Bad". The service was good tho. And the ambiance was a bit weird because the music was off. Haha bye!!!

That's a lot of food for two people and well worth the price. The DH is as big as you could imagine. They cook it medium rare, which I love...that beast of a burger was so juicy, they should hand out gloves when eating it or at least a 3" high stack of napkins! You have a slight dry aged taste to it, but I am partial to the really funky dry aged. I am talking 45-60-100 day dry aged steaks, but this was just as good for a hamburger. The truffle fries were massive and could easily feed 3 people, maybe 4. We got there just in time to get the corner booth table and watch the line get longer and longer. The Amboy itself was good, nothing special and it reminded me of Bob's Big Boy hamburger sauce, which was a good memory to get back to. I happened to be in the area, and even though I'd already eaten, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to finally drop in. Irv's originally opened in 1946 as Queen's Burgers, located right on Route 66 on Santa Monica Boulevard in WeHo, and was deeply ingrained in LA's historic car culture. In 1970, Irv Genis bought the stand and renamed it Irv's Burgers, and it quickly became a legendary late-night spot for rock icons like Bob Dylan and Jim Morrison. By 2000, Sonia Hong took over, famously hand-drawing doodles on the paper plates alongside her signature slogan, "Just for you." After closing in 2013 and again in 2018, Lawrence Longo partnered with Sonia in 2021 to bring the brand back to life. They've since expanded quite a bit, even opening locations in Malibu and Las Vegas. On a staff recommendation, I ordered Irv's Original Roadside Burger Double ($11.25). Honestly, it was just okay. While a certain amount of grease and salt is expected with a burger, this one crossed the line into being a bit too salty and oily. On the bright side, the sesame bun was excellent, and I loved that they kept Sonia's legacy alive by printing her classic doodles on the tray placemats. While I'm glad Irv's was saved from history and is expanding, the food itself felt pretty so-so. The outdoor tables were also a bit dirty during my visit. I still love that classic roadside burger stand aesthetic with the outdoor stools, but unfortunately, I won't be in a rush to head back.

To say I'm super bummed is an understatement. I am so thankful that I happen to stop by for lunch and visit this location one last time. The same manager was there on the last day as when I went the first time two years ago. The staff there was always amazing, friendly, and the food was incredible. I think it was the Chinatown location that didn't work for them. However, the good news is that they do have three other locations and if you have never been, I suggest you check Kroft out if you love burgers, especially smashed. The other locations are in Long Beach, Anaheim, and Rancho Cucamonga. I wish them luck and I will definitely be stopping in their other locations if I am ever in the area.

Another 10min passed by, now I'm seeeing people who came after me get their orders before me. Asked the staff again for my order status. The order pick up window person shouted my name to the kitchen each time I checked in. Finally the 3rd time they responded, they start arguing, apparently my order was done a long time ago, and it was given to someone else. It took 30min to figure out that my order had already been done and given to someone else because there was no communication between the kitchen, order staff or pick up staff. no apology, just got my food after the argument 3minutes later...Food was average, definitely not worth a 30min wait.

Upon walking in, surprised there was no waiter service. You order at the counter (but still get a minimum 15% tip option when tapping), grab your number, and pick a spot. Ordered black coffee and a cap, both of which came out our breakfast. While waiting for the food, had to get up twice to get condiments and a napkin to dry the table which had just been wiped down. The place, with a cool vintage setting, was packed minutes after we got there and so the noise level jumped up to a 9 in no time. As for the food... Classic B'fast (eggs, hash browns, toast) was good but quite greasy all-around and on the smaller side for $15. The French Toast was nice and soft, with a strong blueberry taste and decent amount of berries, whipped cream, compote. Overall, 4 stars for the food, coffee was strong but came out warm; setting (with tons of natural light and hugh windows) gets 3.5 stars; service 3, since they drop off your food and NEVER come back to check on you, so you're not tipping for extra attention. Glad I finally stopped by. Will not repeat with so many great breakfast options nearby.
