My wife and I have been going to Pie 'n Burger for many years. We probably dine there 6 or 7 times each year. Burgers and Pies are their specialties but I really like their Patty Melt. Today my wife had her usual burger and a root beer float. I wanted something different so I ordered their chicken pot pie. Being a child of the sixties and from a large family, I'm no stranger to chicken pot pies. My dad would buy them in bulk when they were on sale at ten for a dollar. Well, I've had the Pie 'n Burger version a couple of years ago but the one today rocked my world. Yes, a good chicken pot can do that. Anyway, our meals were outstanding and only topped by the excellent service we received from our waitress, Tyler. She was very friendly, attentive and helpful. Even though my pot pie needed to be heated just a bit longer after it was served, she made it right by warming it up some more. It was piping hot and delicious!!! When the bill came she apologized for the way she served the pot pie and didn't charge me for it. I was blown away!!! First time here and got recommended the burger combo with a side of your choice ($19.50), nothing to rave about as it's just a very standard traditional burger, and cheese costed $.50 extra. I think the real treat was when my friend and I shared a slice of pie - I recommend the Key Lime pie! Overall slightly pricey (2 ppl we spent $30), but considering inflation and all it makes sense. Heads up: it's cash only, and the on-site ATM charges a $2.50 fee, so plan ahead. Pros: The decor nails the nostalgia. The classic milkshake machine, old school cash register, and diner seating all feel authentic rather than manufactured. The peach pie, warmed with ice cream on top, was genuinely great and worth the trip on its own. The burger had a solid homemade quality to it. Cons: The price felt steep for what's ultimately a pretty standard burger. You're paying more for the time capsule experience than for the food itself. Went to Mercedes dealer customer event and Pie 'nnNurger were outside grilling up fresh burgers, onions and french fries! And sliced pies! RSVP event gained us a red food ticket to receive the food. I recommend getting cash at your bank ATM before stopping by. We were trying to divvy up what we could order with what we had on us until we discovered the ATM. We ordered shareables, so we started with an one of the egg breakfasts combos, and added a side of pancakes and a lemon merengue pie to go. What stood out is the jams/preserves were house made, as well as their salsa. The salsa has a kick but it is good. I couldn't say anything bad about what we ate because it was SO good. I really wanted to like this place. I came here to treat my family to a nice lunch, but from the start something felt off. A group that walked in after us was seated, handed menus, and had their orders taken all while we sat there waiting, trying to catch someone's eye. We were never brought menus at all, and when we did finally get our server's attention, they seemed reluctant to help us. My roommate and I came for national cheeseburger week! It's a small countertop diner. They had a combo deal with a cheeseburger/hamburger, side, and drink for $17 which is a great deal! The burger was pretty good and I'm not even a fan of burgers! Very fresh and perfectly cooked. The patty itself was pretty plain. We got banana merengue and boysenberry pie. For lunch, we each had the CHEESEBURGER COMBO with fries. Their burgers are great! I also love the old-school fountain sodas that they make in-house. For pie, we've tried the APPLE, BOYSENBERRY, and RHUBARB. They are all delicious! We've also tried the CARROT CAKE, which is super tasty as well. I definitely recommend getting your pie with ice cream and/or the homemade whipped cream. Service can be a little slow, but everyone that works there is really friendly. Had a few drs appts in Pasadena so decided to make a day of it and wanted to go shopping at nearby stores. We parked in a parking lot that technically wasn't for them but we had no issues. Place is very small but cute.. we sat in the back and ordered quickly. I got the burger and my son got the pot pie. It was ok.. my burger was pink and that grosses me out. If the burgers were cheaper I would go out of my way for it. The fries are really basic, same thing you'd find at just about any small burger place. The Soda was good, it's cool that for their cokes they manually put the syrup in and mix it, I've never seen that before but know it's common for old restaurants. However, for $4 you get a super small glass that's filled with ice, not really worth the price since it's like three sips worth. The Banana Pie was AMAZING, I would definitely go out of my way just for this. I would highly recommend to get this Overall, I think it's very expensive for what you get, but was worth the try. For a place that emphasized burgers we expected beefy patties, not McDonalds size burger patties. They were tasty but they were Not what we expected for, like I said, a place emphasizing burgers. However, I had to update my review because I was truly shocked at the pricing for my takeout meal today. I got a veggie burger with fries, my husband got a tri tip sandwich with included onion rings, and a small side of macaroni salad- we both ordered soda and shared one piece of peach pie. The sodas are 12 oz size and filled with ice. Typically 12oz is what comes in a kids meal and 16 Oz is a small soda at most restaurants. This place only takes cash, and has an ATM inside. The cost for this was $70. For carry out. The portions were average to small on the fries & onion rings. The pie piece was large. The food was great, as always. However, it isn't often that I am shocked by value for money. It's expensive to get takeout these days, I get it. But $70 ?! I feel like for that price we should have at least had our Diet Coke & root beer presented in a size typical of most restaurants (16 oz). The macaroni salad portion was also quite small. I woke up with a hankering for pancakes this morning, so my bestie and I met up at the diner. I ordered a short stack of thin pancakes ($10.25) with a side of bacon ($6.50) and one egg ($4.00). My friend and I ordered a very basic breakfast and coffee and paid $60, including tip. I've had great service in the past. Today was just okay. It seemed like morale was low. The diner wasn't very crowded being a Tuesday morning. We were seated quickly and were greeted by a friendly server. The coffee ($3.95) was hot and got refilled once. When we were ready to leave, I needed a to-go container. It was challenging to get someone to help me. The diner was nearly empty and there were literally 4 servers behind the counter, 2 on their phones (including our server). I kinda think the other servers were just staring to see if she'd notice us. When she did look up, she got the box fairly quickly. I had this place bookmarked for a long time and found myself in the area so decided to stop for lunch. It's not too difficult to guess what I had ... The burger was excellent. Tasted great from the grill and had fresh lettuce, tomato, pickles, grilled onions. I opted for no cheese. There also some homemade thousand island dressing, which was delicious. After, we tried some peach pie, which the waitress said was excellent because it was in season, and Dutch apple because I love it Both were beyond amazing. Sunday 3-15-2026 about 2pm. My wife and I were in Pasadena to check out a taping of Americas Got Talent so we wanted to grab lunch before hand. We decided on this place as we had heard about it and decided to check it out. First of all, the place is cash only so keep that in mind when coming here (In 2026, there are actually restaurants that are still cash only?? I guess money laundering or tax evasion is still alive). They have an ATM you can use but it charged me $2.50 to use it. Also they have free parking but very limited. The place is small inside but adequate. We looked over the menu and decided on 2 cheeseburger combos (burger and side no soda). At $21 for each combo we thought this was high but wanted to get and try the food before passing judgement. Well my wife got a Coke and I got a diet coke. They came in small college dorm cafeteria glasses. My wife took a sip of her coke and said it was flat and I tasted it and it had NO carbonation. No problem we thought and we asked a server (who was not our primary server who was very nice) about it to get it replaced and that is when she rudely cut us off saying they mix the sodas themselves and irritatedly came off like we were a problem! We have never been here before and there is no posting on the menu signs that they formulate the Coke themselves. We basically had to override her lack of customer service and just tell her we needed another with actual carbonation in it. She came back and it was ok this time but what a hassle for a $3.99 coke! Then the food came and it looked ok. The burger was ok. It was fresh but not better than a Double Double from in an out but WAY more expensive. After eating, when getting rang up by the owner at the old school register, we mentioned everything was ok except a server, who had left for the day at this point, that was pretty rude when correcting a mistake with my wife's drink. When you come from In N Out country (like me) it's very hard to find a cheeseburger as excellent and delicious as their Double - Double - period! Add in the $7.00 price tag, of this lush A-One cheeseburger it hard to find a comparison. Here in Pasadena, CA Pie 'n Burger was a bit more money than my coveted Double Double, but it was equal to or maybe even a little bit better than. Yes, I said better than! That's a rarified statement! This "Old School" diner (established in 1963) has very few tables and one rather large counter. You get to watch the cooks do their magic making steak and eggs, pancakes and other coffee shop fare. These "Hash Slingers" are down right great chefs. That's right, I said chefs! My cheeseburger here was just that delicious. It was messy, gooey, fall apart wonderful. This was a rare find. Of course I've heard Pie 'n Burger for decades; but I never found the time to make this drive, as it was just to far from where I lived. Luckily on this trip to SoCal I was staying minutes away. Been wanting to try this place for some time. Finally got here today. Definitely like stepping back to the '60s, including the paneled walls and the mechanical push button cas register. Speaking of, it is cash only here, but there is an ATM by the door. I ordered the burger combo with Onion Rings. I asked for grilled onions on the burger. My wife ordered the chili cheese fries. The first bite revealed how fresh and tasty this burger is! I confirmed that there beef is fresh and not frozen. The chili cheese fries were good and the scratch made chili was excellent. For dessert we shared a blueberry pie with a lot of freshly whipped cream. It was soooo good. The server was nice and helpful. Overall I was impressed with the quality of the food here. We eat here when we have to do something in the Caltech area. It's cool and retro to experience especially if you're Gen X and younger (since we never lived through that era to know). Ah those short order chefs are fantastic--everything is delicious and cooked perfectly. Fries fried right and burgers stuffed with fresh tomatoes, lots of lettuce, toasted buns and pickles. Really can't go wrong on the pies. We asked our server what she liked and she said something we tried: banana cream pie with the fresh whipped cream instead of the meringue. Whoa amazing!
