Banana Merengue Pie, Boysenberry Pie
Lila S.

My roommate and I came for national cheeseburger week! It's a small countertop diner. They had a combo deal with a cheeseburger/hamburger, side, and drink for $17 which is a great deal! The burger was pretty good and I'm not even a fan of burgers! Very fresh and perfectly cooked. The patty itself was pretty plain. We got banana merengue and boysenberry pie. We had never had boysenberry before, it was sweet and jammy. The banana merengue was good too, I think I liked it more. The merengue was light and fluffy. Get there early if you want to try the lemon merengue pie, they said they only make one per day.

Pie 'n Burger has been around since the early '60s, and, when you step inside, it transports you back with its formica counters and the soda fountain setup. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, in addition to pies and kid options. We came here, hearing about their tasty burgers and chili, so we ordered the Hamburger Combo (with cheese), and a side of chili cheese fries. Unfortunately, the food was inedible. The burger, while the buns were toasted with butter, giving it a nice crisp, was overcooked; the cheese wasn't even melted, and the patty itself was pure down raw - not even medium rare or rare, but completely raw. The fries weren't even served warm, and the chili that they used was pretty gross. Not sure how this place even gets business - it was definitely one of the worst meals we've had in quite some time. Service was okay when a server finally came over after about 10+ minutes, but with only a couple of parties dining in, the staff had no sense of urgency to greet, provide information of whether we seat ourselves or wait to be seated, and/or take our orders. No dice, Pie 'n Burger. +raw patties served +avoid the chili +inattentive and lack of service +small parking lot available

Pie & Burger is a longtime local favorite, and with good reason. The food is consistently delicious, fresh, homemade and service is always top notch. However, I had to update my review because I was truly shocked at the pricing for my takeout meal today. I got a veggie burger with fries, my husband got a tri tip sandwich with included onion rings, and a small side of macaroni salad- we both ordered soda and shared one piece of peach pie. The sodas are 12 oz size and filled with ice. Typically 12oz is what comes in a kids meal and 16 Oz is a small soda at most restaurants. This place only takes cash, and has an ATM inside. The cost for this was $70. For carry out. The portions were average to small on the fries & onion rings. The pie piece was large. The food was great, as always. However, it isn't often that I am shocked by value for money. It's expensive to get takeout these days, I get it. But $70 ?! I feel like for that price we should have at least had our Diet Coke & root beer presented in a size typical of most restaurants (16 oz). The macaroni salad portion was also quite small. I rarely complain, and want to reiterate the food is fantastic-but I just don't think we got a meal worth $70.

Had a few drs appts in Pasadena so decided to make a day of it and wanted to go shopping at nearby stores. We parked in a parking lot that technically wasn't for them but we had no issues. Place is very small but cute.. we sat in the back and ordered quickly. I got the burger and my son got the pot pie. It was ok.. my burger was pink and that grosses me out. As I think it does most people! I ate it cause I was starving for and didn't want to wait for another burger. My son's pot pie looked pretty!! I watched her pull it outta the microwave.. I was disappointed in that but oh well. My son said it was just.. it's cash only and that's not convenient but I had read on another review so I made sure I had some. I don't live near there so can't say I'll be back..

My husband and I have been to Pie 'n Burger twice now after hearing about their great pies from a friend. We visited again today, and it was just as good as the first time. For lunch, we each had the CHEESEBURGER COMBO with fries. Their burgers are great! I also love the old-school fountain sodas that they make in-house. For pie, we've tried the APPLE, BOYSENBERRY, and RHUBARB. They are all delicious! We've also tried the CARROT CAKE, which is super tasty as well. I definitely recommend getting your pie with ice cream and/or the homemade whipped cream. Service can be a little slow, but everyone that works there is really friendly. There's also usually a wait-time on the weekends, so prepare to wait anywhere from five to thirty minutes for a seat. Cash only!! There's an ATM inside.

We lived in Pasadena in the 80s, and when my wife was pregnant with our younger daughter, Pie 'n Burger served her holy trinity: a burger, onion rings, and a slice of peanut butter pie. After disappearing for a few decades (me, not the diner), I finally went back for lunch and ordered the exact same thing. I'm happy to report that absolutely nothing has changed--the food is still delicious, the counter service is still fast and friendly, and the interior is still stubbornly, gloriously old school. Hooray for nostalgia on a plate!

We were excited to finally try this place! The sign in the front is appealing , especially if you love Pie and Burgers!...which we do. It's not a fancy place. It has an old style atmosphere with plenty of bar seating with tables towards the back of the restaurant. There were five people at the counter and the tables were empty. We chose a table. Service was ok. Our waitress seemd hesitant or 'offstandish' at first but loosened up a little, cracking at least a little smile towards the end. We ordered a cheeseburger/ fries and a Patty Melt/ onion rings meals. Our first thought when we received our food was, 'Where's the Beef?!' For a place that emphasized burgers we expected beefy patties, not McDonalds size burger patties. They were tasty but they were Not what we expected for, like I said, a place emphasizing burgers. The coffee was great but I never got a refil...not one!...and the place wasn't even that busy to where a waitress would lose track! So, we're glad we crossed this off our Bucket list. This is a 'One-and done' for us. Maybe if we lived in the area we would return but we will not be making another road trip to visit Pie N Burger .

Don't over think it: order pie and burger when you get here! This time capsule reliably serves up these classics. I recently arrived on a rainy day and the vibes were perfect for sitting at the counter to enjoy the food. The hamburger had a perfectly toasted bun and was cooked exactly how I liked it. It was hard to choose the pie from the plethora of options, but we eventually settled on boysenberry. Our server was extremely kind and brought out the whip cream on the side after we declined whip cream since my date didn't want any the side. (She could read my mind that I really wanted it. :-)

I ordered the Hamburger Combo, and a Banana Pie Key points: Tough Parking, best to just park on the street close by Cash Only!! (There's an ATM inside) This place is cool because it feels like you're in a restaurant in the 60's, even the register is super vintage, but even though everything is old, the prices are VERY up to date. For $34 before tip, I got a cheeseburger with fries, soda, and a slice of pie. The cheeseburger was good, it was a bit messy and overloaded with lettuce, but still had good flavor. If the burgers were cheaper I would go out of my way for it. The fries are really basic, same thing you'd find at just about any small burger place. The Soda was good, it's cool that for their cokes they manually put the syrup in and mix it, I've never seen that before but know it's common for old restaurants. However, for $4 you get a super small glass that's filled with ice, not really worth the price since it's like three sips worth. The Banana Pie was AMAZING, I would definitely go out of my way just for this. I would highly recommend to get this Overall, I think it's very expensive for what you get, but was worth the try. The service was good food came out super super quick. But unfortunately I don't see myself making another visit.

Sunday 3-15-2026 about 2pm. My wife and I were in Pasadena to check out a taping of Americas Got Talent so we wanted to grab lunch before hand. We decided on this place as we had heard about it and decided to check it out. First of all, the place is cash only so keep that in mind when coming here (In 2026, there are actually restaurants that are still cash only?? I guess money laundering or tax evasion is still alive). They have an ATM you can use but it charged me $2.50 to use it. Also they have free parking but very limited. The place is small inside but adequate. We looked over the menu and decided on 2 cheeseburger combos (burger and side no soda). At $21 for each combo we thought this was high but wanted to get and try the food before passing judgement. Well my wife got a Coke and I got a diet coke. They came in small college dorm cafeteria glasses. My wife took a sip of her coke and said it was flat and I tasted it and it had NO carbonation. No problem we thought and we asked a server (who was not our primary server who was very nice) about it to get it replaced and that is when she rudely cut us off saying they mix the sodas themselves and irritatedly came off like we were a problem! We have never been here before and there is no posting on the menu signs that they formulate the Coke themselves. We basically had to override her lack of customer service and just tell her we needed another with actual carbonation in it. She came back and it was ok this time but what a hassle for a $3.99 coke! Then the food came and it looked ok. The burger was ok. It was fresh but not better than a Double Double from in an out but WAY more expensive. After eating, when getting rang up by the owner at the old school register, we mentioned everything was ok except a server, who had left for the day at this point, that was pretty rude when correcting a mistake with my wife's drink. He said he would "mention" it to her but did not seem sincere. Honestly, this hiccup does not change my overall review though. The food was over priced and average. Would I come again? No.

The food was good, my server was kind, but the prices were unbelievable. I'm still giving it 4 stars because it was my choice to stay and eat after seeing the cost. But I checked Yelp and their website before coming in and neither mentioned that the restaurant is CASH ONLY. I'm attaching a photo of the menu I received today, and a photo of the menu shared here 10 years ago. Is it expected for prices to change in 10 years? Yes. But $19.50 for a simple beef burger and fries is just not what I expected to pay at an old-fashioned diner. Chicken tenders and fries were $22! Maybe I didn't account for the 'historic' nature of this particular diner, or what regulars would be willing to pay. Either way, wanted to give any future customers the heads up.

Cute little place, a long counter Tried to come a few times but was always too busy, a good sign I'd say. I got a Burger and fries, both were good, my dining partner had a piece of Dutch apple pie, I forgot to take pics, but the pie looked a little worn, like someone picked the crumbs from it's top. Our iced teas were refilled and the place is ok. It has a counter the length of the restaurant and is just an old time place. It's ok for what it is. The raw onions on the burger were really a nice addition. We wouldn't go out of our way to come back. No one seemed too friendly and those we interacted with seemed burned out, though smiles miraculously appeared when delivering the bill.

I used to love going to Pie 'n Burger for, well, their pie and burgers. But those who know know that they have great pancakes! I woke up with a hankering for pancakes this morning, so my bestie and I met up at the diner. I ordered a short stack of thin pancakes ($10.25) with a side of bacon ($6.50) and one egg ($4.00). My egg was perfectly cooked to order, over medium. I got three strips of bacon, but they were a little overcooked and chewy this time. I like my bacon crispy. My pancakes were exactly what I was craving. Thin enough to soak up my syrup, so I didn't need to pour a lot. They were so light and buttery. The pancakes are also quite big. I was satisfied and couldn't even finish them. It's been a while since I've eaten here, and not much has changed. It looks like they haven't changed the furniture or decor since 1963, which is part of its charm. It's still cash only. However, the prices have gone up, just like everywhere else. My friend and I ordered a very basic breakfast and coffee and paid $60, including tip. I've had great service in the past. Today was just okay. It seemed like morale was low. The diner wasn't very crowded being a Tuesday morning. We were seated quickly and were greeted by a friendly server. The coffee ($3.95) was hot and got refilled once. When we were ready to leave, I needed a to-go container. It was challenging to get someone to help me. The diner was nearly empty and there were literally 4 servers behind the counter, 2 on their phones (including our server). I kinda think the other servers were just staring to see if she'd notice us. When she did look up, she got the box fairly quickly. I'd still come back because I value local businesses and Pie n Burger is an integral part of Pasadena. I hope their prices don't get any higher and that morale picks up.

Tonight we decided to switch things up a little, and hubby ordered the bacon cheeseburger. Normally we prefer the quarter-pound patty, but this one was slightly thicker, which definitely made us feel full a lot quicker. That said, the burger was still super juicy, had the right filling-to-meat ratio, and came on that perfectly soft bun that holds everything together without falling apart. Solid choice. I stuck with my usual chicken breast salad, and it was delicious as always. Fresh, satisfying, and dependable -- although I'll admit I'm still not a fan of bell peppers, so those got politely pushed to the side. One thing I have noticed over time is that the fries seem to be getting a little smaller in portion each visit. I also miss the thicker-cut fries from about six months ago -- those were my favorite. The current ones still do the job, but the old style definitely had my heart. Overall, this is still a definite must-try spot if you're craving a good burger. Consistent, satisfying, and always hits the spot. Happy eats!

Here's where the problems started and why I gave them a low rating!!! Both burritos were cut in half and neither burrito had crispy hash browns!!! The hash browns were actually mushy!!! My sister was given a bacon and ham burrito and although they add a lot of bacon to their burritos and they chop it so it's mixed throughout the burritos, the sausages were left as whole links and placed together so when the burrito is rolled, all of the sausage is on one side and not mixed through!!! Each bite should be a mix of ingredients and not just bad sausage links!!! The scrambled eggs were over cooked and their salsa is extremely bland and if it's not going to have any spice, then just make it as a pico for more flavor and textural contrast!!! Lastly, the video on Facebook must've been very old because the two (2) burritos and two (2) drinks were more than $35.00!!! Just a complete waste of time, money and the gas it took to drive there!!! If this is "Pasadena's Best Breakfast Burrito" then that's just sad!!! These were clearly not great burritos!!!
