I've been to the HiHo in Studio City and really loved it, so I came to the Pasadena location for the first time the other day. I really loved their burgers last time at their other location, but felt like it was a bit too salty this time unfortunately. I just got their HiHo, which is a double smash patty with lettuce, pickles, ketchup, and grilled onions. Despite the saltiness, the flavors were great and it is a solid burger. Sharing the same space as Cheesesteak by Matu, HiHo usually doesn't have much of a line, so you can simply walk up and place your order. I thought the burgers were just okay, on the smaller side, and the lettuce in it was a bit soggy, which is a big no-no for me. My husband, on the other hand, isn't picky about burgers and happily finished them without complaint. What really earns this place five stars for me are the Willie Mae chicken tenders and the chicken sandwich. Holy moly! I've had Willie Mae's in New Orleans before, and this version is just as good if not better. The chicken is hot, crispy, and incredibly flavorful. I wish the order comes with more than two, but they are giant tenders and very filling. It's a good side to share with a burger. My favorite part of the tender was crispy and light breading that was glazed with honey and other spices, you have to try to it know what I mean! I finally made it to HiHo cheeseburger in Pasadena to see if the hype is real. HiHo cheeseburger has been called the best burger in California. They're known for the Wagyu beef and simple, quality ingredients. I wanted to love this place but the burger was underwhelming. The Wagyu patty itself was the only part that lived up to the hype; it's juicy, lightly seasoned with salt and pepper, and cooked to a perfect medium. It was all downhill after that though; the bun was not toasted, the shredded lettuce was wet which made the bottom bum soggy. The pickles were thick and mushy with no crunch, so instead of a balanced, satisfying bite you get a soft mush of ingredients. The thick cut fries were much better than expected. They're nicely fried and well seasoned. They were the best part of the meal, and I hate thick cut fries. I paid around $25 for a Mexican Coke, a HiHo Double, and the fries, and for that price it didn't feel worth it. It wasn't even as good as a picanha burger and fries you can get for $10 at Fogo de Chao down the street. Service was friendly, the food came out fast, and the place is run well. They have a limited but well balanced menu. They've got house made desserts like banana cream and key lime pies and from scratch milkshakes, which looked tempting and might be worth coming back for. They have a chicken sandwich too, if that's your thing. Overall, I'm glad I tried it but the burger didn't live up to the hype for me. Worth a shot if you're curious. So I got my first taste of HiHo in Studio City a while ago and I was like "Shyeet, that's some tasty shyeet. Wish there was one near me." Well, here we are now and they've put one right in my hood. It's right next to Tender Greens and parking is always a pain in these parts, especially if you're looking for a free spot. There's always the paid parking garage accessible on the north-south street right next to Tender Geeens. It's six bucks though. You've been warned. Oh yeah, another thing is that this HiHo is not a traditional, fast-food restaurant setting like the Studio City spot. It's basically just two windows: one where you order and the other where you pick up. There are seats and tables in an adjacent, covered patio area, but it's relatively small and it's shared with another eatery - a really popular Philly cheesesteak spot called Matu or something that runs out of bread and meat after a couple hours. So during prime time, you're going to have to wait a bit for a seat. Also, because it's like a pick-up-and-go spot, there are no fountain drinks (just cans and bottles) or bathrooms here. Just FYI. Anyway, so HiHo burgers are terrific. They really are dayum good and some of the best around. But the one I got here wasn't as good as the one I had in Studio City. The bun wasn't crisped properly and was a bit soggy. And the patties seemed a little overcooked. Still, it's a lot better than like 95% of the other burger spots in the area. Fries were a little greasier than I remembered as well and a bit soggy. And these are some of the best fries you'll get (they're Belgian style). And if I can recall, they give you like a garlic aioli dip in the Studio City spot. Not here though (or maybe you have to ask for it...I don't know). I suspect the quality control has declined because it's a super popular spot right now and they are a bit rushed when crafting the stuff back there. I think that might be it. Finally checked out Hiho this weekend. Came by around noon on a Sunday. No lines for ordering. Half of seating open but not shaded. A few inside tables opened up after a few minutes. I got Hiho and hubby the Big Matty with fries. Pros: - quality patty, very juicy and flavorful. Was literally non stopping dripping the entire time - I love their pickles wish I ordered extra - grilled onions were delicious too - tallow fries extremely crispy - quick service. Our food came out about 12 minutes so better than I expected based on other reviews here Cons: - from the double wagyu patty, to tallow fries, everything is so unctuous. But half way through felt a bit heavy. Especially the fries felt overly greasy - because Wagyu, they didn't really flatten down the patty as much as traditional smash burger. So missing the crispy edges and smokiness I usually love - I didn't love the matty sauce like other reviews. Was a bit too tangy for me, just a personal preference Overall it was a high quality burger but I couldn't eat this more than once a month... this for sure is heavier and more of a treat than regular smash burger. read more

They are very plain, if you're into that then you will like these, but I would recommend for them to add Cajun to it. The Matty sauce is good, but $1.75 for a small sauce is crazy. Overall, I feel most complaints that will be coming in on Yelp will be because of the wait, but that will get fixed with time as they establish themselves since they just opened. I ordered the HiHo Cheeseburger (cheese, ketchup, slow-cooked onions, lettuce, house-made pickles and mustard) and a side of French Fries. I'll be honest, the burger was good, but not great. The bun was soggy and the size of the burger was pretty small, even though it was a "double." I was expecting a little more for the price you pay. I will say they give you a good portion of fries, but you do have to order them separately. My friends also ordered the Banana Cream Pie and Key Lime Pie, which were both delicious! I feel like I enjoyed the other items more than the burger, which isn't great since it's a burger joint. I love HiHo. Their burgers are consistently delicious. Their fries are probably some of the best around. Their prices are reasonable and service is fast. This location shares a space with a cheesesteak spot and has no indoor seating, so seating is a bit tough and uncomfortable with patrons constantly standing around waiting for orders from two different spots. But the food is the same amazing quality and it's their first location on this side of town, so I'm not complaining. read more

First the bad: I had to deduct a star because the ranch dipping sauce they charge you $2.05 for ($1.75 plus 6% fee and sales tax) is TINNNNNNYYYY.. see photo.. I get you need to charge for sauce but that's over kill. Now the good: My husband said their burger was really good. He'd come back for that. I visited HiHo recently on a Friday (5pm-ish). The line was very short and I was able to order quickly. I got street parking. I ordered the Pastrami Heat burger. Overall it was good. At least, it was a better burger than I have ever been able to make at home. Flavor was good. I will say though, it was extremely messy and soggy which made it very difficult to handle. I had no choice but to hold the burger in my hand the entire time I was eating otherwise it would have fallen apart. This aspect of it sort of ruined the experience for me as I couldn't really take my time to enjoy the burger. I basically had to rush to eat it quickly. I would go as far as saying it was the soggiest burger I've ever eaten, lol. I am still giving it 4 stars because again it's still better than anything I've made at home, but in truth I likely wouldn't come back mainly due to the soggy bun. Fries were amazing. Like many other reviews said, the bottom of the bun falls apart and is super soggy because they put the wet lettuce mix underneath the burger, above the bottom bun. We had to flip the burger and eat it upside down. Seems to be an easy fix, however for some reason after all the negative comments they don't change it. It makes a big difference when the burger falls apart, doesn't make it enjoyable to eat. The burger itself was good but the bun ruined the experience sadly. Also, the wait was pretty long for being the first one to order ahead of a bunch of people. After I finished my burger the folks who ordered right after me still hadn't gotten their order yet. I suggest arriving early because of this. On the upside, the fries were amazing! The matty sauce and the ranch sauce sides were delicious. read more
