Breakfast Burrito
Benjamin C.

Lucky Boy A patient of mine was recommending this place as a good breakfast spot for breakfast burritos. I am a big breakfast burrito advocate. I do like them a certain way, though. I gave this place a try early in the morning. Plenty of parking before 8am on a weekday. It had very retro diner vibes and the service was very quick. The burrito was massive, and it was pretty good. I only wished I could choose more than one meat, I ended up with bacon, which was extremely crispy. The potatoes were a bit overwhelming for me. You'll definitely be full after this meal!

I visited this location on a Sunday. The venue has a small private lot so parking is doable. There is also street parking if the lot is full. Ordering is done outside via a window. The menu is vast as it has breakfast & lunch options. I opted for the famous breakfast burrito with bacon & a lemonade. I was not prepared for that burrito. Size is comparable with chipotle. The burrito comes with a side of salsa which was nice. Indoor seating is also available with traditional diner booths. Self serve ketchup, pepper, napkins, & peppers are available as well. The burrito was a 9/10 for me as I felt it needed a bit more seasoning. Overall, a very yummy burrito. The staff were open to questions & very kind. It can be a bit loud as the venue can get packed however the venue has a nice selection of music ranging in genres which was a plus. I def want to come back for the zucchini fries & to try one of the burgers.

This is an iconic Pasadena location that's been around longer than I've been alive. While the fries are good and the burger is solid, there is nothing special here to set it apart from other local spots. The staff is standard and the vibe is your typical retro stand. $20 for a burger, fries, and a drink. The value doesn't justify the hype. It isn't a bad meal, but it certainly didn't earn my praise.

Ordering came on a Friday around 10:15am you know this place is loved heavily by the community! Their breakfast burritos live up the size hype especially in this economy! The burrito is legit as big as my face elongated! Food came out fast too! The inside tells so much history! The burrito its self was pretty bland definitely recommend adding a side of ranch or another salsa!

This morning, I saw a breakfast burrito online and wanted to eat a breakfast burrito, so I made a commitment to come here and drive up through the wavy 110n freeway to get a burrito I haven't had for close to a decade. I gotta breakfast avocado burrito and the person I went with got a sausage breakfast burrito. It felt like they put an entire avocado in my burrito. It was hot and steamy all the way through and the salsa just makes it so delightful to eat. The sausage breakfast burrito came with 5 whole pieces of sausage. In addition to the main ingredient, there were crispy hash browns, eggs and cheese in the burritos. Plus they were like maybe 3 times bigger than what you'd find at a typical breakfast burrito joint. All for $11.90 in this economy? I feel that pricing is better than practically anywhere in LA for a breakfast burrito nowadays. The service was quick and attentive. There is a diner to eat in with a patio. If I could've ate more, I would've got more things. But it's definitely worth going here to get some extra large, hot and steamy breakfast burritos for sure!

Breakfast burrito craving net. Though maybe there's more egg and potatoes vs. sausage.... Still yummy and giant. For what you pay plus the salsa, Ismael this a regular spot. Super simple inside an outside, it's definitely a smaller party situation. Or as always, pick up! Parking is alright. Not a ton but enough. Service is fast and friendly. Perfect for a super simpler hole in the wall local joint.

We came by in the afternoon and got a bacon breakfast burrito and a sausage breakfast burrito. We wanted to try the chorizo one, but we came after 10:30am -- next time! The burritos were huge. Lots of potato. Fillings are not evenly distributed so each bite is a mystery. Straightforward diner experience. The booths were cozy. Seemed like a nice place to sit and yap.

First time here.... Been wanting to come since I saw them on IG. Didnt realize you ordered at a window and hoped for seating inside. My mom was really craving a hot dog and they had them on the menu, so she got that. I ordered the carne asada burrito with guacamole and cheese. I thought I ordered the breakfast version but I did not. We also ordered a med French fry. The fries were bomb! The hit dog was a good size, and she really liked it. Ok, the burrito was huge and stuffed! It had rice, beans, carne, cheese, guac and pico. I could only eat about a quarter of it. The carne was sliced, not chopped as I thought it was be, but good flavor and tender. The gentleman at the window was very nice, but I felt rushed...especially since it was my first time- I had questions. We went in and grabbed a table and waited no more than 10 minutes for our food. Overall, great place and delicious food. Will definitely go back.

Breakfast burrito, as advertised. Really really really good! Did I mention that they have the best breakfast burrito! Service was excellent, fast and easy.

Thought I reviewed this sometime ago! I've been here at least 4 times in the last year. It's been consistent every time- clean, quick, fresh & hot food! You can order at the outside window. There's seating in or outdoors. It's a bit pricey- regular sized fountain drink is $3 and side of fries $5. Zucchini fries very bland. Would be good with seasoning salt & garlic, but you get a very big amount. Fries are good standard ones.

Delicious pastrami chili cheese fries here! Some of the best around. It was my first visit here and i saw people on tik tok talking about them so got on the metro and took a trip. You can catch the blue line all the way to the fillmore station and walk one block here if you want to save gas and time driving in traffic. But yes the pastrami with onions they put on this plate is top notch! You can get a large or small. My picture is the small and is enough for one person to eat! They are famous for their breakfast burritos but that will be for another day when i come back. Crew here is pretty nice. They have outside and inside seating. They have a bathroom in the back which is a bonus. Overall i had a good experience here and would come back. Pastrami Chili cheese fries 9.0\10 rating!

Been coming to this spot on Saturday morning after the gym for years now. It's always the busiest during this time simply because of one thing: their famous breakfast burritos. So this review is only for their breakfast burritos, and not any of their other menu items. Pros: - Large. They stuff a lot of egg, potatoes and your protein in there. You will be full after you eat one and you'll probably have to skip lunch. - Salsa. Their red sauce is delicious and they give you plenty of it. It's not too spicy at all; just enough heat to spice things up. And it tastes fresh. Cons: - Inconsistent. Sometimes the potatoes inside aren't crisped enough and are a bit undercooked. Bacon is often overcooked and will just about wreck the inside of your mouth. - Cut the sausages please. Instead, they just lazily stuff the uncut links inside and there's an uneven distribution of the meat. You'll need to take 3 or 4 bites to get your first taste of sausage. - A little pricey. Not the best breakfast burrito I've ever had, but definitely solid and filling for sure.

Bacon Burrito (inconsistent portions)
Erika T.

Small ish parking lot and can get busy in the mornings/ at noon. We came Saturday before noon around 11 and just beat the rush. The portions are big but one thing that caught me off guard was how different my burrito was from my friends. We both ordered the bacon burrito and there was such a HUGE difference in ingredient potions, idk how it could've happened even if they were busy. That would be the only con especially since I wouldn't want me burrito to be majority potato /: Overall it's a basic spot where you can grab something to eat and still be satisfied and not expect a ton

Simple but great.

Do they have beer battered onion rings?

Lucky boy has their own recipe for their onion rings which are famous since 1961. They do not use beer.

Did the bacon change? The last couple of times getting the breakfast burrito the bacon had a sweet taste to it

I ordered the sausage burrito but don't think they change out the bacon.

How's the rueben sandwich? I was just at the arroyo Pkwy location and I was informed they don't have it?

It's actually a Classic Rueben. And it's very good.

Will you be open the morning January 2nd 2023?

I've eaten there on New Year's Day after the Rose Parade in past years, so I'm almost certain they will be open.

Wait, so can we order breakfast burrito's all day or only until 10:30am??Thanks in advance🙏🏼☀️

Breakfast Burritos should be available all day, only Chorizo stops being served by 11am.

Are dogs allowed?

They are allowed in the outdoor seating area.

Help me decide, fellow Yelpers - for my first time, should I go for a breakfast burrito with pastrami or pastrami chili cheese fries? Are the burritos still served all day…

Get the breakfast burrito HALF BACON/ HALF SAUSAGE and pastrami fries on side!! The burritos are served allday, the signs just old like the owner lol!! Get an orange bang or horchata while you're at it!!!

Does anyone OG from Pasadena know if this is the same Lucky Boy from the late eighties/early nineties that made bomb ground beef tacos? I'm headed down south next week and I need to know if I should detour!

yes it is original lucky boys

Are breakfast burritos all day? my life depends on this answer just FYI

Yes, all day! And it's not cash only. They accept card. I paid with card today. Chip and all.

Can you get the breakfast burrito without meat or are they pre-made?

Made to order. If u want no meat ask for no meat.

My coworker and I went all in on the birria lineup, because the whole office was talking about birria so we grabbed the Birria Papas (w added guacamole) and Birria Tacos. The papas came out swinging: legit hand-cut fries piled high like they had something to prove. Messy, loaded, and worth every napkin. The tacos were a little on the petite side, like "did I accidentally order the sample version?" but still tasty enough to keep me from complaining too loudly. Now let's talk about the secret hot sauce. First of all, why is it secret?!?!? 2nd of all, I get it. That stuff is not playing around. One bite and my mouth was on fire!!! If you like heat that punches back, this is your moment!! The spot itself is super clean, the staff is genuinely nice (not the fake "have a nice day" nice), and everything just felt easy and welcoming. Prices won't make your wallet cry either, which is always a bonus, esp how expensive everything is these days!! Only downside, the parking is a bit of a game of luck. We got there early and snagged a spot, but otherwise, you might want to park across the street and pretend it was your plan all along. Overall: great food, spicy surprises, and zero regrets!!! Would absolutely go back. Make sure to ask for the "secret hot sauce" you won't regret it!!!

Lots of seating, lots of parking( lot in the back). From the design and thought put into the decor, menu and all the other options (like candy, liquor, beer and wine) you get, it's pretty amazing. We ordered a plethora of items to see what would be our favorite. I gotta say it was pretty much everything. Super polite staff and the flavors of the food made you feel good. You're truly in for a treat. Asada burrito super bomb, great flavor decent size and for the price it's great. See I like to eat(like you!) so I wouldn't have minded if it was tad bit bigger and tad bit heavier. But flavor was super delicious. Crunchy potato tacos, like finger food, once I saw someone else's tacos I was like uh oh I'm gonna need a lot more tacos. Except we stuck to ordering a few items to just see how it goes. And yeah, like I said tacos are SMALL. Like baby size. Not normal if you ask me but to each their own I guess. Birria cup lacked meat, but the flavor was amazing, you get 3 baby sized corn tortillas and that's pretty much it. You would expect more meat but after looking at the taco sizes yeah. You ain't getting anymore! So order more! Asada fries as well, portion wise could have been more giving. Loved the house made fries, great touch. Or atleast I am assuming they are house made, tasted very fresh cut if you know what I mean. Except the portion is tiny, like everything else. So if anyone is understanding my lingo is that Madre Maiz doesn't really put out large portions, which makes you want to order more and spend more. Then again they have their flavor to compensate for the quantity? Last can't leave out the guacamole, fresh and delicious with the bag of chips. Now that food portion has been expressed, let's talk about the meat being slightly on the dryer side. Soft but definitely dryer than majority of the taquerias I have been too. The asada 100% was dry and lacked any form of juiciness. Flavor was there but just dry. 100% needed sauce. The red sauce was chipotle based, the orange was habanero, and the green was cilantro/maybe avocado based(no heat in the green). Every bit of sauce helped every bite. Was it worth trying and reviewing? Yes. Will I ever go back? 100% cause that burrito was pretty good. For 12-13 bucks it's not bad at all, might need two. Beautiful decor, and plenty of seating outside and limited on the inside.

The beef on the enchilada was on top of the enchilada NOT inside and it tasted like boiled beef with no flavor! I put it to the side. The inside just had a bit of shredded marble cheese. So disappointed. The beans were ok, restaurant quality, canned flavored. 2. The mole was very sweet and although that's not a bad thing, it still didn't have any kind of authenticity in the flavor it was as though it was just packaged sauce dumped on the chicken. 3. The kids quesadilla has bellpeppers and onions inside! Which was not disclosed on the menu. My kid likes bellpeppers but not the green ones and not in her quesadillas... come on.
