    Boxed to go
    Ann T.

Okay, look up the Alberto's -bertos SoCal variations. That's literally what happened here when I was foolishly baited in by not paying attention and thinking that since I was in Pasadena, naturally any Tops Burgers was the Original Tops (mind you, is like within the vicinity and a couple minutes away). I foolishly didn't realize until I was at the drive thru order menu and I was like wait a minute, this doesn't look familiar at all and at that point it was a tad too late and I was already looking at a super long commute back home. Service was polite and efficient enough for a big order and they put everything that I ordered in a white to go box, which was nice. Everything was SUPER oily and greasy though, so my car did smell like fried foods and the oil permeated the box and the napkins I didn't take out in time. From my order I got the: 1) Corndog: -I needed something to eat as I was driving almost an hour to get home and this was the most driving while eating friendly food on the menu. -It was probably my most favorite thing on the menu. Comes out super piping hot as everything was freshly fried and prepared. -Not a super thick layer of corn dog batter, so it it was mostly hot dog being eaten. Not bad since I prefer this over a soggy corn dog any day. 2) Large Fries: -Huge amount of fries. Lined an entire 1/3 of the to go box that I ordered. Definitely very shareable. -Initially crispy and fairly decent. Reminds me of canola oil fried fries if that makes any sense. But quickly became soggy and also super greasy. 3) 1/4 Lbs Tops Burger: -Comes with dressing, lettuce, tomato, and onion. -Despite having the name of the restaurant on the menu item name, this was just a standard burger you can get from any burger place. If anything, it's comparable to a burger that you can get at the campus cafeteria. Not bad, but not that memorable either. 4) Pastrami Sandwich on Rye Bread: -Huge, comes cut in half, packed to the brim with pastrami. There's also pickles and mustard in it. Impressive too look at and super filling and shareable if you give the second half to another person. -Insanely greasy though, super soggy and made the bread soggy and the wrapping soggy, and seeped into the box. -I know that the inherent nature of pastrami is to be salty, but this was overly salty and made even more so with the sourness of the pickles and mustard. Disappointing, since this was the item that I was looking forward to the most. Since I know for a fact that there's other options in Pasadena, this was just okay. Doesn't stand out from the other smaller independent fast food and burger joints spread throughout the 626.

Went through the drive through, the guy at the window was nice and food didn't take very long to make, they gave us some house salsa that had a nice amount of heat to it that we enjoyed. The burrito was filling and not overly heavy. Solid breakfast choice for the price.

Not sure the difference between this location and The Orginial Tops but I was very delighted with this location. They did not disappoint! The drive thru line was out into the street so that was already a good sign. We decided to dine in and the food came out fast but fresh! We started with the chili cheese fries, and they were so flavorful and absolutely delicious. The portion was huge! Definitely big enough to share. We also tried the pastrami cheeseburger, which was juicy, packed with flavor, and really satisfying. The bacon cheeseburger was just as good, cooked perfectly and full of flavor. We also ordered the pastrami sandwich. At $16 for just the sandwich, it's a bit on the pricey side, but the quality made it worth it. Overall, everything we had was really good, and the portions and taste made for a great experience. We'll definitely be back!

Tops / Burger is located at 1792 East Walnut Street Pasadena, California 91106. It is a busy corner intersecting with Allen Avenue. It is located just off the 210 freeway. It is a Pasadena treasure. It has a great history and great food! It is very consistent with good service, diverse menu, and freshly prepared food. It doesn't matter whether you're there when it opens at 7:00 a.m. or late at 11:00 during the week or 12:00 midnight on the weekends. The drive-thru is an added Plus. The interior is kept clean and cozy with booths and tables available most of the time. There are times when it does get very busy. The staff is constantly keeping up with cooking food and keeping customers happy! I had some questions about popular items to order. I decided on an Original Top's Burger Special with Pastrami, a Chicken Club Sandwich, and of course, their Famous Chili Cheese Fries! The Chicken Club was special for this week. They have weekly specials periodically. A nice change of pace to an always tasty menu. Everything was packed carefully. It was easy to carry walking a short distance home. As I opened each item, the aroma of freshly cooked, flavorful food permeated my kitchen. It made tasting each item even more satisfying. The chicken club was done perfectly with each item having its own flavor. The chicken was tender and moist. Bacon, lettuce, and tomato on that lightly toasted bread was the perfect combination. The Original Top's Burger with Pastrami had the right combination of condiments to make it bright, tasty, and a memorable burger. I got all the condiments they suggested and it was a perfect combination. The chili cheese fries were as the perfect loaded with cheese and chili. The fries were long and freshly cut. You have to order these whether you come here for breakfast lunch or dinner. With a menu that has something for everyone from morning until evening, Top's is worth a trip from anywhere. It is a go-to place for those just visiting Pasadena. Breakfast items are next on my list. I look forward to trying that breakfast burrito with fresh eggs.

I was sitting in traffic when I suddenly realized that I was hungry. I exited the freeway and decided on Tops Burgers. A hamburger restaurant I last visited over five years ago. I parked and went into the restaurant. After going back and forth on what I wanted to eat, I went with French toast. I waited approximately six minutes for my food to arrive, and I must admit, the French toast was delicious! Soft, tasty, and well prepared. The restaurant was spotless and busy, as it is a popular place for a delicious meal. The male employee who assisted me was friendly and polite. Parking is available in their private lot to the rear of the location.

Stopped for a Pastrami sandwich in Pasadena while it's raining hard. The place has a drive thru and dine in. It was self service . Ordered Pastrami sandwich was good. The pickled veggies were excellent. The fried zucchini was crunchy . Green Salad was fresh. Overall , it was very nice.

We were in Altadena showing my lady where i used to live and decided to take her to this spot i have not been to for sometime. I ordered my usual grilled chicken salad for both us with side of onion rings with ice tea and orange bang. Well still delicious and the home made ranch still bomb. Everything under $40 and let him tell you huge salads with black olives, tomatoes, hard boiled eggs was real good. The onion rings not greasy with the ranch wow. Nice and clean inside and bathroom is available for men and women. Definitely stop by always support your local businesses. Thank you Tops still great food.

Junior Cheese Burger is very good, fresh toppings and delicious burger sauce. If you are only 2 people dining, the large order of cheesy fries is waaaaay too big... maybe go for the medium. Staff is lovely, treated us great!

Not sure how many spots in these parts have Cuban sandwiches, but I know Emmi's down in Sierra Madre has one and it's pretty damn good. Parking is on the street as well as in the back, but that lot is shared with other businesses and you'll have an easier time just parking in the street. Nice open dining area that sits about 20 or so, plus seats outside. Just a nice spot for casual dining. During prime hours, you should make reservations. Wait staff is friendly and attentive. And the food comes out relatively quickly. Ordered the Cuban sandwich that came with your choice of fries or salad. Come on now, fries all the time! The sandwich is really large and they are super generous with their pork. The roasted pork was delicious with a hint of smoke (they have a smoker in the back I think). My only complaint is they threw in a couple of strips of pork belly. That kind of gave you an uneven bite in the sandwich, not to mention that the belly strips were rather tough and chewy. The menu is varied enough to make me want to try this spot again, so a pretty good time was had by all.

However, I came tonight with my sister, and it started off wrong. The valet guy was very unprofessional and disrespectful towards my sister. He let a person in front of her valet park, and then when she came after that person/car, he had told her that the valet was full. However, it was two people/cars behind her that he told them they can park and he will be right with them. He had said that it's because they are related to the owners, but I felt that was quite unreasonable to say mainly when you have people dining out to have a good experience, and spend their money. This put a bad taste in my mouth, but we still decided to stay because we love the food and we haven't been for a while. Luckily, out of all the employees the hostess was the best. Very nice and sat us down rapidly. Unfortunately, for our server, Carolyn I'll give a 2 1/2 star for her. I felt that she kept moving fast and wasn't really passionate about her job. We wanted light sauce and no cheese on one of our entrees and she basically said that it's best to order something else since the chef couldn't do it. She took the plate back, and my sister decide to get devil eggs. They were delicious though, I Just felt she wasn't accommodating at all. Even when we ordered the lava cake and on the menu it didn't mention that it had caramel on it, we don't eat caramel at all and it did not mention on menu, and she simply said all the ingredients are not on the menu all the time. So what made this annoying is that we asked her about and what was on the lava cake and she said it was just a plain lava cake. Hmmm just felt that she was very dry and nonchalant and did not care. Made me feel uncomfortable to tell her about the food. Shouldn't feel that way as a patron. I ordered the lemon herb chicken w/ sautéed spinach and roasted potatoes. It was great and tasted delicious!! Happy of my choice! For my drink I had Prosecco and a lemon drop, that was very tasty. Will try that again the bartender was on point. The ambiance was perfect they have a nice seating outside with tv, and nice indoor seating. The bar has a tv and a good hang out spot. They have brunch on the weekends that looks delicious so I would want to try again, but after today I'm not sure because of the service from valet and our server. I really love Foothill!! We chose Holy Saints to announce our baby's gender with our parents and we had an amazing time during our intimate dinner here. The restaurant's ambiance was the perfect combination of homey and inviting. It is a smaller place and the number of tables are limited so I highly suggest making a reservation when dining here. During our dinner, it was a bit difficult to have a full blown conversation as the place was packed with guests when we came plus the loud background music that was playing the whole night. Service and food were nothing but amazing! Their menu is very limited. Maybe not everyone will appreciate that, but I think it is more intentional on what is being served to the table. Our highlight of the night was the Grandpa's Pan Roasted Duck Magret Au Poivre for sure. It was so tender on the inside and crispy on the outer edges! We never had a meal like that elsewhere and we will for sure be back just because of it.

Dishes tried: - Sourdough bread and bbq butter, solid for a bread dish, butter is definitely unique, reminded me of Lay's BBQ chips in a good way - Grandma's Risotto w/ prosciutto, okay for me? Prosciutto was a supplement here and needs it imo for that oomph, otherwise a fine risotto dish but would pass unless it speaks to you - Barnyard Bolognese - a bit underwhelming to start, just too one-note for me, but it eventually grew on me and would get it again if I wanted a rich pasta - Duck Magret Au Poivre - easily my favorite dish here and what I would come back for and recommend for people, tender duck with the right amount of fat and a great sauce. Fries are a bit thicker than I would like, but still enjoyed it. - Seasonal apple pie - more of a danish if I had to describe it to someone, but nice texture and more importantly, not too sweet!

I've heard some good things about this place and from other fellow yelpers friends, it must be…read moreworth it. Had a dinner reservation with some girlfriends celebrating two of their birthdays. The restaurant itself isn't too big but it does a pack a nice punch. Cute patio out front that takes some of the sidewalks and streets. Plenty of heat lamps which helped with the chilly nights. We got seated at one of the tables on the patios which was nice. Didn't really utilize inside area except for the restroom which it's quite cute in there. The rooms were pretty well decorated and executed. Nice bar area too. Like mentioned, we got seated on the patio and the heat lamps were great. Down to the menus, it's quite limited on dishes. Seemed like there were more shared plates versus the entrees. Drinks, it was fairly decent with their cocktails and wine. Service at the beginning was great. The staff were amazing and very friendly. We didn't order right away as we were still waiting for the last one to show. But did start off with some drinks. It didn't take that long for the first round which was nice. Food wise, the shared plate was a mixture of everything. Some of the olives, which is exactly what it is. The Belgian fries, nice thick cut fries with shredded pecorino cheese and a nice aioli sauce. We ended up getting a second order of it. The albacore tuna crudo was a hit which was really tasty. Chili ginger relish, mint and shallot, can't go wrong with that. Lastly the meatballs, tasty and very great for sharing. Entrees, the pan seared sea bass which I loved. Portion is pretty tiny which also seemed like they were a shared plate. Almost tapas styled. Nice chimichurri sauce and a side salad. The chicken Milanese also with a side salad of arugula. Simple dish but quite tasty. One of the salads that was somewhat hyped up by the waitress but it was just a salad. Decent but nothing major to rave about...lol... also the confit oyster mushrooms was major hit. Something that simple but quite tasty. And lastly the pan con tomate, rustic sourdough with tomatoes and burrata. Tasty as well. Overall the meal was good. From there, the second round of drinks did take a long time to arrive and with then plates that we shared, trying to get someone to clear the plates was another thing. Took a long for someone to clear the table before more items came. Even when the entrees came, all the empty starter plates were still there. And if someone did clear the plates, some was still left on the table. Finishing off the night, we did have the dessert which we tried all three. As it was two of our girlfriends birthday, they brought out a little bubbly for us to celebrate with the dessert. That was quite sweet and nice. Honestly opinion with the dessert, they were just ok. Nothing major to rave about. We tried all three on the menu and they were just ok. Overall, the food was great. Service was nice and the staffs were all very friendly. It did take a while for plates to get cleared from the table and second round did take a while, but it was manageable. It was a sweet gesture with the bubbly with the dessert which was greatly appreciated. The place is nice and great for catching up. Menu is limited and portions are quite small. You would have to get a good amount for sharing. Entrees, depending on what you order is small as well. But we enjoyed ourself.

Come here for the drinks, vibes and brunch…read more Their breakfast options are better than their dinner service. I can't eat here for dinner as a vegetarian, they have little to no options. Would it kill them to add a veggie burger? Service is consistently awful. I've been here half a dozen times and I've never had good service. Drinks and water are never refilled unless I ask. It takes forever to get our order and once we do our server disappears. Seriously so bad. But I keep coming back for their good food.

Each dish is small so our table ordered a quite of few plates and did more of a family style. So we could try all the dishes. The wines were also great, we got to the bottle of moscato and a wine flight! Our waiter was friendly and great! :) We brought a birthday cake and they were able to keep it in the fridge for us. We decided not to have it served there since they had an additional $25 fee for brought in desserts. Overall the ambiance of the restaurant was very pleasant and the Photo Booth was working and took only card and you get 2 photos for $5.55. Felt very nostalgic

They just do it. This is because their service and common sense about the needs of young children/older toddlers far surpasses Bess's. Even when they could seat us at a smaller table with chairs only. Many staff here are not in tune with the needs of families who dine because it's quintessentially more geared toward date-nighters or the occasional larger adult-only party and because the staff demographic doesn't scream "I have dined with kids!" Only recently have they started giving plastic utensils and cups to 3 year olds that would otherwise break lots of glass. Also it's clear others have had negative hostess experiences here... I stand by my original review and wish the owner would do more than just wishing patrons well if they got up and left (in fact he never offered any kind of comp and only backs up his hostess saying in the past we didn't sit at the "table" we reserved). Sadly, I don't see this place being around for a very long time despite the food being overall fine enough. You could certainly get more authentic and elevated Italian-Italian food in Duarte if you look around a bit..
