Unfortunately, my experience at UOVO was extremely disappointing - I'm not sure if it was an off day or something more but from the moment my party arrived it felt unwelcoming, despite the nice ambiance of lights and outdoor seating. They were decently crowded but we were told it was a 15-30 minute wait. They proceeded to call the wrong name, then text us that our table was going to the next party, until we went to check and they said it wasn't ready yet. After all this, we were still tired after coming to Pasadena for a day out on a Sunday and stayed to be seated. Our waitress was kind, but after taking our order, we proceeded to wait until almost closing for any service. As everyone who came before us got their orders, we waited and our waitress tried telling us it would be a couple minutes more, but that was surprising as you could see their open kitchen and the staff was preparing their meals to take home instead. She chose this place because of the positive reviews and aesthetic pictures. We were a party of 8 and luckily there was not long wait. Atmosphere was nice, dim lit, we at a dining table but the dinner felt private. Waitress greeted us and was nice and very knowledgeable of the dishes and ingredients, always a plus. As for the food, we tried several dishes. Most of them read very well and it was tough to choose. So we all tried to order different items and share... bad idea.. the portions were definitely not shareable. Best dishes were the carbonara even though it was a bit salty. Lasagna was average. For appetizer we got the yellowtail crudo, and that was beautifully presented, and delicious as well. Service was severely lacking. We were not given spoons and I had also asked for red peppers and they didn't arrive until I asked for them again. No one checked up on us until almost at the end of the meal and that's when I asked again for the red pepper flakes. For dessert, we got the tiramisu and it was just ok. They also don't serve coffee or tea. To top it off, when we got our receipts, we noticed we were automatically charged 20% gratuity for the lack of service which I found to be very unprofessional. The meat was fresh, tender, and generously seasoned with olive oil, cracked black pepper, lemon, and Parmigiano Reggiano. It was a simple dish that really allowed the quality of the beef to shine. That said, I would have appreciated some sort of accompaniment, such as toasted bread, to add texture and help balance the richness and raw flavor of the meat. I'm obsessed. Last time I was in LA, I met up with a friend here for dinner. We ordered off the tasting menu and selected "The Regional" which includes Battuta de carne, ragú, tortellini, amatriciana, and pan a cotta con saba. for $35 per person, it was a good amount of food! Not to mention it was fresh, aromatic and delicious. I've been to Italy and this place is the closest I've come to anything I had out there. Also, not to mention, the pasta is handmade in Bologna, Italy and shipped overnight in a temperature controlled cabin. They do this because Italian eggs are key to their pasta!! I think the crudo could've maybe used a bit more acidity to balance out the flavors, but that honestly might be my only critique. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente every time, and I loved the flat texture of the truffle pasta. Personally, I think the portion sizes were also perfect because I feel like I would've been overwhelmed with any more of each pasta. Went with my girl group of four and ordered the Cheese & Truffle Tasting Menu to share, recommended by our waiter. The location is beautiful, with plenty of seating readily available since we came just before the dinner rush, after attending an event nearby. We got to sit outside, and our waiter took great care of us, even moved the umbrella for us since the sun was just setting. The tasting menu came with 5 dishes (1 appetizer being a beautiful Yellowtail Crudo, and 3 rich pastas which included Tagliatelle in Truffle Sauce, Pomodoro, Cacio e Pepe, and a dessert, Tiramisu al cucchiaio). For $38 per person, I honestly thought the portion size would be more generous, but I understood the tasting menu was probably designed to let us enjoy multiple dishes without feeling stuffed, and high-quality pasta is very rich and well-seasoned, so serving a heaping portion wouldn't make sense. But, the pasta was so good, I wanted another bite! All of the pasta dishes in their tasting menu were evenly dressed in their delicious sauces that coat the pasta just right. Handmade fresh pasta just can't be beat. We also ordered a Ravioli di Carne and Funghi (mushrooms) to share on the side. Both dishes were great, again, just wished we had more of it. 2.5/ Food was underwhelming when taking into consideration price and atmosphere. It was decent for pasta, but nothing extraordinary. Had clam pasta, carbonara, truffle pasta, and ravioli. Taste for pasta were either very mild or salty. Menu is essentially pasta with a sauce. Sides are an additional charge. Mushrooms and Broccolini were the best things eaten tonight. read more

this has been a place i've been wanting to check out! it definitely meet my expectations :) i loved this place & the experience we were seated at the bar & it felt super cozy & intimate! we were able to interact w/ the chefs & watch our meals be made. i really enjoyed the carbonara pasta, although it was a bit on the saltier side! we also got a side of mushrooms & man they also tasted super great. can't wait to come back read more
