We planned our day with a late lunch at Oh La La after a morning at Pasadena Flea. The rain turned out to be more than expected so the vendors at the flea market were significantly less. We were done about an hour before our reservation time. We hoped to be accommodated earlier but saw the long line and crowd waiting as we drove by. We decided to run a couple small errands instead. We arrived about 10 minutes before our reservation. It was still busy, but there were not as many people waiting. The hostess was so warm and welcoming. She let us know that the customers at our designated table were almost done and that they will have it ready in just a few minutes. Unfortunately, those customers decided to linger much longer. Thirty minutes later, they were still hanging around. We fully understood that this was not by any fault of the restaurant. We continued to wait patiently. The hostess was very apologetic and was trying to work out a solution which led to the Floor Manager (Karla) getting involved. We were eventually seated at another table, with the option to move should the other table become available. Karla then took the time to apologize for the wait and unfortunate first impression. As we got started with drinks and a pastry for the daughter, the other table opened. The hostess immediately came to move us. It all went smoothly from there. Table service was casual and attentive. We started with the Chocolate Almond Croissant and the Baguette & Bordier Butter. The daughter tried the Iced Matcha Latte. For our entrées -- Shakshuka, Patty Melt and Brioche Eggs Benedict (with salmon). I was eager to try the Potato Gravlax, but it was sold out. :( Everything was so, so delicious! Fresh and flavorful. Lovely presentations. Very good portions. As we were finishing, Karla came to our table again to express her gratitude for our patience and understanding. She gave me her business card with an offer to contact her directly should we need another reservation. On our way out, I stopped to compliment the sweet young hostess for a job well done. I can't think about this place without that Pasadena legend Teena Marie (RIP) song in my head, but with reason: I felt my world turn topsy turvy, and I just can't fight the spin (lol) This place is known for its pastries and baked goods, and unfortunately they had sold out of pastries before we had a chance to buy any, but no matter. My bestie and I had a pretty solid meal. My friend ordered the croque monsieur and I ordered the wild mushroom bowl. While we missed out on the pastries, we each got to try their bread in our respective meals which were well buttered and toasted and had a nice crunchy outside and a soft chewy inside. My friend basically inhaled her croque monsieur, and I kept marveling at each element of my meal: cashew cheese with a salsa macha, a marinated wild mushroom, and an avocado for texture to put on my delicious toast. Oh Lala! What a delicious little find! I ordered the Roasted Beet Tartine, and not only was the presentation beautiful, but you can tell someone really put thought into putting this dish together. I love beets, and they pair so well with goat cheese. What made this even more unique was that it came as a tartine/toast, which was a little different from what I usually order. Every bite seemed to get better and better! It was slightly sweet and refreshing at the same time. The fresh mint garnish was such a nice touch--it really helped reset the palate between bites. And then there were the little sprinkles of chili powder! I didn't notice them at first, but that subtle kick was such a fun surprise and added another layer of flavor. 10/10 for me! Trying this French spot for brunch in Pasadena for the first time, and everything was SO good! We tried the breakfast croissant, Croque Monsieur, home fries, and the absolute star of the day: their crème brûlée French toast! And of course, the cappuccinos were the perfect addition. I stopped by Oh La La in Pasadena for coffee and pastries, and I have to say I was genuinely impressed with their coffee program. We didn't have any of the brunch dishes this visit--we specifically came for the coffee and pastries--but after this experience, we'll definitely be coming back to try the food next time. The cortado was made with Boxx Coffee Roasters beans, and after chatting with the barista, I learned they also have a dedicated water filtration system specifically for their coffee. That level of attention to detail isn't something you expect from every brunch café, and it definitely showed in the final cup. The cortado was well executed. The milk was smoothly integrated with the espresso, creating a balanced body that held together throughout the drink instead of separating after a few sips. It was served in the proper glass with clean presentation and solid latte art. The temperature was slightly hotter than my personal preference, which is understandable in a brunch setting, but overall it was a great cortado and far better than what many brunch cafés serve. The pain au chocolat was outstanding as well and a perfect pairing with the cortado. The service made the visit even better. Our server, Michael (aka Bev), was welcoming, attentive, and provided excellent service from start to finish. I also had the chance to compliment the barista on the cortado. Although I didn't get her name, she was very kind, took a few minutes to explain their coffee program, and shared that they use Boxx Coffee beans along with a dedicated water system to ensure the cleanest possible cup. It's always nice to meet people who genuinely care about what they're serving. Overall, Oh La La exceeded my expectations. This was my first time coming to this restaurant. I haven't been to Pasadena in forever! So much has changed and I saw this restaurant on my instagram feed. So we decided to give it a try. I'm really picky with it comes to scones. But these scones were perfect! Soft on the inside, nice outer crust. Both the maple and blueberry scones are full of flavor. I think the maple is my favorite. The lovely girl that was helping us gave us a chocolate chip cookies for free! Which was so sweet of her. We told her we came a long way to try this restaurant out. Super trendy vibe .... Walked in for a quick coffee break , seemed crowded and noisy . Ordered a latte to go , with one barista working the coffee bar with a lot of patrons didn't seem a little ideal during lunch time . Definitely ohhhhh la la!! Loved the plants outside before entering. My friend & I were greeted and sat right away for Saturday for breakfast at 11 am. I couldn't stop staring at the beautiful restaurant!! The restaurant had hanging flowers (artificial) and the beautiful artwork on a white brick wall. It felt like we were on a coastal vacation. Brandon was our server and he was so nice and cheerful! I ordered an iced brown sugar cinnamon latte with almond milk with French toast. The drink was delicious and the French toast with berry sauce was the best I have ever had. The bread was fresh and moist. I ate it all baby!!! I Oh La La is such a cute spot where you can either order up by the register or you can sit down and order from your table, which I find very convenient, especially for people who are more introverted. Both the interior and exterior are quite picturesque. The few people I spoke to today were really helpful and kind. Service was top tier in my opinion. The brown sugar cinnamon latte was so well balanced and not too sweet, which I prefer anyway. It also came out super fast. I got there kinda late, so they didn't have a lot of pastries left. Very disappointing experience with how we were treated. We went here for lunch last weekend and waited about an hour and a half for a table. When the host at the front, who was managing the waitlist, told us our table was getting cleaned, she pointed to a specific table that was being cleaned by the busboys. Shortly afterward, I saw a customer approached the staff, and they seated him at the same table we had just been told was ours. I immediately asked the manager what was going on. The manager told me that the host had "said it wrong" and that the other customer had a reservation. I understand that reservations need to be honored, but then why were we told that this particular table was ours after we had already waited 90 minutes? We had given our name, followed the waitlist process, and patiently waited. If there was a reservation for that table, the staff should have known and communicated that clearly. The next available table could have been given to the reservation party. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was the manager's attitude toward us compared with his attitude toward the other party. We had done nothing wrong. We were understandably unhappy because someone else was seated at the table we had just been promised. Since the confusion was caused by the restaurant, we would have appreciated at least a meaningful "I'm sorry." Instead, the manager seemed annoyed when speaking with us (think about a cold tone voice and side eyeing). At the same time, he was smiling and friendly toward the other party. The difference in attitude was very noticeable and left us feeling like we were not being treated fairly or equally. This was especially uncomfortable with the difference in our ethnicity and the other party. I cannot say for certain that race was the reason for what happened, but the combination of being passed over for a table we were told was ours, and then seeing the manager treat the other party so differently made it very difficult not to question. Tan, brown toast, khaki potatoes -- the kind of color story that screams "sepia filter" more than "French café." That said, my breakfast burrito was the plot twist I didn't see coming. Surprisingly delicious -- wonderfully eggy (in a good, brunchy way), not bogged down by filler potatoes, and brightened by sautéed peppers, onions, and a punchy salsa verde that tied it all together. My wife's egg-and-cheese croissant was fine, though not exactly whispering ooh la la either. We spent $33 before tax and tip for those two items, which feels steep for what you get. And as a bonus round of irritation, their QR payment system "suggests" tips after tax -- a subtle but mildly obnoxious move. Overall, Oh La La has potential if they could breathe a little life (and color) into their presentation and service. For now, it's less Paris café magic and more boring brunch. read more

Pumpkin Pie Almond Croissant- 7/10 For a tasty croissant, this isn't overly sweet which is perfect. The almond and pumpkin seeds add a bit of texture but it's rather cooked down instead of warm. The pumpkin pie paste is good and has a good portion of breading and filling. We were seated quickly and our waitress was nice. Lots of tables and a bright and open airy space with cute decor. Made a pit stop at Oh La La for lunch with a friend. For starters, despite being a Tuesday afternoon, parking was fairly difficult to find unless you're willing to walk several blocks. At least it was free, though! I was surprised that they had just opened their indoor dining area, but I knew I just had to try their Brioche Eggs Benedict. This was indeed a treat that I rarely consider. I can't say that it was the best I ever had, but every part of the eggs benedict was tasty and perfectly seasoned. (Yes, that means not oversalted, too!) My friend had their Potato Gravalax. The potatoes were the perfect roast, and the salmon was tasty as well. Both were the perfect light brunch items. We also had their iced lattes, which had a remarkable flavor. The beans were subtly sweet and a medium boldness, just enough to be noticeable but not dark enough to be bitter or strong. The staff were present, as was the service, and this was indeed a nice brunch spot. From the entrance to the tables, everything was well decorated to provide a nice "under the sunlit trees in a cabin" kind of ambiance.
