Margherita pizza- per my 9yo daughter, "delicious and cheesy, the only downside is that it was a bit greasy for my taste.' Delicious food and dessert! Cacio de pepe pasta was robust as pasta should be. Filet mignon was cooked just right and the sauce that complimented it well. The baked potato was amazing and sophisticated, Im a big fan of it even if others can't handle that much flavor. We finished with the Souffle and Velvet Ganache that finished dinner with a smile. Okay so I've always walked by this place and wonder what it would be like to eat here. I decided to go celebrate for my birthday one day and we did not have a really great experience. First, the ambiance - they're playing spanish music. The seats are super worn out and torn. The service - Sorry, I try never to call our waiters by name but Sandra was just horrible. She was cold to us from the start. When we asked for something she would answer "sure....." as if we were bothering her. She basically ignored us the whole time we were there. We had to flag her down, and even then we had to ask another waiter for service. The only time she came immediately was to pick up the check. As we were leaving, she didn't even acknowledge us as we walked out. While the host and other waiters thanked us for coming. I know I sound so entitled but this experience just left such a bad taste in my mouth. The food was also not that great.. We all got pasta. Bolognese (2/5) - The pasta was not cooked all the way. It kind of tasted like it was just microwaved. The pasta was all stuck together. I really had to pry it apart. My plate was black and you can kind of see fingerprints and smudges all over it. Kind of dry but the meat was good. Gnocchi (4/5) - Nothing really special, just tasted like Gnocchi! But I enjoyed it. Ravioli Costine (4/5) - This one was also kind of good, it had a slight weird after taste but was still pretty good. Bucatini Pomodor Pomodoro (2/5) - This was just okay, Super dry. In old town Pasadena with plenty of options around this place is a standout! The food was delicious, the focaccia is a must and the pasta was super fresh with the perfect bite. Can't wait to come back and try some of the other pasta options and a pizza from their traditional fired oven. Jose was a wonderful server and super attentive and kind. After the meal the owner was around stopping by to check on service table to table. From the food to the service to the whole energy of the restaurant they made it a beautiful meal. Came here before a concert at the Rose Bowl. Was 15 minutes late but they sat us without any issue. Server came over to us quickly. We had a few different things including a chopped salad, chicken piccata and a fettuccine pasta with a meatball on the side. All were very delicious especially the chicken piccata. Everything on their menu looked very good. Some guy next to me guy a smoked old fashioned which smelled incredible. My only complaint would be the bathrooms that you have to walk up a ramp in a hot corner of a building to go get. The men's restroom ran out of soap. I had told one of the hostess and she said she'd get someone on it right away. I went back almost 15 minutes later and still no soap. I love Mi piace!!! Been coming here since I was a young girl. Every time I come, the food is always fresh and hot, and they have really good authentic Italian food. They even have brunch and a massive menu you can choose from from pastas, salmon, and chicken. Today I ordered the free range organic chicken, and it was definitely tender and very moist. I will give it a 5/5. For my drinks, I ordered a Prosecco and they give you a decent size but you may have to order two lol. The Customer Service is exceptional they have good server name Rhonda who was amazing!!! and the owner is always very amicable and generous. This is my favorite Italian restaurant in Pasadena. I highly recommend you come here if you want some good Italian food and a good ambience. Very good for date night and celebrations. They have very good desserts here as well. Mi Piace is one of my favorite restaurants. I had not been here for lunch and thought it would be a nice treat to take a new teacher before school started. The restaurant is still as beautiful as ever. The hostess is friendly and the service was impeccable. The food, however; was not impressive. I ordered the poached lobster sandwich and it had no flavor. The potato chips were good; I love the salt and vinegar taste and think it really complimented the sandwich. The lobster was perfectly cooked and although small, it makes for a perfect lunch size meal. My friend ordered the chicken on focaccia and she said it was good although it looked a little dry to me. My husband and I love trying restaurants. We're easygoing diners who appreciate good food and a great experience, whether it's a casual neighborhood spot or something more upscale. This was our first visit to Mi Piaci. The restaurant made a lovely first impression and was packed, clearly a popular spot. Unfortunately, our meal didn't quite live up to the atmosphere. My chicken piccata was cooked perfectly--tender and delicious--but buried under artichokes. I love artichokes, though a lighter hand would have let the chicken shine. The mashed potatoes arrived in an adorable little copper pot, but despite the beautiful presentation, they were so gummy that I couldn't enjoy them. My husband's béchamel lasagna also looked appealing, but the texture was gummy and the flavors fell flat. It tasted as though it had been prepared much earlier in the day. We initially ordered bruschetta, then switched to focaccia, expecting something fluffy and fresh. Instead, we received small triangles with a hard crust that were nothing memorable. The wine was a highlight. They have a good wine list, and we enjoyed our Super Tuscan enough to order a second glass. Overall, lovely atmosphere and presentation, perfectly cooked chicken, and enjoyable wine--but several disappointing dishes. Mi Piace, we look on yelp and find where we are going to have our monthly staff luncheon and we picked here. We started off the classic pizza and the calamari were very fresh. I really enjoyed the pizza I will in New York recently and had a lot of good pizza. I had the short rib ravioli it was very good. The ravioli is made fresh. Another co- worker had the same thing. The food presentation was very good. A co worker ordered Insalada de Tios I just call it the salad with onion rings it was good as well. My other co worker ordered the pescatore if you like food like this go to Mi Piace and order it I don't eat it but watching her eat and almost made me change my mind. We tried serveral deserts. We shared three deserts Creme Brulee, Creme Brulee chesecake and Lemon Meringue Tart. Lemon Meringue Tart was good give is 7-10. Creme Brulee Cheesecake give 9-10 because unique not a lot of people serve it. Creme Brulee give it 7-10. Rhonda, our waitress, was excellent and kind. I always thought Mi Piace looked pretty charming from the outside as their patio for decades has been filled of people dining and wining. Finally my wife and I came in for our babymoon dinner. All in all, I thought it was just OK. It's been hot all week so we sat inside. The inside felt very cramped and stuffy considering all the tables are so close to each other. We're here for a romantic date night out and could overhear the neighboring tables, had to move our table just to get up, and kids running around too. First we got the Focaccia bread. My wife enjoyed it but I found it slightly on the stale/crunchy side. We received a dish of balsamic vinegar but I wish we were given olive oil as well. We split the caesar salad that was pretty good, but the croutons were soggy and the dressing was a little watered down. The Ravioli Di Costine was very good. Not too heavy, full of flavor. Service from the manager that hosted us to the server was all very friendly. My biggest gripe is they charged me $40 for a double Makers Mark on ice. Had I known they charge $20 for a shot of middle-shelf whiskey, I would have passed. So to conclude, is Mi Piace good? Yeah it is. Is it great? No it is not. read more

I understand that you're trying to create a New York Italian restaurant vibe, but having lived in NYC, I can tell you that the music was never blasting at full volume or dominated by loud, random house music. The whole point of a restaurant like this should be to enjoy great food, drinks, conversation, and a relaxing atmosphere. I'd really love to see the music turned down and replaced with softer background music, perhaps instrumental jazz. You already have a great team and a lovely concept. We have been going to Mi Piace for years, and we have always been very happy with the food and service. My wife and I went in Saturday night, and it seems that they changed their policy. The waitress wouldn't allow us to order wine while we looked over the menu. She said we had to order everything at the same time!! We traveled over an hour to eat there, and just wanted a glass of wine while we looked over the menu to decide on what to eat. The chicken Alfredo was one of the worst I've ever had. Honestly, even CPK makes a better chicken Alfredo. The pappardelle was so overcooked that it practically turned into mush. To make matters worse, my girlfriend's water glass had so much grime and buildup around the rim that I was genuinely shocked. My girlfriend had told me this restaurant was supposed to be good, so we came in with decent expectations. Unfortunately, the food quality and cleanliness were both disappointing. On top of everything, our waitress seemed to forget about us, which was an immediate red flag. I wanted to like Mi Piace, but overall it was a disappointing experience. Starting with the negatives: the wine glasses and napkins were dirty, the menus were falling apart, and the tables didn't match or sit level, which made the restaurant feel less polished than expected. The food also felt overpriced for the quality. The steak was overcooked and plated poorly, and the presentation overall was underwhelming. The Margherita pizza was disappointing -- the mozzarella both looked and tasted odd. The Caesar salad lettuce was clearly not fresh. I'm honestly surprised when people call this the best Italian restaurant in Pasadena, especially when there are so many places serving fresh pasta and higher-quality dishes. That said, the staff was friendly. The bartender and our waiter Miguel were both very nice and attentive, even though the cork broke while opening my wine bottle. The Brussels sprouts were excellent, and the filet mignon beef tartare was one of the better dishes we tried. Overall, I'd give Mi Piace 3/5 stars. First time back to Mi Piace in a long time, and I'm very glad to have rediscovered this top notch gem in Old Town. The space is as inviting as ever, bright and cheery, and sparkling clean. The white table cloths up the ante a bit at a time when so many places opt for bare tables and industrial funk. Our server was friendly and made sure to check on us repeatedly, offering refills and making sure we had everything we needed. Soft drinks arrived quickly, and our food arrived without any delay at all. I ordered the Italian Wedge Salad, which is a creatively-presented and generous offering that makes for a light-yet-filling lunch. The crisp, cool iceberg comes topped with a fresh and tasty melange of salami, olives, peppers, onions, tomatoes and croutons, enveloped with a rich and savory Gorgonzola Ranch Dressing. This is a terrific and flavorful salad that really hits the spot, and the dressing in particular is crave-inducing. My friend ordered the Sesame Chicken, served with a lemon scallion sauce, pasta and sautéed fresh veggies. While I didn't taste it, it looked fantastic, and my buddy said it was quite good. For at least 25 years, Mi Piace has been a reliably excellent Italian restaurant in Pasadena. I'm sure the menu has evolved, and changes have happened, but after an absence of a few years it's nice to see that the things that really matter have remained much the same -- which is to say, Great! read more

Last of the remaining popular Italian restaurants along Colorado in Old Town Pasadena, Mi Piace is a modern, vibrant place for great Italian and Italian American flavors. From the late 80s this has been a favorite place for many patrons, recalling long wait lines even before the bumping music and loud bar crowd. Decor-wise, there have been many changes and updates. Their menu has stayed mainly the same with many changes, including a specials menu that seems to get longer as the years pass. I will have to make note of some of the dishes that used to be bold, spicy, and pungent have been dialed back. Fortunately, ingredients continue to be fresh and vibrant. Seafood items are on point, and pastas are delectable, fine-dining worthy. The bar and wine list are excellent here. Not completely focused on Italian regions, French wines are listed and offer a great option to pair. The staff is attentive and very friendly. The front of the house has an accommodating attitude, and the open kitchen aura gives an interactive vibe to the dining room. Unfortunately, the only caveat that I just can't get past is the loud club music screeching through my dining experience while my party and I were struggling to see our menu, which continued to our plates. Eh...no, non mi piace, after all. We came here on a Friday night for our anniversary, just for desserts, and mostly on the strength of other people's rave reviews of the tiramisu. Unfortunately, the tiramisu could use more tira and more su. Super light coffee flavor and completely flavorless mascarpone cream on top. The only real flavor here was the cocoa powder on top - bitter. We also got the creme brulee cheesecake which was an oddly gummy, thick texture. The creme brulee on top was nice, but not very crisp either. We sat in the lounge area which was strangely lit. Over by the window, it was suuupper bright track lighting, even at 10pm. This made that whole half of the small lounge area quite bright as well. More like a showroom floor than a chill lounge. I'm sure it's much nicer if you are seated at the bar - clearly the preferred spot, since all those seats were taken. Service was ...it existed. It was pleasant enough, if confused and confusing. The best part was the 90/00s dance music they were playing (not very well mixed by the dj tho ). And the way too expensive Smoke & Mirrors cocktail. All in all, this place is overpriced and the atmosphere is just not very welcoming, in either half of the restaurant. And God help you if you need to use the men's room, which is an entirely different building that you have to leave the restaurant to get to, has a lock code, and is not in any way maintained or cleaned. read more

My family came here for dinner over the weekend to celebrate my mother in law's birthday and it turned out to be a lovely evening. We arrived a bit earlier than our reservation time but were able to wait at the bar and order truffle fries as a snack which was a nice starter. When we were seated for dinner our waitress was very sweet and explained each off menu special and gave us a couple recommendations. The food was excellent. We started with the bruschetta and Caesar salad, both fresh and flavors as expected. My husband also got the espresso martini which he thoroughly enjoyed. All the main courses came out together. We got the ribeye special cooked medium rare and it was perfectly cooked as requested and big enough to share. The chicken parmesan was hearty, the piccata de pollo was bright with the light lemony sauce, and the spaghetti carbonara was rich and creamy. The broccoli was very savory but a bit too spicy for my taste. During our meal, the owner stopped by to warmly greet us which was a nice personal gesture. We ended with sharing a few desserts. Mi Piace "I like it" is a an established Italian restaurant on Colorado in Old Pasadena offering a wide variety of Italian dishes - some strong, some lacking - at an elevated price. My extended family (8 total) and I came for a celebration on a Saturday around 11:30. The restaurant was fairly empty at first but by the time we left at 1:30 it was mostly full. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and waitress who and shown to our table. The restaurant is classic but not overstated, with desserts on display. We started with two orders of the focaccia with olive oil and balsamic ($8). While I contend bread should be gratis at a place of this caliber, it was tasty, very well seasoned and salted, with butter, cheese, and spices baked in to the top. Following was the Bruschetta ($20) which was large with six pieces (see photo). The tomatoes, avocado, and oil were fresh but the bread was somewhat lacking and could have benefited from a longer toast. The Calamari Fritti ($20) was also good although a little more fried than I would have liked. The dipping sauce added a fair bit of acidity and a little kick though to balance things out. Following we ordered a number of items the table shared. The Mamma Mia pizza ($29) was in my opinion the strongest entry of the day with a thin crust without flop, pepperoni, prosciutto, artichokes, and just enough spice. The Classica pizza ($23) was also quite good with a variety of tangy cheeses on top. Both were quite large and I will be enjoying them the rest of the weekend. The lunch only Pollo Panino with fries ($19) was quite underwhelming with a mixture of ingredients that did not go well together and was set with insufficient spread separating them from the dry bread. The Fettuccini Alfredo ($32) with shrimp (+$8) was also quite disappointing, lacking in much flavor for the sauce. The shrimp was cooked well, however. The Lasagna Bolognese ($35) was fairly good, with thin noodles between beef and cheese and was probably the lightest and most intricate lasagna I've had in some time. The Spaghetti Polp Polpette ($36) was also great with two large, delectable meatballs bursting with flavor. Overall, the Mamma Mia Pizza, Lasagna Bolonese, and Spaghetti Polp Polpette were the strongest entires and worth getting. The others were not impressive. Our server was friendly and accommodating, caring for us even when we brought in our own cake, charging only a modest serving fee ($1/guest). Value, as stated above, I feel is somewhat overpriced, with virtually all entries about $5-10 more expensive than expected for a similar restaurant if the same quality. Overall, if you're a more value-oriented customer or order one of the weaker entries above, I suspect "no, grazie" is an appropriate reaction to this well established restaurant. If you are looking for classic Italian in Old Pasadena and have a discerning eye for the menu and reviews, however, "Mi Piace" is something you'll certainly be saying. Mi Piace is an authentic Italian restaurant in Old Town Pasadena. There's a nearby parking structure (most costly) or street parking (cheaper) that's available. I came here for Valentine's Day dinner and it was packed! You must make a reservation in advance to secure a spot. The table I was seated at was located by the bar, so I had a wonderful view. For food, I tried a few dishes. The Insalanta Mi Piace salad was solid - loved the heirloom carrots and tomatoes. The pastas were also stand-ours; the lumache salmone vodka pasta is great if you love smoked salmon, and the carbonara was the best they I've ever had. I also tried the cheese pizza - portion was generous and crust was perfect. Lastly, for dessert, I had the new hot cheese cake which was a solid recommendation from the staff. Service was fantastic. Even though the were busy, the staff was attentive and made sure we had a good time. It was top notch restaurant hospitality. Lastly, price wasn't too bad. For the large portion sizes, great taste, and high quality service, I thought the experience was rather affordable for what it's worth.
