    Yellowtail tuna tartare
    Tatyana E.

I thought the food was great. I chose the yellowfin tuna tartare as my main and the burrata salad as my app. Honestly the salad was better than the tartare. I got to try the steak, chicken, and polenta as well as the celery salad. I loved all of those dishes and probably liked the tartare the least. It was mainly the texture and that it was heavily processed and like a pate rather than a tartare. We got one of each dessert, a peanut butter mousse and olive oil cake. I liked the flavor of the cake but the texture of the mousse. Neither of the desserts did it for me. We sat outside and the train being literally right next to this venue made it charming maybe one time and the rest of the time the train traveling by was adjusting and annoying. I loved the patio setup and the inside was nice too, but loud. I wouldn't return but I can appreciate South Pas having another food place with fabulous drinks all around.

Excellent! I really only came for a drink and light appetizers. We got biscuits and split a salad. My friend got a spirit and I got an IPA. We sat at the bar. The bartender was very accommodating and the vibes were very chill. Will be back to try their proteins and reorder that celery salad becase omg it was the best!

Went here for Valentine's Day dinner! Came for the biscuits, those were absolutely amazing! So flakey and crunchy on the outside. The shrimp was also amazing, easily peelable & super flavorful. The buger was good, but not amazing, glad it came with fries though! Only con for the food was that it came out one at a time, so we ate everything one at a time and waiting inbetween. (I prefer to get food altogether). (Also, note: I am not sure if that is normal or because it was a busy night) The service was pretty good, but again it was a busy night so it may be better on other nights. But, overall the place was super cute and was a great spot for a date night! Would definitely go again for the biscuits & shrimp

We had such a great delicious meal here, we ended up ordering a little bit of everything. I am usually not a fan of celery, but the shaved celery salad was way better than it sounds, it was crispy, refreshing and light. The roasted carrot salad is a must order now, the carrots were perfectly caramelized and slightly sweet. The grilled white prawns were perfectly seasoned and cooked, and can tell it was fresh. The tuna tarter was flavorful, and had great texture, not overly seasoned. We shared the grilled chicken as our entree, it was juicy on the inside and nice char on the outside. Highland recommend. We finished with olive oil cake, not too sweet and sublet richness and light. Everything felt fresh, balanced, and well executed. Definitely would love to come back to try other dishes.

I absolutely love Hippo in Highland Park and when I heard this sister restaurant opened up, I was thrilled! Made a reservation for my friend and I for 6:30 on a Saturday night. I arrived a few minutes beforehand and was greeted warmly and seated promptly. Once my friend arrived we ordered cocktails and then opted for the flaky buttermilk biscuits, tuna tartare, steak, and fries. We asked if this would be enough and our waiter said it would probably be a light dinner, but that we can certainly see how we feel and decide if we'd want more. The tuna tartare came out first and very quickly, and it was fresh and delicious. The biscuits came next and they were perfect. Warm, flaky, buttery, with the perfect butter to spread on. The butter is a cinnamon butter that I believe is the same one they use for the Hippo rolls, and it's incredible. Then came the steak, which we ordered medium rare, and delicious French fries. The food was all excellent. Zero complaints and all crave-able. We had some space leftover so picked out the olive oil cake for dessert and that effectively filled our tummies! Overall, this place has fantastic food, service, and incredible vibes without the insane LA crowds or annoying parking, so I'll definitely be returning!

Came with my coworker to celebrate our birthdays. Wow. In love with every single plate we ordered. The shrimp were huge. The fideo and clams was my first time trying fideo and it was amazing--the clams had a deep wine-y taste. The salad was so unique and everything in it paired so well! The burger was simple and perfect. I made carne asada fries with leftover fries the next day! We were worried about the portions since somehow the food looks small in pics but this was more than enough food for two girls who eat a lot. A great place for special occasions!

The shining stars were the honey biscuits, prawns and the cocktails. The hanger steak and burger had great flavor but found the meat a bit tough and both could be juicier. And fries could use more pizazz. But the aioli and sauces were amazing. The salad and calamari were good and standard. All in all probably one of the best fine dining places in south pas. That biscuit is truly other worldly.

Cannonball is a chic, two-story restaurant in South Pasadena. We tried to make a same day reservation but there were no openings until 8:30pm so we took a chance as a walk-in at 6:30 and were seated at the upstairs bar. Of course we had to partake and the cocktails were lovely. The buttermilk biscuits with honey butter were immaculate. No notes and these need to be part of your order. The yellowfin tuna crudo was light and refreshing and the vinaigrette added a pop of brightness. We finished it out with the bbq 8oz prime NY steak which was tasty but nothing to write home about. Keep in mind that because it's bbq'd, it's very charred on the outside but still perfectly tender inside.

We came to celebrate a birthday and they made us feel so special. From taking our last minute reservation and greeting us in person to bringing our girl a birthday dessert, they really took care of us. Food was a hit or miss, but everything that hit was worth coming back for. The buttermilk biscuits and honey butter are absolutely incredible. Order this the second you arrive because it does take 18 minutes to make, but comes fresh out of the oven for you. It's super soft and flaky, and the best biscuits I've ever had. Roasted carrots were great as well. So flavorful and we kept wanting more. Dessert was insane as well, we got some chocolate crème. Fideo and calamari were a miss, but they weren't bad. We will be skipping these when we come back to try the rest of the menu. It's a great time of the year to visit too because of the holiday decor. This place was so warm and welcoming. We cannot wait to come back.

Came on a Thursday night and walked in. They had a table for 2 for us. There's street parking. We sat on the 2nd floor. It's a nice dark ambiance. Great for date nights and small groups. It's more of a tapas place. Buttermilk biscuits ($14)- these are so so good. The apple cinnamon butter is so good. You have to get this! They take 30 min to prepare. Shaved celery salad ($15)- people recommend, it doesn't seem good but it was really really good. The dates were good and feta cheese was a great compliment. It's great for drinks and cocktails. They have a rotating list so the list is always changing. Stolen moments $15- gin high ball was super super good. Sour and tart Milk and honey martini- gin and vermouth was interesting and pretty good. They have a super exclusive access to this Japanese whisky called Ichiro Malt Chichibo. Apparently the owner knows a guy that imports this whisky. My friend tried a shot and he loved it. It was pretty caramelized and the alcohol didn't burn.

The food here was outstanding, and I'm surprised it isn't rated higher! We came on a whim, 10 min before the kitchen closed, and were still treated so wonderfully by all of the staff here. The food came out quickly and tasted amazing! The trout was a huge hit for me! The purple potatoes and greens cooked in the most perfect savory sauce was the perfect complement to the perfectly made fish. I'd order this dish every time I come!! Also extremely delicious were their biscuits. Hot, flaky, and buttery, if I could have these daily, I'd be so happy! Especially after slathering on the special butter, this is like the perfect pastry for me! Another really yummy item was their fries! Perfectly fried and crispy, this place has some of the best fries I've had in a while! This is a great restaurant for a date night, hanging out with a group of friends, or just hanging out solo at the bar! I recommend checking this place out when you're in the area!

We got last minute reservations for Friday evening for 6.15. It got very busy later. We sat upstairs. The space is lovely. It is a tad bit loud. We started off with cocktails. All were good. I got the love walked in. Fabulous cocktail with ginger syrup. The rest of my party got the gg. That was good. Strong. The gg and gg was also good. For food we got the 18 min biscuits. Lovely layers on the biscuits. The shrimp was simple but very tasty. The calamari was good but just okay. The tuna tartare was fresh and lemony. The Fideo was different. I really liked it. The standout to me was the celery salad. Loved the dates. There's only one dessert - The olive oil cake. The server did tell us there was a little cornbread. But I think it was a little too cornbready for me. Definitely not your classic olive oil cake.

Wow...what a gem in the small city of South Pas. Came here without reservations one night and we waited 30-45 mins in the upstairs lounge area before being taken to our seats at the bar. The place is located on Mission before or after the train tracks depending on which direction you're traveling. Close by is the Michael Myers house so if you wanna stop by, this is your time. Cannonball is easy to miss as you walk by as there's no huge sign, but upon coming into the space, it feels intimate and cozy, and the ambiance is both friendly for a date night or for a family dinner (saw multiple families dining with their kids, not surprised in the city of South Pasadena). Having read up a little about this place and it being part of the Everson Royce Bar family, the biscuits were a must. Heard Greta things about the burger too but we often for something else so here's the line up for our dinner: -celery salad (bartender recommended it and even he said, "yeah, I know what you're thinking but it works." And you know what, he was right. It not only works but I thought it was incredible - so much so that I started looking for recipes online for something similar and recreated this salad at home.) -biscuits (small but boy are these mighty towers of flaky, buttery goodness...biscuits of all biscuits) -prawns (read mixed reviews about this but I actually really liked them) -steak (forgot the specific name of the dish but the steak was cooked perfectly. Tender and flavorful...delish! And served on top of creamy mashed potatoes. Yum!) Drinks were delicious also and reasonably priced. Overall, solid 5 stars and I would definitely come back Again. Service is also very attentive. Truly have nothing but to rave about this place. However, make sure to plan ahead and get reservations to minimize the wait time.

They have veggie options but not a whole separate menu.

Yes, rice noodles, salads and calamari

    Do they take walk-ins?

Yes! But get there early so you do t have to wait long!

If I have to guess no. Because it's a wine bar linen restaurant. I will check this weekend.

It's just floor to ceiling decorated with everything tiki. So many fun details and even interactive elements that turn on when a particular drink was ordered. That was probably my favorite part honestly. We ordered the Tiki Diablo, which is a large tiki drink with a flaming volcano. And yes it does have an interactive element. It was really good. Very fruity and strong, but not overly so. Service was excellent. Our waitress was on it and even waited to make sure my husband was back from the bathroom before lighting our drink on fire. We didn't try any food this time, but a lot of people were ordering the Hawaiian pizza. Do with that what you may. Will definitely be back ti try more drinks and food. I'm a second-generation Irish-American from New York, and St. Patrick's Day has always meant something in my family. Growing up it was about heritage, family, and a little joy. Now that I have two daughters of my own -- very Irish-looking girls who are proud of their roots -- I wanted them to experience some of that same Irish pub spirit. So on St. Patrick's Day 2025, I took them to Griffin's of Kinsale in South Pasadena. They were so excited to be there -- the decorations, the music, the feeling of a real Irish pub. For a moment I thought, this is going to be a great memory for them. We came early because it was a school night. The restaurant was busy -- which is understandable on St. Patrick's Day. I ordered three salmon dinners for my daughters and myself. The bill came to about $150. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. Over an hour and a half. During that entire time: * No one warned us the kitchen was backed up when we ordered. * No one checked on our table. * No updates. * No communication at all. Had someone simply said "Just so you know, food may take an hour or more tonight," I could have made a different decision -- especially with two kids who had school the next morning. Instead we sat downstairs watching the clock while the evening disappeared. By the end of the night my daughters -- who had been so excited walking in -- were tired, hungry, and miserable. When I asked to speak with a manager, no one came. No explanation. No apology. Restaurants get slammed on holidays. Kitchens fall behind. That happens. But ignoring a table for 90 minutes -- especially a family with children -- isn't a busy night. It's bad management. What should have been a fun St. Patrick's Day memory for my daughters turned into a long, uncomfortable evening where we felt completely invisible. For a place that trades so heavily on Irish identity and hospitality, this was about as far from hospitality as you can get. Save your $150 and celebrate St. Patrick's Day somewhere that actually wants you there. And if management would like to explain how a family ends up waiting 90 minutes with no communication, I'd genuinely be interested to hear it.

The Purple Peter Eater is a picturesque drink that combines rum with Ube beer and gets its pretty hue from Ube Syrup. The Moon Rocks had a bit of a kick and is a tad on the sweet side. Grandma's Purse, which features miso-infused Suntory, butterscotch, and 5 spice, was surprisingly savory and not sweet. On the other hand, Wabbit Season, which features carrot, cumin and celery among its ingredients, was surprisingly sweet. Go figure. I enjoyed the novelty of those drinks but I probably would not get them again. I would be interested in trying out some of their other cocktails though.

Dark, forest green everywhere with velvet furniture and greenery hanging down from the ceiling. It's very elegant and chic. My friend and I like to go for their special burger happy hour. We get Impossible burgers and tater tots and just gab for like an hour. Their smash-burgers are so delicious, yum! My husband and I recently tried their grilled cheese and tomato soup combo, too, which we really enjoyed. Very filling. Their cocktail program has some unique flavors, which isn't always my thing. But everything I've had has been outstanding, even their mocktails. I really liked one of the new ones I had recently, which was called something like Grandma's House? I can't remember, but it was spiced and had a star anise as garnish. A bit on the pricier side, but probably because they use premium ingredients and such unique flavors combos. Love the neighborhood bar vibe. It's a welcoming little oasis in the urban jungle of Highland Park.

Had a dinner reservation with some girlfriends celebrating two of their birthdays. The restaurant itself isn't too big but it does a pack a nice punch. Cute patio out front that takes some of the sidewalks and streets. Plenty of heat lamps which helped with the chilly nights. We got seated at one of the tables on the patios which was nice. Didn't really utilize inside area except for the restroom which it's quite cute in there. The rooms were pretty well decorated and executed. Nice bar area too. Like mentioned, we got seated on the patio and the heat lamps were great. Down to the menus, it's quite limited on dishes. Seemed like there were more shared plates versus the entrees. Drinks, it was fairly decent with their cocktails and wine. Service at the beginning was great. The staff were amazing and very friendly. We didn't order right away as we were still waiting for the last one to show. But did start off with some drinks. It didn't take that long for the first round which was nice. Food wise, the shared plate was a mixture of everything. Some of the olives, which is exactly what it is. The Belgian fries, nice thick cut fries with shredded pecorino cheese and a nice aioli sauce. We ended up getting a second order of it. The albacore tuna crudo was a hit which was really tasty. Chili ginger relish, mint and shallot, can't go wrong with that. Lastly the meatballs, tasty and very great for sharing. Entrees, the pan seared sea bass which I loved. Portion is pretty tiny which also seemed like they were a shared plate. Almost tapas styled. Nice chimichurri sauce and a side salad. The chicken Milanese also with a side salad of arugula. Simple dish but quite tasty. One of the salads that was somewhat hyped up by the waitress but it was just a salad. Decent but nothing major to rave about...lol... also the confit oyster mushrooms was major hit. Something that simple but quite tasty. And lastly the pan con tomate, rustic sourdough with tomatoes and burrata. Tasty as well. Overall the meal was good. From there, the second round of drinks did take a long time to arrive and with then plates that we shared, trying to get someone to clear the plates was another thing. Took a long for someone to clear the table before more items came. Even when the entrees came, all the empty starter plates were still there. And if someone did clear the plates, some was still left on the table. Finishing off the night, we did have the dessert which we tried all three. As it was two of our girlfriends birthday, they brought out a little bubbly for us to celebrate with the dessert. That was quite sweet and nice. Honestly opinion with the dessert, they were just ok. Nothing major to rave about. We tried all three on the menu and they were just ok. Overall, the food was great. Service was nice and the staffs were all very friendly. It did take a while for plates to get cleared from the table and second round did take a while, but it was manageable. It was a sweet gesture with the bubbly with the dessert which was greatly appreciated. The place is nice and great for catching up. Menu is limited and portions are quite small. You would have to get a good amount for sharing. Entrees, depending on what you order is small as well. But we enjoyed ourself.

They serve lukewarm water and the a/c was on but was not on ..if u catch my drift. The front hostess was also phenomenal, I had reservation for outdoor seating but since she saw that the sun was like glaring, she asked if I wanted to change to inside. Very obliging and accommodating. Food: 5 stars, surprisingly good, right amount for us. I was full but I can see where other reviewers say portions are small. It's small if u're a heavy eater. But the quality is definitely there. Ambiance: trendy, high energy, casual vibes where u can lounge and have a beer while munching on fries...or u can choose to be poshy and have a glass of wine with a salad and Chilean sea bass. It's flexible to accommodate both as there are different sections. Parking: street metered 1 hour parking. 3 stars, not their fault but 1 hour is simply not enough. It can get super busy and the server can be pulled left and right, so cut them some slack during super busy hours. Will definitely be back. Highly recommended .

Because this is a hotel bar since it's situated in The Langham 5-star luxury hotel, the drinks are expensive like $25 starting. One of my friends got a lemon-based mocktail (pretty good) and I got Cosmopolitan-type cocktail with Prosecco (pretty solid and not overly sweet, just not one of the best cocktails I tried). Another friend ordered Negroni, which is a potent cocktail with a bitter sharp, dry aftertaste. I could hardly taste any hint of sweetness in the drink. My friend thought it was too bitter, too. Honestly, for me it tastes just as bitter as a Manhattan, probably because both cocktails incorporate sweet vermouth. 3 stars for the poor customer service and wait time for standing in line to order drinks. There were 2 or 3 bartenders and they were rushing but also seemed like they weren't efficiently helping customers with drinks in a timely manner. The lounge area was meh (super limited seat spots) and the vibes were bland despite coming here on New Year's Eve. Definitely an older demographic that frequents this bar, not that it's a bad thing, just not our vibe since it would've been more fun if there other people closer to our age, so we decided to bar hop elsewhere after.

We made a later reservation and would have stayed longer but didn't know just how much of an experience it would be. Vibes here are dark and moody, and it would be a great place for a unique date, just maybe not the first one. We got the beef tartare and spicy tuna crispy rice to munch on. The spicy tuna crispy rice was worth it, the beef tartare not so much. Also decided to do the drink omakase because they make the single drink prices so expensive it still feels more worth it to do the omakase so you end up getting that instead. You tell the server what you do and don't like or are looking for in your drinks and the bartenders will make them for you. Some might be already on the menu, some may not. If there is something you really don't like and you tell the servers, they will be kind enough to replace it for you with something you do. Overall they did a good job with making mine but didn't quite hit it for my friend. The omakase is at least 3 drinks, so be prepared to have transportation after, you may be a little drunk Overall would come back or bring other people here just for the unique experience, but it is pricier than just grabbing a cocktail at a normal bar.
