We ordered a variety of dishes to share, including the buttermilk biscuits, yellowfin tuna tartare, BBQ chicken, calamari, and the fideos, and every single dish was delicious. My personal favorites were the buttermilk biscuits and the fideos. The biscuits were warm, buttery, and absolutely irresistible, while the fideos were packed with flavor and easily a standout dish. Everything else was just as enjoyable, the tuna tartare was fresh, the calamari was perfectly cooked, and the BBQ chicken was tender and flavorful. Been here once for dinner, and another time to grab a cocktail before a show at Sid the cat auditorium. Food really exceptional, a compact menu, but everything we ordered was exquisite. The biscuits are perfection and will haunt your dreams. The crudo and burger also stood out. Was dining with some family who were visiting and dinner at Cannonball was their favorite meal of the trip. I felt like I was at Thanksgiving and the best way possible I could eat 10 of these biscuits. We also got the clams and fido and this was delicious. We love the flavoring and it was such a creative way on clams. We also got the celery salad, which was super refreshing. I've never had a salad like this and the dates with Parmesan cheese, and the vinaigrette was a really good combination. We also split a burger and fries. The burger was OK. Such a cute little restaurant in South Pasadena. My friends and I went to Cannonball to celebrate my birthday and it was the best decision ever. We sat inside the restaurant but you can also reserve outdoor seating. The staff was very welcoming and too the time to explain the menu to us. Their dishes are shareable and I suggest about 4-5 dishes for a party of three. Off their menu we ordered the fried calamari, the buttermilk biscuits, yellow fin tuna tartare, the fideos clams and the barbecue chicken. Everything was delicious but our favorite was the buttermilk biscuits! Please keep in mind that the biscuits take about 20 minutes to make so please order in advance. Overall the food and ambiance were delightful and I can't wait to go back! For parking, there is street parking around the area but may be difficult since there are quite a few restaurants around sharing rhe space. My wife and I came here for the first time and we didn't have any reservations but figured we would just see if they had any space at the bar. As for food, Wolf recommended we try the biscuits and I'm so glad he did because it was not something that I would have ordered had it not been for him. Literally the best biscuits I've ever had in my entire life. There is no other biscuit that comes close. It's exactly as it is described on the menu... flaky and buttery. It's an experience, truly. Even if biscuits were not what you thought you were going to order, just get them anyways. You have to try them. Just do it. GET THE BISCUITS! I personally like my burgers to be a bit more juicy and medium doneness. The Bill - beware of the 4% surcharge. I don't really understand these things. Just price the food how you want to price it rather than adding a 4% surcharge to the final bill. Also, their suggested tip is calculated using the Total including tax rather than the subtotal. I liked my salad and gin martini was good and my friend liked her dish and wine. Cons: 1. I made a reservation for 6:30 pm and my friend and I were busy in our conversation and were told by the server they need the table back at 8 pm. This was after he had come to see if we had paid the bill twice already. I felt rushed and even Bavel in downtown has a 2.5 hour time at their prime dinner time on weekends. It's embarrassing especially when you are dining with friends from Europe! Arhhh. Note that they do add a 6 percent surcharge on the bill which is not included in the tip. We sat outside, which was perfect for a quieter, more intimate dinner. A train passes by every so often, which gave it a cool New York vibe, but next time I'd probably sit inside. The interior looked much more lively and energetic, and they even have an upstairs seating area. We ordered the biscuits, tuna tartare, shrimp, a burger, and fries, and everything was fantastic. I am usually not a fan of celery, but the shaved celery salad was way better than it sounds, it was crispy, refreshing and light. I absolutely love Hippo in Highland Park and when I heard this sister restaurant opened up, I was thrilled! Made a reservation for my friend and I for 6:30 on a Saturday night. I arrived a few minutes beforehand and was greeted warmly and seated promptly. Once my friend arrived we ordered cocktails and then opted for the flaky buttermilk biscuits, tuna tartare, steak, and fries. We asked if this would be enough and our waiter said it would probably be a light dinner, but that we can certainly see how we feel and decide if we'd want more. The tuna tartare came out first and very quickly, and it was fresh and delicious. The biscuits came next and they were perfect. Warm, flaky, buttery, with the perfect butter to spread on. The butter is a cinnamon butter that I believe is the same one they use for the Hippo rolls, and it's incredible. Then came the steak, which we ordered medium rare, and delicious French fries. The food was all excellent. Zero complaints and all crave-able. We had some space leftover so picked out the olive oil cake for dessert and that effectively filled our tummies! We tried to make a same day reservation but there were no openings until 8:30pm so we took a chance as a walk-in at 6:30 and were seated at the upstairs bar. Of course we had to partake and the cocktails were lovely. The buttermilk biscuits with honey butter were immaculate. No notes and these need to be part of your order. The yellowfin tuna crudo was light and refreshing and the vinaigrette added a pop of brightness. We finished it out with the bbq 8oz prime NY steak which was tasty but nothing to write home about. From taking our last minute reservation and greeting us in person to bringing our girl a birthday dessert, they really took care of us. Parking is pretty easy because there is a parking lot that is free right around the corner. I believe it's Mentor -- or if you just drive a block or two away there's free residential parking. It's hit or miss if you find parking on Mission. But the Mission District of South Pasadena is historic and fun to walk around. The staff was incredibly attentive and you could tell very committed to their food and wine program. The patio outside really nice. We were able to walk in at 5:30 and eat at the bar-- and they could not have been more accommodating, even though we did not have reservations. Sitting at the bar given that it's an open kitchen we could see the commitment to made to order food and it's the type of place that if anyone did have an issue with their meal, I am sure they would rectify it. Wow...what a gem in the small city of South Pas. Came here without reservations one night and we waited 30-45 mins in the upstairs lounge area before being taken to our seats at the bar. The place is located on Mission before or after the train tracks depending on which direction you're traveling. Close by is the Michael Myers house so if you wanna stop by, this is your time. Cannonball is easy to miss as you walk by as there's no huge sign, but upon coming into the space, it feels intimate and cozy, and the ambiance is both friendly for a date night or for a family dinner (saw multiple families dining with their kids, not surprised in the city of South Pasadena). Having read up a little about this place and it being part of the Everson Royce Bar family, the biscuits were a must. Heard Greta things about the burger too but we often for something else so here's the line up for our dinner: -celery salad (bartender recommended it and even he said, "yeah, I know what you're thinking but it works." And you know what, he was right. Went here the other night. Had it on my list of places to try. There weren't any reservations available, so we decided to show up when it opened in hopes of getting a table. Thankfully we were able to get seated right away. Started with cocktails, which didn't really stand out. Maybe the wine would have been a better choice. For starters, we had to try the biscuits which were highly recommended, along with the tuna crudo and fideos. The biscuits were very good with the honey butter, thick and flaky. Just really good. The tuna crudo was also really good, a little heavy on the citrus but still good. The fideos with clams was heavy, but the chorizo added some needed pop of flavor to the dish. It was heavy though. After eating some of this, along with the biscuits, we weren't necessarily looking forward to the entree due to being full, but we rallied. The entree was the burger which, based on appearance, was not overly appealing. Looked very basic. But biting into it, the egg brioche bun was very good. Thr prime chuck meat and Tillamook cheese also worked well. So, though it does not look amazing, it was a decent burger with good flavor. The prawns were also a good size, seasoned with an aioli. Overall, those biscuits were delicious, without definitely recommend, and the crudo was also tasty. The burger was good while the fideos left sometging to be desired. I thought the food was great. I chose the yellowfin tuna tartare as my main and the burrata salad as my app. Honestly the salad was better than the tartare. I got to try the steak, chicken, and polenta as well as the celery salad. I loved all of those dishes and probably liked the tartare the least. It was mainly the texture and that it was heavily processed and like a pate rather than a tartare. We got one of each dessert, a peanut butter mousse and olive oil cake. I liked the flavor of the cake but the texture of the mousse. Neither of the desserts did it for me. When I heard that newly opened Cannonball had them on the menu, I was ecstatic! And, if you're a fan of Everson Royce Bar's infamous burger you can get it here too. Cannonball took over the former Piccolo location. I was happy to see that the original brick walls are still there. I arrived when they opened and asked if I could sit at the bar. Joe kindly escorted me upstairs where I was greeted by the darling Jessica (bartender). The wine list is extensive and includes a variety of vintage selections. The cocktail program is also top-notch, offering a selection of refined creations that pay homage to the local area in addition to a few classics. The food menu is limited, placing an emphasis on quality and the incorporation of seasonal ingredients. The biscuits are made fresh to order and take about 18 minutes. I requested them along with a cocktail - Take the "A" Train because it sounded intriguing. My drink was a delightful surprise - a nice blend of Cognac, Cynar, house made orgeat, lemon, & nutmeg. It was lovely and reminded me of fall. I savored it while enjoying the background music that had me grooving in my seat. My eyes lit up with excitement when the coveted biscuits were placed in front of me. They were as majestic as I remembered. Three flaky, mile-high biscuits stacked on a plate with a generous amount of honey butter on the side. I took my first bite, and I was in heaven! The biscuit was warm with multiple flaky layers that melted in my mouth. The honey butter was the icing on the cake! I wasn't the only one enjoying these delicious morsels. The ladies sitting next to me ordered them too. I originally called to make reservations about 10 days in advance & when I called the lady said I'll get a call back in 24-48 hours which seemed odd and then I never got a call back. I ended up calling back a couple days later and got reservations for the day & time I originally wanted. My wife and I arrived about 20 minutes early and we got seated immediately. The customer service from beginning to the end was amazing. I was extremely impressed with the decor of this place. It's extremely cozy, warm and quaint. I was also loving the playlist they had. The drinks were great and the food was pretty good. The burger was a little small but packed with flavor. My wife said the tuna tartare was bland and was too citrusy. The chocolate dessert was good, but nothing special. The menu is extremely limited. Since I am walking distance to this restaurant, I will most certainly return in the near future and I'll try other items from the menu. read more

This is our second time at Cannonball and just as the first, the food was excellent. We had the. Shaved celery salad (so tasty), the biscuits (magically delicious), the hanger steak(wonderful), chocolate pot de crème for dessert fries and the burger, which was vey good after I took it home and cooked it for a bit longer. Honestly, I should have let them know that I, like Lisa from Temecula of SNL fame, like restaurants to "Cook my meat!" The owner was very gracious and offered to have it remade and also did not charge us. We will be returning. read more

A few wins, a few misses, all in a beautifully decorated space with lukewarm service Flakey Buttermilk Biscuits - 5+ stars. Absolutely amazing! Light, flakey, airy deliciousness served with a tasty honey butter. Shaved Celery Salad - 4 stars. Served with dates, walnut, and mint this was light and refreshing. A perfect salad for a warm day in LA. Yellowfin Tuna Tartare - 3 stars. Totally lacked flavor and not that interesting. An extremely forgettable dish. Hanger Steak - 5 stars. Excellent!! Rich in flavors, cooked to perfection, and oh so tasty. Barbecued Chicken - 3 stars. Bland, lacking seasoning, and not that interesting. Olive Oil Cake - 3 stars. A bit mealy and lacking a bit in the flavor department, not a big fan. All in all I'm happy that I got to try this spot out but am not rushing back anytime soon. Cocktails were good, the service was just fine, though I thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance and the flatware was gorgeous as well. read more
