10 1/4 is a hidden cocktail bar located underneath Freddie's 35er, a popular Dodgers bar. To get here, not only do you have to go to the back of The 35er and go down the stairs, you ignore the tiki bar in front of you and make an immediately right U-turn. You reach a phone booth, pick up the phone, and wait for someone to buzz you in. This bar is different from the other two bars as it's smaller, more intimate, and focused on craft cocktails. On nights and weekends though, it can still get busy. We ordered a variety of drinks and liked the menta milk punch ($18), last word ($18), and queen's park swizzle ($16). Tonight's adventure to visit 10 1/4 on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena was so completely worthwhile. You enter the raucous dive bar called the 35er and then go downstairs to find a phone booth. From there you pick up the phone and listen for the bar back to ask you how many are in your party. Generally it's advised that your party should be six or fewer--and its first come first served because the max capacity is 30. We thoroughly enjoyed our seats at the bar where we admired Riley's mixology skills and Marcus' stories about the history of the venue. We ordered an Old Fashioned and a Madcap to start with, followed by a Sazerac and a Pendennis Club (an off-the-menu apricot delight to the senses recommended by Riley). 10 1/4 has everything you could want in a speakeasy from the cool way you gain entrance, to the expertise of seasoned bartenders, to the intimate dimlit setting with 1930s style music in the background to set the mood. Went here to get drinks on a Wednesday night. We couldn't figure out where the stairs down to the entrance was so we were standing around until another group walked by & we followed them. Down the stairs, there is a "phone booth" where you pick up the phone & tell them how many in your party. You push open the wall of the phone booth & voila! It's a very small, dimly lit speakeasy with about 6 or 7 small tables. There's counter seating but there was a group of people in their running gear - I assume they're part of the Pasadena Pacers that I saw running earlier. I found that odd, I wouldn't be going for drinks after I ran because I'd be sick but then again, I'm out of shape! LOL! They had some specialty cocktails & mocktails, didn't particularly find mine that great. The decor was African Safari?? This place seems to have regulars that hang out for a drink & leave. The bar has a hidden entrance. I won't spoil it for you, but I was a little disappointed that when I mentioned it to the bouncer, he told us exactly what to do. I would've preferred a hint, rather than step-by-step instructions. Stepping inside feels exactly as exclusive as it should. I was immediately at home under the low lights with gentle music and quiet conversations humming around us. We could barely see the menu, which was fine because the bartender was the kind of person who could give you what you want just by asking a few questions about your tastes. As the night wore on, the place filled up, so get there early, and strike up a conversation with the bartender - you'll get some good recommendations. This is a cute little Speakeasy tucked away in the bottom floor of the always fun 35er bar. Walk into the phone booth, pick up the phone, and wait until someone answers and gives you access in. It's very small so it does get full fast. The bartender was polite, not overly friendly, but with him being the only one making drinks, I can understand why the niceties aren't all that important. I can't remember the name of the drink I ordered, but my friend had a dirty martini and we were both happy with our drinks. It was one of those rare occasions when a drink was not to someone in our party's liking... upon returning it to the bar and respectfully requesting a different drink, the bartender questioned our motives, our drinking experience, and made us a ridiculous "offer" to charge us $12 for another drink. Not trying to get something for nothing, but certainly made to feel that way. Had frequented this bar multiple times, tbh it was my favorite in Pasadena until this past weekend. A group of friends and I went here and started the night with a $100+ order. My friend forgot she had a beatbox in her pocket and she set it on the table while we all talked and had our drinks. About 5 minutes later security comes up to us and tells us that we have to leave the bar entirely not just 10 1/4 but the 35er bar they had already grabbed the beatbox and threw it away. Dark chill atmosphere once you find your way to this bar. Once you are actually inside, I would exercise patience. There isn't alot of seating as it is a more intimate environment. In addition, seemed like there was only one bartender making drinks. I had the old-fashioned, which tasted a bit watered down. There's plenty of options, so maybe I should have been more explorative. As a side note, 20% gratuity gets added on for bills over $100. If you are having trouble finding the bar, just go downstairs from the sportsbar and go the opposite direction of the tiki bar. coming into 10 1/4 was such a unique experience! if my friend didn't know about this place, I would have never known about a place like this. 10 1/4 is located within the 35er bar downstairs past the tiki bar. inside, the location is relatively small so I would recommend coming a little earlier if you have a bigger party, but people do come in and out relatively often. I got the floradora and it looked beautiful and tasted great! it was fruity and refreshing and wasn't too strong for me as I'm not a huge fan of strong alcoholic drinks. My favorite little happy place to visit in the evening and take friends to and watch them be delighted by the discovery as well. The cocktail with oat milk (forgot its name) is my absolute favorite. It's such a surprise! Several people who have tried it also loved it and said they will be getting that one next time. The ambience here is pretty special. Walk straight through to the back, look for the stairs marked with a sign that says "Phone", head down, then do a sharp U-turn over your right shoulder, otherwise you'll end up at Don's Colorado Grotto, a tiki bar! Also cute, but not what we came for. There, you'll find the wooden phone booth. Pick up the phone, let it ring, and someone will answer and ask how many people are in your party. Then, they'll instruct you in. Now, they say they screen for crowd control, but honestly, they just kept letting folks in. The space is tiny, so if you're claustrophobic, you may want to reconsider or plan for a very short stay. Once you're in, you'll see an impressive wall of bottles, including some collectible picks. The bartenders definitely have skill and put effort into the technique. But some of the drinks were a bit light-handed. We didn't come here to black out, but we also didn't come here for expensive juice, you know? Here's what we tried: - 10 1/4 Old Fashioned: Somehow watery?? Not sure how that even happened. - Floor is Lava: Tasty, but felt like juice. I had a beer beforehand and still felt nothing. - Clover Club: Tasted like cough syrup to me. I love how hidden it is, especially the extra step of phoning in for access. The mint drink is my absolute favorite and would crave it on a cold night. My group was up for an adventure, and this spot delivered. Here is your treasure map to finding the 10 1/4 Pasadena, speakeasy bar. I hope I'm not violating any confidentiality. You need to go into the 35er Bar, which is a Dodger haven on gameday. After a quick ID check, you will immediately be greeted by an extensive Dodger bobblehead collection. Good chance you will hear some heavy metal music playing as the 35er has some fun, rough edges. You will find sports memoribilia throughout with homage to the Dodgers, Kings and Raiders. So, go past the billiards tables, located in the back, and down the stairs, you will see a sign that says, 'phone,' you will need to make a private call in an innocuous phone both, which has a false wall/door that opens after you tell them how many people are in your party. It is a rather small bar with a unique theme. I thought it was like something out of Disneyland, with dank lighting and a heavy monkey and elephant theme. The decor added to the unique experience, and they make great scratch drinks. On this night, mix master, Freddie T was fast at work. We enjoyed a round of really strong drinks and then continued our adventure. What we did not realize is that there is a 3rd component to the 35er Bar, a Tiki bar. It was appropriately themed with Tiki decor, Hawaiian music, and a complimentary lei. There is an additional back stairwell to get out, or down, whatever the case. It is conspicuously positioned behind the bobblehead display wall, which we missed on our way in. This entire location and experience was really fun. An additional highlight was meeting "Beachy" who is a TikTok famous parakeet who was touring the area with his owner. What an adventure! read more

We went here for a drink with some friends and was excited to have found this on Yelp. It was a bit challenging to find which was part of the thrill, but when my husband found it, it was actually between some kegs that were doors which we though was the entrance. Unknowingly, we opened the door and all of a sudden security rushed us and yelled at us. I completely understand now that it wasn't the main entrance of the bar, but we didn't need to be yelled at like we were children. It reminded me a bit of Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland - warm, kind of humid with all the people tucked in, a little magical. The drinks were freaking good.
