    Phone booth secret entrance

Tonight's adventure to visit 10 1/4 on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena was so completely worthwhile. You enter the raucous dive bar called the 35er and then go downstairs to find a phone booth. From there you pick up the phone and listen for the bar back to ask you how many are in your party. Generally it's advised that your party should be six or fewer--and its first come first served because the max capacity is 30. We thoroughly enjoyed our seats at the bar where we admired Riley's mixology skills and Marcus' stories about the history of the venue. We ordered an Old Fashioned and a Madcap to start with, followed by a Sazerac and a Pendennis Club (an off-the-menu apricot delight to the senses recommended by Riley). 10 1/4 has everything you could want in a speakeasy from the cool way you gain entrance, to the expertise of seasoned bartenders, to the intimate dimlit setting with 1930s style music in the background to set the mood. We may not be locals, but we'll definitely be back!!

I'm 100% here for the ambiance and milk punch because it is super easy to drink as long as you like mint. Especially if you like mint and chip ice cream :) I came with a group of 8 and it was a bit odd fitting into this space. I recc going as a small group (4 or less, 2 is perfect because they have there half tables...) Bartenders are super chill and really know their stuff. Overall, would come here again

A hidden gem tucked beneath 35er in Old Town Pasadena -- just pick up the phone in the booth to get in! The space is cozy and filled up quickly around 8:30, so arriving early is a good idea. The drinks were creative and well-balanced. I especially loved the Menta Milk Punch -- smooth, refreshing, and full of flavor. Definitely worth a visit if you're into speakeasy vibes and unique cocktails.

Went here to get drinks on a Wednesday night. We couldn't figure out where the stairs down to the entrance was so we were standing around until another group walked by & we followed them. Down the stairs, there is a "phone booth" where you pick up the phone & tell them how many in your party. You push open the wall of the phone booth & voila! It's a very small, dimly lit speakeasy with about 6 or 7 small tables. There's counter seating but there was a group of people in their running gear - I assume they're part of the Pasadena Pacers that I saw running earlier. I found that odd, I wouldn't be going for drinks after I ran because I'd be sick but then again, I'm out of shape! LOL! They had some specialty cocktails & mocktails, didn't particularly find mine that great. The decor was African Safari?? This place seems to have regulars that hang out for a drink & leave. Overall, it's interesting but I don't think I would make an effort to come back unless I had out-of-town friends who wanted to bar hop. And with the stairs, it's not handicap accessible.

Nice cozy layout. A lot quieter than upstairs. Drinks were good. And service was good. I'd definitely come back

This is a cute little Speakeasy tucked away in the bottom floor of the always fun 35er bar. Walk into the phone booth, pick up the phone, and wait until someone answers and gives you access in. It's very small so it does get full fast. The bartender was polite, not overly friendly, but with him being the only one making drinks, I can understand why the niceties aren't all that important. I can't remember the name of the drink I ordered, but my friend had a dirty martini and we were both happy with our drinks. I would come again, though it would not be my first choice as far as a speakeasy. I would probably just stick to the 35er upstairs.

Ok, this place was such an amazing hidden gem I almost don't want to write a review for it and want to keep it my little secret. Speakeasy under the 35er that holds about 30 people. Went on a Saturday night and it surprisingly wasn't too too packed. Bartenders were great, drinks were great, atmosphere was great. I can't say enough good things about this place. Absolutely want to sneak back!

coming into 10 1/4 was such a unique experience! if my friend didn't know about this place, I would have never known about a place like this. 10 1/4 is located within the 35er bar downstairs past the tiki bar. inside, the location is relatively small so I would recommend coming a little earlier if you have a bigger party, but people do come in and out relatively often. I got the floradora and it looked beautiful and tasted great! it was fruity and refreshing and wasn't too strong for me as I'm not a huge fan of strong alcoholic drinks. I will definitely be returning with some friends again!

Dimly-lit, somewhat secret speakeasy. Coin/resin countertop bar. Drinks that you wouldn't find anywhere else in the city (I don't drink but my friends who do told me), and exceptional customer service with reasonable drinks. What else could you ask for? Somewhat of a secret entrance, but all I'll say is that there is a a phone booth and you must do something in it to be granted access to this exclusive speakeasy.

Edder was the bartender of the night and was awesome! We loved the Menta Milk Punch which tasted like mint chocolate, and Siesta cocktails. We had shots of mezcal too! Call the phone booth to be let in! Find a cozy seat at a table or the bar. Arrive early to get a seat on a Saturday night! Will definitely be back!

My favorite little happy place to visit in the evening and take friends to and watch them be delighted by the discovery as well. The cocktail with oat milk (forgot its name) is my absolute favorite. It's such a surprise! Several people who have tried it also loved it and said they will be getting that one next time. The ambience here is pretty special. It feels secretive and magical and relaxing, and so many other things, all at once. The bartender is pretty interesting as well, and if he's not busy, does enjoy having a little chat about the place or his cocktail inventions. PS. The coin/resin bar is gorgeous, especially with the dim amber lighting!

If you're looking for a cute place with amazing drinks that are all designed with inventive cocktails inspired by different countries, this is so worth checking out. Pricey but so worth the experiences and drinks. We started off our night here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The staff was so beyond nice and welcoming. The inside is absolutely gorgeous and the ambience is the perfect date night setting. Brandon, our server, was so beyond nice! Open to answering our questions and giving us pretty good recommendations! We got the Japanese milk bread and patatas bravas as snacks. The milk bread was complemented perfectly with the two butters we got - one sweet and one savory. The patatas bravas, omg, they were so delicious. Made with scallions and sriracha aioli, hard to dislike, when paired with perfectly crispy potatoes. As a gin lover, i was so intrigued by the sands of time, and let me tell you it did not disappoint. Who knew gin paired so well with the different herbals and ingredients paired in this drink?! So delicious and you can brew the drink longer to really let the flavors settle! The presentation, 10/10! I liked it so much I got it twice. My husband started off with the duck fat old fashioned. He's a huge lover of old fashioneds and was intrigued. He loved how smooth it was. He then got me and my best friend which is close to a Manhattan and loved the Asian twist to it. We laughed at the presentation, it was perfect. Definitely interested in trying the omakase drink experience, will definitely be back!

Had a dinner reservation with some girlfriends celebrating two of their birthdays. The restaurant itself isn't too big but it does a pack a nice punch. Cute patio out front that takes some of the sidewalks and streets. Plenty of heat lamps which helped with the chilly nights. We got seated at one of the tables on the patios which was nice. Didn't really utilize inside area except for the restroom which it's quite cute in there. The rooms were pretty well decorated and executed. Nice bar area too. Like mentioned, we got seated on the patio and the heat lamps were great. Down to the menus, it's quite limited on dishes. Seemed like there were more shared plates versus the entrees. Drinks, it was fairly decent with their cocktails and wine. Service at the beginning was great. The staff were amazing and very friendly. We didn't order right away as we were still waiting for the last one to show. But did start off with some drinks. It didn't take that long for the first round which was nice. Food wise, the shared plate was a mixture of everything. Some of the olives, which is exactly what it is. The Belgian fries, nice thick cut fries with shredded pecorino cheese and a nice aioli sauce. We ended up getting a second order of it. The albacore tuna crudo was a hit which was really tasty. Chili ginger relish, mint and shallot, can't go wrong with that. Lastly the meatballs, tasty and very great for sharing. Entrees, the pan seared sea bass which I loved. Portion is pretty tiny which also seemed like they were a shared plate. Almost tapas styled. Nice chimichurri sauce and a side salad. The chicken Milanese also with a side salad of arugula. Simple dish but quite tasty. One of the salads that was somewhat hyped up by the waitress but it was just a salad. Decent but nothing major to rave about...lol... also the confit oyster mushrooms was major hit. Something that simple but quite tasty. And lastly the pan con tomate, rustic sourdough with tomatoes and burrata. Tasty as well. Overall the meal was good. From there, the second round of drinks did take a long time to arrive and with then plates that we shared, trying to get someone to clear the plates was another thing. Took a long for someone to clear the table before more items came. Even when the entrees came, all the empty starter plates were still there. And if someone did clear the plates, some was still left on the table. Finishing off the night, we did have the dessert which we tried all three. As it was two of our girlfriends birthday, they brought out a little bubbly for us to celebrate with the dessert. That was quite sweet and nice. Honestly opinion with the dessert, they were just ok. Nothing major to rave about. We tried all three on the menu and they were just ok. Overall, the food was great. Service was nice and the staffs were all very friendly. It did take a while for plates to get cleared from the table and second round did take a while, but it was manageable. It was a sweet gesture with the bubbly with the dessert which was greatly appreciated. The place is nice and great for catching up. Menu is limited and portions are quite small. Several reviewers mentioned that the steak was tough and chewy, but those comments were from about eight months ago, so I assumed the restaurant had improved by now. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. My daughter ordered the Steak Frites and couldn't even cut through the steak with the steak knife, let alone chew it. We ordered it medium rare, and while it looked almost raw when it arrived, it was somehow still incredibly tough and chewy. It was so difficult to eat that my jaw actually started hurting from chewing it. I brought it to the waitress's attention. Looking back, I probably should have asked for it to be removed from the bill entirely. Instead, she offered to replace it with a different cut of steak that she said would be more tender but cost more. And I fell for it, I agreed. The replacement steak arrived with only peppercorn sauce and no fries or sides (which she had mentioned beforehand), but what she didn't mention was how unpleasant the sauce was. At that point, I honestly wished we had just gone to Houston's. The one positive thing I can say is that we were seated on a side with a nice view of the surrounding buildings and street, which was enjoyable. Other than that, there was nothing about this experience that would make me want to return.

What makes 1894 truly special is how intentionally it celebrates literature. Everything in the bar pays homage to the bookstore. The drink menu is full of clever, book-inspired names. You'll find cocktails like Pride and PearJudice Pride, Fifty Shades of Earl Grey, and other fun literary twists. Every drink feels like a little wink to readers, writers, and book lovers, and it adds such a unique charm to the experience. The vibe is super quaint and warm, dim lighting, and a creative atmosphere that makes you want to stay for hours. The wine is on the pricier side ($19-$21 per glass), but the quality delivers. Customer service was excellent. One of the bartenders spent time chatting with us. He pointed out a chalk artwork behind the bar a dramatic portrait he drew himself featuring expressive, literary-style faces, like Edgar Allan Poe, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, etc. It fits perfectly with the creative, bookish aesthetic of the bar. The bar has some great cocktails to try but I went for "Don't be a Prick." Yes, the name alone had me at "hello," but it was a prickly pear margarita which is my fav! I lucked out! It had fresh blueberries in it and was very good! My Yelp sister Nikki went for the same drink, my sister Sam got the Purple People Eater which was rum based with Ube syrup & my sister Hannah ordered a specialty mocktail created by our bartender Lou who was dyno-mite! We enjoyed the music while catching up with each other. Great hang for friends with plenty of tables and bar seating. *There is a quaint courtyard that separates the bar from Mills Alley restaurant which offers a "lite bite" menu to Behind Bars. *Meter street parking & local parking garages
