Tiki B is in the basement of beany located in downtown Pasadena. Super easy to miss and I wish I did... The drinks were AWFUL. I'm not one to really complain, but literally all of their drinks were not it for me. The menu is limited and again, no solid tiki drinks on their menu. The server was friendly but not attentive but I'll give it a pass considering they were the only server for a few hours.. We only received one round of drinks after being there for over 3hrs. We did put in a second round but it took over 40 minutes to receive it so we sent it back, closed the tab and left. Not upset about the service but more so because of how bad the drinks were.. if you're drinking beer, then I'd come here but if you're looking for an authentic tiki spot, this is NOT it. Decor is cute & plenty of seating though.. music was awful. It ranged and did not go well. Kinda killed the chill vibes. I'm a frequent tiki bar go-er and I'd skip this for sure.

Pasadena Pub Run beer stop

Maybe I went on good night but I did not have the same negative experience everyone else seems to have. Once a month our run crew, Pasadena Pub Runners, meet up on a Friday in Old Pasadena for a few miles and make a stop at a local pub, bar, or restaurant. Every month we support a new location. Our July location was Tiki B's. We had never heard of it and had no clue it's been hiding in the lower level of Barney's Beanery off Colorado Blvd. this whole time. The reviews made it sound like a dirty, smelly, dive bar with a lack luster tiki vibe. We were honestly all about it being so bad that it was good. At least for shits and giggles. We ran 2 miles before making our stop at Barney's. No cover charge. The hostess directed us to the stairs that led to Tiki B's. The bar was fairly empty except for a handful of other patrons. It was semi dark but there was sufficient lighting from the faux ocean windows decor and tiki lamps along the walls. The DJ was setting up for the evening's open mic night. No bathroom smells for us. We walked in with 20 plus people all ready to love/hate the place. We were served pitchers of water right away while we perused the menu. The waitress clearly saw were had been running. Apologies for bringing in a sweaty crowd haha. Most of us ordered on to two drinks. A few people ordered food. We enjoyed our drinks, took a couple photos, and discussed our take on the place. Pleasantly surprised was the overall take away. We were a little disappointed that we didn't hate the place since we had expected the worst kind of dive bar. I rather liked it. I didn't have a mixed drink but others enjoyed them. I suspect the poor reviews are mostly from tiki fanatics. But us regular folks took it at face value and enjoyed ourselves. Bartenders were nice, attentive, and welcoming. The beers on tap were fairly priced. The menu I held was not sticky. It was a fun spot that you wouldn't expect to find in Old Pasadena, let alone underneath Barney's Beanery. I would come back with a big group for drinks and karaoke. I'm sure our run group will be taking over Tiki B's again in the future.

When we heard there was a tiki bar in Pasadena, loved instead Barney's Beanery no less, we knew we had to give it a try. Tbh, it's not the greatest tiki bar, but if you're looking for the tiki atmosphere and regular drinks in the Pasadena area, this is your place. Service was fast and friendly, but be advised that there's karaoke on Friday nights.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that Barney's held a secret oyster surprise in its belly (basement), an authentic tiki bar with a decent amount of "tiki-osity" and vibe. The drinks were delish, and priced accordingly as well as the steady hum of the clientele that lent to the retro-feel of a new location performing an age-old function, providing sustenance and lubrication for a new generation of consumers who like to look back...

What did I just walk into? I found myself in Old Town last Saturday. I came across this Tiki bar in the basement of Barneys. I was super excited, since I love Tiki. At first the floater lights breaking through the dark ambience and the Tiki greeting us in the entrance seemed cool. The plastic leaves and some cool puffer fish and bamboo in the distant walls felt cozy and hinted a tropical vibe. Unfortunately, the menu offers traditional tiki drinks like the Mai Tai and the ChiChi, but that is a horrible misleading LIE. The ingredients are all wrong. The drinks are falsely advertised and imposters of the real deal. NOT EVEN CLOSE! But, it doesn't end there. I can deal with a fun Karaoke vibe, even if they are playin random Hip Hop and Top 40 in what is supposed to be a Tiki vibes, but OH MAH GAWD! The crowd was DOUCHEEEE, disrespectful, and trashy and Drunk out of their @$$e$. Management was definitely not monitoring the consumption. The service was cold and lacked that friendly energy you expect from a true tiki bar, or any welcoming bar, for that matter. The tables were all cluttered with empty beer glasses and I wondered where the bar back or staff hiding. REALLY, BAD! So this tells me, people did not go for the tiki experience. They just wanted to get $#it faced. At one point one drunk pervert patron sitting in a table next to us disrespectfully licks his lips at my friend. . Thats when we knew, it was time to go. At this point Im assuming that the owners and consumers dont understand that TIKI is all about escapism and themed lounge experience. Not just tropical decorations and beers. We seriously felt like we walked into somebody's home basement tiki bar. We sat down to finish our beers and shortly after at around 12:30AM the lights turn on and the staff rudely tells us to leave. One after another. RUDE! Then our eyes adjusted and what seemed like a cool Tiki VIbe turned into another basement bar with a few cool tiki ornaments mixed with cardboard Tiki decorations you find at a party supply store. REALLY? So, if you are looking for a fun Tiki experience, stay away from this place. But, if you are looking for that frat party vibe where the drunk frat kids outnumber the ladies, this is the place! Quantity over Quality! I will say this though, The upstairs is clearly a sports bar. The service upstairs was actually better than expected for a sports bar. The staff behind the bar was friendly and on top of their game. Even if they did charge us $5 to walk into a sports bar.

I've been going to them more and more, and The Lucky Tiki was one I definitely had to try out. First off, I have to praise 1933 group because I have loved every single bar they have revitalized and this one is no different. In keeping with their MO, The Lucky Tiki is a speakeasy with a vintage vibe. I won't give away how to get in but let's just say, it's near the front of Highland Park Bowl. My husband and I didn't have a reservation, but we were able to put our name in and got seated about an hour or so later. I was amazed as soon as I walked in the door! It's just floor to ceiling decorated with everything tiki. So many fun details and even interactive elements that turn on when a particular drink was ordered. That was probably my favorite part honestly. We ordered the Tiki Diablo, which is a large tiki drink with a flaming volcano. And yes it does have an interactive element. It was really good. Very fruity and strong, but not overly so. Service was excellent. Our waitress was on it and even waited to make sure my husband was back from the bathroom before lighting our drink on fire. We didn't try any food this time, but a lot of people were ordering the Hawaiian pizza. Do with that what you may. Will definitely be back ti try more drinks and food. Was the perfect spot for a lively date night!

FYI this place requires reservations, yet they apparently do not honor reservations…read more I have friends coming into town from Greece, so I made a reservation because they love tiki but have no way of experiencing it in Greece, and so they even got aloha shirts to wear. So after having a reservation for weeks, I get a text from this place saying someone booked a private event so my reservation is cancelled. How about instead of accepting $$$ for a private event that will deny customers their reservation, they make the private event work around what is available? Terrible way of doing business, but I hope they get lots of $$$ and engagement for the privileged private event attendees.

It takes place mostly in their rear patio area and parking lot, but a good number of vendors were also in an adjacent air conditioned event room. They have a very small parking lot, but it was occupied by vendors during this event. Do not park in the parking lots of the adjacent businesses, as we were warned when entering the Tonga Hut that cars get towed regularly. There's plenty of street parking in the nearby neighborhood. Entering from the rear, there is a good sized covered patio with around eight benches. We went inside to check it out and grab a drink. The interior is fairly small with four good sized booths, a lounge area with a large J-shaped couch with several small tables, and around ten seats at the bar. It is dimly lit with some basic tiki décor, and has an old-school feel. They had a fixed cocktail menu for this event which is understandable. We stood in line at the bar for about ten minutes, got our drinks and went out to the patio. The bartender was friendly, and didn't seem flustered by the high volume of patrons. I had the Horned Beast O' The Celtic Sea (Oceanus Hibernicus Irish Malt, Jamacian Rum, House Made Falernum & Orgeat, Peach, Citrus, Dash of Cherry Heering, $13). She had the Leprechaun Grog (Three Rums, Lime, Grapefruit, Honey, Spice, Soda, $14). Both drinks were good, were served in souvenir plastic cups, and were a bargain at $13 to $14. If you ordered a drink containing Oceanus whiskey, the bartender gave you a gold coin and you could exchange it with the Oceanus representative on the patio for a free T-shirt. Durango Tacos was setup near the rear entrance for food. We had four tacos (two carne asada and two veggie), and they were good and reasonably priced. This was the first tiki marketplace we have attended. There were around twenty vendors with a good assortment of art work, tiki mugs, tiki clothing, tiki décor, and other miscellaneous items. I purchased a few nice tiki shirts which were a steal at $20 and $25. The vendors and visitors were all very friendly and in a festive mood. We hung out for about ninety minutes and had a good time. We will return at some point to try their regular cocktail menu and see what it's like on a non-event night.

We got the PuPu platter for two, came out within minutes, I could spend the rest of my life eating that alone. The front of the building is a little vaguely marked, and the entrance has speakeasy vibes, which was a surprise. Upon walking in the front door, there is some tiki décor and a small counter in the rear. I remember thinking to myself "what the heck, this is it?". I checked in at the host stand on the left, and was handed me a boarding pass. She then led us through a hidden door behind what looked like a shipping crate. We were now in the real Broken Compass. The interior is a good size. The two-sided bar seats around a dozen. There is a lounge side of the bar that has two large booths along the wall, and another area with comfortable looking couches and lounge chairs. The main dining room has some tiki hut booths, and two sections of tables with half booth and half chair. The décor is pretty extensive with a good mix of pirate, nautical, and tiki themes. There is a lot of bamboo, thatch, rope, cargo netting, skulls and skeletons, port holes, octopus tentacles, jellyfish, tiki lights, and more. The ceiling is dark with various nautical and pirate markings, and even tied up ship sails overhead. The tiki hut booths have the parrots from the enchanted tiki room above them. Even the two restrooms are nautical themed, with beach and marine sounds playing. There is a lot of great décor to look at. We arrived around 2pm on a Sunday, so it wasn't very busy yet. By the time we left a few hours later, it was starting to get busy. We decided to sit at the bar. We started out with the buffalo cauliflower ($14) for an afternoon snack. The serving size was generous, and the buffalo sauce had a good tang. It was served with some sauces, and was surprisingly filling. A nice feature of the cocktail menu is that each drink displays one to three compass stars to indicate the strength of the drink. Their cocktails use a great variety of liquors including ones you don't often see. Many of the ingredients are made in-house. I started out with Chupacabra's Vacation (Demerara Rum, Jamacian Rum, Pomegranate Reduction, Cinnamon, Lime Juice, Bitters, two-star boozy rank, $17). It is served with a flaming lime on top and a little fire show. It was balanced with a light booziness, some light pomegranate flavor, and a cinnamon sprinkle on top. She started out with the Bittersweet Paradise (Jamacian Rum, White Rum, Campari, Passionfruit Syrup, Lemon, Lime, Pineapple, two-star boozy rank, $18). It didn't drink boozy at all, and was passion fruit forward, with light bitterness. My second cocktail was the Bermuda Dune Buggy (Gin, Overproof Rum, Kumquat Liqueur, Cassis, Orange, Lime, Bitters, two-star boozy rank, $18). It had a very unique garnish of a Chartreuse infused gummy which was delicious. The drink was nicely balanced, and didn't really drink boozy even with overproof rum in it. They have a rotating monthly cocktail and she tried the Tropic Like It's Hot (Coconut Washed Lemongrass Infused Rum, Mango, Lemon, Coconut Water, Amaro, $17) which was created by one of our bartenders Daniel. It was served in a Spam can and was light and refreshing with a nice pop of fruit at the start, and a very nice coconut flavor. We enjoyed sitting at the bar and had great conversation with our bartenders Daniel and Monica. They also provided excellent service. Broken Compass supports payment with the InKind app which gives you 20% back (10% on Friday and Saturday) in InKind cash. We had a really great time here, and the drinks, food, décor, and atmosphere were excellent. I purchased a Hork (Horse-shaRK) mug for $50 to bring home as a souvenir. We would definitely return again when in the area.
