I can't believe I just barely checked out Gold Line. DJ, Producer and founder of Stones Throw Records, Peanut Butter Wolf, opened this bar several years ago next to the Stones Throw office to create a space where DJs can pull vinyl from the walls of his vast collection and throw them on the deck for everyone to enjoy. Not only is there a wide variety of music, but they carry an impressive amount of top tier Japanese whisky, bourbon, rye, scotch, gin, mezcal, tequila, vodka, rum and more! They can make just about any cocktail, but they have some great highballs and signature drinks ranging from $14-$20. I tried the Goldliner, Japanese Old Fashioned and Nitro Espresso Martini and they were all delicious and well balanced. The bartenders are all really cool and service was pretty quick. The disco ball in the lounge area, the wall of vinyl and old photos of iconic artists give retro vibes. My friend DJ'd the night I stopped in and played nothing but 45s of classics for 3 hours. The vibe of this cocktail bar was so cool. They have so many records lined up against the wall, and there's someone always playing records and switching out records. I loved the cocktail that I got (unfortunately I can't remember which drink I got but I'm sure they're all pretty fantastic), and the vibes are top notch. This was the first bar my friends and I bar hopped to that night, and it set the mood for the rest of the night. I loved how vibey and dark the bar was, and it felt very intimate. read more

Drinks at this place are good, Bee's Knees especially. Service was as good as it could've been for how busy it was. The vibe here is fun and a great place to hang with a group. You may have to wait awhile to sit down if you're here on a Friday or Saturday night, can also be loud and it's kind of difficult if you want to have a conversation. read more

Stopped by Gold Line Bar in Highland Park for drinks with some friends and had a fun time overall. This place definitely lives up to its reputation as a vinyl-spinning bar -- they had The Black Keys playing on vinyl the night we went, which really added to the atmosphere. The space itself has a really cool, vintage feel with walls of records and dim lighting that makes it feel cozy but lively at the same time. The only downside was how packed it was -- it took a while to get drinks and it was hard to move around at times. That said, the drinks we did get were excellent, well-balanced, and worth the wait. Goldline has a very intimate and chill vibe. I went on a Tuesday so it wasn't too crowded, but it was perfect for hanging out and listening to the DJ. They had a wide selection of cocktails and the ones we got (mezcal & tequila) were really tasty. I would recommend checking it out. read more

Came in on a friday night and it was busy! I really enjoyed the music. I opted for a basic tequila pineapple instead of a signature drink. It was very strong, $50 for 3 drinks and tip. I would come again in hopes of finding a spot to sit. read more

The drinks and atmosphere were great. However we started a tab and they took our cc cards. We discovered the next day that multiple unauthorized charges were made to both my and my husband's cc cards hours, after we had left the bar. We closed the tabs out at one price and then saw more charges on our accounts later. Maybe it was a mistake, but to both of us?? Also when we called the bar several times the following day and days after, no one answered. Thankfully our financial institutions reversed the charges. This happened back in August so hopefully things have changed since. If you go there, don't leave your card to open a tab. Pay cash or close the tab immediately. Furthermore most places don't even take your card anymore to start a tab. They run it then give it back to you. read more

Visited Gold Line with Friends, bar hopping a little bit in the trendy area of Highland Park (on Fig). The bar is very hip, and is known for having a great vinyl music collection. So first check, good music and vibes. Second check I got a Japanese Highball and was very good. The place was a little crowded, but my friends and I were still able to find seating in the back. Please don't turn on the heater when it's extraordinarily crowded. The smells get worst. A little pricey if you ask me. No real dress code. I'm okay with this. Very popular spot for dates and hanging out with a small group of friends. Ambience is dark and vintage. Ideal if you're ugly in the face like me. Everyone looks great in this lighting. The vinyl is also a standout feature of this establishment. However, the crowds can make this place unbearable if you come on a busy night, because there is no seating or standing room with such a narrow bar area. Drink prices are on the higher side, but that's LA for you. If you can avoid the peak hours, I recommend Gold Line. read more

STORY-TIME: I ordered my friend and I an espresso martini. However, I was uncertain to open my tab even though my friend did. I was like you know what I'll open a tab too. The bar tender said something around the lines "Oh, I cannot open your tab and you might get a fraud notification" (when he tried to open my tab). I was so confused. So since I couldn't "open" a tab I closed my tab. As soon as I got my drink and sat down I got a FRAUD notification on my phone. I was shocked. Supposedly, to open a tab it's $50 dollars and supposedly you will receive your money back. What was not right was right before that $50 dollar "open" tab fee charge. I was charged $629 dollars from a non-located area. Hmm... They do not INFORM THE PEOPLE PROPERLY about the $50. PLEASE, LOOK OUT FOR FRAUD BARTENDERS. ALSO SINCE I HAD TO CLOSE MY CARD I HAD TO CALL THE BANK. SO I WENT TO THE FRONT OF THE BAR TO CALL THE BANK. THE BARTENDER WHO TOOK MY ORDER SURPRISINGLY WALKED OUTSIDE WHILE I WAS ON THE PHONE. Love the ambiance here, they have great vinyl djs. My friend and I came here after dinner at Checker Hall. We had a $120 tab and calculated a 20% tip. As my friend and I were splitting the bill between cash and card a female bartender who hadn't served us all night walked up and looked at the computer to see the tip we were leaving, not knowing a portion was being paid cash. For some odd reason she felt the need to remind us it was a $120 tab with an attitude like we weren't tipping enough. At the end is a guy spinning records and the flavor of the night was Funk. The drinks were good, but I was surprised they didn't have cranberry. I'd definitely go back despite the bill for the drinks but your paying for the ambiance and the killer tunes. Incredible design and audio build. You just have to see it. I walked in a Zernell and Tim Zawada were queuing up to spin. Always a good sign. The drinks were excellent. I have no idea if there is food. The service was good for how busy it was. Vibes through the roof. A friend mentioned he didn't like this place because it was too loud, but that was not the case on my weeknight visit. Will absolutely be back on my next visit to LA. read more

The drinks were good, the ambiance is chill and the music was well above average. My thanks to the djs. The bartender was very kind, very prompt and had a welcoming demeanor. My one issue is the sound. Killer Macintosh amps, great Altec speakers and a hell of a vinyl collection, buuut the room is an echo chamber, the acoustic panels are far too thin and not in the right places to dampen the boom from the speakers, which are pointing at a brick wall. Small happy hour menu, but the drinks were good and reasonable for LA and the alcohol was not just well on happy hour, ie, they had Empress in one of the happy hour drinks which is a top shelf gin. Not like I felt ignored or disrespected.. but just bare minimum interaction approach. Popped back in later in the night, different people, same too cool for school demeanor.
