Cafe Santorini is a rooftop restaurant in a brick building in Old Pasadena. You can access from street level via stairs or elevator. Its also right across the street from a pay parking lot. We came here for lunch on between visits at the Kidspace Museum. The food is a blend of Greek and Turkish cuisine and is overall outstanding. Our picky 6yo son normally only eats yellow-white saffron basmati rice but he enjoyed the brown basmati rice from the chicken kabob. The chicken looked very basic and dry with grill marks but surprise - it turned out to be one of the juiciest chicken thighs ever. 5 stars for the chicken kabob. Other excellent dishes are the pear-walnut salad, giant puffy pita bread, and hummus. Wife went for the seafood cioppino with its amazing tomatoey broth perfect for dipping bread. read more

This came recommended by a friend of mine and we came here with another mutual friend. Very cute Italian/Greek restaurant. The entire restaurant is on the second floor so as soon as you open the door you're going upstairs. They have an open bar and plenty of indoor and outdoor/patio seating. Patio area has cute lighting and every table is freshly set with clean linen and table setting. The three of us ordered a bottle of wine to share and were able to try a couple samples before making our decision. Great recommendations on the wine - which I appreciate. We then ordered an appetizer to share which was very tasty. And our entrees were great too. I ordered the vodka pasta dish and I ate every single bite, it was delicious! My friends also commented on how delicious their entrees were. Our server was kind and great overall. I couldn't help but notice though that a couple other parties (who were a couple parties of two, and seated after us) were served before us, and left before us. Obviously I know our food coming out later than usual had nothing to do with our server, but what I did notice was how our server never checked on us after our meals were served. Our server walked past our table several times (checking on multiple tables next to us and even re-setting tables next to us) and didn't even make eye contact to check on any non verbal cues. I finally had to call the server by name (after about 30 minutes had passed since all our meals were done) before getting a dessert menu and then again for the check. I was pleasantly surprised with some of my expectation being exceeded. We had a medium sized group, and came here for a birthday dinner. There was hummus provided for most dishes which was very nice. I had the chicken kebob, which was surprisingly juicy; I'm too used to burnt and dry white meat chicken breast but that's not the case here at all. I also appreciate how many pieces were given. I wish there was an extra pepper and onion, but otherwise a great dish and it's what they're known for. Also had the clams linguini, which was not bad. It's got good garlic flavor, those it could use with some more clams to provide some more of the clam flavor in the sauce. Honestly one of the best meals we've had in the LA region in months. Celebrating our anniversary we walked up the quiet staircase, arriving into a warm inviting dining room/bar/kitchen and felt immediately at home. The host and the owner greeted us and after a brief visit to the restroom we were seated at our table on the balcony/terrace. Alex, our waiter greeted us and swiftly brought back 2 glasses of prosecco and water. We comfortably eased into an order of fried smelts and a shared pear salad. Immediately we realized we had found a gem. The food is simple, pure and honest. We imagined a future visiting sitting with an order of these smelts and a few beers watching a proper Serie A Fútbol match. After an impulsive order of fresh pita bread(highly recommended) our main courses arrived. Grilled branzino and the Lamb shank. These dishes elevated to a simple perfection with the complex flavors of dried fruit, almonds and couscous accompanying a confidently prepared lamb. A robust California Cabernet provided the perfect compliment to this old world classic. The branzino was glazed and touched respectfully with lemon and grilled to a perfect gentle shimmer. This is the best fish we've had in years. Clearly a new favorite, we enjoyed a surprise piece of flourless chocolate cake with espresso and cappuccino. The staff accommodated us, and gave us a choice of inside or outside seating, based on which was best for the baby, Everyone, baby included, loved the food and atmosphere. Came here last week with a few buddies. The food was great, and our waiter was excellent. Unfortunately, the host completely killed the vibe before dinner even started. We were the very first group there right when they opened. The host/manager asked if we had a reservation, and when we said no, he asked for our name and phone number "for the waitlist." What waitlist? The restaurant was completely empty besides us. That already felt unnecessary and ridiculous. Then after seating us, he came back about a minute later and told us we had to move because the table was "reserved for pictures." So you seat us in an empty restaurant just to immediately move us? Makes zero sense. Later during dinner, we noticed they were taking food photos for social media -- except they weren't even using the table they moved us from. So apparently we got moved around for no reason. To make things worse, the host kept looking over at our table throughout the meal, which just added to the awkwardness. Thankfully, our waiter saved the experience because he was genuinely great, and the food itself was very good. But the front-of-house experience was honestly lame and left a bad impression. This is a very nice little place in Old Town. The front is a little hard to find as it's in a little alley and the restaurant is upstairs. The group I was with ordered a good variety of the menu and everything was very good I had the branzino. It's was cooked very well -- the skin was nice and crisp and the meat was flavorful and juicy. I think it could have used a little something more ... Maybe a little more seasoning or maybe a little sauce on the side. The potatoes were also cooked well. I've only been here once. The food had a nice flavor. The appetizer of labneh was large- I feel like it should've been half the size for half the price- $17 for some yogurt is a bit steep. I had the Branzino... it was nice although the skin was soggy (so I picked it off) and so were the roasted potatoes underneath the fish. My husband had the lamb and the flavor was delicious. The lamb was a tiny bit dry but not too bad. Both dishes seemed like they had been made the day before and reheated. Chocolate brownie has a very nice rich flavor. Ambience is lovely. For years I've seen and heard how highly rated this place is. We had a Friday evening reservation. The restaurant is nice and all located on the second floor with an open lit up patio, which is really nice. Given it was a particularly warm evening, and the sun was still glaring, we opted to sit indoors. Unfortunately, they sat us at a table right by one of the doors to exit out. It was left open for the most part, given the wait staff used it to go in and out. I'm not complaining about the heat, but having a big suctioned gust of hot air hit me, my hair and my food that should've remained cold constantly was not a good experience. That being said, I did enjoy the ambiance & hustle & bustle of the diners, groups, and families dining alongside of us. The restaurant is nice, as I said, but our table was too small & the seat of our chairs, which were made of cloth, were disgustingly dirty and large black stains! Like a dirty restaurant carpet. The wait staff was meh. Not bad, but not helpful/great. Just alright. We mentioned how it was our first visit, a usual flag and opportunity for wait staff to give you an overview, fan favorites, and personal notes - nothing. Comment just fell flat. We had a couple of $19/glass cabs. Just alright and highly priced. But the waiter could not understand what I was ordering and had to have me eventually point it out on the paper menu. Not a big deal, but my point about this is that the wait staff is not exceptional like at other neighboring restaurants where the waiters are engaging, familiar with every aspect of their menu without looking at it and conduct themselves with a pride behind their service. This was "just get the job done" at minimum vibe. Let's move on to the food...which by the way wasn't timed carefully so this is where that small table became an issue...There were some promising highs, as we started with the incredible tasting hummus & puffy warm pita, fresh out of the oven. We opted to add the veggies to the dish for an extra $4 and they too were crispy, cold and fresh. We had fried calamari, unfortunately, that was rubbery - pass! Esp at the price. Since it was my first time here, I wanted to try the Greek salad. For me, it was wonderful. Rough chopped delicious vegetables and a slab of feta, with a delicious oily vinaigrette. My husband was disappointed, expecting an actual Greek salad with greens. To his point, this is something they should note on the menu, given we wanted to share it. For entrees, my husband got the beef kabob plate. He thought the rice was okay, but it was another pass for me. Fast food by my house makes one twice as good. Didn't expect that from this highly rated, highly priced place. His beef was alright. My chicken thigh was disgusting, I'm not being extra, I couldn't eat it. It tasted like microwaved grilled chicken tenders (held a tenders' shape even) previously frozen and had zero flavor. I was beyond disappointed! They added heavy char lines, which I normally would love as an added touch to flavorful chicken I'm accustomed to with this type of fare but since there was zero flavor from the chicken, the only flavor I got was burnt/char and that's not fun. The chicken meat consistency itself felt fake compressed chicken. Their bread pudding dessert was tasty and the coffees were alright. Our bill, with tip, was $270.00. Normally, for so many dishes drinks and courses, we wouldn't even flinch. But given half our starters went to the trash and my full entree went to the trash, the value for this place plummets, along with the lackluster service and seating issues. Oh, and one more thing. My husband and I were up the second half of the night with stomach aches! Will never return here, ever. read more

Stopped by here for a quick dinner bite. Man this was delicious. Parking is across the street from the restaurant. It's an upstairs restaurant with outdoor indoor but i love the outdoor vibe better than the i door specially with spring time. I had the fish it was delicious fresh classic branzino perfectly seasoned with a slice of lemon to squirt over the fish. i do however wish they should have had more of a different side than potatoes although the potato were good so i ordered a side of hummus to go with the fish . Service is nice i do feel like the tables are in close proximity and that is not so great because i can totally ease drop on the next table. We tried Cafe Santorini last night for dinner and had a great time. First off, customer service is 10/10. We were checked on by our waiter a few times and he was super friendly. I'm not a fan of waiters coming around to check on you a billion times (or the opposite & not come around at all), so it was perfect for me. We sat outside on the balcony and there was a nice ambiance. Bathrooms are kept up and super clean, and as a woman I love that there are no holes between the restroom doors. That is so important to me. I ordered the peach martini and it was yummy, with neither the peach nor the alcohol overpowering one another. I'm normally not a big fan of martinis, but I would get this again. We also ordered the paccheri al pesto e pollo and the orecchiette arrabbiata pastas and we were both pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed the arrabbiata. It was spicy, but not too much for people that might be a little more sensitive to spice. The flavor was amazing. This restaurant definitely went above and beyond by my standards and I would love to come back here to try more dishes. read more

I'll definitely be back! The restaurant was packed the night we went. I had a 6:30 reservation for two, but we were seated around 6:50 which honestly wasn't a big deal. We ended up outside on the terrace, and the vibe was really nice and intimate. It was a bit crowded, but understandable given how busy they were. they were clearly doing their best to accommodate everyone. Food: Wow. I was a little skeptical at first because I'm used to more traditional Mediterranean food and hadn't experienced it in a more upscale setting. I thought it might feel less authentic but I was so wrong. My partner and I went all out that night (aka we were pigs) We started with the borek (I love borek) and a mezze platter. The borek was good, slightly different from what I'm used to, but still enjoyable (and it's my partner's favorite dish that night) The mezze platter was generous; definitely enough for 4-5 people and included babaganoush, radish, feta, dolma, hummus, and tabbouleh. Everything tasted fresh, and it came with pita on the side. For entrées, I had the chicken kebab, which was amazing; I finished the entire plate. The chicken was so juicy. My partner ordered the steak frites with peppercorn sauce and absolutely loved it. And of course, we had to get dessert. We went with the bread pudding. I didn't get a chance to fully read the menu, but I'm pretty sure it had Baileys in it, which was nice. My only note is that it might have been better served in a bowl so more of it could soak in the sauce. Since it's sourdough, the outer crust was a bit too hard--even with the sauce, it was slightly tough to chew. But overall, still really good. Service was great, and the food came out quickly! I have been invited to this restaurant years ago on a date and somehow it never happened until two days ago which happened to be my 27th birthday!:-) ha ha. My son made reservations online for 7pm the evening of the 10th of January and we finally made that trip to Cafe Santorini. Walked in and the host by the name of Talia who had a pretty smile and a very upbeat, good energy walked us to our table that was already set. She was quick and prompt. Comes our server Irbin L with somewhat good demeanor and a bit confused about their own cocktails and the water situation. At first he said they are going to charge for water, I told him then I will just have regular water. He brought us our waters and then he wanted to know if we wanted something to drink. My son stayed with his water and I opted for an Apple Martini, he told me that they didn't have any, but can make me one that tasted like Apple Martini, then he suggested on a Peach Martini, so I got that thinking that I was actually having a Peach Martini that didn't taste anything like peach. It was so sour, more like a lemon drop or something else. It was too watery, and didn't give that kick. We ordered Pear & Walnut Salad to share,$18.00, my son ordered their Faroe Island Salmon on top of some lentils, $36.00 and I got Beef Brochette which came with Basmati Rice, 2 small grilled tomatoes, two small, long grilled shishito peppers, hummus and pita bread. Bread was not that fresh or hot, son liked his Salmon saying that it was made to perfection and I also liked my food. Food took like 45 minutes to come out. I understand the restaurant was super packed & busy since it was Saturday night. We didn't order any dessert thinking that few of their servers would bring out a small cake/ice cream/dessert type of something to blow my candle. He brought out this tiny flourless chocolate cake type of dessert which was literally 2 bites and put a single candle on it and wished me a Happy Birthday. Total came out to $145.10 including tax, tip and a kitchen wage surcharge(2.00%). I don't know what that was all about and noticed it once we got home. Anyway, for the amount of the food and portions that we got, it didn't make or break the bank. Restaurant had its own charm with bright lights, beautiful decor, plants, and other eclectic designs all around. No parking. Only street & metered parking in the front or anywhere else that you could find. Restaurant was SPOTLESS CLEAN, including all the bathrooms. They have stairs that takes you to their elegant, decadent, elaborate, classy looking restaurant but also have an elevator which we noticed later, on our way out. You have to go thru an alley to get to the restaurant. That's all I can say for now. Will I return back? Maybe, maybe not. It was a good 1st time experience. read more

Everything tasted so high quality and fresh. I also thought their pita bread was a stand-out with their fresh hummus with olive oil. I used to really love this place. It seems like their menu got smaller. They dont have pizza and very limited pasta selection. I also didn't realize that 90% of the items all have lemon or citrus in it. A family member couldn't eat lemon/lime, cheese or nuts. Be careful of the steak. Im not sure what sauce they used but someone started breaking out in hives. But we were unable to substitute some items out. There was alot of vegetarian food for another family member. The calamari salad was very good. The calamari was grilled perfectly. I also liked the grilled octopus but it was very lemony. The muscles in the ciopinno Santorini had very good bread. The mussels were pretty bad it tasted like ocean. We got the platter with humus,tabouleh,dolmades. Making it into a vegetarian pita sandwich was very good. The branzino and burrata were kind of plain. Branzino tasted mostly of lemon. I would not recommend this place if you have dietary//digestive sensitivity. Service was good. We kept getting ice refills but the waitress did disappear for a while after we ordered appetizers. Serving shellfish dinners with sand in them is entirely unacceptable. I ordered choippino and my daughter-in-law ordered linguini with clam sauce which both had sand in them. Yuck! Anyone who knows shellfish knows how to purge the sand out before cooking, This is a $$$ restaurant that our son chose to try for his birthday. Unacceptable. Period. read more
