    M1 Platter

The food was delicious and the ambiance was very nice. It was a lovely place to have a family lunch especially with the platter options which came out amazing! The reasoning behind not rating it as a five star experience, let me preface that I know that they were just opening for lunch at 12PM which our reservation was under so I completely understand. The staff seemed to be very overwhelmed with a lot of customers very quickly, there seemed to be no AC or fans which had a lot of guests fanning themselves, and our party had to ask multiple times for various things. But despite those criticisms I think it may be equated to simply being a very busy opening lunch. Again, the food was delicious, the staff were very courteous and friendly, I do feel that they just may benefit from having another server or possibly reshaping the way they check on the tables.

First time going to this place. Walked in around 4:30 and it was almost empty. Got the appetizer combo and beef tenderloin kabob with potatoes and salad. Appetizers were bland except for the yogurt. Beef was tender but not the best. Service was great though.

Got to say- the best kebabs and family style platter we had a in a very long time. The rice were flavorful including the chicken, lamb, the veggies. And on top of that, the restaurant was very nice including the host who brought bunch of crayons for kids to get occupied. Will visit again when we are in town.

    Khachapuri

First time here last night with my husband as I was craving Mediterranean food. Wow, the meal blew us away - absolutely the best we've had around town. Food we ordered: - Khachapuri (5/5): This is a must-get! I would describe it as a generous cheese-filled soft bread. Look at that cheese pull--how can this taste bad?! I finished my first slice in seconds. I could definitely eat more, but I didn't want to ruin my appetite for the entrée. It's best for sharing, as the two of us only ate half and took the rest home. - Beef Tenderloin Plate (5/5): I ordered it medium but then worried it might be overcooked or dry. Not at all! It came out so tender and flavorful, wow! I also loved the potatoes and butter rice that came with it. The potato was crispy on the outside but had a very creamy texture inside (how did they do that?!). I wish it came with more grilled veggies, though, as there was only a pepper and a tomato. The butter mixed in with the rice was heavenly! - Chicken Lule (4/5): My husband loved it--juicy and flavorful all around. I just don't prefer minced meat, but it was still delicious to me! Decor-wise, it was very modern and sleek looking. Pretty big space as well. We were surprised there were only a few tables occupied on a Friday night. I hope they get more and more business since the food is really amazing! Our server, William, was so attentive, friendly, and funny! We would definitely visit again!

This place was a BANGER! Came here for an early Mother's Day dinner. It was great, the restaurant is super clean airy and spacious. You wont feel crowded or feel like youre cooped up and cramped. We had a group of 6 and we ordered 2 humus appetizer combos, 2 khachapuris and 1 large kebab combo and it was plenty of food for the 6 of us. The kebab plate and rice was super good it had beef lule, chicken lule, rack of lamb, filet kebabs, chicken breast kebabs all of the grilled meats were very juicy and well seasoned. the platter also comes with a whole mess of grilled tomatoes, onions and peppers. It comes out on a massive platter. The khachapuri is not your usual cheesy egg bread boat like it is at other places that serve it (georgian or armenian restaurants), this khachupuri looks just like a pizza, but it is damn good with the perfect amount of cheese to bread ratio (although you dont get to mush an egg yolk around the cheese) Its hella good, but in all reality youre getting a cheese pizza not a khachapuri. I would not get the hummus appetizer sampler, its not bad but its not good either and its tiny af, this is not their specialty skip it!. The wines were reasonably priced and they were tasty. I'm kind of shocked at how empty the place was when we went, there was only like 4 tables occupied on a saturday night at 6pm (i know senior citizens dinner but still, its saturday before mothers day!). The staff was super friendly and they were very accommodating, as we had little children in our group and had to move stuff around, but they were on it they had coloring books and crayons (s os this place is family friendly too!) We brought our own cake, and they didn't charge us for plating or cutting it for us and providing the utensils. Top notch service! My only gripe about this place is that they play this insipidly boring euro-house soundtrack the entire time. I will be back for sure, i think i'll just ask them to change the music a little.

Thank you to our waitress Alina and the staff at LavShash. Everything was SO GOOD and I wish I could've eaten more. The Khachapuri was our favorite and the potatoes were seasoned perfectly with garlic and dill. We also enjoyed singing along to the music playing overhead and then as we were wrapping up, there was live music starting. Glad to have leftovers to go home with too. Can't wait to revisit this meal tomorrow or maybe later tonight. LOL

One of Old Town Pasadena's / Colorado Street's BEST kept secrets! LAVSHASH Kebab Restaurant has exceptional, personable service and serves up some of the best kebab and chicken soup in SoCal! The classy, modern interior is inviting and clean, and there is a heated patio, too! Ample parking is available in the nearby city structures.

New spot in town ! Let's try it

Came here the first month of opening. Place is really nice. staff is very nice. They give you lemon mint water that is a plus. We got a sharable dish. Its not what you would get at any other kabab restaurant. Its was good But not great. The beef was tuff, Chicken was okay. Hummus is very grainy, was not a fan of it. The best thing we got was the bread with cheese. I cant say ill be going again. Maybe the flavors are just not for me. But very nice place

    Greek salad, complimentary bread
    Amanda H.

My boyfriend and I have walked by here a handful of times and it's looked pretty packed! We made our way in for an early weeknight dinner and were seated immediately. It was a casual to nice spot with wine and house music. We started with sharing the Greek salad and bread. The bread was warm and fresh. The salad was the perfect balance of fresh veggies, olive oil, and oregano. It was topped with fresh feta. My boyfriend had the kebab plate with potatoes. He raved about the potatoes being perfectly crisp and the portion size being just right. The lamb was a little rare for me but it paired perfectly with the onions and bell peppers on the side.

"Complimentary" bread and cold baba ganoush
    Melissa R.

What a disappointment! I ordered baba ganoush as an appetizer. No pita bread or chips were provided. I was given 3 small pieces of bread and was told that it was on the house. The baba ganoush was served ice cold, like it came straight from the refrigerator. At other Mediterranean restaurants I've frequented, it is served at room temperature or warm. I had to ask for olive oil because none was provided. For my main course, I ordered the special of osso bucco w/polenta and vegetables. The polenta was very good. I'll give them that. The "vegetables" were just carrots. The sauce was tasty however the osso bucco was tough. I tried pushing through and eating the beef because the polenta and sauce were good but after a few bites decided that the meal was too much work to eat. I told the waitress who apologized and asked if they could remake the meal. I said yes and waited 20 mins and the plate did not return. At that point, I'd had enough. I told the waitress that I did not want the meal. Osso bucco takes 2-3 hours to make well. I don't understand why it would take 20 mins to recreate the meal. There had to be a pot of osso bucco ready to serve. I understand the polenta takes time however that was not expressed to me at all. The waitress came to me with a check for the full meal and told me the management would not comp or discount my meal. It was my last night in Pasadena before flying back home and I'm sorry I didn't order the kebabs. That was my second mistake after ordering the baba ganoush. Don't order the special. Order what they're known for. Oh well. The setting is nice and the wine was good. That is all! Edited in response to the owners comment. I did not eat half the meal. That is a lie.

    Chicken Lule plate
    Robyne K.

What a gem! Delicious food, huge portions, incredible service and immaculate atmosphere. We sort of stumbled on this place and gave it a chance. I had the chicken lule plate and my sister ordered beef lule (like Persian koobideh). So good! Baba Ghonoosh and bread basket are not to be missed.

The food was delicious especially the grilled veggies and lamb. The AC was not working and it was 98 degrees in Pasadena. It was very unpleasant in the restaurant and really put a damper on our early dinner. The waitress made no mention of the AC not working and we had to ask for more ice for our drinks as it was melting so fast. I'm not sure if they just don't use their AC or if it was broken. I would not come back here on a warm day.

They're family owned and operated and had a bunch of yummy sounding options. I got their falafel, dolmas, cheese and meat boreg, chicken shawarma wrap, filet mignon and chicken thigh combo plate, and baklava to try. This was my first time ever trying falafels, dolmas, and boregs and wow. The falafel had a Fun crunchy outside with a crumbly yet not dry inside and full of aromatic flavors. The dolmas were really good too. Moist and herby. The boregs kinda reminded me of empanadas in both flavors and textures from the crisp fried outer pastry to savory fillings. The chicken shawarma wrap was stuffed with tender marinated chicken, fries, a bit of tomato and pepper and schmearing of creamy garlicy spread, and came with a side of refreshing cucumber yogurt salad. The best part was when that pita soaked up all the other juices of the chicken to make it even more flavorful. The meats in the combo plate had a nice char, were super savory, flavorful, well seasoned but were a bit overcooked and dry. But that's ok cuz that's where the super flavorful dips came in. There was the refreshing cucumber salad, smooth creamy nutty hummus, and pungent garlicy sauce that paired perfectly with everything. It also came with rice, an herby bright tabouleh salad, pickled turnips and crunchy fresh onions. The baklava was MASSIVE and was a bit dry and hard but had plenty of crisp pastry layers, crunchy nuts, was amazingly sweet and cinnamony. Overall this place is pretty good. Boreg $14 Falafel $8 Dolma $7 Chicken shawarma wrap $17 Combo beef filet and chicken thigh $28 Baklava $4

There were quite a number of unusual items and I had no idea what type of food or flavor to expect. When the waitress returned, I was able to ask her questions about what I should order. She had great suggestions that would give me a best example of their unique food and flavors. I decided on one Chicken Kabob and one Chicken Koobideh. Each of them came with a choice of soup or salad. I chose one of each. Barley soup with the chicken and Greek salad for the beef. It took about 20 minutes or so to get my meal to go. They had a number of occupied tables. When I got home I carefully unpacked what I had ordered. I was eager to try everything at once, but decided to start with the soup. Barley soup was filled with barley and had great flavor. I decided to add a little bit of kick by dropping in some hot sauce. The side salad was impressive. Fresh greens, tomatoes, broccoli, carrots, and cucumbers. A little squeeze of lemon with all it needed. No extra dressing needed. Both the chicken and beef skewers had a great grilled aroma and were delicious. They held their shape even without actual skewers. They both tasted just as good cold the next day as they did warm when I first got them home. There was an abundance of rice included since this was a dinner order. It also had great flavor. It was fresh and had great seasoning. A bunch of condiments were included in a separate bag for all the items. I look forward to coming back and trying a number of the other items on their unique menu.

The portion of meat was equally impressive. I was still afflicted with recent dental work so I had to eat slowly and carefully. Their food is very crushable if not for that. They also quarter the pita bread which allows easier dipping or making mini wraps. I had a number of questions concerning their menu and the gentleman at the register was very helpful in giving me suggestions of different dishes I might enjoy. As I sat down to wait for my order, a staff member brought over a small salad and a small bottle of water for me to enjoy while I was waiting. I found out that the salad was a shirazi salad. It was bright and refreshing. The lemon and olive oil dressing was perfect along with the chopped onions, marinated cucumber, tomatoes, and parsley. Enjoyable! The Greek salad with chicken had a great flavor. There were large chunks of lightly fried chicken pieces, with fresh cucumbers, feta cheese, olives, lettuce, onions, with their special olive and lemon dressing. Went for my bf's bday celebration & it was such an outstanding experience!…read more The service was incredibly friendly and welcoming, they were super attentive and accommodating. The food was SO good and fresh. Get the steak frites!!!! It was super tender and flavorful. The Greek salad was also light and refreshing. The chicken kebab plate was honestly just okay, and the hummus and Pita bread was solid. The star of the show was the borek flaky bread appetizer and the steak. The patio seating outside was nice and a vibe. I loved it here !!!

Food - some real tasty & some beyond poor and unacceptable…read more Service - meh. Not bad, definitely not great, like some of the neighboring restaurants. Ambiance - okay. For years I've seen and heard how highly rated this place is. We had a Friday evening reservation. The restaurant is nice and all located on the second floor with an open lit up patio, which is really nice. Given it was a particularly warm evening, and the sun was still glaring, we opted to sit indoors. Unfortunately, they sat us at a table right by one of the doors to exit out. It was left open for the most part, given the wait staff used it to go in and out. I'm not complaining about the heat, but having a big suctioned gust of hot air hit me, my hair and my food that should've remained cold constantly was not a good experience. That being said, I did enjoy the ambiance & hustle & bustle of the diners, groups, and families dining alongside of us. The restaurant is nice, as I said, but our table was too small & the seat of our chairs, which were made of cloth, were disgustingly dirty and large black stains! Like a dirty restaurant carpet. The wait staff was meh. Not bad, but not helpful/great. Just alright. We mentioned how it was our first visit, a usual flag and opportunity for wait staff to give you an overview, fan favorites, and personal notes - nothing. Comment just fell flat. We had a couple of $19/glass cabs. Just alright and highly priced. But the waiter could not understand what I was ordering and had to have me eventually point it out on the paper menu. Not a big deal, but my point about this is that the wait staff is not exceptional like at other neighboring restaurants where the waiters are engaging, familiar with every aspect of their menu without looking at it and conduct themselves with a pride behind their service. This was "just get the job done" at minimum vibe. Let's move on to the food...which by the way wasn't timed carefully so this is where that small table became an issue...There were some promising highs, as we started with the incredible tasting hummus & puffy warm pita, fresh out of the oven. We opted to add the veggies to the dish for an extra $4 and they too were crispy, cold and fresh. We had fried calamari, unfortunately, that was rubbery - pass! Esp at the price. Since it was my first time here, I wanted to try the Greek salad. For me, it was wonderful. Rough chopped delicious vegetables and a slab of feta, with a delicious oily vinaigrette. My husband was disappointed, expecting an actual Greek salad with greens. To his point, this is something they should note on the menu, given we wanted to share it. For entrees, my husband got the beef kabob plate. He thought the rice was okay, but it was another pass for me. Fast food by my house makes one twice as good. Didn't expect that from this highly rated, highly priced place. His beef was alright. My chicken thigh was disgusting, I'm not being extra, I couldn't eat it. It tasted like microwaved grilled chicken tenders (held a tenders' shape even) previously frozen and had zero flavor. I was beyond disappointed! They added heavy char lines, which I normally would love as an added touch to flavorful chicken I'm accustomed to with this type of fare but since there was zero flavor from the chicken, the only flavor I got was burnt/char and that's not fun. The chicken meat consistency itself felt fake compressed chicken. Their bread pudding dessert was tasty and the coffees were alright. Our bill, with tip, was $270.00. Normally, for so many dishes drinks and courses, we wouldn't even flinch. But given half our starters went to the trash and my full entree went to the trash, the value for this place plummets, along with the lackluster service and seating issues. Oh, and one more thing. My husband and I were up the second half of the night with stomach aches! Will never return here, ever.
