This place is a REAL WINNER! My son brought me here today for lunch. Wasn't sure that I was in the mood for Mediterranean but I agreed to go. So glad I decided to have lunch there! The food is absolutely delicious, the portions are generous, the prices are very reasonable and the guy who took our order was so kind and helpful. I couldn't believe how flavorful everything was! I got the chicken Shawarma and now I won't go anywhere else for Mediterranean. I live in Glendale so I've got a lot of Mediterranean restaurants around me; I've been to a handful of them. This is my first time trying a mom and pop's Mediterranean spot. So let's see if they're pretty good eh or ew. They're family owned and operated and had a bunch of yummy sounding options. I got their falafel, dolmas, cheese and meat boreg, chicken shawarma wrap, filet mignon and chicken thigh combo plate, and baklava to try. This was my first time ever trying falafels, dolmas, and boregs and wow. The falafel had a Fun crunchy outside with a crumbly yet not dry inside and full of aromatic flavors. The dolmas were really good too. Moist and herby. The boregs kinda reminded me of empanadas in both flavors and textures from the crisp fried outer pastry to savory fillings. The chicken shawarma wrap was stuffed with tender marinated chicken, fries, a bit of tomato and pepper and schmearing of creamy garlicy spread, and came with a side of refreshing cucumber yogurt salad. The best part was when that pita soaked up all the other juices of the chicken to make it even more flavorful. The meats in the combo plate had a nice char, were super savory, flavorful, well seasoned but were a bit overcooked and dry. But that's ok cuz that's where the super flavorful dips came in. There was the refreshing cucumber salad, smooth creamy nutty hummus, and pungent garlicy sauce that paired perfectly with everything. It also came with rice, an herby bright tabouleh salad, pickled turnips and crunchy fresh onions. The baklava was MASSIVE and was a bit dry and hard but had plenty of crisp pastry layers, crunchy nuts, was amazingly sweet and cinnamony. Overall this place is pretty good. Fire!! This is the kind of spot that checks all my boxes for a place I would regularly return to for lunch. Food is high quality and flavorful. It's affordably priced for the portions you get. And restaurant itself feels super clean, homey, relaxed. Perfect place to sit for the afternoon and enjoy a nourishing meal. The young woman who assisted us was kind and attentive. My sister and I came in for afternoon lunch on a weekend and split a lulu kebab combo plate and a Greek salad. The portions were perfect. We each had two lulu kebabs to ourselves, plenty of rice, sauce, and bread. The salad was ginormous. There was enough leftover to pack a complete lunch for the next day. My fave kind of meal prep!! I truly love this little mom and pop spot in North Pas. The service is always quick and friendly. The food is piping hot, fresh and plentiful. My favorite go to plate is the beef lule kebab. The chicken lule kebab is just as good too. The seasoning is on point and the meat is fresh and juicy. The plate is $22 and it comes with 4 pieces of lule piled on top of some basmati rice and 2 sides of your choice. I usually get the house made hummus and a side salad. It's a good amount of food. They are a good shareable size, I would recommend to order these The Lamb Chops Plate was good, the lamb chops were flavorful, I wish there was more of a sear to render the fat since some parts were chewy. The pita bread is pretty basic, lastly I wish they substituted the mountain of rice by like half the amount and in exchange added and extra lamb chop for the price. But the rice and lamb chops both tasted great, and I would overall recommend to order it. I would also recommend getting the house salad as your side, it was full of flavor and very refreshing. It's on the shoddier side of Lake St so not huge parking but enough on the street and a back lot. Ordered pick up. Highlights are the babaganoush (mutabal) and the rice! The meat was spiced and flavored very well but definitely dryer than you would want We got the Beef and Chicken lulu to try. A much more value joint (two skewers vs one) for grilled Mediterranean skewers compared to other places nearby. Would go again since it's so close and has some really great rice and mutabal. I'm so happy Abu opened up in this area of Pasadena. There aren't many good restaurants here but Abu is definitely the exception. The beef lule was bursting with spices and flavor, while the filet mignon is tender with a good sear. The tangy and fresh tabouleh paired perfectly with the meat. The goreg was crispy on the outside while the filling was juicy with a hint of cinnamon. There is plenty of seating for casual gatherings as well. So happy to find this Mediterranean food in Pasadena. They're familiar with gluten free. The falafel is gluten free! and it's so crispy. I have hard time finding gluten free falafel and the one that's authentic and gluten free. The meat is so juicy and quite big portion so you can order a combo plate for sharing if you'd like. Everything tastes so fresh. They give you a complimentary small container of garlic sauce that comes with the plate. They seem busy which is a good sign but they're also friendly. Have seen (maybe) one of the owners, greeting the customers and asked how they're doing and how the food was. This place used to be U-Pick. You can see the old sign of U-Pick that's still visible from the parking lot area. Unfortunately, the pita bread as room temperature. The Lamb kebab was a bit chewy but if you get pieces with a lot of connected tissue, it becomes super chewy. I had to spit out a few bites into a napkin. Filet mignon was even more chewy but that's probably because they made it to rare. Should've been on me to ask them to cook it longer.
