    veal special $68
    Jeffrey L.

Came here to celebrate a birthday for lunch, and what a lunch it was. Started off with some complimentary house bread that you can add olive oil and balsamic to. Ordered a bottle of Cabernet and off we were. I had the server recommended veal special ($68) which had an amazing mushroom sauce. I think this was the clear winner in comparison to the ribeye steak the birthday boy had. Though $68 was the most expensive dish compared to the rest of the menu, and quite a hefty price tag for a lunch, the veal exceeded my expectations. The mushroom sauce complimented it so well, I will admit I can't help but think that was a really good chop. The decor inside is very old fashioned, dimly lit. Service was really good, and I'm torn giving this restaurant 4 stars instead of five, but I can't see this as a 5 star must go to restaurant. I would likely rate it 4.4 stars. The spacing between tables is pretty small, I imagine if it was incredibly busy, you could hear every conversation.

We haven't been here in years and sort of forgot about it. But we were taking some out of town friends for dinner, and an in town friend recommended it. So glad we went! We all loved our meal. The restaurant has a big outside patio, several smaller offshoot rooms but we were seated in the fun main room. Our server was incredible...so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We brought our own wine (only $15 corkage fee!) and although they have a great wine list, we were happy it was an option. We started with a delicious beef carpaccio, wonderful crisp Caesar salad, and the spinach, pear and pecorino salad. Mains were an amazing cacio e pepe which has added saffron, lamb bolognese with cool garganelli pasta, duck ragu with parpadelle, and the bistecca della Fiorentina. The pastas were cooked perfectly and were so good! And the steak was a win too. All in all, a very delightful meal! We won't wait as long to visit again.

Came here unexpectedly with my 83yr old friend Bob. It's always tough cause well he's 83 lol. The Hostess-sat us outside as it was perfect SoCal weather, and we arrived just before the lunch rush. Bob really wanted spaghetti and I am glad we came here. Lots of parking behind the building. The waiters were attentive and polite. The drinks were brought out quickly and the service was fantastic. Dining with an elder can be challenging yet the staff were patient and not condescending. The salads were brought out , along with bread and everything was evenly spaced out. The Ravioli was delicious and Bob enjoyed his spaghetti. The restaurant is very nice and I wish I'd taken more photos. Great food and excellent service, what more can you ask for

The seafood risotto was incredibly fresh -- each bite bursting with the delicate flavors of the ocean. Perfectly cooked rice, rich and savory with just the right creaminess, paired beautifully with tender shrimp, scallops, and calamari. The dish was both comforting and elegant. The service was amazing, attentive without being intrusive, and the ambiance made the whole dining experience truly enjoyable. My son absolutely enjoyed his Ravioli and we shared the Branzino. I highly suggest that you order the Branzino.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this cozy Italian spot for a holiday party and it was a great experience. The ambiance was warm and inviting, perfect for a holiday party where we were seated in our own room The service was excellent, our waiter was attentive and made sure our glasses were always full and that we had everything we needed throughout the evening. The food was served as a set menu for the event. The carpaccio was amazing. The filet mignon was a bit too peppery for my taste. The restaurant has their own dedicated parking area at the back of the restaurant. This is a huge plus, especially given how challenging parking can be in busy Pasadena.

Celestino is a cute little Italian restaurant on Lake in old town Pasadena with a small private parking lot in the back. It can be hard to find if you're not looking for it, as we have driven up and down Lake for years and never noticed this restaurant until we were referred by a family member to try out our for my husband's birthday tonight. Pros: The menu is inexpensive in comparison to other restaurants of is kind in the area and seems like it's been here for decades. They have a variety of homemade pasta dishes and the staff are very friendly and give you a full rundown of the specials which are not listed on the menu. I actually went with the special ravioli stuffed with beef in a mushroom sauce. My husband LOVED his seafood pasta (linguini mare) Cons: My dish was kind of bland, needed more salt although it had a nice presentation. The parking situation is a little weird where it looks like it's a $6 plus 50 cents service fee to park but then once inside there are many signs that say complimentary parking for Celestino patrons, kind of confusing. The bread that was brought out was $3 and we didn't actually order it, but we did enjoy it. I just wish it was something you have to ask for if you are going to be charged for it. Overall it was a decent dinner and I'm glad my husband chose well for his birthday meal, perhaps I will try something else next time and have better luck.

Background On Visit: Year after year after year, Celestino would participate at the Masters Of Taste Food Festival. Thought to myself that I would finally come into the shop to try out their food at the restaurant. Credit Cards: They're accepted. Restrooms: They have restrooms available. Location/Parking: Free parking on Hudson! There's also meter parking up front along S. Lake Ave.. Ambiance/Decor: Ambiance was okay, but wished the lighting was better. Had to use my cell phone's flashlight to see the menu. It was quite loud inside also. So I had to project my voice higher when I was talking. Service: Service wasn't great. Waiter didn't give a heads up that there was a splitting fee and told us that there is free refills on bread, but in actual reality, it was not. We ordered another order of bread thinking it was free and refillable. Also, it took a while to get our check. After seeing the check, I was fuming. We just paid the check and left without complaining to the staffer. Food For Thought: 1) Fruite De Mari: Thought the dish was good. The seafood was fresh and the sauce was quite addicting. I was having a great time layering the spaghetti on top of the bread that was ordered. 2) Eggplant Parm: No complaints about this dish. Celestino For Thought: Probably won't come back, but hope this review doesn't deter other from trying out the shop.

My extremely mediocre Bronzino I was very, very, very disappointed

So I'll start by saying I'm usually a very generous reviewer. We sat in the back as part of a larger group and I quite liked being away from the main room by the kitchen. The table had a couple starters bufallo mozzarella, tomato and arugula, calamari, arugula salad, and a pear, goat cheese and beet salad. Then for main course the table tried so many things I was privy to taste the Osso bucco with saffron risotto which was yummy, along with the pheasant both had a very home like taste, I however, had the whole Bronzino, which was pretty mediocre and unfortunately fairly fishy. The desserts were also subpar. Our server was OK but spoke very fast and we had a hard time catching what all the specials were . I might try the place again, but might is the keyword

A cozy Italian restaurant with friendly staff and good food. It's not mind blowing, but it's good. I've visited a few times over the course of 10 years. My most recent visit was last weekend, and I will say that they are consistent with the quality of their dishes and service. While a reservation never hurts, we've come on a busy Saturday night without one and had no issues being seated. The food comes out in a timely manner and the menu has a wide variety of options to choose from. Menu highlights: Spaghetti with meat sauce - my children loved it. Pumpkin Tortelloni- absolutely delicious. I love having it in the fall. Could do without: The meatballs with red sauce. A little bland, and undersized.

If you are looking for a pretty good Italian restaurant to eat at in Pasadena, this is definitely one of the places you should consider. While not the best in town, it's certainly not the worst. Across the street is Uovo which is, quite frankly, almost impossible to beat in my opinion. But this Italian restaurant has what Uovo does not: more variety. The service is also quite good and very attentive. I think what makes this restaurant stand out is that it is more traditional and Uovo is perhaps more modern Italian. The decor and atmosphere of the restaurant is perhaps showing its age but not to the point where it's a problem. In terms of recommendations, on this particular visit, I had the Lobster Linguine and my girlfriend had the Fettuccini with Duck ragu. Both were very good and I would order wither one again for sure. Can't say for sure either of these will be available in the future since they were specials.

    Yes

    Do they make wholewheat pasta?

I did not see any whole wheat pasta listed on the menu, so I would think not. But they are very nice people, so if you ask to bring it in to them, probably they would be happy to make it for you in the style of one of their pasta dishes.

There used to be. However after informing the waiter twice that we were vegan, my husband's and my dinners were served with cheese. When we pointed this out our dinners were remade... smaller, with less of the "good stuff" and completely tasteless.… Read more

Also, not to mention, the pasta is handmade in Bologna, Italy and shipped overnight in a temperature controlled cabin. They do this because Italian eggs are key to their pasta!! We actually tried to come here a long time ago, but the wait was so bad that we just gave up. My boyfriend has been to the Marina Del Rey location multiple times, so I didn't really have any expectations after our first attempt to come here. But There was no wait at all, and we got to sit right at the counter. I think it was the best seat in the house because we were right in front of the cheese wheel and got to watch the chefs cook everything fresh. The vibes inside the restaurant were great and the service was great too. As for the food, the yellowtail we ordered was alright. it tasted great but wasn't exactly mind-blowing. The pasta was the real highlight, specifically the carbonara, which was fantastic! I also tried the Amatriciana, but it was a little too salty for me, so I probably wouldn't order that one again. But my bf loved it!!! guanciale pieces were really tasty!! The parmigiano they use is incredible, though, and I'm already thinking of coming back just for their cheesy pasta. I'll definitely be sticking to any pasta that features their parmigiano next time. Overall, the ambiance was perfect and it was such a win for a Monday night dinner!

Our waiter was very friendly. He took our order on a tablet. We received our drinks and waited for our food to come. Approximately 15 minutes after we placed our order, the waiter came back to tell us that there was an "internet problem" and our order did not go through. He had to take our order again. He apologized profusely. He offered us complimentary bread as a way of apology. I had a toddler with me and he was starving at that point. I had to give him some cereals (my emergency snack) to keep him quiet. The food finally started arriving. Here are my thoughts for each item. Blistered bread: 3/5 stars. Interesting looking bread. It is served puffed up. Nice presentation. It gets deflated when you cut into it. Taste is average. Nothing spectacular. Charred Broccolini: 3/5 stars. It was too charred for my liking. Taste: average. I don't care too much for the sauce that comes with it either. Fried calamari and artichoke: 5/5 stars. This was the best dish of the night. Excellent calamari and artichoke. It was fried with a light batter and seasoned well. Delicious. House Italian sausage pizza: 4/5 stars. This was a bit spicy but good. Crust not too thick which is the way I like it. Spicy shrimp alla Vodka: 4/5 stars. Spicy but not too spicy. It has a nice flavor. Liver mousse tortellini: 2/5 stars. This is supposed to be filled with chicken liver mousse and crispy chicken skin. I did not taste any crispy chicken skin. Overall taste: meh. I would not order this dish again. Venetian duck ragu: 3/5 stars. I liked the pappardelle pasta but the duck was too salty for my taste. There is supposed to be Maitake mushrooms on this dish. I only tasted one mushroom. It could use more mushrooms. Pork chop Milanese: 3/5 stars. This dish comes with a huge mound of salad on top of the pork chop. The pork chop tasted average. The salad is the best part of this dish. Butter and Pecorino pasta from the kids menu: 4/5 stars. It has a nice buttery taste. It's too bad that my toddler grandson was too full to eat the pasta. He got full eating cereal and bread since it took so long for the meal to arrive. I think the food was okay. Overall value not so good. A bit pricey with small portions. Having had to wait awhile for the food didn't help with the overall experience.

Food - some real tasty & some beyond poor and unacceptable…read more Service - meh. Not bad, definitely not great, like some of the neighboring restaurants. Ambiance - okay. For years I've seen and heard how highly rated this place is. We had a Friday evening reservation. The restaurant is nice and all located on the second floor with an open lit up patio, which is really nice. Given it was a particularly warm evening, and the sun was still glaring, we opted to sit indoors. Unfortunately, they sat us at a table right by one of the doors to exit out. It was left open for the most part, given the wait staff used it to go in and out. I'm not complaining about the heat, but having a big suctioned gust of hot air hit me, my hair and my food that should've remained cold constantly was not a good experience. That being said, I did enjoy the ambiance & hustle & bustle of the diners, groups, and families dining alongside of us. The restaurant is nice, as I said, but our table was too small & the seat of our chairs, which were made of cloth, were disgustingly dirty and large black stains! Like a dirty restaurant carpet. The wait staff was meh. Not bad, but not helpful/great. Just alright. We mentioned how it was our first visit, a usual flag and opportunity for wait staff to give you an overview, fan favorites, and personal notes - nothing. Comment just fell flat. We had a couple of $19/glass cabs. Just alright and highly priced. But the waiter could not understand what I was ordering and had to have me eventually point it out on the paper menu. Not a big deal, but my point about this is that the wait staff is not exceptional like at other neighboring restaurants where the waiters are engaging, familiar with every aspect of their menu without looking at it and conduct themselves with a pride behind their service. This was "just get the job done" at minimum vibe. Let's move on to the food...which by the way wasn't timed carefully so this is where that small table became an issue...There were some promising highs, as we started with the incredible tasting hummus & puffy warm pita, fresh out of the oven. We opted to add the veggies to the dish for an extra $4 and they too were crispy, cold and fresh. We had fried calamari, unfortunately, that was rubbery - pass! Esp at the price. Since it was my first time here, I wanted to try the Greek salad. For me, it was wonderful. Rough chopped delicious vegetables and a slab of feta, with a delicious oily vinaigrette. My husband was disappointed, expecting an actual Greek salad with greens. To his point, this is something they should note on the menu, given we wanted to share it. For entrees, my husband got the beef kabob plate. He thought the rice was okay, but it was another pass for me. Fast food by my house makes one twice as good. Didn't expect that from this highly rated, highly priced place. His beef was alright. My chicken thigh was disgusting, I'm not being extra, I couldn't eat it. It tasted like microwaved grilled chicken tenders (held a tenders' shape even) previously frozen and had zero flavor. I was beyond disappointed! They added heavy char lines, which I normally would love as an added touch to flavorful chicken I'm accustomed to with this type of fare but since there was zero flavor from the chicken, the only flavor I got was burnt/char and that's not fun. The chicken meat consistency itself felt fake compressed chicken. Their bread pudding dessert was tasty and the coffees were alright. Our bill, with tip, was $270.00. Normally, for so many dishes drinks and courses, we wouldn't even flinch. But given half our starters went to the trash and my full entree went to the trash, the value for this place plummets, along with the lackluster service and seating issues. Oh, and one more thing. My husband and I were up the second half of the night with stomach aches! Will never return here, ever.
