I saw this place being built while driving to Subway across the street. Finally i have had a chance to check it out and good thing because they have only been open for two days!! You order up front and receive a number for your order than take a seat and recieve everything you ordered via a waitress in your section. Very nice! Everyone is really friendly and helpful. The manager (i think, not sure ) noticed i was kind of lost and he helped me with my order explaining things and answering all my questions. I took a seat and wow.. I'm pretty impressed!!! We totally love this place and have had nothing but good service , food and open air scenery . The huge glass doors are always inviting and it gives you a nice fresh feeling . The food is delicious as well as their very nice and charming service . Very helpful and the appeal of the food leaves you wanting to capture before your first bite . They do not sell regular old soda style drinks but their own house style soda that gives you that original charm that most places lack . You can watch the pizza artists do their work and then partake in your heavenly delight hand made for you . I personally love sausage since I am Italian I'm pretty darn picky . This place is great! My husband loves pizza, I mean seriously loves pizza. So I tried looking for a place in Pasadena since we were in the area and what do you know, Yelp does it again! Every opportunity for my husband to try pizza, he will take advantage! You can walk to the front entrance of the restaurant, but majority of people enter from the back entrance. The parking lot is in the back and it is a little small for the size of the place, but there is a lot of street parking around the area. When you get in the restaurant, you go straight to the cash register area. There are menus that you can look at and there are seasonal items that they write in. The items we love are: Roasted Chicken & Mushroom Cavatappi, Field Mushroom Pizza, Grilled Broccolini, Shaved Brussel Sprouts, and Fire Roasted Cauliflower. The menu is simple, the place is simple, but the taste of the food is where it's all at! This place is super kid friendly and good for groups. When I first moved to L.A. it was woefully devoid of decent pizza. There have been a few exceptions throughout the years (Garage Pizza on Sunset comes to mind) but nothing that really stands out. Over the last few years, the SGV has seen a wildfire of pizza joints pop up. Let's face it: pizza is the new cupcake/cheeseburger. Everyone with some money in their pocket wants to get in on it because they're sick of the mega corporation options. Among the new kids on the block is Pitfire Artisan Pizza. Now, the word "artisan" inspires eye-rolling and faux retching, but the pizza more than makes up for bandying buzzword. What we ate: Grilled Broccolini - Perfect for us Californians that need a green so we can pretend we're at least making a modicum of effort in eating healthy. Big Sur Pizza - Shrimp on pizza doesn't usually entice me, but this one not only caught my attention, held it and captivated my taste buds. Would definitely order this one again. Sausage Fest Pizza - I normally don't go for "meat, meat, meat!" pizzas, but that their Italian sausage has fennel in it won me over and it completely lived up to my expectations. Unsure I'd order this again because it's just so much meat, but I would definitely order another pizza (or a custom pizza) with the fennel sausage. We've been looking forward to checking this place out since it's right next to my son's daycare. The venue is spacious with ample outdoor seating and what appears to be a full bar. I was hoping my experience and review here would be about the food, however I couldn't help but to be distracted by how overly in your face this place is about tipping. When you walk in here, you'll notice it's not a full service restaurant. You walk up to the cashier where you're greeted by not one, but two large beer pitchers with dollars in it to encourage tips. They could be a little more discreet about this. There are two registers within close proximity to each other with two large pitchers for tips that take up a lot of counter space. Here you place your order, pay for it, then seat yourself, where your meal will be delivered to you-- remind me where is the service exactly again? I paid with my credit card upon ordering, and sure enough, the slip conveniently calculates what 15%, 18%, and 20% gratuities would be. I find this actually very helpful at a FULL SERVICE restaurant, but I think it's absurd at a place like this. I mean, I just placed my order and haven't tasted the food, nor experienced any service (whether good or bad), so why would you suggest gratuity amounts on your credit card slips for? This really provides an uncomfortable environment for customers in my opinion. If my tip isn't up to your expectations, will I receive substandard service? I really think Management needs to rethink this strategy. This restaurant is in an upscale part of Pasadena-- customers will tip nicely when they get good service, period! No need to push the envelope! I suppose I should write something about the food. The Pitfire Sausage pizza was okay, but not spectacular. It seemed to be light on the toppings, and the cashier miss-entered my chopped salad for a plain house salad-- what a burnout. If we weren't in a hurry, I would have alerted the staff. The size of the sandwich is so small a 110# girl could easily have 2, and ask for desert! The bread is good, and the sandwich is fine, but still with hardly any ingredients aside from the leafy greens taking up most space. Also he said it would be toasted, and it was not even warm. Not cold, but maybe a bit over room temp. I figure I can order a pizza and can share a slice with coworkers/or not. So I get in line order a Buratta pizza. I get that and it has burratta as if it was a dripping creme sauce. WTF!? Who take buratta and ruins it by seriously melting the heck out of it to drip off the pizza? FAIL. Strike3!...Your outta here! So this place at $27 for a lunch and 2 failed items with rather very good ingredients for the most part(other than runny buratta), preparation is ridiculously BAD. I can't give anything more than Ek, Me thinks not! Cuz I would never go there again. Btw, you got too many staff on the floor. Take 1 or so out for cross shift, and makeup the difference in menu pricing, at least the add-ons!. My rating is harsh, I know, but at the price of $17 for the sandwich, and the failed buratta, Come on!!! Thats just a rip off with issues still to fix! Service is actually pretty good. I like the Pasadena interior much better, yet the Lankershim location has a cool urban vibe that the new location in Pasadena is a bit off across a shopping plaza and generic all around. Comparing Pitfire Artisan Pizza to Blaze, Pieology, and all the other low end build your own pizza joints is just so off-base, it's almost comical. Certainly, there's something self-gratifying about designing your own pizza, but the fact is Pitfire strives to hit a different target market than Blaze and Pieology. They serve soup, salads, pasta, and have a full bar, which puts it more in the class of The Luggage Room, Settebello, Mi Piace, and California Pizza Kitchen. Actually, the food at Pitfire is actually pretty decent, In the 3-4 times that we've had dinner here, the pizza and pasta were all quite good. My favorite Pasadena pizza place, hands down, is the Luggage Room. But on those rare occasions, when the wait at the Luggage Room is too long, Pitfire is a suitable alternative if hunger satisfaction is the only goal. Perhaps I've been lucky because I'm not quite understanding the lack of love for Pitfire's food. The salads are good, the pasta is good, and the pizza's are good. More often than not, we're spending around $25-$30 for dinner for two, not including alcohol, and the quality of food is perfectly fine at this price point. But there's a few caveats. I find the restaurant space to be strange and uninviting compared to the other Pitfires in L.A. county. The bar looks like an afterthought. It's a square shaped bar. It's great for eating sushi, but not for drinking. Great bars are long, where people can have conversations without being stared at by some strange person sitting directly across. There's all sorts of goofy objects hanging from the ceiling that lend nothing to the atmosphere. Being that there's a bar here, the idea is to get to people to come and stay awhile, but more often than not, I just want to eat and leave, because there is nothing compelling me to stay. If it were me, I'd put a long bar somewhere against a wall, put in some booths, tone down the harsh lighting, and darken up the restaurant just a little to give it a better vibe. There's a huge outdoor patio at the front of the building. It's very dog friendly which is a huge plus for us dog-lovers. However, there's been more than one occasion where the patio was filled with exhaust fumes from speeding motorists who think Arroyo Parkway is an extension of the Pasadena freeway. It's not a great patio. Some glass partitions around the perimeter of the patio would certainly help. Somebody dropped some major coinage to build this place, yet every time we've been here, it's been a literal ghost town. Despite good food and a solid menu, I hope that it's not bound for extinction, but for it to exist in a location which gets little foot traffic, Pitfire Pizza needs to assess this location and figure out what it's going to take to fill the seats. . read more

Hand Crafted Chicken Meatballs - tasty but lacking considerably in seasoning with breading overpowering the meat. Hand Chopped Salad - all of us agreed there was way too much onion in this salad and the dressing was too bland. White Pie Pizza - this was by far the worst white pizza I have ever eaten in my life...it was nothing more than plain old goat cheese smeared on the crust. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt but so much went wrong the night of 10/9 around 7:30pm. This is the second time I've been to Pitfire & both have been at this location. The reason we decided to go a 2nd time is because of an article claiming they were the "Best Pizza in California". I walked in along with a Father & son and waited to order. When I walked in the cashier was packing orders to go and after around 5 minutes she addressed us and took our orders. As I gave her my order which was supposed to be 4 pizzas & cheesy knots, I confirmed with her holding up 4 fingers and sayings "That's 4 pizzas & the cheesy knots right?" After I paid, I told her I'd be running down to WF and I'd be back in about 30-45 minutes thinking they would plan accordingly like every other place I've been to, especially since they didn't tell me how long it would take. My fault for assuming. I came back in after around 42 minutes and waited to pick up my order only to find that she placed the order wrong and only 3 pizzas and cheesy knots were ready. My fault for not checking the receipt before leaving. There was a different cashier this time and I explained to her what the issue was, naturally I was upset but for some reason this other cashier acted like I was the problem for complaining that they got my order wrong which confused me. I asked for a manager & explained to her the same thing I just explained to the overly emotional cashier. The manager offered to comp the 4th pizza for me which I accepted. After I got home and opened up the back with the cheesy knots, I realized the plastic lids holding the condiments had all melted and red crushed pepper spilled out all over my kitchen floor, the minced garlic spilled all over the bag & soaked the corner as well as the box of cheesy knots, & the parmesan evaporated into thin air because I couldn't find it anywhere. I opened up the cheesy knots and the lid for the marinara had also melted and it spilled all over in the box. Then we started grabbing pizza only to realize the 1st 3 pizzas were all cold and all 4 pizzas were undercooked and soggy in the middle. Far from being the best pizza in California. They're not even the best pizza in the 1-2 mile radius of Pasadena that they're in. For this type of pizza, I'd rather choose CPK. I won't be going back here for a third time to end up with more disappointments after my experience the first 2 times. read more

I usually love this place and rave about their Kale Salad with grilled steak. It is usually great and always a 5 star- I've had it three times. However, today's visit is sub par. The salad today is of poor quality. The kale is soggy (tastes like it's been sitting out for at least 1 hour and then pressed and shredded, AND the grilled meat is oh-so-chewy! It tastes and feels like it wasn't thawed properly. The dressing is the same but the two main ingredients were just not up to standard. I ate them anyway since I have not eaten breakfast and didn't feel like waiting for another 10 or so minutes. The saving grace is that people here are nice. I informed two waiters to which one offered to replace and the other apologetic. Bottom line, please check quality before serving. Do not serve greens straight from delivery or don't let greens sit unrefrigerated for more than a few minutes. read more

My boyfriend and I were starving after last minute gift shopping on Christmas Eve so we called in here since its on the way home from Old Town Pas. The server I spoke with mentioned they close at 4pm and I proceeded with a pick up order. She called back in about two minutes and left a voicemail saying the ovens were off and they couldn't make the pizza. I didn't realize what time it was when I placed the order so just felt like a dummy. Don't call this pizza. It's flatbread with pizza sauce and a few small scraps of cheese. Crust and sauce are both decent but I like cheese on every bite, not every 3rd or 4th bite. I'd almost prefer one of those cheap $5 pizzas offered at low end pizza joints. Even a frozen pizza would have been better. Establishment itself is nice. Staff is friendly albeit very hipster. When they asked how our food was, I voiced my displeasure and he did offer to remake my pepperoni pizza but I was already soured on the whole experience. My daughter's 'kid's menu' pepperoni pizza was actually better than the adult version. So kids get lots of cheese but adults get teaspoon sized scraps. I guess cheese on pizza is too 'mainstream'. They have lots of offers and the place is surprisingly big inside with big booths to fit groups of 6 people. Granted this place isn't as custom pizza as the others listed above but the options are perfect, our group tried 5 different pizzas and I loved them all.
