Pasadena could replace the Rose Parade with one made entirely from the refuse of its myriad pizza establishments. The only thing more insufferable than calling this "Artisan" pizza would be "artisanal." (which, appropriately, has the word ANAL right there, for fucksake.) Some of my fellow yelpers have mentioned that this place used to be Sizzler. What do you mean "used to be?" It still is, for all intents and purposes. I came in on a Friday night and it may as well have been a Chuckie Cheese given all the little yuppie spawn named "Jaden" and "Wyatt." The beer selection was embarrassing, as was the Farmstand Vegetable panini. Barely roasted fennel, radish and arugula. Maybe it was called "farmstand" because you would have to be a ruminate to eat the thing. WTF was I thinking? I literally had to drive two blocks to Congregation Ale House to cleanse my palate. The poor bartender was doing his best to keep up with hoards of MILFS and DILFS ordering PBR, god bless his soul. Although the space was large, open and well designed, I got the frightening feeling that it was in fact a holding pen for the raising of pizza-fed human veal. The restaurant is a pretty kool place to eat, grab a drink, and just chill with friends. The atmosphere is very laid back with an abundance of space. I came here looking for pasta but, the selection was very minimal and simple. I ended up getting the spaghetti and meat balls though. They do have a wider selection for pizza but, unless you're a fan of thin crust, it probably won't be the most satisfying. Sandwiches, panini's, salad, and other dishes are available as well, I was just looking for pasta. They do have a selection of beers, wine, and cocktails to chose from as well as a decent Happy Hour with a range of $4-$5. This place is a nice spot if you and a few friends are looking for a place to chill with a few drinks and maybe have a snack. Maybe I'll try this spot again but chose different dishes to munch on. Love this place!!!! Where do I start?? They hosted our work Holiday Party and did a wonderful job! Ken the general manager met all of our needs, it was so easy coordinating everything with him. The staff was all friendly and very attentive. The food was amazing, very delicious!!! The baked mac and cheese was very popular! They also had many vegetarian options. We had ten different pizzas they were all scrumptious! The drink were all tasty too I recommend the Gold Rush and the Old Fashion! They sat us outside by the fireplace and had heaters on. I've been wanting to try this place for a while so my boyfriend and I ordered from Postmates and got some food from here. We ordered the Big Sur pizza and the grilled broccolini. The pizza was so good! It was super cheesy and they didn't skimp out on the shrimp. The broccolini was surprisingly good as well. I don't normally eat broccolini but it was actually really good! The mix of the parmesan and breadcrumbs on top of it made it even better. I'd definitely want to come back and actually eat at the restaurant and try the other pizzas! read more

To start this isn't a build it yourself pizza place as it may appear, just an FYI - I'm not holding this against anyone. My friend and I came in not too long after opening time and the booths still had crumbs of food, clearly not cleaned. There was also little to no interaction with wait staff, we didn't need much so it didn't but, but more go around would've been nice. The primary reason for a bad rating is the product it's self, I got the "Big Sur" pizza and it was simply not good, my friend even made a comment on preferring the crust to the actual pizza, which was also not good. read more

alright so I was craving some pasta and was way to lazy to cook so o figured I'd try this place out. I ordered the spaghetti with chicken meatballs and while I could have used a little more sauce I did appreciate the fact that there were enough meatballs to have a bite of meatball in every bite made me pretty happy. I also ordered the flat bread, this was a little over cooked in the middle for my liking. Very disappointed! The portions are so small with not a lot going on. The mac & cheese was basically cooked noodles with barely there sauce and cheese and the size seemed more like a side dish. Crust is thin and crispy. Their pizza is one size which consist of 4 slice less request for a large. Consistency is up to par in my opinion. Chicken & Mushroom Cavatappi is so creamy & delicious but small IF you're sharing for 2 or a pasta hog like me. Farmer Market Plate is decent, tried twice but don't care for it. It's basically grilled vegetables they find at their local farmer market (sprout, cauliflower) & a slice of toast bread with goat cheese. Steak salad: taste.....bland/lacking; I may be wrong. OR order if you're trying to impress your date! Mac & Cheese is a MUST! One word - Divine! For drinks we normally have their seasonal lemonade (free refill) since we're not a big fan of sodas. This place is off the beaten track so it's never to busy here which is strange for a place that the food is well crafted and not too expensive. Salads are very good and craft beer selection decent. This is my new favorite pizza spot in Pasadena! It's only been open for two weeks so I think it's still trying to find its identity between a higher end hipsteresque eatery and your local pizza spot. However, the food was excellent and their service was friendly and attentive. The food. The portions are not overly large nor overly small. I would say the size, taste and quality is similar to the Luggage Room with fresh ingredients creatively combined on top of a thin, tasty crust. Although, for my taste buds, I would give Ptifire the edge on their pizza. My fiance and I ordered the Sausage Party and steak salad. The steak was a perfect medium rare and the salad itself was one of the best I've had. We both left satisfied but not stuffed. The drinks. We ordered the Violet's Violet and Pineapple Habanero Margarita. Both were well balanced and tasty with a decent amount of alcohol. However, Pineapple Habanero Margarita was by far our favorite because the rim was lined with smoked salt that brought the drink to another level. Service. Here's where I think Pitfire still has yet to find its identity. Don't get me wrong, everyone there was extremely friendly and checked on us every few minutes but it's set up more like an asian restaurant where you don't just have one server. Everyone helps everyone else out and checks on all of the tables. This is great because you'll never need to wait long if you need something but to me it takes away from the personalization of a dining experience. Also, if you want to tip them for their great service, you have to do it when you order and pay at the counter BEFORE your meal. This can be a problem if you don't carry cash and prefer to tip after you've actually been served. We left the typical 10% when I ordered thinking it was just counter service but ended up having to go back to the counter to break a large bill to leave a more generous tip once I found out how this place works. Ken, the manager, was amazing and helped us remedy some confusion of us getting shuffled around during the seating process and even bought us our drinks for the inconvenience. Really, it wasn't even that inconvenient, but we were grateful for the gesture nonetheless. He's exactly the type of manager you want in a new restaurant as he was helping all the servers and hosts and checking on the guests to make sure everyone was having a good time. If not for the awkward tipping and the small confusion while we were being seated, this place would get five stars from me. With the staff they have, I can only see the service getting better and the food is already delicious! I can't wait to come back. read more

My really good friend is the kitchen manager at this new locations so me and my wife came in last week to support the new location, and we were extremely impressed. We ordered the pepperoni pizza, the Big Sur (which I highly recommend), and a salad and did not leave with that nasty stuffed feeling. The first thing I noticed about this pizza was the sauce. It tasted fresh, and had a great mixture of flavors that accentuated the taste of the good quality cheese they use. I am a fan of this pizza. It was the second time I ate at this chain, and the first time at this location. This location had a great attentive staff that made sure I had everything I needed. There was a DJ playing some pretty solid music. I am assuming this is a Friday night type of deal. The only thing holding me back from 5 stars is the size of the pizza for the price. Taking into account the good ingredients they use, I would recommend making the build your own pizza a little bigger. Pitfire makes my favorite pizzas in all of Los Angeles, tasty, flavorful, fresh ingredients on a thin crust with slightly charred edges, and slightly smoky from the wood burning ovens - yum. I'm vegetarian so I opt for the wild mushroom, the white pie which has bits of marinated peppers (no longer on the menu but you can ask for it), the pumpkin pizza (when in season) and the cheese pizza (which I tried for the first time and was super tasty). Their chopped salad is another favorite and can standalone as a meal when you're avoiding carbs. They usually have a good selection of craft beers. The sangria is decent too. I think this location has cocktails but I have yet to try any. I like that you order at the counter and then sit down. But I'm not super fond of waiting for the food or drinks to be brought to the table. The servers are often busy or distracted and it's possible to wait a little too long to get your beer from the bar, or your silverware, water etc. The patio is nice, tables accommodate big groups, if needed. Parking always available. I used to go to the Pitfire Downtown but there's no longer parking in the area so now I drive to Pasadena. read more

Service was attentive -- Howard made sure to check- in often to refill drinks etc. One negative for me was the music which was just too fast paced to enjoy my food. I'm not THAT old but I feel like it writing this, but it's the truth. Go more mellow electronica or turn it down a notch or two. I've been wanting to try this place for a while and never had. I would always see the menu on doordash and it looked so appealing but I would always tell myself I have to actually go there. Well to this day I never have gone but I finally got to order from door dash. I wish I had taken a picture bc the way the pictures are online are the same way they looked when I got them delivered. I think everyone knows that when you get food delivered it's not always presented in the best way or doesn't taste as great. But I was honestly so impressed by the look of the food the smell and the taste. I ordered the steak salad and a cup of the white bean soup. I've had steak salads at a couple restaurants and I have to say this is by far the best one I've ever had. The meat was cooked to perfection, zero fat, just melted in your mouth. The perfect mid rare. Every ingredient seemed to really blend and not overwhelm the other. It was light and refreshing and super filling. The white bean soup was so yummy!! I'm always looking for new soups to try and this soup was rich and full of flavor. Both my husband and i agreed we have go in person and definitely order a variety or food because just the salad and the soup were excellent. We had our 9yr old daughter's birthday party here and it was a wonderful experience. We had a party of 5 girls and it was a great number. The girls loved the pizza tutorial from some fun pizza chefs and they loved getting their hands dirty shaping their pizza dough and covering their creations with toppings. George took such great care of us adults, taking our lunch orders and making sure we had drinks. He was fun and really great with the kids. While the girls' pizzas were cooking they amused themselves watching and cheering on the pizza chefs who were tossing the pizzas into the air. The pizza chefs even joined in with a round of Happy Birthday! A thoroughly enjoyable experience and I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a fun birthday party location. They're awesome with kids, and I'll frequent this place for the foreseeable future. I took a star off for consistency, some of the dishes have come out missing ingredients I know they're supposed to have cause I've eaten here for so long. Or sometimes they're just a little different than I'm used to. I appreciate that everything's made of to order and subjective, but I also don't like having to send things back. Pasadena has been the hot spot for burgers since 1926, when Lionel Sternberger invented the cheeseburger. Today, we are seeing a new trend that is taking over the local cuisine in Pasadena. I am talking about Pizza, especially Make-Your-Own pizza places. Blaze, 800 Degrees, Pieology.. and probably a few more. This location used to be Sizzler's, and even though I never ate there in the past, I could tell that it was pretty obvious why they were not around anymore, quoting one of their old reviews: "Tiles fading and falling off the salad bars. The tables looked like they were original...from 1980-something. The seats were old and filthy. My bench at the booth was so old and tired that it was tilted and slanted. Therefore, I spent my entire meal leaning to the right to compensate for the seat sloped to the left. The carpet was fading, old, stained, and smelly." So Pitfire came and remodeled the entire place. It's rustic and artsy. Concrete floors. Spacious. Big. With a bar close to the entrance. The food was good. But the pricing was high, when I saw the size of the pizza. This thing is barely enough for two. You probably don't want to share one of these with your bro's. It's simply not your 18" pizza from Football Sundays. However, the ingredients were fresh and the pizza tasted good. Even though using fresh ingredients, the pricing is highly inflated to cover the cost of the operation in this huge restaurant. Service was lacking, big time! We ordered the Tuscan bean soup, and it came with grilled woodfire bread. The bottom of the bread was entirely burned, so we asked the waiter if he could get us a new piece of bread. We wait 6 minutes -- nothing happens and the waiter is nowhere to be seen so we we call another waitress. We tell her that it has been a while we asked for the bread, and that the soup now is cold. She said that she would bring us a new Tuscan bean soup and bread. We wait another 8 minutes, and she comes in with soup and bread, but no spoon, since the first waiter took our spoon. So I saw the first waiter and called him over, told him that the other waitress forgot to give us a spoon. He said "I'll get that for you!". We see him go back in to the kitchen, bring out food for other people, seat other people, and stand next to the service station. But no spoon to be seen! Remember that the soup is still sitting on our table, but we can't eat it so we start dipping the bread and using it to scoop up the soup! I'll see the waiter still standing at the service station, and it's been perhaps 3-4 minutes now since he left us. I walk up to him, and ask where the spoons are, because it felt like he had forgotten it. And once again, we ate not-so-hot soup. So, all in all. Yeah, it's just not that great service, but perhaps understandable for a new establishment when they don't have their routines in place. Even though he was far from being the Soup Nazi (a reference from Seinfeld), we couldn't enjoy our meal. Honestly, I don't think I will be back here for Pizza. It wasn't as good as other pizza joints in Pasadena, and it's just a bit off from Old Town for it to be convenient on a night out. read more

I ordered the Sausage party and my husband ordered the Pitfire sausage!! The pizza was very very good and I think it's the sauce that does it!! We also ordered the grilled Brocolini which was absolutely delicious! They have happy Hour M-F from 3pm 6pm! The place is big and open and a great atmosphere! I normally hate artisanal pizza. I also normally hate thin crust pizza. I'll take a thick gooey cheesy pizza from a hole in the wall over a prissy margherita pizza any day of the week. The majority of Artisanal thin crust pizzas have this tendency to take the charm of what good pizza is and ignore them completely. But Pitfire is like what Kendrick Lamar is to people who don't like rap music- the exception to what you thought. While pizzas remain on the thin crust side, their dough is so good and everything is so well executed that you can't help but get why this place is so loved. Sprouts and bacon pizza is fire.
