Earlier today I purchased take out from Pitfire Artisian Pizza on Arroyo Pkwy in Pasadena for dinner. While my family served them selves a plate, one took a bite of their roasted chicken and mushroom cauatappi and to their big surprise they happened to take a bite out of a huge bolt that was in the pasta and has chipped their tooth because it was mistaken for a piece of mushroom. As upset as we are about this, it's a huge cause for concern as this could have been deadly. I fed my child this pasta! It truly makes you think, how could a bolt gotten into the pasta? It's was seasoned and cooked along with the pasta. HOW could someone not catch that while cooking it? It's concerning to think what else may be going on in the kitchen as well as how the food is being prepared and handled. Makes you wonder if the machinery is all being kept up to date. I came here for dinner the other night with a few of my friends after a class and had a great experience! The restaurant was very clean and the ambiance was chill and sort of modern rustic. You order at the counter, get a number, sit down and they bring your food to you. The staff is super friendly and the prices are reasonable. I was very impressed with the service! Servers and managers were always around making sure that everyone had what they needed. For dinner, I got the "Classic chopped salad" with vegetables, provolone, oregano vinaigrette and I added the Genoa salami and pepperoni. I also ordered the roasted chicken meatballs. This salad was phenomenal!!! First of all, it was a ginormous portion. Second of all, they certainly did not skip out on the meat! The portions of meat on there were very generous. Third of all, it was one of the most delicious salads that I have ever had. I loved everything about it. The chicken meatballs were also amazing. They had a great savory flavor without being too salty. The marinara sauce is so good! They were served with a lovely piece of bread with Parmesan too! I also wanted to bring my husband back some dinner. He's allergic to onions and garlic and one of the managers there was so friendly and helped me find something that he could have. Came here fire a paint nite event but decided to grab lunch first. Order at the front counter and seat yourself. I really like the open atmosphere with communal and individual tables, glass windows, multi-level seating area, and a large patio. Dogs seemed to be welcomed on the patio. They also have a large bar with several beers on tap. Pizzas are 8 inches, so it was too much for me to eat alone, but wouldn't have been enough for 2 to share without another item. For lunch for two, a chicken salad and pizza +2 beers were great. The bill came out to be ~$50 including tax. Not cheap, but the pizza was so good. All I can say is HONEY BEAR. If you're a fan of sweet and savory combinations, this is a winner. My heart was set on this pizza before even entering the restaurant, and you should always follow your heart because it'll lead you down the right path...we're still talking about food here. Definitely coming back again for the Honey Bear pizza and maybe trying other ones as well. read more

Unfortunately I can't do zero stars. But let me start by saying that this was the worst experience ever. From the time the order was placed the lady at the cashier was rude practically threw my change and the drinks at us. Our order was placed at 11:46 am and we sat down the restaurant was completely empty it took almost 45 minutes for us to get our food when it had just been sitting there. When I asked the manager which by the way was really rude why it had taken so long she replied with I don't know and not my problem. Overall Pitfire pizza is a pretty good pizza place with decent prices. My wife and I came in because we were both craving wood fired pizza. We ordered 2 pizza's, a Margherita and the honey bear pizza. The Margherita was just okay giving it about 3 out of 5. The sauce was the biggest let down and the ratio of cheese to sauce seemed to be sauce heavy. The honey bear pizza was very good though 5 out of 5 stars for sure. I really enjoyed the sausage and the honey flavor. Only complaint would be I wish there was a bit more honey so the flavor would come through a little more. The night we came here I was trying to be good with the carbs...but being around pizza the smell and sight of it all is going to overwhelm me. Cmon, I'm only human. I tried a bit of the Zoe with added arugla and the steak salad they had on the menu. The pizza was a hand tossed around 12 inched sized diameter pizza, thin crust. With the arugula it had a very rustic look to it. It was fine, and will feed two or one person who has a larger appetite. The steak salad I ate all myself practically and everything was good...the steak being rather good for some thrown onto a salad but unfortunately it was taken down a notch by the candied walnuts. They were just a bit off...I dunno if they weren't freshly made or what but they were a big soggy and for 1 ingredient to mess up an otherwise good salad really was a shame. read more

This place was delicious!! I came here last night because there was an event on their patio so I came to check it out. I ordered the honey bear pizza and their Belgian whit draft beer. Both were delicious. The honey bear was a great mix of spicy and sweet that I really enjoyed. My friend tried a slice and really liked it as well. She ordered the say cheese pizza and the cider. The cheese pizza was your standard cheese pizza but it was still delicious. Personally I would try another specialty pizza like the burrata one because that one also looked very good. It definitely tries to go for that cool vibe with the murals on the wall and when we went there was a DJ, which is way cooler than the Pizza hut down the street. The interior kind of had that same industrial chic vibe that say, Chipotle has. We ordered at the counter, and then got a number and sat down. The beer selection was pretty decent, good mix of local stuff some more well known crafts. The stand out was the honey bear, it seems like every 'artisan' pizza place has this combo and some of them just fall flat. I was expecting the pizza here to go into the same category but it did have that right balance of salty/spicy from pepperoni and sweetness of the honey. I work nearby so I often order food for pickup on my way home. It's usually pretty simple since I order and pay for everything through the app and just give them my name when I walk in. Today I had a strange experience with the person who handed me my food. When I walked in, his greeting to me was cold and kinda rude. All he said was "Sup?". I told him I placed an online order, I gave my name, and that I was there to pick it up. He seemed annoyed with me and as he was walking away, with his back turned to me, he asked if I already paid for it. I said yes and I don't get a response back or any acknowledgement that he was going to go look for my order. He came back with my order and I mentioned that the last time I ordered they forgot the salad dressing, so I said I was going to check to make sure there was some in there. He said, "I don't care", and turned his back to me and walked away. Is this what customer service has come to? I LOVE their steak salad, and for that alone I'll go back. Pitfire Pasadena has a semi-industrial look with a bright red oven that sets the scene for this vibrant restaurant. When you first walk in, you'll notice a pretty sizable bar just past the entrance. Don't let that distract you as you turn towards the counter to give your order. Passed the bar, you find ample seating that's spread over two levels. Your standard table and chairs are closer to the bar, while the booths are towards the back. They do have an outdoor patio with a little over ten tables with plenty of spacing if you're trying to keep your distance during the pandemic. The pizza at Pitfire is delicious. I ordered a pepperoni pizza. Pitfire uses a flat and thin pepperoni that can get nice and crispy in the wood-fired oven. The crust is thin and cracker-like. Slightly charred from the wood-fired oven, the crust gives a slight snap when you bite into it. As you get to the back of your slice, you're greeted by a flavorful crust that's pretty light but did hurt my jaw as I got closer to finishing the pie. I'm not sure if that was because the crust was cooling or if my jaw was tired. The sauce is a standout at Pitfire. It has a full-bodied sweetness that announces itself with every bite. This is even more evident because Pitfire doesn't use shredded mozzarella to top their pizzas. Every so often, you're going to take a bite that doesn't have cheese, and that's when you'll absorb the full flavor of the sauce. Overall, Pitfire's food is a winner. Add in the incredible service from the team and you have everything you need for a great experience. read more

In a word, disappointing. Still looking for a go-to pizza place in Pasadena. (Note: I ordered takeout) Got the basic margherita pizza and a chopped salad sans red onion. Starting off with the pizza, I was disappointed as I had seen pictures online but mine seemed to be lacking. Crust was pretty good but a couple slices were a tad burnt. Sauce to cheese ratio was a bit off - some bites were all sauce as the cheese coverage was poor. Also found the basil to be rather dry and lacking in freshness. As for the salad, people had raved about it online but I found it to be a hodgepodge of random ingredients. First off, the menu is very vague about what is actually in it. It seems like they tossed whatever was in the fridge into mine. Lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, olives, garbanzo beans, mozzarella, pepperoncinis, corn niblets, assuming onions are standard, plus the salami and pepperoni I added. The dressing was nice, but it was a clash of flavors and lacked identity. Nice size but odd flavor combo gave me no desire to finish. May try again somewhere down the road as it wasn't awful but certainly wouldn't order either of these items again. read more

Stopped by for an early dinner after an appointment, and the place was surprisingly not as busy as it used to be pre-pandemic. Service was friendly, but no one checked on me once the food was brought out. I had to get up and ask for a to-go box. Ordered the honey bear and the farmer's plate. Both were good, but I remember them being better pre-pandemic. Still, I would order both again. Enjoyed the beets, but I didn't care for the yogurt sauce. The avocado was great although there was only one piece of orange. Brussel sprouts were good but I've had better. Wish I would have gotten the broccolini instead which I've had before and was really good. The honey bear was really good except the crust which was just okay. I love how thin it is, but the crust taste is nothing standout. I don't know. I just remember the pizza being better before. I've also had the burrata previously which I remember being really good. Wouldn't mind trying Zoe's pepperoni or the Margherita. Also got a cookie on the way out. They're huge, but flavor-wise, I'd pass on it in the future. read more

My coworkers and I have come here for our monthly "drinkies" quite a few times. Here's what we like about Pitfire: *Service is always great, even when they are very busy. Very attentive and friendly! *Tons of tables inside or on the patio. *Great variety of yummy foods and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks for our diverse crew! *HH!!!! It runs from 3pm-6pm Monday-Thursday and has tons of food items and drinks! *Free parking in their lot, at Superba as they close early (4pm), or on the street. My recommendations are the spinach artichoke pizza, avocado toast, and their smothered cookies (Pitfire's version of the pizookie). Fridays are really busy with large groups, so keep that in mind when heading over as parking can be difficult. Since we love Pitfire and it's walking distance from our office we will definitely be back for our monthly get together. read more

This last order came 40 minutes late and in response, they took 10% off the bill. Nice gesture and alas, on to the food. Our favorites have been: Field mushroom and Sausage party pizzas, roasted chicken and mushroom cavatappi pasta, and steak salad. Can't go wrong there. Our least favorites have been: margherita and vegan margherita pizza, spaghetti and chicken meatball (super dry). It's been a mixed bag but overall there are more hits than misses here on the menu. Pitfire Pizza is to pizza as Stonefire Grill is to BBQ- good for masses but probably not your weekly spot to get your 'artisan' pizza fix. read more

My 8 year old daughter wanted one of these buttons but apparently you can ONLY have one if you give a Yelp review. I just spent $95 dollars on dinner but the miserly and officious person at the ordering register absolutely insisted we cannot have one until I write a review and prove it to her.
