Wonton Noodle Soup, Beef Roll, Twice Cooked Pork
Rebecca N.

LA staple, can't go wrong - affordable (~$20-30/person), generous portions, tasty and hearty food. The closest you'll get to good, pretty authentic Chinese food other than the SGV. Would advise coming before 6pm to beat the crowds - came around 8:30pm once, and there was still a long wait! Food comes out quick once you do sit down. Recs: - Beef roll - Wonton noodle soup - Twice cooked pork - Pan fried pork buns

Honestly a nice cozy spot to enjoy some beef noodle soup and panfried pork buns. Service is good- pay upfront and sit afterwards. Parking is limited to street parking.

What a wonderful find in DTLA. MICHELIN taste but at Bib Gourmand price, which is why they are recognized for excellent quality, good-value cooking. I ordered some Taiwanese comfort food classics like the dan dan noodles, beef noodle soup, taiwanese sausage, and cucumber appetizer. This is a fast casual restaurant where you do need to order and pay first, but they do bring the food to you. Cashier was nice and so were the workers who brought our food. Note that the only thing was that parking is difficult as usual in all the DTLA area. We circled around and eventually found street parking 8 minutes from the store (walking distance).

First time at Pine & Crane. It was so delicious we ate without taking pictures. The ambiance is so nice and relaxed and the staff ended up giving us the iced green tea free since it was our first time. We liked everything we ordered and will be back. if I had one complain it would be that I did see two flying gnats around our table. Otherwise, I would have scored it a 5/5.

Pine & Crane is a little casual eatery with a relaxing and easy-going ambiance contrasting its tight-knit and bustling location. The classic Taiwanese dishes like Dan Dan noodles, chili oil wontons, beef pancake rolls, beef noodle soup, and scallion pancake all tasted delicious! I liked the fluffyness of the beef pancake roll which was really comforting. The peanut sauce of the Dan Dan noodles had a strong kick, and the fresh cucumbers and textured noodles balanced that out. The passion fruit tea was a nice refresher for the highly flavorful meal.

Minced pork rice, probably the best thing on the menu

Silverlake is an odd place. The vibe is restless hustle and bustle; the streets are narrow and full of potholes (a gentrification work-in-progress); the people are predominantly young Gen Z's who take this all in a stride while queuing up for trendy instagram cuisines such as ice cream tacos and Michelin-recommended Taiwanese pan-fried bao. The food may not be the cheapest or most authentic, but it's trending in social media. Pine & Crane strives to be authentic Taiwanese comfort food. It falls way short in that regard, but the social media buzz and Michelin star keep the crowd coming nonstop. Line is long but moves swiftly, thanks to an efficient staff. We ordered 4 items, my favorite being the minced pork rice (flavor spot-on). The scallion pancake has almost no scallion; the pan-fried pork bao has no broth or crispy shell; the beef roll has too much cucumber and no flavor -- I don't think the Michelin tire company people ordered these before awarding their star in 2025. Like most bucket list items, not likely to return or repeat.

Shrimp Wontons

Great little spot. You order and then they seat you after your order, great idea and first time I've seen this. We got the shrimp wontons, beef roll, Dan Dan noodles and pork buns. All were delicious, and I would say a must order. The pork buns reminded me of buns we had in Taiwan and I loved that. Minus one star because although all the food was tasty, nothing absolutely blew us away. Either way, it's a good spot you should check out

Where should I start? If you're looking for slightly elevated Taiwanese cuisine that is medium authentic, has decent flavors then pine and crane is the place for you. Don't get me wrong. The food here is good, but I do feel that the flavors are a little Americanized. The beef roll portion was huge. While the pancake itself was nice and crispy, the cucumber to meet racial was a little off. In my opinion. I wish it had a little bit more meat. The pancake overall had good flavor, but I do feel it was a little on the sweet side as well. I really enjoyed the smashed cucumber appetizer and the seasonal vegetable, which in this case was Taiwanese cabbage. Both were well done. As for the limited pan fried dumpling, I felt that it was too doughy. For the beef noodle soup, it was just okay in my opinion. The beef was tender, but the broth was lacking depth in flavor. This is a decent place if you don't want to venture too far into SGV for authentic Taiwanese food. Portions were decent size and I would say probably even on the larger side. Would I drive all the way to eat here? Probably not. Is it a solid option if I'm in the area? Definitely.

Beef Noodle Soup

We ordered the minced pork on rice and the beef noodle soup. Both were delicious. The minced pork reminded me of Vietnamese braised pork (thit kho). Nothing too crazy but still yummy. The beef noodle soup was amazing! The broth was deep and dark and the hand pulled noodles were nice and chewy. I would come back to try more items on the menu.

My friend and I had a chance to visit the Silver Lake location on a Sunday around 4pm. We were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't too busy, there were only 2 parties in front of us. We grabbed a menu and ordered at the register. They ask if you prefer a private table or a seat at a communal table. We chose a private table and waited a little bit for one to open up. I ordered the dan dan noodles which come with peanuts and cucumbers and it was delicious! I also got an iced passion fruit tea with boba which was also really good and fresh. My friend and I shared the beef roll and it was tasty and perfect for sharing. Everything we tried was really good and the service was friendly. It can get busy and parking can be tough but it's definitely worth a try!

I haven't tried many things on the menu because I'm stuck on the Dan Dan noodles!! When I'm craving DanDans, I shoot to Pine and Crane.. The service Is always great, I've never had a rude interaction there, everybody's always been super cool..I also love their little sister restaurant Joy!! Their little salads- wood ear and lotus are also very good. I usually buy both and mix them together. Oh I forgot to talk about the Mochi! The Mochi is so very yummy, Its so nice and soft and fluffy!!! I especially like the peanut dust side! I'm sure there's a name for it but, I usually just call it that!

For the pizzas, we ordered the following, all of which came out hot with my absolute favorite leopard-spotted crusts, which definitely has that *sour*dough flavor plus a beautifully plush and chewy texture :D Stracciatella & Prosciutto (4.5/5) - the stracciatella cheese was divinely creamy, and it had this lovely sweet & savoriness to it - we couldn't really taste coffee-infused honey tho The Banger (4/5) - also another delicious and diverse combination of ingredients perfectly arranged on a pizza; nduja could have been more prominent as, besides the cheese, it seemed quite similar to the S&P Mushroom (3.5/5) - the truffle is fragrant, and overall the mushrooms are not too overbearing! Our waiter was kind enough to let us sample the three whites they had rotating that night so we could pick what we wanted. I ended up going with a nice Georgian white. And now for the food! Cucumber and pomegranate salad (5/5) - it was fresh, crisp, and very well flavored with the fresh herbs. Ghormeh sabzi with rice (3.5/5) - flavor wise it was delicious, it reminded me of my grandma's ghormeh sabzi. Kidney beans were a bit undercooked. Rice was fluffy and well cooked. Blood orange tart (3/5) - the tart itself was yummy but the blood oranges were quite bitter. Our meal was quite expensive which I completely understand given the quality of the ingredients they use and the fact that they are small business. With that being said, I'd probably only come back here for wine and small bites, not a full meal. But I think Voodoo Vin is worth trying at least once.
