Silverlake is an odd place. The vibe is restless hustle and bustle; the streets are narrow and full of potholes (a gentrification work-in-progress); the people are predominantly young Gen Z's who take this all in a stride while queuing up for trendy instagram cuisines such as ice cream tacos and Michelin-recommended Taiwanese pan-fried bao. The food may not be the cheapest or most authentic, but it's trending in social media. Pine & Crane strives to be authentic Taiwanese comfort food. It falls way short in that regard, but the social media buzz and Michelin star keep the crowd coming nonstop. Line is long but moves swiftly, thanks to an efficient staff. We ordered 4 items, my favorite being the minced pork rice (flavor spot-on). The scallion pancake has almost no scallion; the pan-fried pork bao has no broth or crispy shell; the beef roll has too much cucumber and no flavor -- I don't think the Michelin tire company people ordered these before awarding their star in 2025. Like most bucket list items, not likely to return or repeat.

Great little spot. You order and then they seat you after your order, great idea and first time I've seen this. We got the shrimp wontons, beef roll, Dan Dan noodles and pork buns. All were delicious, and I would say a must order. The pork buns reminded me of buns we had in Taiwan and I loved that. Minus one star because although all the food was tasty, nothing absolutely blew us away. Either way, it's a good spot you should check out

Where should I start? If you're looking for slightly elevated Taiwanese cuisine that is medium authentic, has decent flavors then pine and crane is the place for you. Don't get me wrong. The food here is good, but I do feel that the flavors are a little Americanized. The beef roll portion was huge. While the pancake itself was nice and crispy, the cucumber to meet racial was a little off. In my opinion. I wish it had a little bit more meat. The pancake overall had good flavor, but I do feel it was a little on the sweet side as well. I really enjoyed the smashed cucumber appetizer and the seasonal vegetable, which in this case was Taiwanese cabbage. Both were well done. As for the limited pan fried dumpling, I felt that it was too doughy. For the beef noodle soup, it was just okay in my opinion. The beef was tender, but the broth was lacking depth in flavor. This is a decent place if you don't want to venture too far into SGV for authentic Taiwanese food. Portions were decent size and I would say probably even on the larger side. Would I drive all the way to eat here? Probably not. Is it a solid option if I'm in the area? Definitely.

My friend and I had a chance to visit the Silver Lake location on a Sunday around 4pm. We were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't too busy, there were only 2 parties in front of us. We grabbed a menu and ordered at the register. They ask if you prefer a private table or a seat at a communal table. We chose a private table and waited a little bit for one to open up. I ordered the dan dan noodles which come with peanuts and cucumbers and it was delicious! I also got an iced passion fruit tea with boba which was also really good and fresh. My friend and I shared the beef roll and it was tasty and perfect for sharing. Everything we tried was really good and the service was friendly. It can get busy and parking can be tough but it's definitely worth a try!

I haven't tried many things on the menu because I'm stuck on the Dan Dan noodles!! When I'm craving DanDans, I shoot to Pine and Crane.. The service Is always great, I've never had a rude interaction there, everybody's always been super cool..I also love their little sister restaurant Joy!! Their little salads- wood ear and lotus are also very good. I usually buy both and mix them together. Oh I forgot to talk about the Mochi! The Mochi is so very yummy, Its so nice and soft and fluffy!!! I especially like the peanut dust side! I'm sure there's a name for it but, I usually just call it that!

Just ok Taiwanese food. Could get yummier food at a mom & pop shop, BUT the service was excellent and it was a cheap Michelin Guided restaurant. Dishes (ranked by best): 1) Beef Roll: best dish I had there but it was just standard in terms of flavor 2) Dan Dan Noodles: it was creamy, but it needed more flavor (ie chili oily). The noodles were also slightly overcooked so it didn't have the bounce to them. 3) Shrimp Wonton: it's a non-traditional dumpling flavor with a thicker wrapper texture. Logistics: -free, limited, street parking -lots of indoor seating, however, they are busy so requires wait times for a seat -they have private seating in the communal table -accepts credit card -you wait in line to order your food, you receive a number, and wait for a seat to be available. Once seated, the food comes out fast. Sometimes dining in is just as fast as takeout. -Pro Tip: you can order online for takeout

If you're looking for comfort food, Pine & Crate is the spot! Very chill vibes here, nothing fancy. You'll need to order at the counter first before sitting. Scallion Pancake wasn't as flakey as we thought it'll be. It's more on the doughy side. Vegan Mapo Tofu (no meat but mushrooms) was good. It does have a little kick of spice to it. Dan Dan Noodles flavor was also good. We noticed the flavor is milder than most places, and also has a little kick to it as well. I like that there was cucumbers slices to each bite. The interior of the cafe is very nice and cozy, kind of mid-century japandi vibes almost.

Pine and Crane still delicious and a busy hotspot. The Dan Dan noodles were a bit overcooked and drowning in sauce but we still enjoyed. Lotus root remains one of my favorite appetizers. Eggplant is silky and soft. Bok choy potstickers plump and tasty but I prefer the pork.

Lately I've been trying more places serving Asian dishes in town than I used to be, and my most recent one being Pine and Crane. As expected, tough parking in Silver Lake, but fortunately ordering process wasn't as bad. As the venue was busy, guests were required to place order at the counter before being seated. The staffs were super accommodating in trying to assure shorter wait time. Coming in a group of four, we're trying multiple dishes by having family-style meals. We got their Pork Belly and Beef Roll for small plates, Wood Ear Mushrooms and Lotus for sides, and their iconic Dandan noodles from the noodle selection along with Twiced Cook Pork from the rice dishes. Price to portion was decent and sharing was certainly great idea to enable you trying multiple items. The pork belly had strong garlic flavor, so tender, and perfectly thin-sliced that it felt like melted in my mouth. The beef roll was one of my highlights, seemed simple combining beef slices and leek yet I was always a fan of this kind of Chinese pancakes. Then my number one was doubtlessly the most peanut-based Dandan noodles. This iconic dish was such comfort food especially for me a peanut lover. The noodles certainly elevated it, getting the whole group impressed by how cheesy it was and how flavorful the sauce was. The crushed nuts toppings enriched overall texture play on the plate. Besides, ordering extra sides of woodear mushrooms and lotus were great companions to this carbs! Their milk tea was also worth trying and pretty affordable.

Great service, clean, with plenty of seating. We came at 12 pm right before it opened and had no wait. We ordered the beef roll (10.75) and beef noodle soup (15.5) and both were delicious! The beef noodle soup was hearty with bok choy, mustard greens, tender braised beef shank, and chewy noodles. Not too salty and felt very filling. Portion is small so perfect for one person! The beef roll had hoisin sauce, cucumbers, cilantro, and five spice beef. Crispy with lots of cucumbers and flavorful. Street parking only but a great place when craving Taiwanese!

I really wanted to love the OG pine and crane, but everything was unfortunately just off. The only thing saving this review is that the scallion pancake and tea was yummy. I have gone to all 3 restaurants in this trio and Joy is definitely the best and the DTLA pine and crane is better than this one. For some reason the eggplant just wasn't cooked enough for my liking and the mapo tofu (which has become my comfort dish) tasted grainy and was honestly bland compared to how the dish is done at the other two locations.

We came on an early Saturday evening, right around 5:30 pm. Finding parking was a challenge, but if you're willing to do a bit of walking, then it's no problem. When we arrived, the place was busy, but no wait. But by the time we got our first appetizer, the line was out the door stretching across the storefront. So coming a little early is definitely the way to go. So you order at the counter, and then you're given a number and assigned a table. The friendly servers would bring the food to you. The place is a nice mix of modern design and traditional Taiwanese accents with ambient lighting. We ordered scallion pancake, shrimp wontons, pot stickers, Taiwanese sausage, and Dan Dan noodles. The scallion pancake was a bit too thick and doughy. The shrimp wontons was good, but just missing a little something. The sausage was a bit on the dry side. The pot sticker skin was a little thick too, and could be a little crispier. And the Dan Dan noodles was a little too heavy, and lacked a kick. So I had to add more chili oil and black vinegar to give it some more flavor depth. Overall, all our dishes were good, but we've just had better. And I'm still glad I tried it.

With that being said, I'd probably only come back here for wine and small bites, not a full meal. But I think Voodoo Vin is worth trying at least once.

David is a jazz enthusiast, and spends a lot of time going to bars and shows around greater Los Angeles. He wanted to see his friend Adam Ledbetter, who plays piano at the bar on Monday nights, and we tagged along. We'd been to Cafe Stella once, many years ago, but this was our first time inside Bar Stella. The space was nice, an attractive lounge with comfortable seating and a relaxed European vibe. We did have to wait a few minutes for seats to open up on a Monday, so I wouldn't be surprised if it were a little less chill on a weekend night. Bar service was fast and friendly, and we had a few rounds of cocktails. I don't remember everything we drank, but I liked the C. Arthur, made with Artist Blend Scotch, lemon, honey, cold press ginger, and Angostura bitters. El Viento was good too, if slightly watery and sour, with Tequila Ocho Reposado, yuzu, grapefruit agave, and Thai spice bitters. The piano was lovely. Adam is an incredibly talented musician, and it was a pleasure listening to him play. I appreciated his music even when we were talking, and would love to go back to hear it again on another Monday night.

At one point, a security guard even grabbed my cup while I was literally in the middle of taking a sip, saying "ladies, we're done." It felt really unprofessional and unprovoked. If I just bought a drink 15 minutes earlier, why are you touching it and rushing me out? And if you're going to start clearing people out that early, why continue selling drinks until 1 AM?

Everything is so overpriced it feels like they are intentionally letting you know you are not good enough to be one of their customers. You can get this type of food and wine at 99 other places with nicer employees, easier parking and much less attitude. The staff behaves as if this was a high school not a wine bar. Do yourself a favor and don't come here. I highly recommend the classic LA ambience at other close by establishments such as The Oaks on Bronson, the Alley in Silverlake or The Cara on Western instead. This place is like a bad Ryan Murphy series. It takes itself way too seriously. I've given them over 4 chances to change my mind since I live around the corner, and they never cease to amaze me when it comes to their entitled snotty staff & overpriced alcohol plus the parking is absolutely impossible! I even had to help customers break out of the parking lot one evening because the gate closes at a particular hour, and the restaurant doesn't even bother to tell you the gates shut at a particular time way before the restaurant closes. you're on your own, good luck getting your car out! avoid this place like the plague. I wish I could get back to $500. I've spent here over the past two years.

I graciously took them to the counter. I was surprised and uncomfortable when the bartender openly complained about the tip I left. This interaction felt unprofessional and unnecessary, particularly given that it was my first visit and no effort was made to provide a level of service that would warrant such a reaction. I believe feedback regarding gratuity should never be expressed directly to a customer, as it creates an uncomfortable environment and reflects poorly on the establishment. I expected a higher standard of professionalism and customer service. I am sharing this feedback in the hope that it will be addressed and that future guests will have a more positive experience.
