The braised pork belly was so incredibly soft and melt-in-your-mouth, and paired with the pickled carrots and cucumbers tucked into that steamed bao bun - so juicy. We also got the scallion pancakes which were crispy, chewy, and came with a soy ginger dipping sauce. The wood ear mushroom and bean curd stick salad was a nice lighter contrast to the heavier dishes too. We tried the beef noodles as well. The noodles were a bit on the tougher side, which is kind of expected with this style, but the flavors were solid overall. But do NOT sleep on dessert. I had to order the deep fried bao bun with ice cream scoop inside and it was delicious. Absolutely worth saving room for if you're looking to end your meal off with a sweet treat! Parking is easy with plenty of street parking nearby. Love that there's both indoor and outdoor seating - the patio outside is perfect for bigger groups at night, and the inside has its own aesthetic vibe that's equally great. Woon in Pasadena and Joy in HLP are like those 2 siblings with the same mom but different dad. Upon entering you'll get a déjà vu, have we been here before? No, that was Joy on York. Ordering style is the same, the layout is exactly the same, menu slightly reminiscent of the other. Pork belly over rice was good, noodle portion was small for the price. i really don't think you could go wrong with any choice off the menu! the service is always great and quick. i was actually quite surprised by the braised pork belly over rice. this is such a classic dish that i've always loved from my childhood and they made an amazing version of their own. just this alone was able to keep me full and happy. the cucumber pickles are a nice touch! even if you're not well-versed in chinese food, the menu is a great introduction to delicious staples that you typically can find in asian restaurants! went right before dinner so parking was easy and it wasn't busy. read more

I think the portions are a bit small for their price and there weren't any distinct flavors that set these apart from a traditional Chinese restaurant-- I would even add that it's lacking. These were shared among 2 people and we both left stuffed AND had food left over! The star of the show for me was 100% the beef noodles - the al dente handmade noodles absorb the umami flavor of the tender beef and sauce. What more do you need in this life?? This location is a neighborhood favorite, packed from open to close and for good reason. YOU MUST ORDER THE NOODLES. They are charred, umami, and have a kind of chew that you will not be able to stop thinking about.  Everything else that I tried was alright. The scallion pancakes were lackluster and overpriced. The pork bao buns were good, but unbalanced. The pork belly was soft and the pickles offered a nice tang, but the bite lacked an overall sweetness that would have helped round out the dish.  The ambience is nice, with small tables, short chairs, and tight spacing. I was driving home when I saw a sign for "homestyle Chinese food" and randomly decided to pull over. The funny part is, once I walked in, I realized I'd actually seen this spot pop up on DoorDash and Uber Eats a bunch of times before. I'm really glad I ended up visiting in person instead because the atmosphere inside is genuinely part of the experience. The place has a great energy to it. The staff all seemed happy to be there and genuinely liked each other, which honestly changes the whole feel of a restaurant. They were playing good music, service was fast, and the space itself just felt warm and lively without trying too hard. I ordered the Pork Belly over Rice along with the Woons + Ugly half beer, which it sounds like is a Taiwanese rice beer brewed specifically for the restaurant. The pork belly was exceptional. The flavor had a lot of depth and worked perfectly with the pickled vegetables and rice. I added chili oil to mine and that pushed it over the edge in the best way. One thing I will say is the portions are a little deceptive at first glance. When the dish first came out, I actually thought it looked small, but it ended up being incredibly filling. I even considered taking half home at first, but ate slowly and finished the whole thing comfortably. Definitely enough food to leave full. Everything came out super quickly and was plated beautifully. I went around 5:15 PM on a Thursday and had no issue finding street parking right in front, with plenty of spots on both sides of the street. I found the pickles overwhelming in terms of flavor, but i enjoyed the tofu and bao itself. The tofu was soft and marinated well. Veggie noodles (2/5): The noodles were way too hard. The flavoring is okay, nothing special. I wouldn't crave this dish or want to come back for it. Just an average noodle dish. Street parking and a small lot available. I am so happy I finally tried Woon. This authentic Taiwanese was popping on a Monday night and for good reason. First off, I absolutely loved the branding of this place. They had such an eclectic collection of custom "Woon" merch in front of the cash registers, to-go dumplings, and homemade noodles and sauces. Anyway, for dinner we started with the hibiscus tea which was such a nice temperature and the floral notes were a fabulous palette cleanser for the food spread we had in front of us. The pork belly bai bun was perfectly crispy and tender. The bun basically melted in my mouth and the pickled veggies were the perfect contrasting punch! The spicy "mouthwatering" tofu was such a unique dish. The fried tofu paired so well with the garlicky sauce. I wish the sauce had more spice though. I loaded it up with chili oil and it became the perfect bite. The five spice wings could've used more spice to be honest! I kept dipping them in the sauce the tofu was in. The wings were the perfect level of crispy and juicy, just in need of some more flavor! The stand out dish (best for last) was the beef noodles. I've never used oily as a positive descriptor of a dish until now. The oiliness MADE the dish! The noodles were the perfect bouncy chewy texture and the beef was perfectly tender. Woon has been on my Yelp list for as long as I can remember. I finally got to try it when I was in the Westlake area a few weeks ago though left a bit disappointed. We ordered at the counter and grabbed a table, and they brought the food out to us within 20 min. The cucumber and tofu dish was not good, and 100% not worth $7. The baked tofu pieces inside were dry and gritty, and the cucumber pieces were cut too small that they were not juicy and didn't have any surface area to absorb any of the flavor. The chicken wings were nice and crispy but the flavor was still lacking. The beef noodles were too oily and heavy for me. Outside of the overpowering saltiness of the dish, it really didn't have too much other flavor. The saving grace for me was their pork belly bao, which came with a gigantic slice of pork belly that was so tender!! Overall I thought it was an okay place for Chinese food, though personally I don't think I'd go out of my way to come back. A lot of the dishes fit really well in a family style meal setting, but it feels like it caters to a more "on the go " crowd (vs. the long family dinners I had going out with my family growing up). I think during the meal, you could probably order a few other things from your table, but I think it's best to just go to the counter and order more. I ordered Woon via Uber Eats and it was the worst decision ever. It's been a while since I was so dissatisfied from food. I got the scallion pancakes, stir fry beef noodles, and gai lan. For such small portions, the food is pricey and lacks that restaurant-quality taste. The scallion pancakes were rock hard and covered in grease. It was so difficult to chew. I even attempted heating them up with my air fryer too and it's still hard. Worst scallion pancakes I've ever had. Even the frozen ones from 99 Ranch taste so much better. The stir fried noodles and gai lan tasted like it's completely drenched soy sauce only. It's ridiculously salty with no flavors other than soy sauce and salt. The crispy garlic and sea moss powder on the gai lan did absolutely nothing to enhance the flavor. I do not recommend Woon.
