Crab Wonton, Hot & Sour Soup, Singapore noodles, Emperor Beef, Black Pepper Chicken, Spicy Garlic Eggplant, & Veggie Fried Rice
    Ian L.

First off, I did takeout and I can't speak upon service or restaurant interior BUT I see why this place has nearly 4.5 stars. I rarely write reviews on Chinese takeaway because most of them tend to be very similar if not the same in product and quality. But I absolutely had to commend this one! This is also my first time ever having anything from the establishment, brilliant impression for sure! Everything I ordered (granted I do live in under 20 min delivery time) came in super steaming hot, literally steaming. I'm also not sure if I'd chalk this up to possible lunch rush or end of lunch rush, but it seems that getting fresh hot food from this place is a consistent factor. I'll have to order one weekend to also test that. But for midday on a Tuesday having this fresh quality food for takeout seems a rarity usually. Only thing that wasn't hot were the crab wontons but they still tasted fresh just didn't travel well. Which is fine, I really expect crispy & fresh if dining in with things like that or packaged super well to preserve crispness. They still tasted great though, although maybe a bit more filling would be nice. Every item tasted incredible overall and the quality was for sure noticeable. The emperor beef came in quite crispy still too which gives me high hopes for ordering orange chicken next time or any fried dishes. I always get Singapore noodles at places as a litmus test because it's usually a very consistent thing and you can tell when it's good or bad. The shrimp were fresh, the curry spice were really notable but not overpowering, and the colour was spot on. Once I opened the container I knew this would be a solid dish. These were some of the best Singapore takeout noodles I've had in LA. I've ordered from a lot of establishments (and a lot of very famous ones as well) that didn't meet this level. As an absolute hot and sour soup lover, this hot and sour soup was some of the closest I've gotten to some of the best Chinese takeaway I've ever had in my life which was in London in Chinatown. Nothing will come close to that soup I know in my heart, but this would be pretty close if it was a little bit thinner broth and had a bit more kick to it for the hot pop. But it had the perfect amount of the sour and lots of vegetables in it as well, which I appreciated! Overall, everything was phenomenal!! The quality was there, freshness was there, nothing tasted like it had been sitting out at all or like it had been carried over from the previous day. I think this might be my go to place for Chinese takeaway now I do wish there was a little bit more in the range of options on their menu as a hole but since I haven't gone into the establishment, I don't know if they takeaway menu online is different than the one they have in person. Other than that if you're pretty close to this place or looking for a really good Chinese takeaway you know is going to be hot & fresh if you live under 20mins (could even push even 30mins) delivery time--DO IT!! I genuinely can't wait to eat these leftovers and I can't wait to order again from here!

We were driving through LA and were craving chicken food. I always look up reviews first and this place had lots of them! We ordered a few dishes to share from; short ribs, beef chow mein, Kung pao chicken, and salt and pepper shrimp (not in photos), and everything was delicious! The service was great, server was very kind. We will definitely come back if we are in the area. 5/5

This is a scoop and serve restaurant. The equivalent to a Chinese meat & three. I ordered the Combo A. Your choice of meat and either lo mein, fried rice or half and half. The lo mein was the best thing on the plate, the orange chicken was mid and the fried rice wasn't very fried. The customer service was good and I would give them another try, minus the rice.

    Mongolian Beef.

If you're looking for some amazing Chinese food in the heart of Chinatown this is the place to go. We ordered a few plates but the Mongolian best was the best along with the garlic edamame. The service is great, be patient because it's literally a few staff. The inside is spacious and really clean. Don't miss out on this gem.

Support small business, LA Chinatown. Solid, simple, good Chinese food.

We went straight for the affordable daily combos (in this economy...) which is the pork chop, crispy shrimp and garlic chicken wings--all served with fried rice. All were flavorful, with my favorite being the chicken wings followed very closely by the crispy shrimp. It's also shareable and can be eaten as "family style" but also as personal plate meals if you prefer. May I also suggest the garlic noodles (add protein if you wish) because that is also tasty. The service is appropriately friendly (not terribly chatty or over-the-top, which is fine by me) and you can feel that they are watching but it's just because they want to anticipate your needs (that's the vibe I got from it anyway). This is a simple restaurant, not terribly fancy, but it is a sit-down and can be a good spot for a simple celebration. It's a wonderful small business restaurant in LA Chinatown, so come support them.

This is probably the best Chinese spots Ive been to in a while. Everything was hot and fresh, and most importantly NOT GREASY. Everything was a hit, though personally I would skip the crab wontons. Not because they were bad, but they are just something that I dont generally gravitate towards. The only "issue" (the reason why it isn't 5 stars) is because of the orange chicken. The flavor was great, but if you're expecting that lightly breaded and crispy exterior, this doesn't have that. It was more of a flash fry situation. Again, not bad, just not what we were expecting. Everything else, no notes. Nothing was overly salty or bland. It was just perfect. Service was quick enough, no frills as you would expect from a hole in the wall Chinese place. But food was even quicker. Will 100% be back

Friends and I were walking around China Town and decided to stop in. Food was absolutely delicious. The staff was efficient. Would recommend 1000%.

Very busy Christmas night at Golden Tree. Not only were the tables full but a crowd of Door Dashers waiting for their pickups. There were seven of us so we had a wide variety of dishes including three vegetarian. All were excellent. The server seemed to be the only one on the floor but we were meeting friends and had a lot to talk about so a leisurely meal was just fine with us. The green beans were outstanding as was the garlic eggplant. The beef dish was tender and flavorful and we loved the chicken and broccoli. Reasonably priced, this was an excellent first time experience.

What came out looked and tasted better than what this photo shows.

A very surprising and rare find in Downtown LA. We found this place by chance after watching a late evening play at the Ahmanson Theater. At 10:00 PM on a Sunday night, you know your dining options will be very slim. I was resigned to eating fast food, but fortunately Golden Tree came to the rescue. After entering, I noticed there were a fair amount of diners inside. A good sign. The gentleman came and took our order. We went with the Mongolian Beef dish, the Kung Pao chicken and shrimp, and also the beef noodle dish. Another good sign was that it took about 20 minutes for the food to get to us. Based on what I was seeing how the food was being served to the other diners, the food looked freshly prepared. All three dishes were absolutely amazing. I honestly couldn't tell if the food was really that good or was it because I was just that hungry. However, everyone in our party agreed that the food was amazing. Rest assured that I will be coming back here again soon.

    Shrimp Fried Rice 虾炒饭
    Zar P.

We stopped by before exploring Chinatown. It wasn't busy and there was only one other party in the restaurant. Food was pretty good but nothing really stood out to me. We got the chicken with mixed vegetables, shrimp fried rice, and crispy shrimp with bok choy toast. Fried rice was good, standard fried rice. The chicken dish was fine. Was excited to try the toast after seeing other people's pictures. It was alright, they did not sift the oil long enough so it was pretty oily. Overall, I think this is more 3.5/5 but I rounded it up.

Spicy Garlic Shrimp w/Broccoli. Not spicy at all!
    Renee P.

I thought the food was mediocre at best. I ordered the Crispy Pepper Calamari, which looked suspect to me; it didn't look like any Calamari I've ever eaten, and it also had entirely too much batter, so it went in the trash. The Spicy Garlic Shrimp w/Broccoli wasn't spicy at all, which was a disappointment. The Yang Chow Fried Rice was decent. I wish I could find a really good Chinese restaurant near downtown LA that would deliver to my place of business.

On a rainy Sunday evening in LA, we were in search of a good Chinese takeout dinner. I came across Golden Tree on Yelp, and we quickly came by to order inside. We had the orange chicken and the cantonese style beef chow fun, which were PHENOMENAL! The orange chicken sauce was soo tangy and delicious and the noodles were filling and yummy. There is plenty of seating inside, with a good amount of metered parking spots nearby as well as a $5 lot right next door.

    Steve O.

Had to drop off my son at the Regent Theater for a rock concert so my wife and I took the opportunity to drop by the Golden Tree again. Tried the Slippery Shrimp, Chicken Lo Mein, and Crispy Orange for the first time here. Huge portions of chicken and noodles. Not an over abundance of shrimp but they are sizable and delicious. More than enough food to bring home to feed the younglings later. The food here is a great value and it's open late. If only the location was better. Oh well. You can't have everything.

How many servings does a tray of food provide (i.e. beef lo mein)?

Depending on your appetite, it's at least 2 servings. If you have another dish of protein or veggies, then it serves between 3 - 4.

Hi , my friends and I went there a while ago and loved it. We were happily surprised by the tea that was served there and I was wondering what kind of tea it was?

    OOLONG TEA.

    Do they offer vegetarian options?

Yes! I do meatless Mondays. I had the mapo tofu, roasted eggplant, and vegetable chow mein.

They have pictures of celebrities and politicians who've visited their restaurant. Service was relatively quick, but there was a 20-minute wait for the dumplings. Valet parking can get difficult when the lot gets full. A few cars entering the narrow driveway had to reverse out of the way to let others leave. The kung pao chicken was very tasty with a good amount of spice. I noticed that the slippery shrimp didn't taste as spicy as the portion from Pasadena. Reviews say that the spice is adjustable. Regardless. it tasted great as it came right off the pan. The pork fried rice was delicious with a savory flavor that didn't seem overpowering. I thought the juicy steamed dumplings were the weakest dish out of our whole order. There wasn't enough flavor and heat from the broth. I didn't try much of the eggplants, but they tasted adequate for me.

By the time the next dish arrived, we were already finishing the previous one. My brothers and I were joking that they must have a new cook that hasn't learned how to time cooking. At a Chinese Korean restaurant, meals are meant to be shared family style, with dishes arriving at the same time so everyone can enjoy them together. That did not happen, and it took away from the experience, especially for a birthday dinner. On a separate lunch visit, the service also felt inattentive. The waitress seemed annoyed when taking our order as well as when I asked for more water and side dishes, which again impacted the overall experience. The food is still the reason to come.
