Not gonna lie, this place has really gone downhill. Before the remodel, I used to eat here 3-4 times a week because the food was consistently good. Since then, the quality has dropped across the board. The noodles were hard and had a plastic-like texture, the meat was no longer juicy or flavorful, and even the spring rolls weren't as good as they used to be. Pho 87 is located at the end of Chinatown, hidden in a corner close to the freeway entrance and by the residential neighborhoods. I was looking for pho on a sunny day and they delivered. When you walk in, you can already tell that this place is authentic. They have a koi pond and at least, when we went, it was a packed house during lunch time on a Wednesday! Prices for the pho were higher than average but the flavors were all there and we got our food minutes after ordering. My group ordered the #3 pho with rare beef the #4 pho with rare and well-cooked beef and a rice dish. We did not expect the rice dish to have such generous portions. The spring rolls and the crunchy spring rolls for appetizers come in sets of 3 and had the freshest of ingredients. Apparently, there is a private parking lot in the back but we did not find it when we were there. Fortunately, we did find street parking. Plenty of searing inside it was just pretty warm. Okay service probably due to how the volume of people, they were just focusing on serving not hospitality. The spring roll was tasty and actually had a lot of different veggies unlike some places. Went to Pho 87 in Chinatown with the family before the Dodgers game and got the #2 large pho. Broth was really flavorful and comforting, especially before heading into the stadium crowd. Portion was huge with plenty of meat and noodles. The egg rolls were also crispy and fresh. Definitely feels like one of those classic Dodgers pre-game food spots. Saw a lot of people wearing Dodger gear stopping in before the game and the place had a fun busy vibe. Family friendly too with plenty of groups and kids eating there. Solid Pho spot for LA. Walked-in with a larger group of friends on a Sunday afternoon and we were able to get seated right away. Firstly, we ordered a Goi Cuon #38 to share with the table and it was good. There was a good portion of meat and filling and the veggies were crisp. The rice paper itself was on the harder side though, so I would've liked if it was a bit softer. The peanut sauce was tasty, but I would've preferred a thicker and less sweet sauce. The order came with 3 rolls cut in half which is good for sharing. For my main dish, I ordered the Pho Thit Nuong #20 and that was good as well. It was pretty much a regular pho with charboil pork. The pork was tender and I liked the charred flavor of it which also flavored the soup broth. There was also a good portion of noodles. I ordered mine at the medium size which was perfect and I was able to finish the entire bowl. I do feel like there's better iterations of the dish elsewhere, but this was still solid. The service was great and our food came out pretty quickly from ordering. The staff are also super personable. My table had a good time chatting with the owner and staff about the décor and the history of the restaurant. I came here with a group of three and it was already packed for 12 pm on a rainy day. We were told our wait time was going to be 30 mins, but ended up waiting for 15 mins which was surprising because there were people coming in and out, left and right. So you know this place has got to be good. I ordered the bun bo hue with no pork feet but they still decided to add it to my bowl (no complaints, it was good). At the edge of Chinatown, there is a pho restaurant called Pho 87. It was my first time here, but it gives off authentic vibes. Ingredients are fresh and not as skimpy as some other places are currently. Beef and/or Chicken are the go-to. There are better examples, but you'll have to head farther eastward. The service was excellent! I had some pho leftover to take home and the lady helped box my leftovers for me. She even separated the noodles from the soup so that the noodles wouldn't get soggy. They barbecue their pork, so you get a rich bbq grilled flavor in the spring rolls or on the plates. The pho is a rich toasty brown color and all the spices and flavor float forward with each bite. SO delicious!! I highly highly recommend! We started with the shrimp and pork spring rolls, which were perfect. Super fresh and light, stayed rolled even with the thin rice paper. The accompanying peanut sauce was also great; not too peanuty or heavy. The bun cha was equally amazing! Pork was expertly cooked, accompanied with onion, cucumber, and noodles, wrapped in lettuce. Found this place on Yelp and wanted to give it a try based on the many high reviews. Like everybody mentions the parking can kind of suck like everywhere else in LA it's small and basically in DTLA. I noticed there were a mixture of different races too so that's always a good thing. We all ordered pho dac biet and the spring rolls. Now I can see the hype and wait. It's pretty good here! Not as good as my go-to favorite spot in San Diego but pretty darn good! Their broth was nice and flavorful before any additions. I noticed all they had for condiments were just sriracha and hoisin though. No sugar, black pepper, or fish sauce like I'm used to. I really liked how they brought out vegetables for each person and not 1 boatload to share like I'm used to. I also liked how when we ordered spring rolls they brought out 3 sauces for each of us instead of just 2 like again, what I'm used to lol. They surprisingly had nuoc beo so that's a major plus.
