Not gonna lie, this place has really gone downhill. Before the remodel, I used to eat here 3-4 times a week because the food was consistently good. Since then, the quality has dropped across the board. The noodles were hard and had a plastic-like texture, the meat was no longer juicy or flavorful, and even the spring rolls weren't as good as they used to be. It feels like every part of the meal has taken a step back. I was really disappointed with my experience today. Pho 87 is located at the end of Chinatown, hidden in a corner close to the freeway entrance and by the residential neighborhoods. I was looking for pho on a sunny day and they delivered. When you walk in, you can already tell that this place is authentic. They have a koi pond and at least, when we went, it was a packed house during lunch time on a Wednesday! Prices for the pho were higher than average but the flavors were all there and we got our food minutes after ordering. My group ordered the #3 pho with rare beef the #4 pho with rare and well-cooked beef and a rice dish. We did not expect the rice dish to have such generous portions. The spring rolls and the crunchy spring rolls for appetizers come in sets of 3 and had the freshest of ingredients. Apparently, there is a private parking lot in the back but we did not find it when we were there. Fortunately, we did find street parking. Allot extra time to find parking since this is Chinatown, LA and you'll be fine. read more

Went to Pho 87 in Chinatown with the family before the Dodgers game and got the #2 large pho. Broth was really flavorful and comforting, especially before heading into the stadium crowd. Portion was huge with plenty of meat and noodles. The egg rolls were also crispy and fresh. Definitely feels like one of those classic Dodgers pre-game food spots. Saw a lot of people wearing Dodger gear stopping in before the game and the place had a fun busy vibe. Family friendly too with plenty of groups and kids eating there. Service was quick and food came out fast even during the rush. Only downside is parking around Chinatown can be a pain, but overall worth the stop before a Dodgers game. read more

Solid Pho spot for LA. Walked-in with a larger group of friends on a Sunday afternoon and we were able to get seated right away. Firstly, we ordered a Goi Cuon #38 to share with the table and it was good. There was a good portion of meat and filling and the veggies were crisp. The rice paper itself was on the harder side though, so I would've liked if it was a bit softer. The peanut sauce was tasty, but I would've preferred a thicker and less sweet sauce. The order came with 3 rolls cut in half which is good for sharing. For my main dish, I ordered the Pho Thit Nuong #20 and that was good as well. It was pretty much a regular pho with charboil pork. The pork was tender and I liked the charred flavor of it which also flavored the soup broth. There was also a good portion of noodles. I ordered mine at the medium size which was perfect and I was able to finish the entire bowl. I do feel like there's better iterations of the dish elsewhere, but this was still solid. The service was great and our food came out pretty quickly from ordering. The staff are also super personable. My table had a good time chatting with the owner and staff about the décor and the history of the restaurant. Hidden, but for such a small restaurant, it's authentic. I knew it was gonna be good as soon as I saw their calendar. I came here with a group of three and it was already packed for 12 pm on a rainy day. We were told our wait time was going to be 30 mins, but ended up waiting for 15 mins which was surprising because there were people coming in and out, left and right. So you know this place has got to be good. I ordered the bun bo hue with no pork feet but they still decided to add it to my bowl (no complaints, it was good). The pork feet was very tender and cooked perfectly. I loved the pork blood, they were very generous with the amount in my bowl. I wish it was spicer even when I added more sriracha, but they didn't offer chili oil like other places on the side on the tables. Overall, I thought the place was really nice. Theres a lot of seating, but it is a bit cramped so be mindful when getting up and leaving. read more

They asked me to come try it out and I couldn't say no! I've always been curious about this place. By far the best pho I've ever had. I get this multiple times when it's cold outside and even in the summer at times. The pho is so perfectly made. They have great egg rolls and other sides as well. My fiance and I had the pork egg rolls, shrimp egg rolls, shrimp and pork spring rolls, and brisket and rare steak pho. The egg rolls were so fresh and crispy and way better than expected. Spring rolls and pho were also solid with lots of meat. My minor complaint is that the white onions were sliced a bit thicker, which is not my preference. This place is legit. Soup is excellent, didn't notice MSG but flavorful. Soup is hot, meat portion generous, pho also decent sized and that's just small size. Fried spring roll is sizable for $11. Even though $11 seems steep. Only comment is wish they are the authentic rice paper than using wonton wrapper for the spring roll wrap. Service also good. Would not recommend getting bun bo hue here, especially not take out. Firstly: a hint of lemongrass flavor only, no shrimp paste flavor, not spicy, not much anything. It's like they took pho broth and added a tiny bit of bun bo hue seasoning. There is also not nearly enough soup. No bun bo hue toppings, only the normal pho toppings of bean sprouts and basil. There's no extra shrimp paste or chili oil like bun bo hue in Alhambra. So there's nothing I have on hand to fix this broth. I am picky when it comes to Pho. I used to live near Little Saigon in OC, so I am spoiled with so many good quality bowls of pho. LA is better in food scene except Vietnamese... So disappointed in the quality and quantity of food here as a Vietnamese person from OC. We ordered a pho bo vien nam gan ($17)and a large bun bo hue ($19). The prices here are so high for the quality and quantity of food they give you. I ordered three meats with my food and I only received 2/3 with a total of 5 pieces of meat and a largely disproportionate amount of noodles to fill up the bowl. Being the last remaining Vietnamese restaurant in LA's Chinatown, Pho87 continues to serve a delicious bowl of Pho and many other Vietnamese cuisines. Bowls of beef broth come in two sizes and are enough to fill a warm belly. Dining is without fluff and with just traditional goodness. Ingredients are fresh and not as skimpy as some other places are currently. Beef and/or Chicken are the go-to. There are better examples, but you'll have to head farther eastward. The fried egg rolls are slightly below average, but the spring rolls are usually good. Rice noodles in both the Pho and Bun dishes are always fresh and not overly cooked, which is a sign of a very important detail. I've seen this place pop up on social media a couple times, so I wanted to give it a try. The pho here is good but pretty standard. I'd say it's not much different from the pho in the SGV. The service was excellent! I had some pho leftover to take home and the lady helped box my leftovers for me. She even separated the noodles from the soup so that the noodles wouldn't get soggy. Overall, decent pho but not much different from the SGV and not as good as the pho from the OC (e.g. Westminster, Garden Grove). I'd recommend giving it a try though! read more
