Plenty of searing inside it was just pretty warm. Okay service probably due to how the volume of people, they were just focusing on serving not hospitality. The spring roll was tasty and actually had a lot of different veggies unlike some places. Veggies could have been a little fresher that's why a 4 but it smelled great so i'd go back for pho.

WOW! i haven't been here in at least 10 years and I expected it to have changed since then, but i was wrong. The service was super quick and accommodating and the food was absolutely delicious and authentic. the charbroiled pork pho is a staple for me and i loved the grilled flavor and rich pho broth. it's not always easy going into the depths of LA considering traffic, but for this place i will absolutely make the journey if it means i get to have a delectable meal!

By far the best pho I've ever had. I get this multiple times when it's cold outside and even in the summer at times. The pho is so perfectly made. They have great egg rolls and other sides as well. They are usually busy when it's cold outside so just be prepared to wait. Staff is always friendly and welcoming.

Solid Pho spot for LA. Walked-in with a larger group of friends on a Sunday afternoon and we were able to get seated right away. Firstly, we ordered a Goi Cuon #38 to share with the table and it was good. There was a good portion of meat and filling and the veggies were crisp. The rice paper itself was on the harder side though, so I would've liked if it was a bit softer. The peanut sauce was tasty, but I would've preferred a thicker and less sweet sauce. The order came with 3 rolls cut in half which is good for sharing. For my main dish, I ordered the Pho Thit Nuong #20 and that was good as well. It was pretty much a regular pho with charboil pork. The pork was tender and I liked the charred flavor of it which also flavored the soup broth. There was also a good portion of noodles. I ordered mine at the medium size which was perfect and I was able to finish the entire bowl. I do feel like there's better iterations of the dish elsewhere, but this was still solid. The service was great and our food came out pretty quickly from ordering. The staff are also super personable. My table had a good time chatting with the owner and staff about the décor and the history of the restaurant. Overall, a good experience here and I would identify this place as a good option for pho in the LA area.

Hidden, but for such a small restaurant, it's authentic. I knew it was gonna be good as soon as I saw their calendar. I came here with a group of three and it was already packed for 12 pm on a rainy day. We were told our wait time was going to be 30 mins, but ended up waiting for 15 mins which was surprising because there were people coming in and out, left and right. So you know this place has got to be good. I ordered the bun bo hue with no pork feet but they still decided to add it to my bowl (no complaints, it was good). The pork feet was very tender and cooked perfectly. I loved the pork blood, they were very generous with the amount in my bowl. I wish it was spicer even when I added more sriracha, but they didn't offer chili oil like other places on the side on the tables. Overall, I thought the place was really nice. Theres a lot of seating, but it is a bit cramped so be mindful when getting up and leaving.

This is chicken pho with all the bells and whistles... wanted something for my sickness and this was perfect

This place is straight fireI went in there and was greeted with bomb ass tea( jasmine) and had the best pho I ever tasted no lie! Drove across town to see if it was legitimate and they did not disappoint..

Pho #1: PHỞ ĐẶC BIỆT (special 87 rice noodle with combination of beef)

I have driven past this place many times and always see a group of people waiting. My sister and brother-in-law have been coming here for years and love the pho. They asked me to come try it out and I couldn't say no! I've always been curious about this place. We ordered the Pho #1: PHỞ ĐẶC BIỆT (special 87 rice noodle with combination of beef) and Pho #19: PHỞ GÀ TƯỚI (rice noodle with lean chicken). Soup broth on both were rich and flavorful. I added hoisin and sriracha and it was simply heaven. There's a reason why there's always a line. It was definitely worth the wait! Will be adding this into my rotation of places to eat from now on. Delicious!

Went to Pho 87 in Chinatown with the family before the Dodgers game and got the #2 large pho. Broth was really flavorful and comforting, especially before heading into the stadium crowd. Portion was huge with plenty of meat and noodles. The egg rolls were also crispy and fresh. Definitely feels like one of those classic Dodgers pre-game food spots. Saw a lot of people wearing Dodger gear stopping in before the game and the place had a fun busy vibe. Family friendly too with plenty of groups and kids eating there. Service was quick and food came out fast even during the rush. Only downside is parking around Chinatown can be a pain, but overall worth the stop before a Dodgers game.

Not enough broth to cover the noodles.

Would not recommend getting bun bo hue here, especially not take out. Firstly: a hint of lemongrass flavor only, no shrimp paste flavor, not spicy, not much anything. It's like they took pho broth and added a tiny bit of bun bo hue seasoning. There is also not nearly enough soup. No bun bo hue toppings, only the normal pho toppings of bean sprouts and basil. There's no extra shrimp paste or chili oil like bun bo hue in Alhambra. So there's nothing I have on hand to fix this broth. I'm just here looking at my sad bowl of beef water that doesn't even cover all my noodles. This, for $18? Very disappointing experience.

At the edge of Chinatown, there is a pho restaurant called Pho 87. It was my first time here, but it gives off authentic vibes. Prices were on the steep side for a bowl of pho, but it did taste authentic. Service was quick. The vietnamese coffee was strong. There were a handful of people in the restaurant eating away. We are trying to support the few remaining restaurants but... There definitely are more comparable pho places with better pricing for the quality of pho. But give them your support if you are in the area!

Their pho is SO GOOD!!! I got the veggie with beef broth and my boyfriend got the beef pho. They both tasted so delicious. There wasn't one thing I could complain about. Their service is very fast and they were very helpful. Will definitely be back for more.

9/22/25 PHO 87 You had us fooled from the outside but once inside, WOW! We were greeted by a very friendly Kelly. She smiled as she seated us and kidded with us as she took our order. Hubby didn't even look at the menu. He just kept yelling, "Number one combo!" She knew what he wanted. She showed him the bowls which came in medium and large. It's a great huge portion. I'd say, if you don't have a pho hog like my husband, there's enough to feed 2 people. I ordered the pork egg rolls. You get 4 large pork filled rolls with the green lettuce to wrap. The sweet fish sauce was so yummy. I am so impressed with this Pho restaurant. You will be, too! I am going to say.... BEST WEVE EVER HAD, and we've had many experiences. Kelly, you are definitely an asset to the operation of this store. Keep smiling and being friendly. We loved you! I found out the 87 represents when they opened which was 38 years ago in 1987. Kudos and heart to you! 5 STARS ALL THE WAY !!

I can't believe it's been 12 years--and I'm so happy to say it was every bit as incredible as I remembered. My friend and I came for lunch. I ordered the vegetable pho, and she had the curry rice. Both dishes were absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, comforting, and beautifully prepared. Honestly, I wish we had more time because we had another appointment downtown. I would have loved to try more dishes and definitely dessert! Our server was wonderful--friendly, attentive, and incredibly professional. He checked on us at just the right moments without ever feeling intrusive. The service was as impressive as the food. The restaurant has such a warm, relaxing atmosphere. I especially loved the beautiful ceramic water cups with bird designs--they were so unique and charming. Even the water tasted wonderful! I'm thrilled that Au Lac is still thriving after all these years. If anything, the food tasted even better than I remembered. I certainly won't wait another 12 years before coming back. In fact, I was so impressed that I convinced my husband to come with me next Saturday for dinner! I've tried many vegan restaurants over the years, and Au Lac remains my absolute favorite. My favorite on the Westside is Variable Café, but if you're willing to drive a little farther, Au Lac is on another level. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. Whether you're vegan or not, this place is truly outstanding. Five stars without hesitation!

She said the house salad was better the last time she came bc the lettuce was different. She recalled it was Romaine lettuce last time. This time it was a green salad. I had the lemongrass fish which was made of soybean. It was a little too dry and rubbery for me. I kept putting it in my soup with rice to make it taste better, but ran out of soup. I won't be ordering this dish again. I took half home, cut up the soybean fish and added it to a stew. I didn't mention to my server that it was my bday, but was disappointed that he didn't even offer like regular servers do, "Would you like to see the dessert menu?" I didn't tell him it was my bday nor did I ask for the dessert menu bc I wasn't the one paying the bill. Not that I needed dessert, but it would've been nice to have been asked. When I mentioned this to another server who came by to clear our table that our server didn't even ask if we wanted dessert and that the restaurant doesn't seem to want to push its desserts, he quickly brought us a dessert menu, but my friend was already paying our bill - too late! It would've been nice to be asked earlier. I even had candles in my bag just in case we got dessert. Anyway, this server said he'll tell our server about not offering dessert. The next day I came back with another friend after a Music Center event. My server from the day before recognized me. This time he asked us at the start before we ordered or after we had just ordered whether we'd like to see the dessert menu. Huh? Ask at the END not start of a meal! Instead of embarrassing him, I told him, "No, thanks. My bday was yesterday." On this second day, my friend and I shared a Chinoise salad (delicious and refreshing!) and paella (not like a paella, a little too wet and granular for our taste, but healthy - a living food dish). We had mint and lemon water for both meals. $12 parking in the adjacent structure. Free parking passes at the Music Center if you're a season ticket holder or good luck with finding street parking. I'd still continue to occasionally patronize this restaurant when I have Music Center events bc I want to support veganism, the restaurant; however, I was disappointed with some of the food and waitstaff this weekend. I'd suggest that the waitstaff go thru customer training on when/what/how to talk to customers. It was a little before noon and there was only one party in the whole restaurant. We got seated right away and it was by the front window for everyone to see. The menu had a lot of options and priced like all other places or I'm just getting used to the prices these days. They did have a lunch special for $20 and you can get a small pho, and then some other choices and then a drink. I couldn't tell you what the other choices were because I didn't order it. The waitress was efficient and got the job done. She did get a little overwhelmed since after 1230pm, everyone decided to grab lunch. Here's what we ordered: lunch special with small bowl of beef pho, a beef banh mi and unsweetened black tea. The hubs said that his pho was decent, the flavor was simple and didn't have that deep rich flavoring like other pho bowls he has had. The banh mi had great bread and the filling was pretty flavorful. The black tea was good. I had the build your own pho because I have to have vegetable broth but I added in chicken meatballs and shrimp. The broth was pretty tasteless so I had to add in some hoisin sauce, and sriracha. There were other condiments but I was too lazy to grab it from the other table. That helped out with the soup. The chicken meatballs were questionable as in I wasn't sure if it was chicken. There were plenty of shrimp and they added pieces of chicken. The noodles had a nice chew to them. Overall the pho was okay but it didn't hit the pho craving/spot. We also ordered pork egg rolls and they were interesting. They weren't crunchy at all. It was a bit oily and at one point, I wasn't sure if a part of it was cooked. There was more other filling than meat. The nuoc mam tasted like watered down fish sauce. I guess I was so hungry that I didn't mind it. Overall, the food was just okay. Nothing exciting to report and unfortunately I wouldn't go back.

It comes with chilies and fish sauce for you to pour on top. The rice cakes are served warm and are super smooth and soft. The thai chilies it comes with are spicy so don't use too much. The vermicelli with nem nuong and egg rolls comes with a slab of meat and a whole egg roll. The bottom are the noodles and mix of veggie and herbs. The nem nuong is sweetened charbroiled pork that is grilled. Think of a sweet meat ball. The egg rolls are super crispy and filled with meat. The noodles go well with the fish sauce and there are a lot of veggies inside. The nem nuong coun is a spring roll that's wrapped in rice paper. It has the meat and lettuce wrapped inside and comes with a dipping sauce. I believe the sauce is made with ground shrimp. For $8 for 3 rolls it is a steal compared to other restaurants. If you are craving Brodards in OC this place can satisfy your craving. Their che ba mau which is a 3 bean dessert has a lot of beans inside topped with coconut milk and shaved ice. It is the person drink to finish your meal and it is not too sweet.

CASH ONLY! Definitely a mom and pop spot, they have tables to dine in but it's one of those spots…read moreI'd prefer to take to-go and enjoy in the comfort of my own home. Com Tam is decent, rice texture is on point. Pork chop is marinated well but not enough lemongrass flavor, tender and not dry at all. Baked egg was good but not amazing, seemed like it missing shredded wood ear mushroom. Che Ba Mau by far hands down the worst I've had. Red bean wasn't soft, outer shell/skin was still pretty tough. Not much mung bean either after stirring it literally for about 4 seconds the mung bean basically disintegrated into the liquid. The liquid.. watered down skim milk, not a trace of coconut flavor anywhere. I didn't know you can mess up Che Ba Mau until I had it from here.

I haven't even finished my meal and I had to come and tell you all how good it is…read more This is my 3rd time to this restaurant and next time I think I'll eat there for the experience. Usually I have a Bahn Mi but today I was craving Pho. My go to Pho spot is a little bit of a drive and I was looking for something in walking distance. No regrets. Today I had the Oxtail Pho + Vietnamese Coffee which ended up being about $28 and worth every penny. Let me tell you I am just so grateful for how delicious is but almost sad i've almost eaten it all. Let's begin with the location. Parking is tight but one thing about Lankershim/Magnolia is the side streets is your friend. Don't stress about parking bc you will find it. Inside the restaurant is very very cute, they have indoor and outdoor seating. Today they had Michal Jackson playing. Big fan! Big fan! The portion size is just right for me. It had enough to fill me up for one sitting and a little left over when my tummy settles and i'm ready for more. The broth is soooo yummy, I can't even explain it. Idk whose grandmother passed that recipe down but I love her. Now let's get into the actual Oxtail. wow, it was actually the biggest oxtail piece I think I have ever had in my life and it was so good. I am going to attach a photo bc this isn't regular Pho baby this herrrrr! (excuse the chunks I bit out, I realized it was so good I needed to tell yall ) They must love me and knew I needed this comfort meal bc there was a few pieces in there. Thank youuuuu Anywho, whether you're by yourself, on a date, with family or friends I definitely suggest checking them out. And you better be nice too bc I think it's family owned, they're lovely. Enjoy!

Ate here for the first time tonight. I live less than 10 mins away but honestly if I had realized…read moreit was where it is before I left the house I would have picked somewhere else. The parking in this area of NoHo is terrible and I avoid it like the plague. That being said - was the food worth the 10-12 minutes of driving around looking for a spot and the 4.5 block walk (which I didn't mind at all)? Mmmmm not really. The food was very good but not special. It is not a full service restaurant - you order at a counter and the water is self-serve. You get a number and they bring the food to your table. The dine-in area is pretty rudimentary with wooden tables and benches. Lots of space and a decent amount of seating. But we were there around 8:15p on a Wed and they close at 9pm. They make no qualms about putting up the chairs around you and prepping to close, which makes one feel a bit unwelcome. I've worked in several restaurants and this is usually frowned upon. IMO, customers should come first and be treated with respect for spending their hard earned money in your establishment. Not like: we got your money now please leave. I'd go back if I were conveniently in the hood already but not sure I'd go out of my way to hurry back, otherwise.
