This is our one of our go to spots in Chinatown! We love coming to Jade wok!! You definitely have to try the tofu!! We usually get a double order one to eat there and want to take home. It's absolutely delicious!! Our favorite dish The sauce is decadent, and the tofu itself is super silky. It's definitely one of our best dishes, and it's highly rated for a reason. Another one of our favorite dishes is their noodle dishes. My favorite are the Chow fun and the Singapore noodles. We also like getting fish when we come whether it be the whole fried fish or their salt and pepper fried fish fillets. We also like getting the pork chops and the spareribs both come with huge portions that are very easy to share. This time we also got the Szechuan eggplant. It was in a sweet-and-sour sauce and came with bell peppers and onions. Still a great neighborhood place for good Chinese foods with less wait in the morning since it sort off tuck on small street away from the main streets in Chinatown. Drive by other places that we want to try but seeing the lines so we went here. No line at 11ish am. But our usual table and quick ordered and the foods came out within 10mins. It's hot, delicious and just big portion that we have to take home the left over for 2 lunch meals. The prices are so cheaper and with the portions, we love it. Great & friendly service & quick too. So good. The Home Made Best Tofu In Town lives up to its name. It was delicious. I would return again and again just for this dish. We also had the beef stew chow fun and snow pea greens. Both were also delicious and exactly what you want in the taste of the dishes. It was too much food for two people so of course we had boxes of left overs. Overall, I would give them a 4.5. There was just one dish I didn't care for. Wasn't horrible, just bland. One that was just ok. Everything that came from the wok were scrumptious. If coming with a large group, call for reservation. This place is busy. Also, keep in mind that their portions are generous while ordering. But the dishes from the wok are delicious so having leftovers to enjoy later wouldn't be a bad thing. Housemade bean curd - if you like tofu, this is a must. It is soooo good. Like eyes roll back into your head foodgasmic good. Best tofu I have had anywhere. I would go back to eat just this with rice and be happy. Seafood crispy noodles were ok. Overall, I give this place 4,.5 stars! I ordered several items: Homemade tofu, Shanghai style spare ribs and beef chow fun. The spare ribs had a flavorful, bold glaze. It was kind of fun to eat because some meat parts had small bones, others had bigger bones, and some had no bones. The beef chow fun was delicious with chewy noodles and tender beef. My favorite was definitely the tofu. It had blocks of lightly fried tofu and topped off with a brown, meat sauce. I fried texture of the tofu soaks in all the brown sauce and the tofu was melt in your mouth delicious. Everything was seasoned well and the portions are generous enough to share. The ambiance is not very inspiring with visible containers and lack of a front desk, but the food is more than inspiring enough. Ample parking in the back and you can go through the back kitchen door to enter the restaurant. The only hiccup to my dining experience was when I tried to pay the bill. I tried to pay with a credit card, but the server said their credit card machines were not working. I would've liked to know beforehand, but otherwise the service was great and friendly. read more

A hidden gem, Jade Wok offers house made tofu which is the best I have experienced. I would travel to DTLA just for the House Tofu served with rice. Silky, flavorful, comforting tofu is smothered in a savory black bean sauce which adds the right balance of delicious flavors. The menu is several pages long with some pictures. Therefore, I chose by recommendations made by several friends who dine at Jade Wok weekly. I would definitely return and try many other items on their menu which caught my eye while dinning there with my family. The House Special Pork Ribs were our second favorite item ordered. Tender sweet bites size pork ribs had the perfect balance of sweet and savory. We collectively loved the ribs. The House Chow Mein which contained shrimp, chicken and pork is served with soft thin noodles. Unlike most chow meins, this was not oily and salty. The Fried Dumplings were average in texture and taste; although it was good, I would not order this here again to leave me room to explore their many vast menu options. To finish our meal on a perfect note, we ordered the sesame balls for desert. Five small balls were served hot and crispy. Judy, the owner of Studious recommended Jade Wok and it was just what we were looking for. Very humble homey/neighborhood vibes. Quiet place with big posters above highlighting their special dishes. We ordered the house tofu and spare ribs that everyone mentioned and really enjoyed them both. Super savory and tender, a cozy warm dish - so good, my friend just had to give the table next to us a bite! Lots of fresh veggies in the cashew chicken that we all enjoyed to balance the beige foods! I also ordered garlic string beans which were very plain, they don't add meat or preserved vegetables for extra flavor. I was very VERY impressed with the food and flavors here. Unlike other Chinese restaurants, the food is not super salty, you could easily have a spoonful of the tofu sauce (no it's not mapo tofu) without rice. But again, why would you want to do that? Speaking of the tofu, it is made in house and the silky and bouncy texture was just mind blowing. They fry it before pouring over a delicious sauce made of pork and other seasonings. Everything else was good too. Ribs were glazed (but not overly sweet) and tender, and the beef chow fun was delicious. Not salty too. And the beef chunks were juicy and soft. I went for dinner on a week day around 7pm. When we left at around 7:40, the place was packed with Chinese and non-Chinese people. Always a good sign. Lots of parking spots on the back. Service was nice and quick. I had a play to catch, but it was enough time to sit, eat and leave in 40minutes. Generally speaking based on the several times I've been here, I get the impression that the menu items that have pictures along the wall tend to be the better items. Dishes I liked: Home made tofu - amazing texture, crispy outside and soft inside with a savory black bean sauce. Literally my favorite dish here and the rest I come here. Fish filet with spicy salt - excellent soft texture with crispy outside. I wish it had more white pepper seasoning, but overall still good. Dishes that were fine but I would not get again: Eggplant - taste was excellent, but the skin was a bit too tough and thick Walnut shrimp - taste is fine, but the shrimp wasn't crispy at all, just soggy and drenched in the sauce Shanghai style pork ribs - excellent taste, but I wish it were cooked a bit longer so it's more tender Dishes I didn't like: Beef chow fun - nothing special, the noodles weren't chewy, a bit over cooked and soggy. Everything needed a bit more salt / flavor IMO, but it was still delicious over some hot white rice. It was about $60 after tax and tip for those four dishes, pretty good value for the portions as well. I recommend calling ahead if you're ordering to go as they were ready within 15 minutes of me placing a phone order. Keep in mind that there are about two staff members who are answering phones, taking in person orders from diners, bringing out the dishes and bussing them back, so they run a tight ship here and it might be a bit difficult to get their immediate attention. Located just on the edge of Chinatown. Parking available on the street. I noticed a parking lot in the rear but not sure if free. Family owned restaurant and they're super friendly here. Got three dishes (see pics) and all of them were excellent. Their house special tofu is a high light. Never had a tofu dish like this. It's a whole piece of tofu and a sauce that is delicious! Any left over sauce I used it up with a bowl of rice. Definitely get this dish if you come in. I was also impressed with their sesame chicken. It was breaded nicely and was addictive in taste. I kept nibbling on pieces after I was full. Chinatown has changed over the years as it is more gentrified. I'm glad there's still a few places that remind me of the old school Chinatown and this is one of those places. I was immediately seated when I entered on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered a variety of dishes to try. The string beans with garlic is a classic dish. I liked the crispiness of the beans, and the garlic flavor was fragrant. The shrimp with pepper salt was phenomenal. Every piece had a flaky exterior with a soft interior. The pepper salt added a nice kick to the shrimp. Jade Wok has a dish called "Homemade Best Tofu in Town." I would have to agree with the name of the dish - it was simply the silkiest, softest, best tofu in Chinatown and probably across Los Angeles. The tofu is freshly made and smothered in a savory, rich sauce. I would come back to Jade Wok solely for this tofu dish. Tried the sesame chicken for the first time and it was crisp but tender and a large portion. The "famous" dish is the house special tofu. I don't know what they put in the sauce, but I wish they would bottle it - so good! The people are friendly and check in on you well. This place is legit and I've had a lot of Cantonese food in my life (being Cantonese Chinese)! My family has been going here for years. It's one of the few remaining good restaurants in LA Chinatown. The owners are very friendly and portions are huge. The homemade tofu is as good as everyone says. It has a slightly crispy edge and is covered with savory ground pork sauce. My son doesn't like tofu but he loved the sauce over rice. My brother really enjoys the bitter melon with shredded pork.
