As Yang Chow devotees, we needed to be real when going to Chinatown on New Year's Parade day. We trialed Broadway Cuisine for its ease of success despite crowds. It's a large venue with a lot of tables, both private rooms and open floor. The staff were very courteous and efficient. They had a very extensive menu and we ordered a large array of items. The guy who invented Chow Fun had some fun designing the traffic patterns in Chinatown which is best described as a mish mash of smashed fender benders. Fortunately, if you figure out where and why Waze wants you to go where and when, there it is, a large free parking lot that the restaurant owns. My favorite dish is served...Free Fo Me. Enter into the huge dining room as brightly lit as an Urgent Care with all the charm of an industrial laundry. However, the room is spotlessly clean and so big you'll hardly notice the two Aunties shelling two huge tubs of Peas like Automatons. Shelling an Everest of Peas was the best way to keep warm as the dining room is cold enough to cure a Peking Duck. In all fairness, you'll warm up like a swaddled Baby as soon as you begin to chow down. While you settle in you can take a silent cooking class from the overhead Flat Screen. Orange Chicken...check. The salient feature of Broadway Cuisine is that you can show, eat and go and still make the Laker game with ease. Order and the dishes start to arrive as fast as you can pour some complimentary Tea. Nothing comes from a 55 gallon drum under a heat lamp. It's all made to order. That eliminates takeaway troubles like searching for the missing piece of to go Moo Shu Pork lurking in the toe kick in your overpriced apartment cramped kitchen. The Staff: "Boss" was amusing, efficient and the Boss with the Hot Sauce. She immediately appeared with arm loads of whatever I asked for. Who doesn't appreciate that? Who goes there? At 4:30 PM on a Tuesday...just me. There were more Servers than Patrons, and there were only two Servers...serving just me. The Food: You could blind fold a Chimp and let him poke the menu in five places and you're sure to dine well with his choices. A comprehensive menu offers all the Cantonese usual suspects all done well as the Kitchen has had plenty of experience cooking these dishes for years. Everything is prepared to order from the simple and mundane (Vegetable Egg Rolls) to more complex fare. (Three Delicacies Kung Pao). Each plate is piled high enough warrant requesting pitons, oxygen bottles and 200 feet of Nylon rope. The Vegetables Egg Rolls were encased in deep fried Wonton Wrappers. These Rolls were as crunchy as Egg Shells and deliciously creamy inside. Each Roll was at least half the size of Fidel Castro's Splendido Cigar and still substantial. Definitely a great way to begin your meal. Next up was The Three Delicacies Kung Pao which included lovely tender, juicy Shrimp, curls of Soy braised Filet Mignon, and Chimp foot sized Fish Filets along with Bell Peppers, Onions and plenty of Dried Chili Peppers. It wasn't as much spicy hot as it was tangy. Time to order some Brown Rice so you can convince yourself you really are eating healthy, and you actually are despite the fact that it's just you eating for two. The Fish Filets in Bean Sauce cried out for those little thin Pancakes that come with the Moo Shu Pork or at least perhaps a Flour Tortilla. Instead I shoveled it in like a robotic arm in a car assembly plant. The highlight was their version of Singapore Fried Vermicelli. It was a pile of tangled pasta with toothsome Shrimp, Juicy BBQ'd Pork, Bell Peppers, Onions, Scrambled Eggs and lot's of S & B Japanese Curry Powder. The Noodles were dry fried and mixed with everything while each component maintained it's integrity. This dish was perfect to eat there or box up and take home to mix with two runny sunny side up Eggs the next morning. Broadway Cuisine turned out to be a cookin' machine. read more

Came here on a Tuesday and the outside seems a little sketch, but it's a gem hole in the wall restaurant. There's a sign that states parking on the side of the restaurant, but I didn't see it so I parked at a near lot ($10) When we walked in, we were greeting by a sweet lady who sat us immediately. Very nice dinner here and Lisa was a great help to us while ordering. The steamed shrimp and su mai are both great starters and we also enjoyed the shrimp in lobster sauce and pan fried noodles with shrimp and pork. The peking duck was cooked perfectly and we were glad to share a half portion. Also loved the string beans with garlic. Humiliated on Mother's Day The food at Broadway Cuisine is genuinely excellent -- that's the only reason this isn't zero stars. But what happened during this visit was completely unacceptable, and I feel I owe it to other diners to be honest about it. We came in for a Mother's Day dinner with family. From the start, the service was neglectful -- our waiter never once refilled my water glass, no one checked on us to ask how the food was, and we were seated directly next to the bathroom. Then it got worse. The moment I signed the receipt -- with a $20 tip on it -- the waiter snatched it up and began shouting at me in the middle of the restaurant saying "TIP TOO SMALL!!! YOU NEED PAY TIP!!!" He couldn't find a moment all evening to refill my water or check on our table, but the second that receipt was signed, he was right there. What he didn't know, and didn't bother to ask, was that I had cash in hand ready to add another $25 on top -- which would have been close to a 45% tip total. He never gave me the chance. He just erupted, in front of my entire family, on Mother's Day. Nothing justifies that. Not the tip amount, not anything. A server does not get to publicly humiliate a customer over money, period. Stopped in on a late afternoon on a Sunday. The place wasn't busy and we were seated right away. It's pretty much your typical Chinese restaurant. For me, this has almost become synonymous with Diet Coke by the can. Everything was clean, although a little worn. The table clothes were laid on top of each other so all the needed to do to set the table is rip the dirty one off and a clean one is right there underneath! One area they get bonus points for is most dishes that are hot can be made without the hot spices. Therefore, I enjoyed my orange chicken. Service was also as expected, short, and curt, and we had to remind them to bring my Diet Coke (in a can). The food arrived super fast which we liked because we were hungry. This place brings me back to the Chinatown of my youth - in a good way! Extensive menu with a good weekday lunch special, and many of the dishes I like. Tried the mushu pork, which I haven't had in years, and it was very satisfying. Just wish it came with more wraps. The kung pau chicken had a lot of chicken and the fish with black bean sauce had large pieces of really good fish. I like these two dishes a little better at our local Chinese place, but that's just a matter of preference for more spiciness. The steamed chicken was really tender with a light but tasty sauce. Chinatown isn't what it used to be, but there's still a few places that still serve good ole Cantonese style food. A decent amount of free parking for customers can be found along the side and back. Interior is clean and looks recently remodeled. Good service and workers are attentive and helpful. All dishes came out quickly and hot. We ordered several items, and each one was delicious. I haven't had moo shu pork in years and it brought back a lot of good memories. The food here is good and authentic. The place looks alright, it has some nice lighting but there's a weird odor that I was picking up after a while, not sure if it was the food but it a bit musty. Prices? About average, some items seemed more than other restaurants. Unfortunately the food was not that good, we ordered a numerous amount of dishes and some of them turned out to be on the cold side, dishes were not so clean with what looked like food stains on it, the table we had was sticky as well. The customer service was okay, kind of the slow side and quiet, didn't feel very welcomed. Not sure if it was the owner, but the smell of someone who walked past us smelled very foul. I haven't written a review yet but this was a place where I felt it was necessary to save other people the headache of coming here. Came here on a Monday around 8 pm. Luckily we got a free meter right outside. The inside wasn't busy, only a few parties compared to the large grand space they had. The inside is bright with tall ceilings, carpeted floor, large round tables with lazy Susan's for groups and big comfy booths lining the walls. The women working were friendly and efficient. One spoke a bit of mandarin with me. The group ordered mostly American Chinese dishes that they enjoyed and nearly finished. I ordered xiao long bao for the table and they were pretty good for the price. They were piping hot and juicy. Hot tea was complimentary but their Thai tea also slaps! Very big restaurant and with a very big menu!!! So many options! We came here on a late Tuesday night around 9pm. The restaurant was pretty empty with only about 4 tables occupied. Our service here was extremely welcoming and the waitress was helpful when allowing us to be creative with our string bean order and adding customizations. Our food came out quick and steamy! The xio long bao was tasteful just very thick layer of dough wrapping the dumplings. The overall portions of the entrees were massive. The ambiance is very casual and decorations are very traditional. Their round tables seemed like those typical dim sum styled seating and they also had comfy booths. We had two Thai teas which were pretty good and we enjoyed their complimentary hot green tea. Typical Chinese restaurant where servers are not really interested in their customers, there's a large menu with plenty to choose from to make everyone happy. We are ordered fish filet with black bean sauce which was pretty good but I did not see and any black bean sauce. Their "special pepper steak was also very good. Their roasted duck was pretty dry - so skip it. Their garlic noodles were quite tasty as was their pan fried noodles. Spicy eggplant was not spicy, fried rice was ok.... One of us wanted sweet and sour pork which I cringe at even ordering but it turned out pretty good actually. So, all around, good ok. Nothing great but decent. Place is clean and spacious which made it easier for the 2 kids that weee with us . The good thing is they have a parking lot at back, enter from Broadway right beside the restaurant. Haven't been to Chinatown since 2018 - pre-covid. So we decided, instead of going all the way to SGV let's give DTLA a try. Sorry, but Chinatown is in dire need of some TLC - it literally feels like it's falling apart and abandoned. The extra 20 minutes to drive anywhere in SGV is so much more worth it. read more

Came to Broadway Cuisine and had their set 9 course menu. First off, I have to say each of the dishes were terrific and spot on. What can I say, this is what Chinese food is suppose to be about. We started off with the seafood soup, which was a refreshing start to the meal. Without finishing the soup, each of the other courses came out one after the another fairly quickly and my eye (and stomach) welcomed the sight of each dish. The egg tofu with vege was the standout for me, but likely because I'm a fan of tofu generally. The house special beef steak, scallops, and fish fillet with black bean sauce were very close seconds. The only item that we thought we didn't need was the vege fried rice, not because it wasn't good but, with so much food (due to their generous portions), we just felt it wasn't necessary. Service was prompt and very responsive. The dining area was clean and welcoming but you can smell cleaning solutions in the bathroom. Parking can be a challenge as the restaurant, although having their own lot, it is very small and some people would double park. The server said that he thought we already ordered. The didn't even knew who had been served and who hadn't. 4. The food was mediocre. Fried cream cheese wonton had not filling at all. I felt like I was just eating chips. Shrimp with honey walnut was at least okay. I wouldn't say it was the best but at least it was good. The best item that we got was the cucumber salad. I have been a loyal customer for years. When the restaurant burned down, I donated to the online fundraiser. I took many customers to this restaurant, but man, I have been so disappointed. A few weeks ago i went through a terrible experience. I always tip, but this time I was leaving it in cash, since I was forced to pay via card, I thought to myself, hey, I want their tips to be service fee free. To my surprise, I was scolded by two different servers. The server threw the cash at me and was upset I didn't leave it in the credit card. I was leaving more than the 18% in cash, and yet it was thrown at me because I didn't want to leave it in the credit card receipt. We used to visit this place every week, but now it has been weeks, and I will not come here anymore. read more

Many years ago we took our little children then to visit our friends in LA and we went to the Plum Tree. This year we wanted to meet our friends again at this restaurant, but now it became Broadway Cuisine. We like the restaurant and food there before and now, the place is bigger and nicer if I recalled since our kids are all much older now. Our friends are older and their kids are all grown up. Nothing beats a nice reunion with the same great food. There are parking in the back which is nice. The prices are still reasonably inexpensive for the food they served. Our friends ordered all the dishes they liked like Mooshu pork, beef, lomein, Tsingtao and sapporo beer, and we had a feast. The wor wonton soup was excellent, the broth was just right with plenty of meat and shrimps, everyone liked it, just like before. The mooshu beef is quite different and tasty from what we used to "pork", we had both with extra pan cakes. The pan cakes here are quite big and thick compare to the one we eat at Hongkong near home. The shrimps in garlic sauce was so delicious and the chicken with fresh mushrooms and bamboo was excellent. All the fried rice dishes are excellent, from veggies, to pineapple to special. Everyone loved them, that's the most important thing. We had so much fun and hungry, we forgot to take pictures of individual dishes LOL. Next time when we visit. This place was able to accommodate a party of 40 (we had made a reservation in advance) with little to no issues, and serve us all without any problems. Just for that alone, they deserve the 5 stars but let me expand a bit on all of the other stuff they did well. The food was amazing. Cooking for 40 people (we were all split into 4 tables of 10 people in each table) is no easy feat. They handled all of our requests and were able to serve us with no problems. My table ended up paying around 30 bucks per person (a couple of them left early, so it ended up being split amongst 8 of us) but we truly had a FEAST (I only attached pictures of some of the family-style plates that we ordered, I missed some other ones). The ambiance is great. Big, spacious, clean, neat and tidy restaurant. The bathrooms were impeccable too. Formally known as the Plum Tree Inn, Broadway Cuisine 'serves authentic Chinese food located in the heart of Chinatown Los Angeles.' Well I don't know how authentic it is, but it does taste good. When available, I always order the XLB, or the Steamed Juicy Pork Dumplings. These were juicy and had some good flavor, but they didn't have any ginger or vinegar. I also had to ask for a Chinese spoon (they just gave me a flat table spoon). The Szechuan Spicy Wontons in Red Oil were excellent, although I could have used more heat in the spice department. The House Special Beef Steak in Black Pepper Sauce, Kung Pao Chicken Lo-Mein and the Vegetable Fried Rice were all good and tasty. In general, the spice level could have been considerably hotter. All the dishes had huge serving portions and I had leftovers for a couple of days. The service was very friendly but slow, and Broadway Cuisine is not the cleanest restaurant I've been to.
