Spicy Firm Tofu With A Seasonal Green Vegetable
Steve A.

Came for lunch at this DTLA Chinese restaurant and it turned out to be good. It can be pricy but that's to be expected for many places around here. The New Moon has lots of the Chinese classics along with some more modern things. Good mix of Americanized and more traditional items. Prices may be the only complaint, but the portions kind of make up for these it seems. At lunch it wasn't that busy. It's not a big place, but there's enough room for plenty of enough tables inside. The menu has many of the so called Americanized favorites, and those looking for more traditional offerings can also find these. It's about $20 for an entree. Ouch. The good thing is the big portions. Kind of makes up for it. We got some of the things good for vegetarians. Has quite a lot to choose among. I got Spicy Firm Tofu With A Seasonal Green Vegetable. Good and the spiciness was hot enough. This was tossed in a light spicy brown sauce. As for the green vegetable, it was broccoli. There was plenty enough to take a bit home. For sure we could come back. It's pricy but the portions are big and it's like getting a couple meals. There's spicy entrees with many choices for vegans and vegetarians.

Ordered mabo tofu, got this soup [looks like hot and sour soup], tasted fine, just not what I ordered lol. Vegetable dumplings were soggy and clumped together.

A delicious hide away

I love the Montrose location, so after an early afternoon in the garment district, my friend and I popped in for lunch at this location. Now to be fair, this is a comparison of the Montrose location that I love. The open concept of seeing the food prep is nice in theory, however having the kitchen prep workers making eyes at me more than once was less than flattering and bordered on obnoxious and aggressive. You know when someone is looking at you, made for an annoying experience. The restroom is located down a long hall and you have to get a key to access it. Totally understandable... but again, another unpleasant feature. The chinese chicken salad is always a winner.. My friend ordered something the moo shu pork, it was not memorable... they do not prepare it at the table at this location. I'm a big fan of New Moon and will continue to support the other locations... but downtown, not a fan, won't be back.

Chicken Salad with a little more than a teaspoon of dressing. I asked for extra dressing. BTW, no dressing on the salad! SAD!

I ordered Chinese Chicken Salad and Spicy Wings. Chinese Chicken Salad, I asked for extra salad dressing and received a little more than a teaspoon of dressing, you can see the very small container in the picture. For me what makes the Chinese Chicken Salad good is the dressing, so this was a waste of money, and to think I actually called the restaurant to request no peanuts and extra dressing for the salad, I also asked for all flats for the wings. They honored my request for no peanuts and all flats, but what I really needed was extra dressing. I ordered delivery through GrubHub, after placing my order, I received a message stating, the restaurant would take it from there and if I had any questions or concerns about my order to call the restaurant directly because they don't use GrubHub for delivery. Weird because I placed the order through GrubHub. I haven't decided if I would order from this restaurant again because I would want the Chinese Chicken Salad, but a teaspoon of dressing doesn't do it for me. I would definitely not order the wings again, absolutely no flavor or spice at all. It's a shame because the little bit of dressing I did receive for the salad was really good. One more thing, the salad could definitely use some scallions.

The best chicken salad around downtown LA. Plum sauce is tasty. All food portions are generous and the prices are reasonable.

It got ridiculously expensive. They knocked it out of the park expensive for simple Chinese food.

I hadn't been here in years (15, in fact, which was when my last review went up), but the line was very familiar. We shared: - Urth Farmer's Salad - Full Tuna sandwich (came with side salad which was quite sizable) Everything was super-fresh and generously portioned. More than enough for two people. If we'd known the sandwich came with a side salad we probably wouldn't have ordered a whole 'nother salad, but the farmers market salad was so good I'm glad we did! I also got an iced latte, which really hit the spot. The friendly and efficient staff expertly handled the crowds, which was sizable. We were hoping for a seat out on the patio since it was a nice day, but seating was limited so we sat at one of the small tables inside by the fireplace. It was just ok, but we had a nice time nonetheless.

The smoked salmon was silky and delicately smoky, with a clean, buttery finish that paired perfectly with the medium poached eggs. The prosciutto was thinly sliced, delicately savory, and melt-in-your-mouth tender -- adding just the right refined saltiness without overpowering the dish. Both plates were beautifully presented and generously portioned. The Rising Sun Latte was smooth and balanced, and the matcha latte was creamy and authentically earthy -- you can really taste the quality. Stylish yet relaxed atmosphere, friendly service, and consistently fresh ingredients. A reliable go-to brunch spot in Downtown LA. Will definitely return!

My gf mentioned the seats were uncomfortable. They were definitely hard. Maybe it's a place where you're not meant to stay too long? Haha I liked that this place is away from the hustle and hustle, like your own secret white wall garden haha Theres limited seating and great for pairs. It's a small outdoor space so it's easy to hear over conversations if you sit too close? But overall, we enjoyed the items we got, service, the space and our time together. So much white, my gf said it reminded her of Greece. Be prepared to feel under-layered when entering Dover Street Market. Everyone seems to be wearing ten thousand layers here. I love the edgy and creative pieces in there! But definitely not a place within my budget to splurge at. Undercover anit-mall feeling type of boutique store? The art and style of retail display to devor is alot of fun. The restroom could be smelly as it didn't seem like there was ventilation when I visited it. The toilet paper was partially soaked? Not a very functional restroom with even it's faucet fixtures. Across the street is Lot 613 where burner Halloween parties years back when the art district didn't exist yet or at least expand so far. Great events space.
