In Korea, this dish is usually paired with soju.

I'm a tourist from Korea. Sun-nongdang is a restaurant that serves non-localized Korean cuisine, from side dishes to main dishes. The staff's level of hospitality is excellent, and I think it's the only restaurant that has paid a gratifying tip. The atmosphere of entering the door was just Korea itself. It is highly recommended for locals who do not have time to travel to Korea, and for travelers who miss their hometown's food from Korea. Summary - Kinda most sexiest food or restaurant in california. It can be expressed as the word brilliant. (I visited this restaurant three times during my trip for 8 nights and 9 days.) If you have a chance, try Sikhye, a rice drink, for dessert after finishing your meal! One of the traditional Korean desserts, this restaurant sells Sikhye!

Popular and 5 stars for a reason! The team here is incredibly efficient, so even when it's busy, the wait moves fast. This is likely their most spacious location, with plenty of seating to go around. I usually go for the ox knee soup, but this time we shared the beef cheek soup and the #25 (Koh Gabi JJim) with added cheese and rice cakes. The highlight was definitely the tableside torching of the cheese plus it pairs perfectly with the chewy rice cakes! Pro Tip: Valet is available in the lot ($2 lunch / $5 dinner). If you're out of cash, they conveniently accept Zelle at the valet stand.

Hearty, hot, beef soups! Great service. Really appreciate the staff explaining the menu.

Sun Nong Dan really doesn't need another review, but it's popular for a reason. I would always come here growing up and was forced to order the ox knee bone soup because it's apparently very healthy and also a hard dish to make and find in the US. I didn't enjoy it too much when I was younger, but I ordered it using free will today and it was a lot better than I remembered! Maybe my taste buds have matured...it's definitely an acquired gelatinous texture but I would recommend you give it a try. All that collagen probably does wonders for your skin! The soup is scalding hot savory bone brothiness. Most people like to add salt because the soup itself is a little plain, but I personally think it's perfect as is, and all the different kimchis they give you balance it out We went for their morning special which is really a great deal- four soup options on their menu for $11.99, you really can't find this anywhere in LA. A lot of the morning crowd were older Korean people, who all looked like they were enjoying their breakfasts and are probably all regulars here. I would definitely be a regular if I lived closer to here, but if you're in the area and willing to wake up early, would definitely recommend! I have to come back to try the galbijjim with cheese here but that seemed a little too crazy to order at 9 AM lol.

Only waited outside for less than 15 minutes even when it looked like a long line. Great service, so kind and very fast. Kimchi was truly delicious, I appreciated all the sides. #17 was so yummy. A nice soup broth with super yummy meat that I basically made into a rice bowl with broth seasoned rice. It was so delicious, you can customize it how you want. I wanna try that cheese plate next time!

Everyone recommended this place to me when I said I was visiting K-town and I can see why! The whole dining experience was great. There's $5 valet parking right next door so we didn't have to worry about circling around for parking. We got here a little earlier so the wait was only about 10 minutes for a party of 2. Ordering was quick and easy and the service was great! The Galbi Jjim is their most known dish, and it lived up the hype! The portions were big, with generous amounts of meat too!

After attending a concert at the wiltern the previous night, I woke up craving some soup. I looked at the places near my hotel, and discovered this place! I went in the morning and got seated immediately with no wait. The restaurant was clean and the staff were diligent. I got the brisket soup as I didn't want something too spicy. They served the soup with some delicious Korean sides. The soup is initially plain so you can adjust the salt level to your taste by adding salt from the mini-salt jar. The soup came with a lot of brisket and a good amount of glass noodles. I had a great time enjoying the meal, and was very full afterwards. This place has great portions of food and sides, and they taste fresh and yummy. This place is wonderful, and I will try to come back to this place next time I come back to LA!

Visited: 4/8/26 Soh Muh Ri Gom Tang / Beef Cheek Soup ($19.99) = 5/10 This was pretty expensive for what was served. The soup was extremely bland and lacked the rich, hearty flavor the menu described. They provide salt, pepper, and green onions so you can season it yourself, which is traditional and explained on the menu, but even after adding everything, it still tasted very watered down. The beef cheek was overcooked and didn't have much flavor either. I ended up adding the side dishes, like kimchi, into the soup just to give it some flavor, and that honestly made it much more enjoyable. In the end, I liked the side dishes more than the actual entrée. It being flavorless was also surprising since the food took a while to come out. Parking: There is parking available behind the restaurant. We went late at night, so it wasn't crowded, but I'm not sure how limited parking might be during busier hours. Atmosphere & Service: We were seated in the back of the restaurant near the cleaning supplies, so there was a strong chemical and damp towel smell that made the experience less pleasant. The servers themselves were efficient and helpful, so no complaints there. Just a heads-up that takeout containers cost extra (around $1). The bathroom was clean and pleasant. The restaurant itself was visually appealing, with an Olaf statue outside that I thought was really cute, and traditional Korean-style artwork inside that added character to the space. There was also a security guard present who came off a bit rude and spent most of the time on his phone.

This place is nuts. First off, it is PACKED! I mean, do that many people go to eat soup? Secondly, what the???? Extra meat? I cannot imagine extra meat in this soup. Let me put it this way, after eating and eating, I still had more meat in my soup than any place in Hawaii would give for the entire bowl. Look, I am giving this 5 stars just for the sheer audacity of making soup like this. The side dishes were good and the service prompt. This place is another well run machine - get you fed FAST. They have restrooms-which you will need after eating all of that soup and meat. I've never had soup like this before. Believe me when I say extra meat is NOT needed! OMG!

No notes this place is worth the inevitable lines!!! The beef bone broth dish with glass noodles was amazing and so was the banchan I just wish I could have had more! Come on an empty stomach the portions are huge.

A staple stop whenever I'm in the ktown area. Giant galbijjim where the beef soaks up all the sauce and seasonings. Meat was sooo tender and melt in your mouth. What's there to not like about cheesy meat, rice cakes, radish, and potatoes? A medium size (meant for 2-3 people) disappeared so fast we wished there was more but it's an amazing hearty and filling meal that will keep you full all day. Service was quick and friendly.

4.5 STARS My frame of reference for 5 stars is BCD Tofu House. I let you know this, to determine whether our values align at all. Galbi Tang - $23.99 - this beef short rib soup is spectacular- my cultural frame of reference is that it's like the Mexican soup, cocido de res. Koh Galbi Jjim - $119.99 for Large Add cheese - $8 Add rice cake - $6 Koh Galbi Jjim is a huge dish of braised beef short ribs, back rib, and oxtail plus delicious cheese and rice cakes and all of the complimentary banchan. We chose a medium spice level. In love with the sharing aspect of Korean food culture. Our decision to order Koh Galbi Jjim was inspired by the strangers seated next to us. When those patrons left, a woman sat to dine by herself and remarked at how good our food looked. So we invited her to eat with us-- since it was enough to feed 4-5 people, easily anyways! Great value considering how much food we were able to take home. Leftovers made for some great breakfasts and soups the following day, too. Street parking was available when I went late night. There's also a parking lot (it might be paid parking).

Is there a morning special price for soups?

Yes. Morning special on number of soups before 10am is 11.99

Is the morning special menu still available?

Not in all locations since Covid early morning specials went away at most locations

Is this location more toddler friendly?

Where can I park my car?

There's a plaza just for sun nong dan or you can try to brave street parking.

This location looks like wheelchair accessible, just not sure about the other location , I haven't figured out which one is closer to our hotel. Are both restaurants in Korean town?

Are 2 large orders of galbi jim good for 10 pax?

Yes, I would think so. We typically order one medium for 3-4 people.

Is there an individual or 2 person portion for GalbiJim?

No. But you can get the medium and take home leftovers 😅

Is this place really open 24/7?

Yes and it feels like a club at night (cuz of the music). It's awesome!

What kind of broth is used in the rice cake soup?

But as beef stew goes...it wasn't stew-ish enough. Mostly because it has some strong seasonings, and the pieces of beef were cut really small, so it was more like a beef stir fry. That said, it was really tasty. Very flavorful, and the quality of the beef was good. I can see myself going there again. As for he place itself, the staff were nice, though going at lunch meant they were a little (and understandably) distracted. The website makes it seem like it's just for pick-up or delivery, but they have a couple small tables, both inside and outside. And I do mean small. Two people max. There's also a decent sized parking lot (the place is in a mini mall), and there's usually street parking, but at the moment Wilshire is under construction, so plan accordingly.

There is sometimes street parking but the availability is rough, it's tough to park, and even one of the meters we ended up at just didn't work. They only charge a $5 cash service charge though, which isn't bad. We were lucky to be seated right away, even in a packed restaurant. The restaurant has a surprisingly modern design, and is comfortable for as small as it is. We were quickly served their signature kimchis and barley rice. The kimchi, particularly the yeolmu (young summer radish) kimchi, has a unique flavor profile well suited to their food. We ordered 2 bowls of their plain kalgooksu, 1 bibim milmyun, and 1 tteokbokki. The food came out fairly quickly. The kalgooksu was as expected the star of the show. The anchovy broth brings a savory complexity that seems impossible for a soup made from just dried fish and a few other ingredients. It even has a rich, almost thick, quality to it that is surprising for a fish broth. Their noodles, the titular kalgooksu, have the signature irregularity and chew of knife cut noodles. I appreciate the vegetables that always come in kalgooksu, like potato, pumpkin, and zucchini, which offer an earthy heartiness to the light soup. My only complaint is that the potato is in huge irregular chunks, and is barely cooked, though I feel like I have had this issue with many of the kalgooksu bowls I've had over the years. The bibim milmyun was solid. I think that I prefer the texture and flavor of naengmyeon buckwheat noodles, but the milmyun, which are made with mostly wheat flour, still provide a satisfying chew. The sauce tasted bright and fresh, especially with a splash of added vinegar. It also came with a small side portion of spicy pork and some rice paper to wrap. The tteokbokki was the one let down of the meal. To be fair, I wasn't expecting much out of tteokbokki at all restaurant like this whose specialty is essentially the opposite. I ordered the tteokbokki as a "safe pick" for a picky eater in the group. It turned out to be a bit mediocre in our opinion, and that friend ended up enjoying their kalgooksu anyways. If you're looking to try this dish, it's definitely one of if not the best I've had in Southern California, so I'd totally recommend it. I'll also warn to steer clear of the Garden Grove restaurant of the same name and specialty. I think it's a disappointing mimicry of this place.

When you come in, there is a sign that tells you to order before being seated. My sister and her bf had yet to arrive so I placed a sizeable order for the 4 of us. Luckily, they were there (waiting in the car) so I told them to walk over so we can be seated. I ordered 2 orders of chiayi chicken (1with white rice and 1 with brown rice), 2 orders of thousand layer pancake (1 with egg and 1 with egg and cheese), shrimp wonton, dance dan noodles, wonton noodle soup, hakka mochi and forbidden rice pudding. For drinks we had a few of the shaken iced green teas and 1 taro milk tea (my sister said it didnt taste like taro) Everything was great. I was surprised my sister's bf liked the food. The chiayi chicken was good with a bit of the chili sauce (sambal). The thousand layer pancake was good if you dip it in the black vinegar (mixed with chili oil and a little soy sauce). The shrimp wonton were surprisingly light and tasty. The dan dan noodles was balanced my medium thin sliced cucumber. Everything was portioned very small so you can try everything.we didnt get additional sides because were getting full. The desserts was what I was looking forward to and it did not disappoint. The hakka mochi reminded me of the soy pudding stalls in singapore that had mochi balls filled with a black sesame paste and peanut paste inside. This is what the hakka mochi was but in dry soft chewy form with black sesame and peanut grains to top it off. For my sister, it reminded her of the filipino dessert pichi pichi. The forbidden rice pudding reminded me of a soupy version of the filipino dessert biko. It had chunks of sweet potatoes and tapioca. Also very good but my bias is the hakka mochi. The ambiance was bright, bustling and inviting. Very small tables perfect for a quick bite. Highly recommend if you want a tapas style lunch that doesn't break the bank.

It's been sitting on my saved list for a while, and honestly, this turned out to be the perfect opportunity. The space itself is bright, clean, and welcoming with warm woody tones throughout. Casual setup where you order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. I had already looked through the menu beforehand, so the real challenge was narrowing down what to order for one person. I failed at that... and I'm very happy I did. Started with the Pig Ear Salad 滷豬耳朵. Braised thin sliced pig ears dressed with soy sauce, chili oil, sesame oil, scallion, and cilantro. OMG. So good. Tender, flavorful, perfectly braised, with that satisfying chewy texture done right. Also got the Fried Peanut Salad 五味花生 with garlic, cilantro, scallions, vinegar, and Thai chili. Super crunchy, bright, refreshing, and honestly addicting. I added a cup of the Hot & Sour Soup 酸辣湯 too. Organic tofu, beech mushroom, carrot, bamboo, woodear mushroom, and egg. Super comforting with a really balanced tang and peppery heat. Not overly thick or heavy like a lot of Americanized versions can be. Exactly the kind of soup you want during a long travel day. For noodles, I ordered the Dan Dan Noodles 擔擔麵. Sesame-peanut sauce, cucumber, cilantro, crushed peanuts. Delicious on its own already, but I ended up adding some of the fried peanuts from the salad into the noodles and it became even better. Then the Three Cup Chicken 三杯雞 with sesame oil, soy sauce, rice wine, and Thai basil. I do wish it had a little more wok hei, but overall the flavor was still really comforting and savory. Extremely good with rice. Had a glass of Gewürztraminer alongside everything, which paired surprisingly well with the spice and aromatics. Their wine list leans more organic / natural wine focused, which felt very LA in a good way. Ended up sitting at a high top next to one of the managers and had a great conversation throughout the meal. She ended up hooking me up with the Traditional Shaved Ice 傳統刨冰 with grass jelly, red bean, boba, sweet potato balls, taro balls, brown sugar syrup, and condensed milk. I was already planning to order it anyway, and wow... I finished the entire thing. The brown sugar syrup was incredibly fragrant. Packed the leftovers to-go, and that ended up becoming my dinner after landing in San Francisco later that evening. Flight cancellation somehow turned into a really great food day.

Had a great experience at Sulga House of Beef Bone Soup…read more Their beef bone soup is simple, clean, and really solid, the kind of comfort food that just hits right for the soul. They currently have a great deal at $12, which makes it even better value for what you're getting. The sullungtang comes with rice, soup, and two types of kimchi. Service was friendly and efficient, and the whole experience felt easy and satisfying. Place was chill, not too overly crowded. I've noticed a lot of people ordering other dishes every time I go, so I'm definitely looking forward to trying more of the menu, but I keep coming back for the basics because it's just that good.

Sulga was definitely THE place to be for a warm bowl of bone broth on a rainy night. My friend and…read moreI stopped by for doganitang (for two), and the portions were indeed large - for four. We also added beef brisket since my friend wasn't a big fan of cartilage - more for me! The pot itself wasn't too deep, though there was a good portion of protein cartilage. Also important to note that rice was NOT included! The brisket add on came as a pre-cooked brisket that was added in after, as it didn't initially fit in the pot. The staff member told us at the time that broth refills were free. However, when it came time for refills, they said it was only one time - poor communication. Paying was fairly straightforward, but for future visits, I'd likely just come for their lunch special sullongtang after this experience.

Food (8/10) - The broth itself was absolutely packed with flavor (even with no additions). It had a super clean flavor but had deep umami notes from the chicken. If you want to switch up or add some more to the flavor profile, I recommend adding in some of the gochugaru (Korean chili flake) or some of the salt and pepper. Also, it was overall quite filling! Trying to tackle down a whole chicken is no easy feat (and the broth had a whole chicken in it!!) Highly recommend dipping the chicken in the salt and pepper mix or some of the gochujang. My one complaint about the food would be that the ginger can get super overpowering as you continue eat. Also, there is a date(?) or fig inside the chicken that is kind of a shock explosion of sweetness. Watch out for it. Service (9/10) - Service is great! The owner is super friendly and very attentive. Smiles all around and nothing to complain about! Overall, will give it another visit! I would try one of their meat dishes next time maybe (they have 2).. BUT pretty fire. Try it!

Delicious homey spot with private lot parking. I really liked their kimchi banchan - very flavorful…read more& radish was well fermented. Staff was sweet and efficient throughout the meal. Bathroom was well kept too. Galbi Tang - broth is so yummy. Comes with either purple/white rice and keeps heat well in the bowl. Meat is a little tough but that's what scissors are for. Perfect portion for two or one determined person. Juntong Sullungtang - not a fan of sullungtang after 12 PM; solid sullungtang but underwhelming I love this place with my whole heart. There are days where I swear the galbi tang would fix my entire life. Not a good place for vegetarians, but they can accommodate you (one item on the menu lol). Staff are super sweet. This spot is MILES ahead of the BCD that litters the same strip mall.
