Looking for a healthy vegan meal in Ktown LA? Look no further, come over to Borit gogae. They offer a preset menu but do require minimum of two orders. If you ever had Korean Bibimbop, this is similar but with some minor differences. This one uses a barley rice base (compared to white rice in Bibimbop). The barley rice is topped your choice of about 15 different side dishes of lightly flavored savory mountain roots, greens, mushrooms, and peppers. Comes with a soy bean paste that you use to further season. Just mix everything in a larger bowl and serve. OMG. Absolutely incredible!!!!!!!!!! Before this main course, you do get three small bites (pumpkin porridge, scorched rice/tea, and tempura). Additionally three different sides are also served (acorn jelly salad, Korean escargot/snail dish, steamed cabbage), along with perilla chicken soup, and soy bean soup, the latter which is the most traditional Korean dish. Last for dessert you get red bean porridge, dried persimmon rolls, and plum tea. Nothing like this in all of SoCal. A must come and try for all.

Across the street from the new Zion market is this wonderful and unique Korean eatery. Unlike most of the run-of-the-mill Korean restaurants in Koreatown this restaurant serves unique appetizers and a multi-course set menu that gives you a taste of a variety of authentic Korean village food - like pumpkin porridge and acorn jelly salad. It's a lot of food for the price ($35 pp at this writing). While the minimum order is for 2 people, we've tried sharing the 2-people order among 3 and it worked for us, with addition of a couple of other items from the menu. The Korean BBQ beef is at par with most other nice restaurants in K town; their marinated crab was delicious! Service is okay - given how busy they are! Most servers are not very conversant in English so a little patience would help you get the right things you need. Nice and unique vibe with Korean handicraft items and art work on display (and for sale, I believe).

The four of us ordered 3 of the sets and a bulgogi. There are a lot of veggie forward dishes as part of the set, as well as heartier soups. You can customize what you want to add into your rice bowl to make bibimbap. The portions are generous!

Be prepared to walk away feeling very full. We got the set meal here, which came served with appetizers, barley rice, a lot of banchan (and by that I meant a LOT), soup, congee, dessert, etc. It was definitely more than enough food. We also got an additional order of LA kalbi for some protein. The meat quality was good but I felt like the meat was not marinated long enough and so the flavor was a little bit lacking. If only it just sat in the marinade for a couple more hours, I think this would have been perfect. The tofu soup was not my favorite, to be very honest. There was some flavor in there that made it smell like a stinky towel. Very different from other soondubu soup places and unfortunately not for me. Everything else we had was excellent and I would definitely come back again just for the barley rice and banchan. Service was quick and servers were nice. We also came at 3pm on Saturday so there was no wait. Recommended!

Wife's coworker recommended this place. We came to try this place out. They have this set menu, like a five course meal style. I was amazed by the variety of ingredients to choose. Top quality Korean superfoods. My favorite part was the Korean squash porridge. It took me back to a fond memory of when my great aunt made this for me when I was little. I couldn't help but tear up cause it tasted just like how I remembered. Every part of this set menu took me to a happy place. What a find in k town. I highly recommend this place. Food was amazing .

Despite traveling to the LA area multiple times, we rarely visit Koreatown. We have made multiple attempts to go to this restaurant, but we always ran out of time until now. The wait was worth the reward. The atmosphere inside was warm and welcoming. Set Menu with Barley ~Pumpkin Porridge | Slightly sweet and creamy. ~Banchan | We couldn't keep track of the banchan. The abundance of fresh vegetables made everything taste nutritious. ~Additional Dishes | The chicken porridge reminded us of chicken noodle soup, but more filling. The acorn jelly salad and other fermented dishes were both vibrant and packed with flavors. ~Dessert | Corn porridge with beans was the best sweet porridge dessert ever! Would like to learn to make this at home :) Menu: Aside from the set menu, there were also protein options, such as LA Kalby and Spicy Marinated Crab. Service: The servers were nice and sweet. They were able to accommodate our requests. Parking: Plenty in the parking lot. Highly Recommend!

Good features: - off-street parking lot behind the building - immediately seated (almost every time we go) - warm, friendly staff - interior was extremely home-like and familiar. this place has a very calming ambiance and attitude overall The food: - Set menu for two: we order this prefix meal every time. It's so much food and there are so many unique flavors and textures. Notable favorites: the perilla seed soup, acorn jelly salad, water kimchi, doenjang jjigae and the final piece of Gotgamssam at the end. I was very full but also felt pretty light. They're very sparing on salt and fat on this one. I loved it.

If you are vegetarian you will love this place. I have been here twice and can say that each time I loved it! Their $35 per person set menu is perfect for when you want some healthy, rejuvenating traditional Korean food. For the amount of homemade items you get, it's a great deal. However you want meat, you will have to purchase additional dishes, which can be quite pricey to add on. For $35 you get a huge variety of banchan to mix with a bowl of rice and make your own bibimbap sesame oil and Gochuchang, two different types of soup, kimchi pancakes, fried seaweed, dessert, tea, and so much more. You will definitely have food to take home. The service is prompt and the electric restaurant decor feels a bit like sitting in someone's home. It's great for when you feel like you need a home cooked meal but want to leave feeling stuffed! It can be a bit of a wait on busy days, so try coming during the weekday/off hours.

Omg sooooo good! This is the best Korean food experience I've had in the states. Came with a few friends and we really enjoyed our dinner. We chose the protein we wanted, beef ribs, and everything else was decided for us. multiple courses, variety of banchan brought to the table, side dishes, dessert! Literally everything you need and more. The table was overfilled will food. Really great place to come with friends. I'm from DC but told my friend who's visiting Cali soon to come check Boris Gogae when she is there. Showed her my picture of the table and she is so excited! Really really fantastic meal. I definitely want to come back. Also the place is super cute! It's like a little tea house and the staff are so sweet!

Literally the biggest meal I've ever had oh my god. I felt like it was never ending since they just kept bringing out food. The chicken soup, barley tea, bulgogi, and kimchi salads were my favorite. I also really enjoyed the plum juice and the red bean corn desserts! If I were to go back I'd just order the bulgogi, but I'd recommend getting the platter one time because it is really a great deal and fun to try everything!

The Set Menu with Barley Rice at Borit Gogae comes with a variety of vegetables, banchan, soups, acorn jelly salad, pumpkin porridge, kimchi pancake, and so many little dishes. The barley rice is the perfect base to mix everything together into a customized bibimbap.

Oh, Borit Gogae, why does this sound so familiar! I couldn't say no when our friend group decided on doing dinner here... thankfully we got here at 5pm, beating the dinner rush. Note that parking is valet and $4. Venmo, Zelle, or cash. However, note that it may not be super safe. The keys were in the car, and the windows were down. The food itself? Amazing. We had their set menu as well as LA beef ribs, grilled spareribs, and napa wraps with pork. The set menu was quite possibly one oft he healthiest meals I've eaten, and the variety of side dishes for a personal bibimbap with unlimited barley rice was quite possibly the loudest my older vegetarian in had been excited in many years. There were a variety of soups, porridge too, and snail (yes, not fully vegetarian) too which I enjoyed. The additional foods (all protein) were also all delicious, though the LA beef ribs were a tad too saucy and lightly burnt (they usually are). The pork was fun to eat with the cabbage, too. By the time our green plum tea came, we were STUFFED, barely able to get it down. Paying was super easy, and packing takeaways was a DIY experience. The staff were all friendly and informative of what to order as well as the communicative that everyone orders at least one dish, even if they're only staying for a small part of the meal.

If you are looking for a healthy meal, this is right spot for you. This restaurant is serving authentic Korean barley rice with bunches side dishes and soups. The menu is set and I'll include the menu in the picture. The host is very hospitable and welcoming and checking us all the time They have their own parking lot so it is very convenient and no sweat There are so many paintings and some plates and cups decorated at the wall and side The set menu also includes the dessert and a cup of tea I feel fully recharged with love and joy

    How is the parking?

They have free parking in the lot behind the restaurant where you enter or street parking. You do not enter the restaurant from the street.

    Do they take reservations?

No. It's first come first serve basis.

Does any of the food contain peanuts?

I don't think so. Maybe one of the side dishes do, but it's pretty peanut free. There are sesame seeds this. Chicken and shell fish too.

Are there vegetarian options on the banchan menu, please?

Yes. Most of the ban Chan is vegetarian. Two items are seafood. You should ask if they use shrimp in their kimchee but they all seemed vegetarian to me. You should not get the set since the soup is chicken

Other than the dessert with the walnut, do the other food items contain any form of tree nut? my husband has a tree nut allergy.

    No, no tree nuts.

If you order set banchan menu, can you get a free refill?

I'm afraid it's not refilled as it is part of the main manu called Jung-sik. Banchan is not a side dishes.

On our latest visit we took the Metro, exited at Wilshire/Normandie Station, and walked 8 minutes over. The restaurant seems to have updated their décor to a more modern and new look since my last visit. Also they have introduced a lot of new menu items, so it felt like an appropriate time to update my review and renew my support for the business. On prior visits I have tried both the Clam Kalguksu ($22.99) and the Chicken Kalguksu ($22.99). Both are delicious depending on what protein you are craving. The broth is incredible soothing and great for a cold day or just anytime you need comfort food. The noodles are chewy and pillowy soft, it just melts in your mouth. When we arrived on our latest visit it was as busy and popular as I remembered. We were lucky that they were able to seat us right away. This latest visit my boyfriend and I tried new items from their menu. My boyfriend had the Tokmanuguk ($20.99) which has rice cakes, dumplings, beef, egg, and carrot in their anchovy broth. I had the Chicken Jook ($23.99) which is the Korean version of a chicken porridge that comes with half a small chicken, green onions, garlic, toasted sesame seeds, squash, onions and topped off with a smidge of sesame oil. Our meals came with a little palette cleansing introduction of barley rice. Just a few bites, but it sets up your tastebuds for the meal. They also had some side dishes for the table. The food took a while to come out, but understandable for how busy they are. This food is made with love and your patience will be rewarded. When it came, it was SO DELICIOUS! I tried a bit of my boyfriend's food and it was so comforting. Perfect for those who like the chewiness of the Korean rice cakes or dumplings. I just love my chicken porridge a little more cause I'm obsessed with porridge whenever I can get it. I love how much vegetables Koreans are able to hide in their porridge while making the veggies so tiny, you won't even notice it. So healthy, delicious, and soothing. It was like a hug for my soul. Also, the portion was huge and both my boyfriend and I had a portion togo that was the size of another meal. You can't go wrong with their food here. I definitely want to make an effort to come back more often. Until next time!

Me and friend started with drinks at the bar - I got the hwachae milk punch, a pretty pink sip! My friend got the espresso martini, their take made with cold brew soju, Korean coffee mix, and makgeolli. Both were fun, well-balanced ways to kick off the night. Their honey butter chips were pretty delectable - fresh-cut potato, fried until crunchy and airy, then drizzled with a honey butter glaze that channels those nostalgic honey butter chip snacks. The sauce was good but can definitely be a sweetness overload, so if you don't have a sweet tooth, I would avoid ordering. Got the pine nut cold noodles, which was refreshing on a summer day - white noodles in a chilled soy milk broth with pine nut. The pine flavor was pretty subtle, so if you're into that, definitely get this, but for me it was just okay. The pork jowl was delicious though - comes with chili crisp and garlic rice, and we ended up taking some home because we couldn't finish it all! Service was great - we sat at the bar and got to watch the bartender work and chat. Parking can be hit or miss; you can either park in the several garage structures around ktown or the small paid lot in the Danbi plaza, but we came on a Thursday night and it was still pretty busy. Overall, a 9/10 meal with good vibes, cute drinks, and delicious food. Already dreaming about trying the galbi next time I'm here!

Although I understand they were busy, I was not happy. Food came out all at once instead of as listed in the set course on the menu which was super overwhelming. If you're searching for some of the city's best pork, then those in the know will bring up Ham Ji Park. For 2 decades, generous platters of pork ribs and pork neck stew decked every table. Now, our Korean friends lament the loss of their favorite pork joint in the city. The Koreatown proper location is located in the Royal Plaza mini-mall, just a few blocks off bustling Wilshire. Discounted parking is available in a lot across the street from the Chevron gas station. From the street, the entrance is flanked by potted plants and an enclosed street-ery. Inside, stainless steel chairs are pressed up against wooden tables, each outfitted with a metal grill. Oppressive fluorescent lighting shines down on the stone grey walls, which are left undecorated apart from a few flatscreens. Multi-lingual chatter blends with the sizzle of platters. I visited with some friends for a weeknight dinner, and about half of the tables were occupied. We shared a spread of grilled platters and sizzling soups. The meal began with a carafe of barley tea and a mostly standard spread of banchan. Across our food, the best dish was the signature Charbroiled Pork Spare Rib. The ribs were flavorful without feeling gamey, and the meat was complemented by sweet caramelized onions. The pork ribs handily outdid the good-not-great Charbroiled Beef Short Rib. Lastly, the Milt and Cod Rose with Vegetables stew was fishy and briny, appropriately flavored for the Korean palate. The service was appropriately attentive, although I would've appreciated more intentional refills of our banchan ramikens. The rib plates cost upward of $35 each, while the soup was just under $30. The portions were hearty; a single entree platter could reasonably feed 2 moderately hungry bellies. It's a shame to hear that Ham Ji Park has closed; I'm kicking myself for not trying their pork neck stew earlier.

This used to be my #1 spot for cold noodles but our other fav place was closed today so we decided to come here. As you can see, the size of the cold noodles became smaller. Everything was packed in this small bowl which made it harder to eat. I think they changed the noodles they use because it wasn't doing anything texture wise. It used to be chewy and had a good buckwheat flavor. The broth tasted.. like water with a splash of bone broth. The quality of galbi was also a disappointing as I feel like it's became less and the meat was burnt with more fat/chewy bits. The leek pancake was ok but again, comparing it to my picture from January, it was bigger in size and more dough-y. Service was decent previously but it felt a bit cold today. Again, super bummed because we still love this place but I probably won't be ordering their combo again. You can see in my pictures how often we used to order the cold noodles from here and you can compare the quality.

Hae Jang Chon is the way to go if you're looking for some quality Korean barbecue for AYCE! This…read morespot is known for their traditional flat stone than the metal grill that you see at other spots. We got reservations for a Monday night and it was a little more than half capacity. We were 5 people at 7pm. When we got in, we were welcomed right away with a table set up with our side dishes, plates with sauces and utensils. There were at least 6-7 different side dishes like garlic spinach, kimchi, spicy cucumbers, bean sprouts, mashed potatoes, spicy fish cakes and bean sprouts. We ordered a bunch of items including the Beef tongue, Beef brisket, Marinated short rib (Galbi), Pork Jowl and Chicken. The beef tongue was by far the tastiest because it was not overly marinated. I liked the pork jowl too because of its chewiness and you can grill it longer to make it crispy. The marinated short ribs were good too. Since the servers cook the meats for you, and when they cook the ribs, they take the bone off too! We requested the bone in since it makes the meat tastier! For sides, we also order the salad and some cheesy corn. The salad was refreshing. Unfortunately the cheesy corn was a bit too creamy for me. I think less cream and more cheese would have made it better. All, don't skip out on the kimchi fried rice at the end. They toss in some rice, sour kimchi, seaweed and cheese. The server even made a heart for us! The rice soaks up all the meat juices on the stone that makes it more tastier!
