Literally the biggest meal I've ever had oh my god. I felt like it was never ending since they just kept bringing out food. The chicken soup, barley tea, bulgogi, and kimchi salads were my favorite. I also really enjoyed the plum juice and the red bean corn desserts! If I were to go back I'd just order the bulgogi, but I'd recommend getting the platter one time because it is really a great deal and fun to try everything!

Despite traveling to the LA area multiple times, we rarely visit Koreatown. We have made multiple attempts to go to this restaurant, but we always ran out of time until now. The wait was worth the reward. The atmosphere inside was warm and welcoming. Set Menu with Barley ~Pumpkin Porridge | Slightly sweet and creamy. ~Banchan | We couldn't keep track of the banchan. The abundance of fresh vegetables made everything taste nutritious. ~Additional Dishes | The chicken porridge reminded us of chicken noodle soup, but more filling. The acorn jelly salad and other fermented dishes were both vibrant and packed with flavors. ~Dessert | Corn porridge with beans was the best sweet porridge dessert ever! Would like to learn to make this at home :) Menu: Aside from the set menu, there were also protein options, such as LA Kalby and Spicy Marinated Crab. Service: The servers were nice and sweet. They were able to accommodate our requests. Parking: Plenty in the parking lot. Highly Recommend!

Overall the Food was good and ambiance was good, well deserving 5 star.I removed 1 star because we ordered spicy pork but it didn't come out we were done w/ most if our dinner.

If you are vegetarian you will love this place. I have been here twice and can say that each time I loved it! Their $35 per person set menu is perfect for when you want some healthy, rejuvenating traditional Korean food. For the amount of homemade items you get, it's a great deal. However you want meat, you will have to purchase additional dishes, which can be quite pricey to add on. For $35 you get a huge variety of banchan to mix with a bowl of rice and make your own bibimbap sesame oil and Gochuchang, two different types of soup, kimchi pancakes, fried seaweed, dessert, tea, and so much more. You will definitely have food to take home. The service is prompt and the electric restaurant decor feels a bit like sitting in someone's home. It's great for when you feel like you need a home cooked meal but want to leave feeling stuffed! It can be a bit of a wait on busy days, so try coming during the weekday/off hours.

Omg sooooo good! This is the best Korean food experience I've had in the states. Came with a few friends and we really enjoyed our dinner. We chose the protein we wanted, beef ribs, and everything else was decided for us. multiple courses, variety of banchan brought to the table, side dishes, dessert! Literally everything you need and more. The table was overfilled will food. Really great place to come with friends. I'm from DC but told my friend who's visiting Cali soon to come check Boris Gogae when she is there. Showed her my picture of the table and she is so excited! Really really fantastic meal. I definitely want to come back. Also the place is super cute! It's like a little tea house and the staff are so sweet!

We had the special 2 person min bibimbap with healthy rice. The selection of vegetables that came with the set were all pretty good. For the price $35 per person I would say you get a lot of food. It also came with 2 soups. Both were ok,(one a chicken porridge and another a soybean soup with tofu) and some kimchi pancakes. Acorn jelly dish and more sides. I think 3-4 people could have eaten this amount of food and been satisfied. Nice to try a Korean traditional meal, not Korean bbq. Although I've also tried the spicy pork ribs and the beef kalbi. I recommend if you go with 4 people order 2 meal sets and one meat dish. Overall the waitstaff were friendly and service was great. I like the metal bowls they serve everything in. A lot of dishes to wash! Worth trying once at least

Oh, Borit Gogae, why does this sound so familiar! I couldn't say no when our friend group decided on doing dinner here... thankfully we got here at 5pm, beating the dinner rush. Note that parking is valet and $4. Venmo, Zelle, or cash. However, note that it may not be super safe. The keys were in the car, and the windows were down. The food itself? Amazing. We had their set menu as well as LA beef ribs, grilled spareribs, and napa wraps with pork. The set menu was quite possibly one oft he healthiest meals I've eaten, and the variety of side dishes for a personal bibimbap with unlimited barley rice was quite possibly the loudest my older vegetarian in had been excited in many years. There were a variety of soups, porridge too, and snail (yes, not fully vegetarian) too which I enjoyed. The additional foods (all protein) were also all delicious, though the LA beef ribs were a tad too saucy and lightly burnt (they usually are). The pork was fun to eat with the cabbage, too. By the time our green plum tea came, we were STUFFED, barely able to get it down. Paying was super easy, and packing takeaways was a DIY experience. The staff were all friendly and informative of what to order as well as the communicative that everyone orders at least one dish, even if they're only staying for a small part of the meal.

If you are looking for a healthy meal, this is right spot for you. This restaurant is serving authentic Korean barley rice with bunches side dishes and soups. The menu is set and I'll include the menu in the picture. The host is very hospitable and welcoming and checking us all the time They have their own parking lot so it is very convenient and no sweat There are so many paintings and some plates and cups decorated at the wall and side The set menu also includes the dessert and a cup of tea I feel fully recharged with love and joy

Came here with my bf since we were craving raw marinated crab. This was such a great experience and I'm happy we found a Korean spot this authentic. We ordered crab & the galbi along with their set menus that come with banchan. I've never seen this many side dishes and our whole table was filled!!! Everything was fresh and well seasoned. I would recommend for people who want to try little bits of everything.

I honestly went in pretty blind. A foodie friend suggested this spot, and of course I said yes. I was pleasantly surprised to find a decently sized free parking lot in the back--at least on a Wednesday night, when it was open and easy. We met around 6 pm, so the restaurant itself was also fairly quiet. The interior is eclectic and colorful, with large vibrant paintings and playful placemats. I really enjoyed the pops of color--it felt fun and gave the space a lot of personality. The menu is simple, and we both immediately opted for the $35 prix fixe menu, which was an incredible value. It included a ton of dishes--around 22 small plates--plus a bowl of barley rice and dessert. While many of the plates were small, there was plenty of variety. With all of the banchan and small plates, you essentially get to build your own bowl. Everything was tasty. The smaller dishes leaned more pickly and toward soft pastes, which worked perfectly mixed into the rice. The larger items were more substantial, like the perilla chicken soup and personal-sized kimchi pancakes. We also really enjoyed the kimchi on its own. Just when we thought it was over, dessert arrived: a refreshing cold plum tea, a bite of persimmon, and a comforting corn-and-bean porridge. The tea struck a great balance of sour and sweet, with the persimmon adding texture and the porridge providing a unique, satisfying final note. Despite the sheer number of dishes, we didn't leave feeling overly full--satisfied, but not stuffed. Overall, this is a fun, interactive way to try a wide variety of small dishes while enjoying a flavorful, well-priced meal. I'd happily come back.

Borit Gogae serves one of the most authentic Korean cuisines you can imagine. They have an extensive menu but what they're known for is for their set menu with barley rice. On this menu you are served with 27 different banchans, fit for a king. Each item was fresh, healthy and just the right amount of flavor to accompany your barley rice. My personal favorite was the sea snail with house yuzu sauce. It was light, unique, and very tasty. There is no right way to eat banchan, you can take a bit of everything and mix it all together with your rice, or eat a little bit of everything with rice as you go. It's a choose your own adventure with delicious food and that's what makes Borit Gogae so fun. As for the space it was made for optimal relaxation in mind. Lights are dim, and the tvs have relaxing marine life and landscapes playing as you eat. The staff here also exhume the same energy and every dish that came out, was served with so much gentleness. Bowls placed without clangs, and soups scooped without a sound. You will come and leave here as if you left a spa. Highly recommend just for the ambiance and service alone. Overall, if you are looking to dive deeper into Korean cuisine outside of Kbbq, then Borit Gogae is the place to go. Banchan's are a quintessential part of Korean culture and also a dying one if you ever get a chance to visit Korea. Borit Gogae specializes in this and thankfully keeps that tradition alive. Because of this I would love to come back if Im ever in town.

This is a 4.5 rounded up to a 5. The quality, seasoning, and variety of their banchan is imo the closest thing you can get to home cooked food if your umma/halmunee can throw down in the kitchen. I thought the variety of food was really well balanced and complimented the meal. My only gripe is that even though we were basically done with our meal and it would've been nice to get a few more banchan. Sadly, no one ever offered or asked. We were just given the check.

Borit Gogae was a total accidental find during a long weekend in LA--and easily one of the best surprises I've had eating out here. We stumbled in while wandering K-Town, and from the outside it's unassuming and low-key. Inside? Super traditional decor, colorful, warm, and instantly comforting, with extremely friendly staff. This ended up being one of the most healing meals I've had--especially with good company. The barley rice and banchan are 100% top tier, and not just visually beautiful but genuinely delicious. Everything felt thoughtful and nourishing. Highly recommend the set menu and adding a protein dish. It's absolutely worth it and honestly a steal for the price. Set menu + soju = elite Saturday vibes. I already dream of coming back. This place shot straight to my top LA favorites list.

Ask the Community - Borit Gogae

    How is the parking?

They have free parking in the lot behind the restaurant where you enter or street parking. You do not enter the restaurant from the street.

    Do they take reservations?

No. It's first come first serve basis.

Does any of the food contain peanuts?

I don't think so. Maybe one of the side dishes do, but it's pretty peanut free. There are sesame seeds this. Chicken and shell fish too.

Are there vegetarian options on the banchan menu, please?

Yes. Most of the ban Chan is vegetarian. Two items are seafood. You should ask if they use shrimp in their kimchee but they all seemed vegetarian to me. You should not get the set since the soup is chicken

Other than the dessert with the walnut, do the other food items contain any form of tree nut? my husband has a tree nut allergy.

    No, no tree nuts.

If you order set banchan menu, can you get a free refill?

I'm afraid it's not refilled as it is part of the main manu called Jung-sik. Banchan is not a side dishes.

There is sometimes street parking but the availability is rough, it's tough to park, and even one of the meters we ended up at just didn't work. They only charge a $5 cash service charge though, which isn't bad. We were lucky to be seated right away, even in a packed restaurant. The restaurant has a surprisingly modern design, and is comfortable for as small as it is. We were quickly served their signature kimchis and barley rice. The kimchi, particularly the yeolmu (young summer radish) kimchi, has a unique flavor profile well suited to their food. We ordered 2 bowls of their plain kalgooksu, 1 bibim milmyun, and 1 tteokbokki. The food came out fairly quickly. The kalgooksu was as expected the star of the show. The anchovy broth brings a savory complexity that seems impossible for a soup made from just dried fish and a few other ingredients. It even has a rich, almost thick, quality to it that is surprising for a fish broth. Their noodles, the titular kalgooksu, have the signature irregularity and chew of knife cut noodles. I appreciate the vegetables that always come in kalgooksu, like potato, pumpkin, and zucchini, which offer an earthy heartiness to the light soup. My only complaint is that the potato is in huge irregular chunks, and is barely cooked, though I feel like I have had this issue with many of the kalgooksu bowls I've had over the years. The bibim milmyun was solid. I think that I prefer the texture and flavor of naengmyeon buckwheat noodles, but the milmyun, which are made with mostly wheat flour, still provide a satisfying chew. The sauce tasted bright and fresh, especially with a splash of added vinegar. It also came with a small side portion of spicy pork and some rice paper to wrap. The tteokbokki was the one let down of the meal. To be fair, I wasn't expecting much out of tteokbokki at all restaurant like this whose specialty is essentially the opposite. I ordered the tteokbokki as a "safe pick" for a picky eater in the group. It turned out to be a bit mediocre in our opinion, and that friend ended up enjoying their kalgooksu anyways. If you're looking to try this dish, it's definitely one of if not the best I've had in Southern California, so I'd totally recommend it. I'll also warn to steer clear of the Garden Grove restaurant of the same name and specialty. I think it's a disappointing mimicry of this place.

I had placed a phone order, for pick up; upon arrival, I found the service was prompt. I saw my food ready to go, just past the main walk-in area. Almost immediately after that, I was taken care of by the host and on my way. I've been waiting to try this place for ages so on the drive back to work I was excited to steal a piece of meat from the bag. Initial bite flavor was good, meat was tender just a bit on the chewy side.. I wasn't bothered by it too much as I'd have to leave it in an oven warmer at work. Trying to keep food warm, in doing so, I knew there'd be only two possible outcomes, melting tender or either tough & dry. So, the dish of meat and rice sat in the warmer for almost an hour hour and a half. The downhill slope.... Set the "meat " on the veggies and began to eat. Meat after meat, I kept experiencing the same exact texture. It was the same exact rubbery chew, I initially tasted. Each and every piece was the same exact flavor. There was no peak, there was no pitfall. If you cook or grill, you know this is a red flag. Normally, consistency would be a good thing, a Master craftsman type experience, but this was NOT it. As go on, I get the sinking feeling, this can't be real meat. I lock in, the deeper I dig, each piece looks the same, broken apart the same, tastes the same, just various shapes. They can call me crazy for this one - I'll stand by it. Something is not right here. I'm not even going to throw it away. I'm going to study it for the next few days and post an updated review. The chips had no warmth to them and were slathered with decently flavorful honey butter that pooled to the bottom. 4.2/5 Mushroom bimibap - A very balanced dish with cohesive elements. Good hostess. The steak took longer than expected to come out? Perhaps the kitchen messed it up and had to start over. Either that or maybe the waiters were busy. Or maybe it just takes a while to make it. Not sure. The waitress did the job competently but nothing above that. Overall, definitely not Michelin level service. 4.4/5 Ambiance A little too loud and it affected the entire vibe because I had to raise my voice to speak with the waitress. It became easier to just use nods and thumbs up. Like Cobis, a very modern and upscale restaurant that is hampered by lighting that is too dark. Pictures turned out good because I used another phone's flash. Just a little more light would be so much of an improvement without losing the romantic intent. Bathroom was average. 4.5/5 Overall, I had a solid meal that left my mood elevated. The service or food weren't as good as Cobis, Barsha, Ammatoli, or even Sonoratown - all top LA restaurants, but still worthy of a experience and I may return. 4.5/5 I would highly recommend Chois in San Diego as an extremely similar modern Korean fusion restaurant that also had better food, service, and ambiance. That place was 5/5 in every way.

Very small kimchi maybe one or two bites. Three orders that I'm surprised that they give such a small amount of banchan. How can establishment justify this high priced meal for such small portions? God and I drove all the way from South Bay, stuck in traffic for almost 1 1/2 hrs of this. Maybe this is the type of place you should dine in only?? Do not ever do take out here! The food in general was just ok. Nothing special and Kimchi soup was very salty. Threw all 3. Wow, what a waste of money. Very disappointing... I guess I won't be coming here ever again.

In fact, we regularly brought visitors here. They raved about how good the spare ribs were and even insisted that their last meal before LA should be at Ham Ji Park.  Here's my belated review of what I consider the best spare ribs in LA. From the moment the Korean-style spare ribs arrived at the table, it was clear this was a dish worth savoring. Each rib bore a beautifully charred exterior--deeply caramelized without a hint of bitterness--offering that irresistible smoky aroma the moment it was placed before us. The glaze was nothing short of spectacular. A perfect balance of sweet and spicy, it clung to the meat with a glossy sheen that promised flavor in every bite. There was just enough heat to make your taste buds sit up and pay attention, but it never overwhelmed the deeper, richer notes of the sweet components. But what truly set these ribs apart was the texture. Beneath the charred surface lay meat so tender it practically fell off the bone with the gentlest tug of a fork. Each bite was juicy and succulent, the result of careful cooking and a respect for quality ingredients. Ham Ji Park, you will be missed. Thank you for the memories. Thank you for the food.

If you're searching for some of the city's best pork, then those in the know will bring up Ham Ji Park. For 2 decades, generous platters of pork ribs and pork neck stew decked every table. Now, our Korean friends lament the loss of their favorite pork joint in the city. The Koreatown proper location is located in the Royal Plaza mini-mall, just a few blocks off bustling Wilshire. Discounted parking is available in a lot across the street from the Chevron gas station. From the street, the entrance is flanked by potted plants and an enclosed street-ery. Inside, stainless steel chairs are pressed up against wooden tables, each outfitted with a metal grill. Oppressive fluorescent lighting shines down on the stone grey walls, which are left undecorated apart from a few flatscreens. Multi-lingual chatter blends with the sizzle of platters. I visited with some friends for a weeknight dinner, and about half of the tables were occupied. We shared a spread of grilled platters and sizzling soups. The meal began with a carafe of barley tea and a mostly standard spread of banchan. Across our food, the best dish was the signature Charbroiled Pork Spare Rib. The ribs were flavorful without feeling gamey, and the meat was complemented by sweet caramelized onions. The pork ribs handily outdid the good-not-great Charbroiled Beef Short Rib. Lastly, the Milt and Cod Rose with Vegetables stew was fishy and briny, appropriately flavored for the Korean palate. The service was appropriately attentive, although I would've appreciated more intentional refills of our banchan ramikens. The rib plates cost upward of $35 each, while the soup was just under $30. The portions were hearty; a single entree platter could reasonably feed 2 moderately hungry bellies. It's a shame to hear that Ham Ji Park has closed; I'm kicking myself for not trying their pork neck stew earlier.

Visited this place recently for an evening out and came away really impressed overall!…read moreWe were told the wait would be about 45 minutes, but we were actually seated closer to 30 -- always a pleasant surprise. The concept was brand new to me: you cook your food on a stone surface heated by an open flame underneath. Honestly such a cool and unique experience. And no smoky smell either -- their ventilation system is seriously powerful and does the job well. One thing to be aware of: it's loud. Like, genuinely loud. There were moments I couldn't hear the person sitting right across from me. I wouldn't call it a dealbreaker personally, but if you're looking for a quiet, intimate dinner, this probably isn't your spot. If you're going with a lively group though? It totally fits the vibe. The food was fantastic. The steak especially -- wow. The appetizers were great too, and I have to mention the apple mashed potatoes: unusual combination, but surprisingly delicious. Don't sleep on those. Our server was wonderful. She was attentive and helped us navigate the menu, and even assisted with cleaning the stone surface during the meal -- which, by the way, stays on the table rather than being swapped out like those round metal griddles you see elsewhere. For a party of three, our bill came out to around $180 -- definitely on the pricier side, but given the experience and quality of food, I'd say it's worth it for a special night out. This place has real energy. Lots of people, great food, fun atmosphere. If you're planning a night out with a bigger group and want somewhere lively and memorable, I'd absolutely recommend checking it out!

New fav kbbq spot in ktown! Stands out for its quality meats, stone grill, and great service!…read more I loved the variety of sides and meat cuts here. We tried everything from beef tongue, beef belly, steak, marinated Galbi, to the kimchi pancake, corn cheese, and kimchi fried rice. Everything was high quality and there was a big selection of sauces. The servers were super attentive with refills and placed/cooked items on the grill for us. Not very common at ayce kbbq, but I loved the princess treatment. The inside is cozy and bustling with people and servers. There are wooden booths and tables with stone grills in the middle. The stone grills made the bbq meat taste delicious and cook evenly. At the end, when you're done grilling meats, the server will cook a little kimchi fried rice on the grill too. Highly recommend!
