Love the experience here. The spread was amazing. Although the staff was struggling with english. But he was super friendly and tried his best. Thank you. As happy and positive I was, still being honest and echoing other customers.. the food looks fantastic but the temperature of the food were cold. If you love hot food, the set menu might not be the best option for you. Everything that came out were cold. It understandable as many little plates take time to prepared Turmeric rice is over powered by the turmeric. Beet rice? Delightful. Love the soup. The taste nothing ordinary. Except the soup. Next time I come here.. I'll be ordering something else not the set menu. Good experience

J Korean Restaurant left me speechless. Seriously, we were served too many dishes to count. I'm not complaining! Our party of four recently visited for lunch and were treated to an absolute feast. While some dishes were definitely better than others, we felt like the variety and generous portions were what made this restaurant truly special and well worth the reasonable price tag. Service was impeccable and the ambiance was nice, as well. Definitely give this place a try if you're interested! It will not disappoint.

My wife loves Borit Gogae so when she found out this restaurant is under the same umbrella she wanted to come check it out. I would say Borit Gogae is vegetable focused and J Korean has more meat options. However, both are great. I think I still prefer Borit Gogae a bit more but this place is great as well. Service was amazing, restaurant was clean, free parking and the food was good. The banchan was great and we were super full before end the second round of food came around.

This is a place you want to take to impress your friends. They will literally roll out an entire table of food. You get a little bit of everything from traditional Korean to some new fun dishes. The server is really nice and all of the decoration is very reminiscent of a Korean traditional museum. I will say that the downside of there being so many dishes is that there wasn't really one that took out to be amazing but I think for the presentation just for fun it's worth a try!

A friend had told me about J Korean Restaurant and I finally gathered a group of friends to come and try it out for lunch. They were very accommodating when our reservation for 18 at noon turned into 12 people at 1PM. The restaurant was not too full to be honest, nor is it that big, but it is beautifully adorned inside. Service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal, with a lot of attention to detail. The food is a set $50/person, with options to upgrade to higher amounts to gain additional items, though the standard $50 already included a massive amount of food. We were stuffed with leftovers by the end of the three courses. I found the sliding wooden table ingenious and the variety of dishes was phenomenal. They served us smaller portions of banchan to accompany the second course of rice and soup, but offered to serve more (we were too full for the refills). They also proactively refilled seaweed with the first course, and explained the dishes that were so carefully laid out and presented. The dessert course was frozen persimmon, dried stuffed jujube, and rice punch, a very refreshing end to an extremely satisfying meal. The menu seems like it can vary slightly with the season, and I would highly recommend J Korean Restaurant for a truly unique dining experience! P.S. There is a small parking lot available and we found a spot but it can probably fill up at peak times.

Tbh idk even know what half the stuff was but it still got ate! I loved the variety in the $50 menu option. There was plenty of unique dishes ranging from light and plain flavors to exciting complex dishes. My girlfriend and I came in for Dinner of a Saturday around 7pm and were quickly sat and helped with the menu options. We were very heart eyes as we saw other table tops being rolled out. While the dining experience was certainly unique I did find only maybe half of the dishes to be truly amazing. My favorites included their beefy stew, cold noodle, kimchi plates, chives salad, and green meaty wrapped bites. I loved the range of all the flavors on the table, each being unique and memorable. Not sure if I'd return but certainly loved the exposure to new plates and had a great experience trying new Korean dishes!

Everything was delicious. Service was attentive. Great ambiance. We especially enjoyed the raw marinated crab.

Hanjeongsik is a formal and traditional Korean meal, and this restaurant delivers it beautifully. It is colorful, elaborate, and seemingly endless, filling every inch of the table and then some. When we dined here, it was a prix-fixe menu, charged per guest. The entire spread arrived on a large wooden board that slid over the table, just like how I experienced it in Korea. The variety was impressive, with countless side dishes and standout mains such as braised short ribs (Galbi Jjim), deep-fried white fish, and Hamburg steak. Even the water was unique--a refreshing herbal tea blend. After the main courses, they served dessert: frozen persimmon, traditional Korean snacks, and a sweet rice punch. It was the perfect way to close an already memorable meal, and we left full and satisfied. The space itself is warm and inviting, with beautiful artwork on the walls. For special occasions, you can even reserve a private room by calling ahead. One thing that stood out to me, however, was that the dining room wasn't very full. It made me think the restaurant could benefit from rebranding. The current name doesn't quite capture the elegance and authenticity of the experience. Possibly a new name that reflects the aura and quality of the food might draw more people in and better represent what this place truly has to offer.

Banchan-forward Korean restaurant. Pretty unique style of serving/eating Korean food. We got the $50 preset course - highly recommend! It's almost too much food.

Came here to try the $50/pp traditional Korean meal. Presentation is impressive and massive. They literally slide a tabletop filled with food on your table since it would take so long to move plates and dishes over. I thought that was pretty ingenious. They have two rounds of food, first set up is appetizers and meat, second set is with rice and soup to finish the meal. Service was prompt and efficient. I didn't think the price was too bad considering how much food you get. My only issue is that every dish was OK but nothing was amazing. I think it's great if you're new to Korean food and want to try a variety of items, but otherwise, I'm not sure it was enticing enough for us to go back. Nothing was too memorable, I guess. The restaurant is under same ownership as Boritgogae, which we really like, so our expectation might have been a little too high. Lastly, I thought the decor could be nicer, maybe add a little more character and make it cozier or traditional. Just something to make it a little different since right now there is no ambience at all. Recommend trying once for the experience. Definitely different from any other K restaurant in LA.

Came here with a group of 4 and we weren't asked if what we were going to order. Not sure if there's a set 'menu' that everyone gets, but our waitress also didn't get us any water until 20 minutes in :( She seemed really busy, but just didn't check in with our table. We just got seated immediately and it took around 25 minutes for the first set to come out. The sets look like an insane amount of food, but most of them are just small eats and bites. Some of the dishes are definitely on the adventurous side. I consider my palette to be very adventurous already, as I love things like chicken feet, raw marinated crab, duck tongue, etc. However, I think some of the dishes here were too adventurous even for me. We had some raw seafood that we had no clue what it was, and it just tasted like straight ocean and mush. Outside of the interesting side dishes, I think the main courses of pork, beef, and cooked fish were really good. This will probably be a one time experience for me, as most of the dishes were kind of bland or just a little too oceanic for me.

Wow such an incredible and unique dinner! Had a fantastic time and the food was so delicious. Everything was unique and the service was lovely. Unfortunately parking lot gets real full real quick so best bet would be street parking if possible. The meal was about $50/person

We came to J Korean Restaurant on a late Friday afternoon. Valet parking is available for $3, and thankfully, it wasn't too busy when we arrived. The dining experience is unique -- they bring out a full spread of Korean delicacies by placing a table-sized cover loaded with dishes right over your table. At the time, only the $50 per person set menu was available, which included appetizers, mains, sides, and dessert -- about 40 items total. Highlights included salted pollock roe, pickled radish wraps, and grilled black cod. Everything was flavorful, and the presentation was impressive. The ambiance was clean and modern, and the service was top notch -- very personal, including deboning the fish tableside and walking us through each dish. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience a generous and thoughtfully curated Korean meal.

Hi, yes, we do have a $29.99 special available Monday through Sunday.

Do I need to make a reservation for the Hanjeongsik meal?

Preferably yes. It's not a very big restaurant. I dined as a walk-in, but it was during their opening hours.

There is sometimes street parking but the availability is rough, it's tough to park, and even one of the meters we ended up at just didn't work. They only charge a $5 cash service charge though, which isn't bad. We were lucky to be seated right away, even in a packed restaurant. The restaurant has a surprisingly modern design, and is comfortable for as small as it is. We were quickly served their signature kimchis and barley rice. The kimchi, particularly the yeolmu (young summer radish) kimchi, has a unique flavor profile well suited to their food. We ordered 2 bowls of their plain kalgooksu, 1 bibim milmyun, and 1 tteokbokki. The food came out fairly quickly. The kalgooksu was as expected the star of the show. The anchovy broth brings a savory complexity that seems impossible for a soup made from just dried fish and a few other ingredients. It even has a rich, almost thick, quality to it that is surprising for a fish broth. Their noodles, the titular kalgooksu, have the signature irregularity and chew of knife cut noodles. I appreciate the vegetables that always come in kalgooksu, like potato, pumpkin, and zucchini, which offer an earthy heartiness to the light soup. My only complaint is that the potato is in huge irregular chunks, and is barely cooked, though I feel like I have had this issue with many of the kalgooksu bowls I've had over the years. The bibim milmyun was solid. I think that I prefer the texture and flavor of naengmyeon buckwheat noodles, but the milmyun, which are made with mostly wheat flour, still provide a satisfying chew. The sauce tasted bright and fresh, especially with a splash of added vinegar. It also came with a small side portion of spicy pork and some rice paper to wrap. The tteokbokki was the one let down of the meal. To be fair, I wasn't expecting much out of tteokbokki at all restaurant like this whose specialty is essentially the opposite. I ordered the tteokbokki as a "safe pick" for a picky eater in the group. It turned out to be a bit mediocre in our opinion, and that friend ended up enjoying their kalgooksu anyways. If you're looking to try this dish, it's definitely one of if not the best I've had in Southern California, so I'd totally recommend it. I'll also warn to steer clear of the Garden Grove restaurant of the same name and specialty. I think it's a disappointing mimicry of this place.

Bathroom was average. 4.5/5 Overall, I had a solid meal that left my mood elevated. The service or food weren't as good as Cobis, Barsha, Ammatoli, or even Sonoratown - all top LA restaurants, but still worthy of a experience and I may return. 4.5/5 I would highly recommend Chois in San Diego as an extremely similar modern Korean fusion restaurant that also had better food, service, and ambiance. That place was 5/5 in every way.

We also got an additional order of LA kalbi for some protein. The meat quality was good but I felt like the meat was not marinated long enough and so the flavor was a little bit lacking. If only it just sat in the marinade for a couple more hours, I think this would have been perfect. The tofu soup was not my favorite, to be very honest. There was some flavor in there that made it smell like a stinky towel. Very different from other soondubu soup places and unfortunately not for me. Everything else we had was excellent and I would definitely come back again just for the barley rice and banchan. Service was quick and servers were nice. We also came at 3pm on Saturday so there was no wait. Recommended!

It's a lot of food for the price ($35 pp at this writing). While the minimum order is for 2 people, we've tried sharing the 2-people order among 3 and it worked for us, with addition of a couple of other items from the menu. The Korean BBQ beef is at par with most other nice restaurants in K town; their marinated crab was delicious! Service is okay - given how busy they are! Most servers are not very conversant in English so a little patience would help you get the right things you need. Nice and unique vibe with Korean handicraft items and art work on display (and for sale, I believe).

In fact, we regularly brought visitors here. They raved about how good the spare ribs were and even insisted that their last meal before LA should be at Ham Ji Park.  Here's my belated review of what I consider the best spare ribs in LA. From the moment the Korean-style spare ribs arrived at the table, it was clear this was a dish worth savoring. Each rib bore a beautifully charred exterior--deeply caramelized without a hint of bitterness--offering that irresistible smoky aroma the moment it was placed before us. The glaze was nothing short of spectacular. A perfect balance of sweet and spicy, it clung to the meat with a glossy sheen that promised flavor in every bite. There was just enough heat to make your taste buds sit up and pay attention, but it never overwhelmed the deeper, richer notes of the sweet components. But what truly set these ribs apart was the texture. Beneath the charred surface lay meat so tender it practically fell off the bone with the gentlest tug of a fork. Each bite was juicy and succulent, the result of careful cooking and a respect for quality ingredients. Ham Ji Park, you will be missed. Thank you for the memories. Thank you for the food.

If you're searching for some of the city's best pork, then those in the know will bring up Ham Ji Park. For 2 decades, generous platters of pork ribs and pork neck stew decked every table. Now, our Korean friends lament the loss of their favorite pork joint in the city. The Koreatown proper location is located in the Royal Plaza mini-mall, just a few blocks off bustling Wilshire. Discounted parking is available in a lot across the street from the Chevron gas station. From the street, the entrance is flanked by potted plants and an enclosed street-ery. Inside, stainless steel chairs are pressed up against wooden tables, each outfitted with a metal grill. Oppressive fluorescent lighting shines down on the stone grey walls, which are left undecorated apart from a few flatscreens. Multi-lingual chatter blends with the sizzle of platters. I visited with some friends for a weeknight dinner, and about half of the tables were occupied. We shared a spread of grilled platters and sizzling soups. The meal began with a carafe of barley tea and a mostly standard spread of banchan. Across our food, the best dish was the signature Charbroiled Pork Spare Rib. The ribs were flavorful without feeling gamey, and the meat was complemented by sweet caramelized onions. The pork ribs handily outdid the good-not-great Charbroiled Beef Short Rib. Lastly, the Milt and Cod Rose with Vegetables stew was fishy and briny, appropriately flavored for the Korean palate. The service was appropriately attentive, although I would've appreciated more intentional refills of our banchan ramikens. The rib plates cost upward of $35 each, while the soup was just under $30. The portions were hearty; a single entree platter could reasonably feed 2 moderately hungry bellies. It's a shame to hear that Ham Ji Park has closed; I'm kicking myself for not trying their pork neck stew earlier.
