I went in for lunch and ordered the pork plate. It was not very busy, so the attendants basically pounced on me and took my order. All the seating is out doors in an alley. It has its charm. I was quickly served my meal. The pork was tasty. What was the star where the fries. Yes the fries, they were excellently cooked and testing. crisp and pillowy soft in the center. The portions are generous to boot.

The staff also wears gloves when handling food. There are some hand sanitizers available for customers to use. This place is available for take outs and has some indoor & outdoor seating available with some indoor limited capacity. They are not sanitizing in between customers.  COVID-19 Vaccination Proof: This establishment currently does not require proof of vaccination.  While I was here eating my food in this establishment a month ago, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They currently don't have happy hour. They also do not allow pets in their establishment UNLESS it's a service animal. But this isn't strictly enforced. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is incredibly small. They have valet parking. I urge you to park on the street. However, be wary of the signs. On one side, there is a no parking sign on Wednesdays from 12PM - 3PM. On the other side, it says no parking on Thursdays from 12PM - 3PM. Basically don't go there on Monday and Tuesday (they are closed) and Wednesday and Thursdays for horrible street parking. It is a shame that a cute mom and pop restaurant closed. I am sad that I did not know about it sooner. I would have came more frequently. They have been opened since 1948. Very impressive! Food: I ordered a baklava, spanakopita, and gyro sandwich. The house made baklava went perfect with my coffee the next day. A delicious start to a new day. The baklava combines layers of honey-soaked crisp phyllo pastry and a cinnamon-scented nut mixture with pistachios, walnuts, and hazelnut. To me, nothing rivals homemade baklava. The texture of crispy and flaky phyllo pastry. The crunchy filling. And the warm honey syrup. It is all I want in a dessert / breakfast. The spanakopita was very delicious and filling. This spanakopita had sauteed spinach, feta cheese and seasonings, all wrapped up in phyllo dough and baked until golden brown and crisp. It's the perfect blend of spinach, cheese, onions, and herbs in a buttery crust. It was very savory. The gyro sandwich was so mouthwatering. My gyro sandwich included succulent, marinated, and seasoned lamb and beef grilled to perfection. Then it was wrapped up with fresh tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and feta cheese in warm, soft, and slightly chewy pita, and slathered in delicious homemade creamy tzatziki sauce. I got a pistachio yogurt bar from their mini deli and market area. It was so nutty, creamy, and rich. Perfect for a hot summer's day. I love that they use real pistachio with yogurt to make it. None of the fake artificial stuff was used. Glad I didn't offer my close friend a bite of this otherwise he would have suffered a severe allergic reaction in the restaurant. That would have made the dining experience incredibly memorable, and not in a good way LOL I love that they have a complimentary water station for customers to grab as much water as they want. Staff: The staff here are very kind, friendly, and helpful. They accept both cash and credit cards. There is no credit card minimum.

After leaving DTLA to work in the suburbs, I haven't been back and sad to say, it took a looming permanent closure to bring me back. What I loved about the place is still tried and true: a free parking lot (just need to tip the valet) and delicious Greek good. I don't eat lamb so my go to back then was the fish sandwich. I got it again, over 10 years later, and it is still as good as remembered. Prices have doubled (what can you expect in our current economy T_T), but the portion is still generous and the food still fresh and yummy. I brought BF and we ordered a spread enough for a family of four: spanakopita, tiropita, sausage appetizer, gyro sandwich, beef kefta patties sandwich (they were out of the beef kebab), fish sandwich, chicken kebab plate, and loukoumades dessert. Everything was fresh, light and delicious (okay, the dessert was a little too sweet for me)! We also grabbed a $3.99 baguette from the connected market. If you're planning on coming for one last visit before they close that first weekend of May 2025, make sure to come early and queue in the front of the store. The line will move and there should still be plenty of seating available after you order. If you come within the last 30 minutes before closing, you'll have to order to go. The employees here are still as courteous and friendly as ever. We were also jazzed to be graced with the presence of Chrys Chrys himself on our visit. We will miss you, Papa Cristo's!

It was a packed house on a Friday night and you can feel just how festive the place is as people know they are in for a special Greek meal! Tonight I had an Arnold Palmer, the Lemon Chicken soup and Lamb Chops with French Fries. Everything was excellent as always. I sat at the bar and our server was excellent as he double-tasked making drinks and all to happy to serve our dinner. This is the secret weapon of Taverna, the help is friendly and eager to please! I didn't realize it has been a year since my last visit, but the food and friendliness is missed, and I'll be back again for the best in Greek on the Westside! The diversity of patrons be it dinner for two, four, six or more, a girl's night out, two guys having dinner or even a more larger party, Taverna delivers on food, location, atmosphere and service. Reservations are suggested on the weekends and the number is (310) 751-6773. E-mail is info@themarvista.com or www.themarvista.com HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The menu is fun, diversified and Greek!

Long overdue!!! I've…read morebeen coming to Mar Vista Tavern for years, ever since they first reopened as The Taverna at Mar Vista, it was just for happy hour. I still remember trying Atherina (fried smelts) for the first time. I couldn't believe how much I liked them and ever since then, this spot has been a staple for me and my partner. Yes, this is a long overdue review;) My absolute favorite dish is the Kotopoulo (grilled chicken with Greek potatoes in lemon and herb sauce) - 5/5 The chicken is always juicy, tender, and packed with flavor, and those potatoes are the perfect pairing, zesty, herby, and comforting. It's the dish I always look forward to. Other favorites worth mentioning: Paidakia (char-grilled lamb chops) - 5/5 Phenomenal and full of flavor. Hitapodi (char-grilled octopus with AC vinaigrette, oregano & fava purée) -4/5 Perfectly prepared and very tasty. Taverna (bean purée with yellow split pea, olive oil, spices & tahini) - 4/5 A smooth, flavorful starter. Pita wrap - 3/5 Decent, but not as memorable as the other dishes. Their salads are also excellent. I rotate between the Sparta, Horiatiki, and Mikonos (my personal favorite for the arugula). For drinks, the hibiscus margarita is always my go-to. If you're into mules, the Mikonos Mule is unique, but fair warning, it has a strong black licorice taste that not everyone will enjoy. Two years ago we celebrated my girlfriend's mother's birthday here, and once again, the food and service were excellent. Jessica, who often takes care of us, is one of the best, always upbeat, kind, and full of positive energy. She makes every visit feel special. The vibe is casual and lively, with open seating, TVs showing sports, and a full bar. On weekends, they offer brunch and a Sunday barbecue on the patio, which my partner swears is great (still on my list to try). Mar Vista Tavern is truly a neighborhood gem. You'll see families, friends, and locals gathering here, and the vibe is always welcoming. Great food, top-notch service, and a place that keeps us coming back.

Today I brought a group of coworkers and everyone enjoyed it. I had the Chicken Souvlaki Gyro with a small side of hummus. Tasty, fresh, and plenty of food. Prices are a little up there, but honestly, everything seems expensive these days. The atmosphere is pretty no-frills and a little diner-ish. Parking is shared with the budget hotel next door, so you're definitely coming here for the food rather than the setting. Friendly staff, consistently good food, and a place I'm always happy to come back to. I'm an Aliki's fan! 4 stars

A…read morehusband-and-wife team has taken Middle Eastern fusion next-level on all fronts, centered in the ARTS DISTRICT - if you sit in the bar, you can eat under a waterfall of pathos & take suggestions from SAM & MULLIN. Food is best enjoyed family-style, but not if you don't want to share, as in my case. It's magical in the way only LA can be, beautiful because Genevieve is hands-on with artful touches (in atmosphere and PASTRIES), and 100% delicious for all senses. To begin, CHERRY TOMATO a BOMB @ss party in my mouth!!! One dish that's actually more delicious than it is beautiful (and it IS both) - silken feta, like yogurt without fermentation, underlies genuinely sweet cherry tomatoes and strawberries that are a bright, fruity POP next to roasted harissa & cilantro - cuts through like FIRECRACKERS with sesame crunch. It's MAGIC. Second, some FRIED QUAIL - THE MOST ELEGANT fried thing I've ever eaten, and I mean that in the BEST way. SO tender, moist quail in the crispiest, tastiest buttermilk semolina coating with XO (a little bit spicy, a lotta bit savory - not ashamed to say I licked the plate) and a sprinkling of ROSE petals. GET IT, SHARE IT, no more than 2 per plate (and you may want an encore...). THIRD, an otherworldly DUCK HUMMUS - SMOOTH like butter, SAVORY like 'NDUJA and slightly curried with fluffy HOT PITA fresh from the oven. I dare you to find better, please tell me if you do. A proverbial cherry-on-top (except this one is a...) PEACH TART! Perfect peaches fanned over a buttery crust that melts in the mouth - it's a marrying of barely-there crust and creamy center (underlying whip is barely sweet, like happy clouds). My greatest disappointment is not having friends to share my delight & order more - I have no doubts everything on the menu is equally exceptional, and CANNOT WAIT for the day we return together!

We went to Bavel for a special dinner and, overall, had a good experience, although it was…read moredefinitely on the pricey side. I made an OpenTable reservation about 10-15 minutes before arriving, and I'm glad I did because there was already a short line when we got there. There's valet parking for $13 for smaller cars/SUVs and $20 for larger trucks, plus tip, so definitely factor that into the meal cost. Street parking looked pretty difficult, so we were happy to just hand over the keys and not worry about it. Even with a reservation, we waited about 10 minutes. The restaurant is beautiful, and as you walk toward the dining room, you can see the fire blazing in the background. Unfortunately, our table was close enough to the fire that one side of us was basically being slow-roasted. We asked to move, and the staff was incredibly nice and switched us to another table immediately. Food-wise, this was definitely a mixed bag. The 26 oz prime ribeye ($185) was the biggest disappointment. I know it's an expensive special-occasion dish, and I saw a Yelp review calling it 10/10, so we thought, why not? Sadly, it was probably the worst ribeye I've ever had. There was a lot of silver skin/tough connective tissue throughout the meat, and for $185, I just don't think it was worth it. 1/5 for me. The grilled prawns were my favorite dish of the night and were excellent. My husband loved the lamb neck shawarma ($61). It was a little too rich for me, but I can see why he liked it, and at $61, it actually felt like one of the better values of the meal. We also enjoyed the duck hummus. The hummus with two pieces of pita was $19, but that definitely wasn't enough for three people, so we ordered two more pieces for another $10. That brought us to $29 for hummus and four pieces of pita. Delicious? Yes. A bargain? Absolutely not. Even in California, that's a lot of pita math. We also tried the Samira cocktail ($18), which they said was their most popular drink. It was good, but not particularly memorable for that price. There's also a 4% "Healthy LA" charge, so that's something to keep in mind when looking at the menu prices. For three people, our total was about $375 before tip, or a little over $120 per person. That's actually more than we spent at Nobu, so yes, I think Bavel is overpriced. But was the food good overall? Also yes. I'm glad we tried it, and I'd probably come back for the grilled prawns and maybe the shawarma. But the $185 ribeye? That one can stay at Bavel.

This cozy neighborhood spot (formerly Freedman's) has that perfect casual-yet-vibrant vibe--think breezy Greek taverna meets LA cool--with excellent charcoal-grilled dishes and a great all-Greek wine list. The service was genuinely amazing. Our server Petra took incredible care of us from start to finish--attentive, knowledgeable, and warm without being over-the-top. And shoutout to the incredible bartender Penny. The whole team made us feel right at home. We went family-style and ordered a fantastic spread: * The lamb was a highlight--tender, perfectly grilled, and packed with flavor * Saganaki was cheesy, crispy, and fun. * Branzino came beautifully grilled with bright lemon orzo--fresh, flaky, and spot-on. * Mushrooms were earthy and well-seasoned. * Crispy fries were addictive. * We ended on a sweet note with honey balls (those little fried dough bites drizzled in honey--crispy, sticky, and addictive) and the baklava pie. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and meant for sharing. Portions lean toward the smaller side (typical for meze-style Greek plates), so ordering a variety works perfectly for a group. Greekman's hits that sweet spot of quality ingredients, simple execution done right, and welcoming hospitality. Whether you're in the vine-covered patio, intimate dining room, or at the speakeasy-style bar, it's a winner. We'll definitely be back--highly recommend!
