I'll be honest, I was not expecting many vegan options but I was pleasantly impressed by how much was available. I ordered the seasonal vegetable patty and the vegan channa roti. Walking in you are greeted with golden brown baked patties, immediately putting the goodness on display. I've had Caribbean patties before, most of them fried because I grew up in the south, but a friend's mom from childhood would fresh bake them for us and I had missed that for so long. These patties reminded me of that and I had a Ratatouille flashback moment with it. I don't exactly remember what was in the patty, but it was the fall medley, and it was warm, cozy, and so pleasant. The lady at the front of house asked me what I thought and I could tell she really cared about the fact that I enjoyed it. About 10 minutes later the roti came out (and I think waiting for it made the experience even better), and my goodness every single bite was just fantastic. I spent around $30 in total (including tip) and I think that was a complete steal for the experience I had. I'm definitely coming back so I can try the jerk cucumbers and the channa doubles. Instead of immediately leaving a negative review, we called the restaurant because we wanted to give them the chance to make it right. The manager asked us to text photos, which we did. Rather than acknowledging the issue or apologizing, he spent the conversation defending the food and arguing about whether what we were seeing was grease or water. The food was disappointing. The response was worse. When a loyal customer tells you something isn't right, the goal shouldn't be to prove them wrong. It should be to listen, apologize, and make it right. That's how you keep customers coming back. We've always enjoyed Carla's, which makes this even more frustrating. Unfortunately, this experience has cost them two longtime customers.
