Right when we walked in, the owner was so friendly. The smell of the food reminded me of home. Very accommodating to the order. The food itself was absolutely delicious. We got the chicken kabob plates and the gyro sandwich. So much flavor. Thank you so much for the hospitality and great service!

Found this place by accident, wandering around the fashion district with a friend a few weeks ago. We'd already filled up on street food ("LA dogs" with bacon and pico de gallo, grilled corn, you know the stuff!) so although I was very excited to find a little Persian lunch place, I just got a Persian ice cream sandwich to go -- creamy saffron with pistachios, between two thin wafers, mmmm. So yesterday I brought my husband here for lunch. Didn't remember exactly where it was so we ended up battling our way through Santee Alley etc to get here, but it was worth it. Their Persian sandwiches include ingredients many Persian restaurants don't make -- stuff like kotlet (a potato-meat croquette) and kookoo (like a frittata of leafy greens) are often home foods, and only Persian delis will carry salad olivieh (Persian potato salad). I had a kotlet sandwich and he had salad olivieh, and they were both huge, very filling, and really fantastic. (My mom makes great kotlet too; theirs has more turmeric in it, also very delicious.) Service was great, very friendly and prompt. They also make fresh juices, smoothies, and "licuados" that we'll try another time. I'm also planning to come back for their Persian breakfasts of barbari bread with Persian cheese, walnuts, and herbs or cream and honey. Then there's also a selection of Mexican dishes -- I'll upload a photo of the menu. They also have a selection of coffee drinks and a couple of armchairs in front of the window to lounge in and enjoy them, as well as little tables to eat your sandwiches at. Most sandwiches, with a side of green salad and chips, are around $6. The Persian ice cream sandwiches are around $3 (and they also have pints to take home). They're cash only, but have an ATM inside if you forgot to bring enough. There are a couple of sit-down Persian restaurants around the fashion district but if you're not in the mood for a big meal and hot rice or kabab, come here and enjoy the food and the service as you rest your feet for another wave of shopping.

Since it was my first time here I asked the person working at the front ( you have to order up front where they then give you a number) some questions regarding the menu. They were supper attentive and friendly. After I ordered I sat outside to people watch which was honestly really nice. Reminded me of Paris. My food came promptly thus after. The Tumeric braised chicken is amaaazzzinggg the chicken is so juicy and falls off the bone. The rice has some sort of crunchiness to it that compliments the entire flavor profile of the dish. The eggplant dip reminded me of the one my grandmother makes, dipped with the chicken made my meal feel really nostalgic. I've been back four times since and never regret it. One of those meals that just makes you feel really good after!

Recently, we were curious if our old go-to, Javan, was still any good. So, my wife and I dined there. The beef and chicken koobideh entrees were both excellent- so tender and juicy. This weekend, we have some friends visiting from San Francisco. As SF is a fantastic food town in its own right, we suggested two different food options that are better in L.A. than what you'll find up there: Korean BBQ or Persian food. The wife pushed a return to Javan. Alex, the manager, recommended the All Javan Combo for our party of 5. It includes tzatziki, hummus, salad, and flatbread to start followed by beef and chicken koobideh, chicken kabob, filet, lamb, and choice of rice. We added an eggplant stew with lamb shank and an extra skewer of chicken koobideh. Finished the meal off with hot tea, a sublimely-delicious saffron ice cream (house-made by Alex himself), baklava, and little bites that were like honey churro nubs. After we finished this feast of a meal, my daughter looked up at me and said, "This was one of the best Persian meals I've ever had." I must agree. This was a meal greater than the sum of its parts- food was very, very good and the experience was elevated by the warmth of Alex and his staff. It's rare that a restaurant works this hard to make its guests feel welcome. Free street parking and a full-bar (Alex is happy to whip-up a special cocktail for you). I give Javan my highest recommendation. Please eat here if you're in the mood for Persian food. Bon Appétit!

Although we don't dine here often, we still try to go once a year for special occasions as we have done so previously. I am not sure if you have changed something in how to prepare the beef koobideh or chicken koobideh, but I prefer how it was made before. Actually, both the rice and koobideh's that we had this time were very salty. There is no need to put lots of salt if your food is already delicious. Seemed like this time, the salt was a little too much. we love Sadaf and its great ambience, and because I care about your restaurant's reputation, I am letting you know. I am sure if you put a little less salt, no one will complain that it doesn't have enough salt. As I said in my very first review many years ago, keep the quality high, and your customers will keep coming back. Sincerely, Alenoosh.

All the meat whether chicken, salmon or beef comes out perfectly juicy and flavorful. Just wish things weren't so expensive. Unfortunately, I will not be coming back. My family and I went here one afternoon and as we sat down, the attendant from the restaurant told us that the specific table we were sitting on wasn't part of the restaurant and we were not going to be served if we sat there in a very rude tone. We went ahead and moved. Then we went up to the cashier to order our food and the two people that were there were busy talking to each other in farsi about a customer that just came and didn't tip along with some very vulgar language. Then as we were ordering, we told them it was our first time and we got no smile or anything, very still faces like whatever. We ordered two Koobideh wraps and a few other things. It was very uncomfortable. The Cashier didn't even speak to us. As we sat down we were "served" after we HAD to ask if we get bread and onions and water because we saw that they were taking those things to other tables. The Koobideh wrap tasted like Rubber and you could barely hold it together as it was drenched with the sauce and all soggy. Even my 1 year old wouldn't eat it. We had to open up the sandwiches and eat them with a fork. It was not a good experience. Tip for the owner: You should probably remind your employees that some of your customers are Persian and they will understand them talking shit.
