We celebrated an early Valentine's dinner at Kateen in Hollywood and had such a beautiful experience from start to finish. We kicked things off with the queso fundido, and wow, it was absolutely delicious! Rich, melty, and packed with flavor, it was the perfect way to start the evening. For my entrée, I ordered the cochinita pibil, which was incredibly tender and saucy in the best way. My husband ordered the short rib, and it was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. On the side, we shared the papas bravas and esquite, both of which complemented our dishes perfectly. The drinks truly elevated the night. My husband and I both love mezcal, and Kateen delivered. I ordered the Valentine's Day "Zona Romántica," which featured mezcal and wine almost like a sangria, but completely unique and beautifully balanced. My husband had the "Gypsy Fever," also mezcal-based, and it was smoky, smooth, and refreshing. Between the food, cocktails, and ambiance, it made for such a romantic and memorable evening. Second time coming to this restaurant. The first visit was just okay, the service wasn't great and the overall vibe felt a bit low. This time, we decided to give it another shot since it has so many good reviews, and I'm glad we did. The ambiance was much better, with nice Tulum-style vibes and music that really set the mood. From the moment we walked in, service was great. We were greeted and seated right away thanks to our reservation. Our waitress, Brenda, was friendly, attentive, and super helpful in explaining the menu and recommending drinks. She checked in often and made sure everything came out quickly. The food was good overall, though the menu is a bit limited if you don't eat meat or seafood. I was especially looking forward to the fish tacos, but it seems like they've been removed from the menu. One thing I really appreciated was the mocktail options. Perfect if you're not drinking but still want something fun. The Wes Colada is a great pick if you like piña colada type drinks, though it is on the sweeter side. The michelada was also really well done, with a nice balance of savory and sour. DINERS BEWARE! I'll start with the positive. The food is delicious! The decor is beautiful, with inside/outside dining. The service was great. The reason for 1 star is a potentially serious health issue. SAGE BURNING If you are asthmatic, have COPD, or have any type of respiratory illness where smoke is a determent to your health, this is not good for you. Or if you have smoke or sage allergies. I couldn't even stay in the front because I was having a difficult time breathing. Even the day after, the smell is still in my nose and my throat is sore. It was our first time there and unfortunately with them burning this smoke so throughout, we can't go back. I wasn't able to really enjoy my dinner and ended up taking most of it home. (Literally had only 3 bites) So, again if you have any kind of ailment or allergies against smoke, please be careful eating here. Your health is important. read more

Ka'teen is a nice little spot to stop by for a drink. It's intimate and have plenty of seating for private and intimate get together and have seats all around the bar. We made a pit stop here before going to another spot, but this bar is definitely one of my favorites. Tucked in between a couple of clubs, it's a perfect for a little reset. They also had a show which was a surprise and super cool (I went on a Saturday night). Went here for the first time last Friday with a group of six to celebrate my friend! The place itself is gorgeous, especially if you get a nice corner table against the plants. Very good vibes and a great place to come eat or just get drinks (if they allow that). I will say they were super extra about the reservation and texted us to confirm it soooo many times (three times the day of the reservation), which got a little weird and annoying. Regardless, the drinks were delicious - I got some spicy margarita adjacent drink and it was delicious. I will be dreaming of this meal for a long time. Hubs and I went to a show down the street and aren't usually in the area, so this was a treat. We ordered two apps, the ceviche and the seasonal blue prawns. Both were really light, ceviche was our highlight. It was my first time trying prawns, while the restaurant did a very great job seasoning and presentation, the texture of them are not for me. Still a very delicious meal, I could have drank whatever sauce they served it with. He ordered for his main the short rib and for myself I decided to do the barracoa mushrooms. They serve it to you as a build your own taco plate. It was a lot of food, I ate leftovers twice from my meal. I ordered the Spanish red to drink and for myself hubs, he drank the pina colada. Ambiance is a 10. They really captured the Tulum Caribbean tropical vibe. It's really gorgeous inside and outside. Service is a 10, the waitress was so nice and helpful. They gave us champagne and dessert for our anniversary- that was so sweet! Food was good, The shrimp aguachile was amazing, yucca fries and the dips were really good. So we all ended up at Ka'teen for Patrick's birthday and we were treated as VIP. The food was delicious & plated nicely & colorfully. Ambiance was warm trendy & beautiful. I will be leaving my job as a nurse practitioner starting this month. I'm very sad but with my new title position I won't be able to carry on with my duties. I will come back to it in a year. We had two wonderful experiences here. We first came for dinner and then for brunch. Both experiences were great. The restaurant is very trendy and has a great vibe. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Indoor seating was limited, but don't worry, there are plenty of strong heaters outside. We never felt cold. The restaurant is set among lots of trees and shrubbery. You get the feeling like you are dining in the jungle. The entrance to the restaurant is on the side of the Volume Hotel. Look for a tunnel type entrance. Once past the tunnel you are greeted by a host/hostess desk. There are plenty of large tables so it's good for couple dining or group dining. The cuisine is Yucatán. The restaurant offers some really fun drinks. I got the colada, it's not frozen. It had great tropical flavors. My husband got an aromatic drink with some herbs that were lit on fire to season the drink. For our dinner we got the chips and guacamole and the Kanpachi Crudo. Don't feel shy asking for more chips, the guac was great! The chips were well salted too. The crudo was a nice light and fresh dish. I liked the flavors. For main dishes we got the lamb shank and the short rib. Oh wow! Both dishes were great. The lamb was like a stew. The meat was just falling off the bone. I'm not usually a fan of shank, but this dish was amazing!!! I loved the handmade tortillas that came with it, but wish there was more of them. You may want to just ask for a huge spoon to drink up all the curry. The short rib was also amazing. It was presented similar to a flatbread and came with a couple of different salsas. Believe it or not, we came back the next day for brunch. This was a larger group. Everything, again, was delicious. We got a variety of dishes. I remember a few avocado toasts, yucca fritas, flan brûlée pancakes, breakfast burritos, and short rib engrosses. Everything was a hit. I tried the flan pancakes, avocado toasts, and yucca frita. It was all delicious and there wasn't much left on our friends' plates so we knew it was good. This is definitely a place to check out during the day or night. read more

I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food here. The Southeast Asian-inspired decor is beautiful (I least that was my impression), and the $18 taco plates, especially the pork and shrimp, were delicious and well worth the price. The "chill house" soundtrack and high-quality sound system created a great vibe for the evening. Unfortunately, the experience was soured by the valet. Despite the sign clearly stating $17 for the first three hours, the attendant tried to charge me $25. When I questioned him, he gave conflicting excuses about hotel vs. restaurant rates and couldn't point to any signage to back it up. He eventually "offered" me a $20 rate as if he were doing me a favor, which felt like a blatant attempt to pocket a forced tip. To make matters worse, the blonde maître d' was standing right there and watched the entire exchange without stepping in. I don't mind tipping for good service, but being duped leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It's a shame, because the restaurant itself is great, but I'm hesitant to return after that experience. Tropical vibe that was fitting with the terrible humidity that LA has had recently. Sister and I sat at the bar and ordered margaritas, potato taquitos and queso fundido with green chiles. Parking was super easy. There is a lot across the street for $25 or valet in front for the same price. The entrance is south of the hotel and if you miss it, the hotel has signs. The entrance is a tunnel then you are greeted into a lovely indoor/outdoor restaurant. Dim lighting with multiple areas. Outside has fire pits or next to a fireplace nested in a wall the separates indoor from outdoor. The music is perfect to allow conversations, and the lighted is very romantic. Don't be alarmed if you smell smoke. Its one of their best drinks which is served by torch lighter. Keisha was our server and she was very attentive. She was extremely knowledgeable on the menu, explaining everything in great detail. My date and I joked that she could read minds. We ordered the camaron a la diablo. The only knock, it came with 5 shrimps so a pair my have to draw straws for the last one. We also ordered the ribeye. My daye liked it medium well and I am medium rare. We ordered two drinks which were incredible, Luna Verde for the lady- sweet and delightfully refreshing and I ordered the Forbidden Cenote, a true treat. Such a cute spot for a night out! We went to Kateen before a concert and appreciated the outdoor dining atmosphere with low lanterns and fireplaces. There is also a blanket at every chair in case you get cold. There is a good mix of vegan and various seafood and meat. The quesadilla was a fresh take with an egg and lots of flavor. I came here for my birthday yesterday and have mixed feelings. The food was honestly so good, everything tasted authentic, and the aesthetic of the place was beautiful. Drinks and food were 10/10. What ruined the experience was the service. Our server Josh was fine at first, but once another party sat next to us, my partner and I noticed he became way more attentive and conversational with them than he was with us. We were polite and had no issues, so the difference in treatment felt weird and uncomfortable. It was especially disappointing to feel dismissed as Hispanic customers in a restaurant that serves Hispanic food. What made it even more frustrating was that he couldn't even pronounce most of the menu items correctly, yet still treated us like we were the problem. He asked the table next to us what they were celebrating, and when they said a birthday from the day before, he brought them a free shot with a sparkler. Meanwhile, it was actually my birthday, and he never once asked us. I'd maybe come back for the food, but I'd definitely ask for a different server who actually treats everyone equally. read more
