Such a great Roof top bar ! Really we were here for the vibes. I have the Shrimp Pasta - it was 6.5/10. I kept adding salt. Could benefit from more flavor. A little more on the overpriced but we wanted to experience the roof top experience which did not disappoint. We had cocktails, those were good.

We came here for my sister's sweet 16, and the location was beautiful! The rooftop seating made our evening unforgettable, and the service was on point! The servers were kind to accommodate an additional party at the last minute. They also rearranged some of the heating fixtures to keep us warm. Much appreciated! The food was pretty good. Between a burger plate, meat tacos, shrimp tacos, and ceviche, we definitely were full! I'd like to add that the ambiance is very social and lively, making it the perfect venue for a group gathering or a catch-up with a girlfriend. There is no free parking, so plan for that. We had a great time and I definitely foresee myself returning. Thanks for the birthday accommodations as well! You definitely made her big day special!

    * Price: Appetizers between $19 to $29, tacos $20, protein main dishes (fish or steaks) $30 to $60. $$$. Average for DTLA. 3+ stars. * Ambiance: awesome view of downtown LA. Chic but cozy rooftop bar/restaurant. 5 stars! * Location: 11th street and Broadway. Not far from skid road. You should know where you are at all time. The area of the hotel is relatively clean and safe. There is free parking garage next to hotel. Valet is also available. 3+ star. * Meals: Californian cuisine, fresh products. Good variety for everyone, vegan to meat eater! Very good portions for sharing. 4 stars. * Service: friendly and pleasant. It was a cold day in LA. The staff turned on heating lamps. They also brought out blanket to our friends. 5 stars. We brought our out-of-town friends to Cara Cara for lunch. The view really impressed them. The patio with panoramic view of DTLA, cozy with fire pits and many plants and trees. For meals, we had avocado bruchetta ($19), grilled octopus ($32), brussel sprouts salad with grilled shrimp ($19 + $14 grilled shrimp), Cobb salad with grilled shrimps ($22+ $14 grilled shrimps), fish taco ($22), Scottish salmon ($22) and grilled branzino ($58). The presentation is colorful and farm-to- table style. The menu is small but a good presentation of Californian cuisine. We are full but not stuffy! We also had nonalcoholic drinks, passion fire and zesty verde ($14 each), very yummy and has nice kick from jalapeno salt! I would definitely recommend to bring date or visiting guests here for sunset view!

Wow the view here is absolutely beautifullll the waiter was also super nice everyone was kind and pretty welcoming I loved it here and for such good food and an amazing view, this place was honestly pretty affordable. $250 for 2 orders of barbacoa tacos (10/10), a truffle Mac (so good for truffle lovers like me), a skirt steak, salmon and fish tacos (we wanted to try a lot of things lol) is a great price I think! Will def be back

One of my friends celebrated her birthday at Cara Cara. She made reservations for midday on a Sunday, but when we arrived, the place was empty. We would have been okay without reservations for that day and time. By the time we were leaving, then the place started filling up. We were seated next to the pool area, which was nice. Everything was beautiful with great views of Downtown L.A.'s skyline. They have outdoor heaters in case it's chilly out and you still want to sit outside. Service here is fantastic, and our waitress was there to help us with anything we needed. Their menu is small, but it has a variety of options to choose from. I ordered their halibut fish tacos, which were battered with tempura, topped with red cabbage, pineapple adobo, and avocado salsa verde. I thought the tacos were good, but I don't think that the price matched the quality of the food. To go along with my meal, I ordered a Passionfruit Freedom cocktail that is made with mezcal. It was a little strong but delicious. We had a great time celebrating my friend's birthday. She received a complimentary dessert for her birthday, which was a nice touch. It's definitely a good place to celebrate special occasions.

This restaurant is located on the rooptop of a LA downtown hotel. It offers a contemporary Mexican cuisine with a full liquored bar, great services and of course, a spectacular view. We sampled some mocktails and hot tea since it was cold during lunch when we visitted. The food looked great and healthy. The whole fish entree was excellent. I enjoyed my Cobb Salad with Shrimp. I would highly recommend it for lunch if you ever visit LA, where most nice restaurants don't open for lunch.

I truly enjoyed my experience at Cara Cara! It was nothing short but amazing. Service/staff were so nice. Food has a great selection we got three of their popular dishes! Ambiance was amazing with the rooftop views and pool at the top. So many photo spots throughout the restaurant and hotel itself. Such a unique aesthetic. I would definitely come back here! Only downside is parking so if you have a reservation, come a little early to ensure you get a good parking or do valet which we still had to wait some time because it was busy! They were really nice but does take some time so plan ahead! :) follow me for other spots I try! @monicaerikaa

Time and again, Cara Cara remains one of my favorite spots to show off when we have guests from abroad or out of town. Not just for the delicious food, but also the impressive view onto the DTLA skyline. The staff and the kitchen were very helpful to identify or modify food items to accommodate one guest's garlic allergy. And despite this modification, everything was very flavorful. PS: The valet parking guy was either drunk or otherwise loaded but seemed to be very confused. PREVIOUS REVIEW 2: Back for another occasion to demonstrate to our foreign guests the beauty of the DTLA foodie scene and L.A. skyline. And again, it was a magnificent experience. Even cocktails this time were delicious - in form of the fruit-based cocktail. All menu items were stellar: White Trumpet Mushroom focaccia, Cara Cara cobb salad, Shrimp Tacos, Piri Piri Chicken, Hangover Burger all wonderful - but the Grilled Branzino in my opinion topped everything. PREVIOUS REVIEW 1: Unquestionably, this wonderful rooftop patio on the top of the Proper hotel is not only a cool place with the best and most direct view of the DTLA skyline but it offers a splendid ambiance for a relaxed social gathering with delicious food by Suzanne Goin (who we had known for her fabulous skills from Lucques and A.O.C). We ordered most items in a shared fashion with a few individual exceptions. The Douro almonds and the marinated olives were excellent starter snacks. The cocktails however did not hit it to say it nicely. We otherwise started with Piri Piri Fried chicken, Vegan antipasto, Hokkaido Scallop Crudo, and cauliflower tacos. The grilled albacore, hangover burger, dried figs and prosciutto focaccia, and the trumpet mushroom focaccia were a touch more substantial and filling. All food items were generally delicious but on occasion could've benefited from a tiny touch more salt and flavor. We skipped desserts except for BD surprise as we did have a major one waiting at home. Parenthetically, I was told that the the second Goin restaurant at the bottom of the Proper (Caldo Verde) doesn't have the same great view but serves the better food: to be tested in the near future). The part that I didn't like (apart from the cocktails) and which contributed to dropping a star was the uncharming service which was inattentive, hectic like a bee stock, generally little welcoming, and for substantial periods did not seem to care.

*Located at the rooftop of The Proper Hotel in LA* Made reservation on Opentable, got seated right away. The view of downtown LA high-rises is fantastic, the hotel pool is on the side, very typical LA scene: pricey, nothing really stood out. Food came out quick: fried chicken ($26) was good albeit on the salty side. Enjoyed my dungeness crab pasta ($37) and husband also liked the skirt steak with salad on the side ($32). We were staying in the hotel so it's convenient, no complaints.... A 6% "wellness charge" is automatically added on the bill. Server said it's for back staff insurance (?) and also optional... $21 Aperol + $7 Diet Coke + 3 items above is $130 + wellness charge + tip for 2 people out the door... just another lunch in LA!

We came to celebrate a birthday. We had reservations and enjoyed the ambiance and views. I recommend coming at sunset. Food was delicious and of excellent quality meat. Servers are friendly and check in frequently. I'm looking forward to returning soon.

What better way to spend a Friday afternoon than happy hour at Cara Cara with two good friends? Located on the rooftop of a L.A. Proper Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, the experience starts the moment you walk into the building. The staff is incredibly friendly, guiding you to the elevator and welcoming you again at the top floor. Once upstairs, you're greeted with not only warm hospitality but also stunning views of downtown LA. It really sets the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable time. For our afternoon bite, we shared the ceviche, focaccia, and beef brisket tacos -- all of which were absolutely delicious. The drinks were equally impressive, making happy hour feel like a true treat. If you're looking for a way to wrap up the week, I highly recommend spending it here. A cocktail in hand, amazing food, beautiful views, and great conversation with friends -- it doesn't get much better than that.

Located on the roof of the Proper Hotel, Cara Cara was a lovely time for dinner. It was a bit windy & cold - but there are heaters available. I tried their Mac & cheese, cauliflower tacos & cheesecake. Everything tasted great! The tacos were full of flavor and easily my favorite of the bunch. Mac & cheese was a little underwhelming and a small portion size.... I would probably opt for something else if I came back. The cheesecake tasted good but it was a bit crumbly and I prefer a creamier cheesecake. The cauliflower tacos were 5/5 though. Great serving size, good flavor, incredible. Loved the carrots on the side too. Service was fine! Views were great. Enjoyed being up high and looking at the skyscrapers & helicopters.

View: AMAZING Cocktails: AMAZING Food: ehhh I've been here a handful of times now because this view is the best in LA. Sunset on this rooftop is a dream. The cocktails are delicious. I've found the food and the service to be hit and miss. On one occasion there was a coursed menu that we chose to do and every dish was incredible, and a great deal. On two other occasions the food fell flat and for the price I was left disappointed. I will keep coming back for the view!

    How is parking?

There's a lot right next door you can park in

Our group of friends wants to come here for drinks and chill at the bar or on the patio, do we need a reservation?

It's always best to make a reservation especially with a group of friends. Have fun!

    Is there a dress code?

    I don't think so.

    Do they offer bottomless mimosas?

Is this location acceptable for a dinner for my 18 year old son?

I brought my 18 year old daughter and she loved it

    Is there a brunch menu?

    Yes

Is there indoor seating there at the rooftop or all exposed? Rain tomorrow so would like to know whether to still go or cancel and go to an indoor setting. Ty!

    Yea there is indoor seating

I want to make a reservation with my wife for 3:30pm tomorrow, will it be an issue if I bring my Month year old baby girl?

Nope. It's a full service restaurant in a hotel. Its also a cool rooftop. Automated parking next lot or valet in front.

Do they do anything for birthdays? Slice of cake etc?

I don't believe so, but it's totally worth inquiring about.

What's the noise level? Is it good for conversation?

It's pretty average for rooftop dining/drinking, though it also depends on how busy the restaurant is

Do I need a reservation if I just want to get drinks at the bar?

It depends on the time of day. Usually at the start of dinner service, it's not that busy. During peak hours, I'd highly recommend making a reservation

How do I make a reservation?

I believe they're on Open Table. Otherwise, you can just call to make one. Enjoy the food and the view!!

Are reservations required prior to going?

Reservations and a credit card to hold the table will be required through online open table Reservation site

    Is it 21 and up?

It's a restaurant, so there's no age requirement. ID will be requested upon ordering an alcoholic beverage.

Do they charge any sort of health fee?

I’m not sure what this refers to specifically, but no additional fees are added. I believe a gratuity may be charged; if large groups are being accommodated only. Feel free to to call and inquire for special accommodations when making your… Read more

Are kids able to go in?

Yes, they're more than welcome 🙂

How do you make reservations for the rooftop?

Go to opentable.com, or google the restaurant name. You'll see the "reserve a table" on the same page.

Staying at the hotel. Do you need a res for just late night drinks?

Can we bring an outside birthday cake to Cara Cara for our dinner reservation? ....confirmed.. you can but $5 cake cutting fee.. FYI

I'm sure you can. Just let them know prior to the reservation

Since this is an outdoor space, must we show proof of vaccination? Or what are other alternatives?

Sorry for the long narrative:…read more 1) I planned out a special night for my wife throughout all of Level 8 2) Had reservations set at Lucky Mizu for Dinner to Mr. Wanderlust for Cocktails and Entertainment and then to Sinners and Santos for Drinking and Dancing for Latin Night 3) Showed up for our 6:45 PM reservation at Lucky Mizu but was turned away 3 times stating they didn't have seats available. After being seated 40 minutes later, service took 20 minutes to take our order, and another 30 minutes to be served. Food was 'okay', there was no entertainment, and multiple customers were unhappy with similar slow service... but some of them were comped parts of their meals.. we didn't even get a sorry until we spoke to the manager on our way out, expressing the reason was they had no idea it would be this busy on a Thursday (they take reservations, so...), and also blamed an 'all you can eat promotion' they promoted earlier, and they only had two serves on staff that night. 4) We were late to Mr. Wanderlust, but were luck to get two seats at the bar after another couple left. We order two cocktails and a coffee... and were charged just over $140. Then, we were asked to move because they wanted to take our seats. We asked about the bill to the bartendar, and she expressed that since she didn't take our original order, she couldn't help us. She simply just had us stand there. We were not going to pay since it seemed way off... until finally we spoke to a guy walking by. We showed him our ticket/receipt and said out loud, "this isn't right". He came back quickly with a revised bill of almost $120. This was still far too high, but no one else seemed interested in helping us find resolve, so we ate it since we didn't want to be late for part 3 of the night. 5) Hoping to salvage the night with drinks and dancing... we tried to find the entrance to Sinners and Santos for their advertised Latin night. We had made reservations here too, and had full confirmation of the reservation... BUT, after finally being directed to the entrance (outside on the patio), they were closed. No sign of why and no one who worked at the other locations had a reason, but they were just simply closed. 6) So, after paying $35 for parking, about $140 in cocktails and food while waiting for our initial reservation at Golden Hour and Que Barbaro, $150+ for dinner at Lucky Mizu, and $120 at Mr. Wanderlust... approximately $500 total... we didn't even get to dance. Maybe this place had a bad night, but based on what the workers said, and how they treated us... it sure seems like the norm. Don't get me wrong, the place is cool... some really great experiential elements and nice photo ops... but I would have had a much better time somewhere else. Super disappointed in this place.

We were able to get a seat on the coach and order drinks from the bar relatively quickly. Prices were pretty typical of LA ($18-25 a cocktail) but I would say I probably won't come back this late as it's in a shadier part of town. They have a bouncer and it was fine inside, but it's not a place where you can bar hop if that's what you're looking for as the area is seedy. Would be interested to try the food next time, but again, the safety and comfort of the light of day.

NOVEMBER 26.2025…read more I've been through many iterations of The Library Bar over the years... from small and cozy secret bar for those that work in the looming skyscrapers of Downtown LA to being some noisy urban hip hop affair that served godawful drinks (see my past review!), and on back to being a calm and casual neighborhood bar again. The interior never changes... dark... illuminated by candlelight... the bust of Shakespeare over the fireplace, the shelves of old books-- all of it remains intact. But this latest Library Bar seems to have finally dialed in what was always sorely missing in that it showcases a conscientious staff that all seem to know how to mix drinks while treating the customer well by leaving them be. On one night my date and I share a "Black Manhattan," basically a Manhattan with the generous addition of Averna, and it's terrific. On another night, I go for Happy Hour and a few pints of Guinness on draft that are surprisingly proper and go well with their excellent and, I'm told, homemade Hummus & Veggies Plate. The music at this current Library Bar is pretty much on point and is never so loud as to interfere with the conversations that patrons seem to come here for... something you should come here for too, and maybe at Happy Hour specifically if you're looking for a nice bump in your day and to spend an hour, well, happily.

I finally was able to check it off, thanks to a hotel offer with a dining credit. Dahlia is the gorgeous petite space behind the larger ground floor restaurant space now called Cabrillo (formerly Caldo Verde). Dahlia opened as a bespoke cocktail lounge, then began to offer tea. Now it's just tea. There are five 2-tops and two 4-top tables. All food and beverage venues at the Proper used to be under the auspices of famed chef Suzanne Goin and her business partner/sommelier Caroline Styne. They are no longer affiliated with the Proper, but many of their dishes/contributions remain. The last named vestige of them is on the tea menu, "Suzanne's Deviled-Egg Sandwich". The tea menu has several options: Classic, with a seasonal mocktail, or with different champagnes. I opted for the Classic experience, because the mocktail had mocha, not my fave. Server Lluvia was clearly a Dahlia veteran; she offered a tea-smelling of all the teas that interested me as well as crowd favourites. I ultimately chose one of these faves, Mad Hatter's Tea Party, which had passionfruit and vanilla. I declined milk/cream, but did get lemon. There were rock sugar sticks on the table. It seems the selection of tea sandwiches and sweet treats changes every so often, although the vanilla bean scone, dried currant scone, Devonshire cream and apricot orange jam seem like constants. The sandwich selection at my visit were: cucumber, crab/creme fraiche, beet hummus on pita, smoked salmon and Suzanne's deviled egg. All were delish, the beet, crab and deviled egg especially. The sweet treats were: orange fig butter cookie, spiced apple brown butter crumble, cranberry frangipane hand pie, chocolate mocha macaron, pumpkin madeleine, plus the 2 scones. All were excellent. There were no leftovers. A bit pricey, but a relaxing and lovely experience. The room was not crowded when I visited, adding to the calmness of my visit.

It's not surprising given the neighborhood and decor, but I think they lean towards more Japanese spirits and beers. Happy hour specials were still going on. I'm not sure if they thought they were gonna get that much business on a holiday but I think there's only maybe one or two people behind the bar. Since it was early when we got there, it was still not that crowded. I got the special which was a shot of Japanese whisky and a beer. Great price! Haha. I've walked by before where this place is really crowded so I assume there's a lot more people working behind the bar during the regular busy hours. Just a great place to grab drink drinks.

My girlfriend and I ordered two Old Fashioneds made with Ilegal Mezcal. The bottle being used was nearly empty, and as professionals in the hospitality industry, we are very familiar with proper pour standards. It was clear there wasn't enough product left for two consistent drinks. The bartender, Bryan, prepared both cocktails without using a jigger. When I politely asked why one drink appeared noticeably lighter than the other and why he wasn't measuring the pour, he smirked, gave a slight laugh, and responded that he "knows the exact measurement of his glasses." The tone and gesture felt dismissive and mocking rather than professional. Instead of addressing a reasonable concern with transparency, the response came across as defensive and condescending. To make matters worse, a 20% gratuity was automatically added, bringing the total to $71.12 for two inconsistent Old Fashioneds. Precision, consistency, and respect are basic standards in this industry. Unfortunately, this experience did not reflect that. We won't be returning.

A group of my friends and I have come here three different times, really wanting to like this place because the atmosphere is beautiful and lively. Unfortunately, each visit has been consistently disappointing due to the same bartender--a shorter male with visible tattoos and facial hair, who seems to regularly work one side of the bar. On all three occasions, we experienced being ignored while trying to order, even as other guests who arrived after us were served first. The first time, we were eventually told "you guys can wait" in a rude tone of voice while he continued taking other orders. The second time, we were never helped at all and had to move to another part of the bar, where a female bartender provided much better service. The third visit was the most concerning. When we tried to get his attention, he responded in a dismissive and rude tone, and as he walked away, we overheard him make an inappropriate comment about us under his breath calling us out of our name and we felt very disrespected so much so that we just left. We completely understand that weekends can get busy, but consistently dismissive and disrespectful service--especially across multiple visits--is not acceptable and we've also seen him be rude to other guests as well. Aside from this issue, the venue itself is great, which is why we gave it multiple chances. I really hope management can address this, as it impacts the overall appearance and experience of the establishment. Thank you.
