Mrs Fish is a stylish Japanese restaurant and sushi bar hidden underground in Downtown Los Angeles. The location feels unique and fun, with art on the walls and even a large fish tank that makes the space feel lively and interesting The sushi is often praised for tasting fresh and delicious, with different nigiri options and creative rolls. Many people also enjoy shareable small plates

Been wanting to check this place out for a while and finally got to this weekend. We came here for a birthday celebration dinner. We were sat underneath the large food tank, which was awesome to watch. The ambiance was posh with the dimmed lights and the contemporary art decor. They had a wide selection of sushi, nigiri, sashimi, and other tasty dishes, and an even wider choice of Japanese whiskey and other libations. Our server Christopher was great! My menu special mentions are the spicy pork ramen (no pix...boo) which had a really flavorful broth and the lobster uni pasta was delish along with the black cod. Definitely loved the experience! Note: Valet parking is available. They also offer a karaoke room, party room, and prix fixe menu.

I've been a fan of Mrs Fish for a couple decades but haven't been in a while. I went for my birthday this year and it's still such a unique and fun experience especially if you love seafood (although they have an amazing chicken dish for those that don't eat fish, pic attached).. The seaweed salad and edamame were beautifully presented and delicious. I had several different types of sashimi and they were all melt in your mouth delicious. Staff was kind and attentive and service was top notch. Obviously the ambiance is what brings most, but the food really is top tier still to this day and I'm happy it's still an LA staple that's busy even on a Sunday evening at 7pm. Thank you for a wonderful birthday dinner!

Of course the vibe was great; you feel like you're in a cool aquarium bar. The food was nice. We loved the pasta and the rolls. The drinks were great too though the highball for whatever reason was a little too strong for what I liked that day. Service was fast. Recommend valet parking. Parking lot down the street is more expensive.

Food was so yummy A must try is the skirt steak skewers, garlic edamame, baked blue crab roll, teriyaki chicken plate and cucumbers. Yum! The ambiance was nice but the waiter could have been nicer. He had no smile on his face and was just really cold. Hope he was just having a bad day or else he's not a very nice waiter. The cocktail was soooo good it was a yellow matcha mix and tasted so refreshing.

OTONANO AMASA - Haku JAPANESE VODKA in this beautiful BIRD GLASS :)

I've heard about Mrs. Fish from a Friend who said that they have good food and a beautiful ceiling aquarium. When we arrived it was my first time in the area, we came at night but it felt safe even though there were people in the street sleeping or asking for coins 'coz its a busy road, like a lot of cars passing by. Parking is easy here, I think I saw 3 paid parkings nearby. We were greeted by a wonderful doorman, really friendly. I didn't expect that the restaurant was more down, like we walked down to a stairs and saw this beautiful ceiling Aquarium , but not every ceiling has the aquarium . We got lucky to be seated near this Aquarium, we could just look up and we could enjoy looking at the Fishes. There's so many selections in the menu, but here is what I ordered for us.        (APPETIZER) *PORK BELLY *PORK GYOSA       (MAINS)       *RAINBOW ROLL        *TOMAHAWK *UNI LOBSTER PASTA        (DESSERT) *BREAD PUDDING *HAZENUT CHOCOLATE CAKE           (DRINKS)    *OTONANO AMASA *WATER Our appetizers were good, both the GYOSA & the PORK BELLY, but I like the Pork belly more, very well seasoned, it's so tasty . My drink came in this beautiful BIRD GLASS, it was a delicious HAKU JAPANESE VODKA with matcha, calpico, yuzu, and green tea. I ordered a UNI LOBSTER PASTA for myself and this is so delicious and savory, and under my pasta there is a lot of chuncky lobsters and uni. I will order this again here next time I visit. My husband and Son had the TOMAHAWK & RAINBOW ROLL. I didn't pay attention much on the Rainbow roll, but it must have been good since my husband and son finished it all. The TOMAHAWK came looking like it was overcooked , but Nope it was not overcooked , it's actually Tender , Juicy , and Yummy . For dessert we had a PUDDING & CHOCOLATE cake, the chocolate cake was moist & good, not overly sweet. Our Pudding was so hard, the top is soft, but the bottom part we couldn't even slice it, that's how hard it was. Our server was awesome, plenty of Paid parking, and the Food was delicious.

3rd time at Mrs. Fish and I'm pretty impressed! A great selection of cocktails, eats and a beautiful interior design We went for the Yellowtail, Spicy Tuna and Tokyo Filet and were thoroughly pleased. The filet sits on mustard greens in shoyu butter - beautifully plated but so fire!

Omg talk a about an experience - I love that this place is multilevel after you walk downstairs the fish tanks. Add the most amazing decor. You really feel transformed like this is what a downtown LA dining experience should really feel like. It's a little pricey, but you're getting very fresh cut sushi specially for someone like me that loves sashimi. They're yellowtail did not disappoint. Lots of great healthy options so delicious. You could taste the quality of the food in the flavors. The drinks were made nice and strong. Very polite staff they lagged a little Ok drinks But overall great experience !

I had a great time at Mrs. Fish. The music was fun, the ambience was captivating and the food was good. I got the spicy pork ramen bowl it was delicious. I loved the Karaage. We also got gyozas and the crispy tuna was really good too. I wouldn't recommend the spicy shrimp with the head on. But other than that all of the food was delicious. I arrived early so i waited at the bar for my table to be ready and Caleb was a very attractive and attentive bar tender. He is such a cutie. There were several very attractive and fun people whose company i enjoyed at the bar. It was such a great night.

If I could give them 10 stars I would, what a FANTASTIC experience. Walking in, the ambience was so cool with the art and lower (but not too low) lighting. I liked that there were multiple levels but you could still see throughout the restaurant for the open concept. We got seated almost right away and ordered non alcoholic cocktails. I loved that they had Seedlip so I could feel as if I was drinking a fancy drink without the alcohol. Our food was outstanding. We started with miso soup, followed by a seared tuna on top of fried rice cake, and then a lobster sushi roll topped with wagyu (which was SO good). Our "main" item was miso black cod and holy cow was I mad I had to share that with my husband. It was so buttery and scrumptious and just melted in my mouth For dessert we had the white chocolate bread pudding as much as I think I could've downed that myself, it was the perfect portion to share after that meal 100/10 recommend

This place is amazing. The interior itself is a WOW factor. From the entrance all the way to their bathroom has an amazing designs. Now or server is very helpful and nice. He recommended most of our food. My friend just ask him and he delivered it very well. All the food that we ordered is delicious and devine. I'll definitely come back for a date night here. It's pricey but I guess you pay for the location. Now check out what we ordered. Oh and it has live DJs on Friday. It's like the Miagi's restaurant that I went to before my teenaged years. Come check out. Highly recommend it.

Potato Salad? 10/10 Crispy rice tuna thing 11/10 (extra points for structural integrity) Miso Cod 12/10 (extra points points for being PIPING HOT, and having a good veg ratio of EDIBLE delicious kale. Yes KALE!) I wanted to lick the plate on this one. Soooo good. Lychee Mocktail custom created for me 9/10 (Garnish only one little lychee on a stick?! ) Ambiance: hipster anime Japanese, soulful jazzy techno lounge music, kinda almost too loud for convo (and it's only Tuesday... I bet Friday is dialed up) Service 10/10: attentive, quick, genuine smiles, charming doorman, bussers are seamless in whisking dishes away, really good timing on the courses (I had the fixe menu). Looking foward to checking out the karaoke room downstairs!

Has anyone tried the new tomahawk steak? Is it on the bone?

I'm celebrating my daughters bday. Just saw you can have a personalize menu (with her name on it) how do I do this? Have call the restaurant but can't get a hold of anyone.

You have to contact the restaurant by email. See the "Contact" page on their website.

If I go with a party of 8 do we have to pick from the family style menu? Of can we pick from the regular menu?

You can all order on your own.

    Where is the parking?

Valet parking is the best option. Under $20 If you park in the structure that's around the corner it's about $25-30

    Is it good for kids?

If the kids like sushi 🍣 yes

Where would be the best place to sit for a date night with the wife? And what time does live music play on a Saturday?

Music is from 8 to 11:30pm. I would recommend sitting on the top level so y'all have good views of the entire restaurant plus a little privacy.

How much is the five course dinner?

I think it may change occasionally, but when I was there this past weekend it was $85 per person.

    Are children allowed?

Hi! All ages are welcome at anytime as long as you have a reservation. If you are a walk-in coming in at 10:45pm OR later, everyone must be 21+ with a physical ID.

    Are there any vegan options?

I believe they have a vegan noodle bowl. If you have IG, check their page. I'm almost certain I saw that noodle bowl listed

Is there an elevator available for those in wheelchairs?

Yes. Every building in the states must be ADA compliant and especially in LA county where build codes are strict.

    What is the price range?

Actually for the price of delicious fresh sushi 🍣 it was relatively inexpensive compared to fine establishments trust me. Also ambiance is cool especially the tunnel coming in lots of wow 😮 factors here very cool Nobu Club japanese exclusive sushi… Read more

Is this place a nice spot for my sons 18th birthday dinner?

I don't see why not! I would suggest that you snag a reservation, well in advance, if you want a prime time slot.

Has anybody been there with a group larger than seven? If so, have you had their fix meal? I have reservations and I'm thinking about canceling because we are unable to pick what we want due to our group being a party of eight. Is it worth it?

I recently visited with a group of 8 and had to do the fixe menu. I suggest being upfront with your party as it's little food for a heavy price. Plus, some people may not be fans of some of the items chosen. I left, still hungry

For the dress code are jeans and a nice ok?

Our dress code is upscale causal. This means no swimwear, sleepwear, or gym wear. Jeans and a nice top is perfect!

Do they take walk ins or you need a reservation?

Reservations are strongly recommended. There's bar space and chance table availability for walk-ins, but I would recommend making a reservation ahead of time - especially if you're planning to come during peak hours after 7pm.

    Any dress code?

It's an upscale restaurant so you'll definitely want to dress up. Not suit and tie, but dapper attire. You'll feel out of place if you're anything but.

Is there happy hour or any specials during the week?

Yes! We do have happy hour from 5pm-6:30pm Tuesday through Friday.

Anyone reserve for more than 10 people? Any problems calling in reservations for more than 8 people?

I used their website to inquire for a 16 people reservation and had to choose prix fixe menu options. I had someone call me back the next day with the closest available time!

    Need vaccination proof?

They didn't check ours this past Saturday night

If I'm not vaccinated do they accept neg PCR tests?

Need to show proof of vaccination

First off, I have to praise 1933 group because I have loved every single bar they have revitalized and this one is no different. In keeping with their MO, The Lucky Tiki is a speakeasy with a vintage vibe. I won't give away how to get in but let's just say, it's near the front of Highland Park Bowl. My husband and I didn't have a reservation, but we were able to put our name in and got seated about an hour or so later. I was amazed as soon as I walked in the door! It's just floor to ceiling decorated with everything tiki. So many fun details and even interactive elements that turn on when a particular drink was ordered. That was probably my favorite part honestly. We ordered the Tiki Diablo, which is a large tiki drink with a flaming volcano. And yes it does have an interactive element. It was really good. Very fruity and strong, but not overly so. Service was excellent. Our waitress was on it and even waited to make sure my husband was back from the bathroom before lighting our drink on fire. We didn't try any food this time, but a lot of people were ordering the Hawaiian pizza. Do with that what you may. Will definitely be back ti try more drinks and food. A group of my friends and I have come here three different times, really wanting to like this place because the atmosphere is beautiful and lively. Unfortunately, each visit has been consistently disappointing due to the same bartender--a shorter male with visible tattoos and facial hair, who seems to regularly work one side of the bar. On all three occasions, we experienced being ignored while trying to order, even as other guests who arrived after us were served first. The first time, we were eventually told "you guys can wait" in a rude tone of voice while he continued taking other orders. The second time, we were never helped at all and had to move to another part of the bar, where a female bartender provided much better service. The third visit was the most concerning. When we tried to get his attention, he responded in a dismissive and rude tone, and as he walked away, we overheard him make an inappropriate comment about us under his breath calling us out of our name and we felt very disrespected so much so that we just left. We completely understand that weekends can get busy, but consistently dismissive and disrespectful service--especially across multiple visits--is not acceptable and we've also seen him be rude to other guests as well. Aside from this issue, the venue itself is great, which is why we gave it multiple chances. I really hope management can address this, as it impacts the overall appearance and experience of the establishment. Thank you.

Oysters - good though small, enjoyed the kelp mignonette Korean Aguachile - Delicate tilefish completely overwhelmed by cold kimchi broth with actual icy slush in it and small amounts of fish Steak Tartare - The hot stone bowl seemed to defeat the purpose of a tartare, as it cooked the steak once mixed. The perilla leaves were also cut in large strips relative to the beef. Chilled Acorn Noodle - The perilla oil was nonexistent in flavor though the dish didn't need it and was good without. Overall, portions were small for the price and dishes weren't well-executed so despite being excited for more Korean options in West LA, I'd much rather make the drive to Koreatown for better portions, prices, and flavors.

Cocktails are strong and actually well done, but what makes it stand out is the experience. There's a learning component woven in, which makes it feel more intentional than your average bar. It's one of those spots you go to when you want something different... not just another loud bar.. something immersive and a little mysterious.

The drinks were strong (in the best way ) but still super smooth and enjoyable. Shoutout to Rich for being such an incredible host--he made our group feel welcomed, taken care of, and really elevated the whole experience. A couple things to note: there is parking available, but it is paid (you can either text to pay or use the kiosk machines). The experience itself lasts about 40-60 minutes, which felt like the perfect amount of time. The only downside for me was that the bathroom is shared for both genders. For safety reasons, I personally wish they were separate--so ladies, I'd recommend going with someone just to be safe. You just never know. They also give you a little treat afterwards, which was a really nice touch and a sweet way to end the visit! Overall, I'd definitely come back and recommend it to others

Took some friends here who were visiting and wanted a Speakeasy experience…read more It was maybe 9:30/10pm on a Friday and it wasn't super busy. We were able to get a seat on the coach and order drinks from the bar relatively quickly. Prices were pretty typical of LA ($18-25 a cocktail) but I would say I probably won't come back this late as it's in a shadier part of town. They have a bouncer and it was fine inside, but it's not a place where you can bar hop if that's what you're looking for as the area is seedy. Would be interested to try the food next time, but again, the safety and comfort of the light of day.

NOVEMBER 26.2025…read more I've been through many iterations of The Library Bar over the years... from small and cozy secret bar for those that work in the looming skyscrapers of Downtown LA to being some noisy urban hip hop affair that served godawful drinks (see my past review!), and on back to being a calm and casual neighborhood bar again. The interior never changes... dark... illuminated by candlelight... the bust of Shakespeare over the fireplace, the shelves of old books-- all of it remains intact. But this latest Library Bar seems to have finally dialed in what was always sorely missing in that it showcases a conscientious staff that all seem to know how to mix drinks while treating the customer well by leaving them be. On one night my date and I share a "Black Manhattan," basically a Manhattan with the generous addition of Averna, and it's terrific. On another night, I go for Happy Hour and a few pints of Guinness on draft that are surprisingly proper and go well with their excellent and, I'm told, homemade Hummus & Veggies Plate. The music at this current Library Bar is pretty much on point and is never so loud as to interfere with the conversations that patrons seem to come here for... something you should come here for too, and maybe at Happy Hour specifically if you're looking for a nice bump in your day and to spend an hour, well, happily.

The appeal of this place is not offset by the negatives…read more It's really marketed as more of an exclusive experience. Kind of like a speakeasy. The service is a one out of five for sure. We had two separate servers because one went home during the middle of our dinner and both were equally horrible. Not even exaggerating when I say we waited at least 15 minutes after we asked for the check and there were probably only 10 tables in the entire restaurant. And we had to call her back over to ask for a second time. SMH. The food although flavorful was so ridiculously priced it was not even funny. I got a "ribeye ". Was literally eight thin slices of steak, like 1" x 1" size for $42! No, I will not be coming back here for so many reasons. The view is great. Castaways is definitely not what it used to be in the way of quality but at least you get more and you get the view. But definitely not worth it going to this place. It was quite a frustrating evening. Also, if you do decide to go here, just bring a coat when it's a little bit cooler in the evenings cause it does get cold up here and getting the staff to manage the heaters correctly is a whole other frustration. Oh, and valet is your only option for parking up here. It's kind of crazy because a few years ago you could just go park in the lot or the garage that's available there but now they're charging you $11 and it's chaos. I will say that the view up here is great though so if you're willing to forgo all of that for a view for like a one time date or something like that, it might be worth it
