I've had this restaurant in my bookmarks for 4 years and I was finally able to come for their DineLA 2026 menu! The interior was better than I imagined; you descend steps to find yourself surrounded by an aquarium and beautiful art pieces. I was a bit worried that I wouldn't feel full from the meal, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the portion sizes were really generous. We each got the marinated cucumbers and mentaiko potato salad; the cucumbers were a bit on the spicy side but the potato salad was amazing! I got the double tuna on crispy rice which was probably my favorite part of the meal; the spicy tuna is definitely not spicy though which was good for me but others might be disappointed. The salmon tartare tacos were crispy and flavorful. The beef short rib was super tender and I loved the root vegetables and mashed potatoes, and the nigiri platter had a good amount of rice but also thick pieces of fish. The desserts were the perfect finish to the meal. Also, I gor the Tsuma cocktail and it tasted like tangerine juice! Our waitress was super sweet and checked in on us often. They also cleared empty plates from the table very quickly. If you spend a certain amount per person you can get drink tokens for Perch next door, which was a nice surprise. The fish quality here is not bad if you plan to order a bunch of sushi but it can be pricey. When we went they had a deal where if you spent minimum $60 per person you got a free drink token to go up to the rooftop bar at perch. This was easy to do if you got the pre fixe menu which was about $70 per person. I liked the tuna crispy rice because they used real seared ahi tuna on it instead of mashed spicy tuna. A couple of weeks ago, my daughter and I finally had the chance to try Mrs. Fish, and what a fun experience it was! From the moment you walk in, the décor makes you feel like you're entering an underwater tunnel. Once inside, you're greeted by a massive fish tank on the ceiling. Our server was amazing and offered several recommendations, which is always appreciated. We started with the garlic edamame, and it was absolutely delicious--we cleaned the entire plate. Next was the seared tuna crispy rice, which was different from the typical version. Instead of chopped tuna, it had a whole piece of tuna on top of the crispy rice. We also tried the salmon carpaccio. It was good, but I felt it could have used a little more flavor. My favorite dish was the Chilean sea bass ceviche. I absolutely fell in love with it! I think originally it was bc we wanted a booth but they ended up seating us at 2 wobbly tables pushed together that seemed like a huge fire hazard. We came right around opening for their happy hour. The inside truly is beautiful, especially with the fish tanks, the tall ceilings, and the decor. The space isn't as large as I thought it would be. Seating is on various levels which are visible to each other. As you enter the restaurant, you have to walk down a set of stairs to get to the dining area. Not sure how they deal with people who have mobility issues for whom stairs might be a problem. I couldn't tell if there was an elevator somewhere. When you arrive, there is someone at the door to check and see whether or not you have reservations. We did not, but since we arrived around opening, there were plenty of tables available. Their happy hour only goes from 5 PM to 6:30 PM on Tuesdays through Thursdays and 4 PM to 6 PM on Fridays. It did not fill up and the time that we were there. The restaurant service was very good and attentive. The food was good. We had the agedashi tofu, the pork belly skewers, the tai yuzu carpaccio, the golden yuzu roll, and the yellowtail scallion roll. My favorite dish was the tai yuzu carpaccio. I would definitely want to return to try a few more dishes, particularly the mentaiko potato salad and the seared rice dishes. I ordered the pork belly skewers for the Japanese eggplant which I was hoping to be like the eggplant I had in Japan. It was close, but not quite there. The vibe is very "club dining" - meaning there's a faint echo of bottle service ghost pass, and you half expect a DJ to show up and tell you to clear your table so he can set up his booth.
