I'm a big fan of Javier's and I'm glad they are in DTLA across the street from Crypto.com Arena (aka Staples Center) and the Convention Center. It's upscale Mexican food so be prepared for upscale prices. The interior is very similar to other Javier's locations and it's really a vibe inside. Once you step inside, the restaurant opens up and the space is quite massive. Servers are nice and your food comes out pretty quickly. I always stick to the shrimp and crab enchiladas and it never disappoints. There's the perfect amount of tomatillo sauce and there is a good portion of seafood inside the enchiladas. After loading up on house chips and salsa, these enchiladas always hit the spot. I've also tried the lamb chops and they were delicious. I came here this past Saturday evening for a friend's birthday dinner. The service was exceptional. We pre-ordered our main dishes, and the staff knew exactly who received each meal without needing name cards at our seats. The atmosphere was fantastic, versatile enough for both a fancy night out and a casual dinner. I ordered the salmon with mashed potatoes and vegetables, and the dish was phenomenal. WARNING: Please carpool. There is only $30 valet available. My first encounter with Javier's was in Cabo San lucas, Mexico. SInce I have been to Newport beach and Century City locations. However this location was not a nice experience. And with this early evening out experience, it was the first time I have ever pondered that tipping culture may be outdated and obsolete. I have really received better service from Denny's and iHop. When this is supposed to be fine dining I do expect fine service with it too. The food: It was good, but I order the same thing at all locations, the lobster enchiladas. So thumbs up with the consistency at the California locations. I do think the Cabo location has a little extra twist of tasty. Drinks: I don't remember them being this lackluster at locations. The restaurant is so beautiful and has a nice ambiance to it. It makes you feel like you have traveled somewhere outside of downtown L.A. but that is where the magic ends. Our waitress felt very matter of fact with us. She wasn't outgoing and welcoming. I wanted to try something different and was going to ask her for a suggestion, but she really made me feel like she just wanted my order and don't bother her with anything else. When it was time to collect the plates from the table, it was weird. The men helping to clear the table never said anything like excuse me when reaching across us. I am only 5'3 so me being chest to table is pretty normal. One of them came too close for comfort to my chest when reaching across trying to clear the tables. Slow down and pay attention to where you are reaching. At the end of dinner, we never even looked at the dessert menu because at that point we were just ready to go. Upon departure, we had to stand and wait for our vehicles. All 3 of use drove in separate cars. So, we spent almost what we paid for meals in parking. The food- amazing as always. I don't know how but every location makes the dishes the exact same way every time which is not easy. This javiers is located across from the Crypto arena so you know its gonna be busy. But as soon as you walk in you are greeted and added to the waitlist. It does get busy but the good thing is this place is huge so you wont be waiting long unless they are understaffed. From the moment you sit the waiter is asking you if you want any drinks and if you ask for recommendations from the menu the waiter actually gives you some choices and opinions on menu items. The food quality is amazing. Like yeah its expensive but it taste so delicious so be prepared to pay big bucks for the food here. I've been here for a big corporate dinner before. It's strangely flashy with a bunch of expensive cars parked out front at valet. We came in on a weekday evening and got a seat quickly but had the worst server. Like one of the worst I've had in a long time. He wasn't specifically rude but was slow, forgot parts of our order, and was nowhere to be found for most of the night. Came here for lunch with my sisters and honestly, the food did not disappoint--everything was flavorful and well-presented. We started with the octopus,which was super tender (not rubbery at all ) and paired really nicely with fresh avocado, herbs, and a light citrusy kick. Definitely one of the better octopus dishes I've had. The shrimp empanadas were crispy, golden, and packed with flavor. Topped with crema, avocado sauce, and fresh onions, they had the perfect balance of crunchy + creamy + tangy. Loved that they were stuffed full or shrimp and not greasy. For the main, the steak fajita dish came with sautéed peppers and onions, a roasted pepper, creamy beans, and guac on the side. The steak had a nice char and good seasoning, and everything on the plate complemented each other really well. The fajitas were cooked to perfection. My sisters ordered the Branzino and chicken quesadillas and Agua chile. The fish was cooked perfectly and didn't come out tasting too fishy and the quesadillas were stuffed with chicken. I love Javier's! Javier's was the first upscale Mexican restaurant I visited upon moving to California in 2000. Laguna Beach was their first location and I lived just above Main Beach so could walk there. Fast forward, 25 years later and they have expanded and renovated Newport Beach, opened Irvine and launched a gorgeous location in DTLA. The details and tequila here are the best! This location is perfect for a libation and appetizer before a game or event at Crypto Arena. It is a simple jaunt across the street. The margaritas are solid, the chips are thin and the guacamole flavorful. A grand archway greets you, cushy chairs at the bar and a lovely fireplace area for everything from a quick bite to a full meal. I know Javier's well from other locations and yet, regrettably, I didn't know they've been in DTLA for a while now. So I wandered in on a free night and the host or manager was super welcoming. I was seated immediately and had sparkling water, chips, salsa and a margarita on my table within a couple minutes! The server Miguel was friendly and absolutely on top of his game from beginning to end. The guacamole was to die for and the steak succulent. While I had no room for dessert I went for it anyway: tres leches on a cloud, man. I'm so thankful that such a beautiful venue like this exists in DTLA and in such a great location. The food was very good and the place is absolutely beautiful. We ordered the quesadilla with meat ($32 or $38, can't remember exactly). It came with guacamole which was really good. We had the mariscos enchiladas ($55) and our favorite one was the lobster one. The drinks were good, especially the guava one but also on the pricey side ($22-$25 each). The best was probably the tres leches cake ($16). The service was generally good but slow at times. Really nice looking place. Glad they were not too strike about what you wear. Everyone was pretty nice for the most part. But our waiter was missing for long periods of time. Was nice attitude. I am not a bougie eating person. This was a celebrating anniversary date. One situation we noticed was when the bus boy came to pack are to go items. He arrived with dishes on his platter. He struggled to package our stuff. He didn't scrape properly the food that was all on our plates so we had to tell him. Only reason I'm saying this is because for the prices that they charge everything should be almost perfect or have a some type of standard. Even other steakhouses we've been to were more professional. I guess he was a new worker but it seems to me that the there is a lot of turnaround in this place either way be careful what you choose to eat and I just wish this business the best that they step up a bit more. This location is across the street from the LA convention center. Parking is inside the Circa. The entrance to restaurant is beautiful and the ambiance, interior decorations are serene. We had a drink at the bar first and Joey was polite and welcoming. We came for a company holiday outing and the service was prompt and friendly. I ordered the Chile relleno one cheese and the other with meat. The cheese was delicious, I didnt like the meat option, it wasn't a flavor profile I enjoyed. The aesthetics of this restaurant are gorgeous - took me back to Tulum! The enchilada trio was delicious; would recommend. But it's definitely pricey. While I loved the vibes of this restaurant, I don't know if I would come back again. They placed our group of 6 in a corner right next to two other huge groups. We were so tight that our purses were touching. When I walked to the bathroom, I was shocked to see how big and empty the other half of the restaurant was. Why not space people out a little so they aren't squished? The room echoed so much and I could barely hear my friends; rather the voices of the people next to us. And don't get me started on the extremely loud music... Parking is hard but there is a lot across the street that costs $20; or street parking if you get lucky for $2/hour. read more

For appetizers, we tried the Empanadas de Camarón and Empanadas de Picadillo, which were good but nothing particularly memorable. I also had the Hibiscus cocktail, which was just okay. They also have tvs in a certain area if you would like to watch sports and eat. They also have private rooms where your party can play their own music or watch tv. Very fun place to be. Aesthetic: 10/10. Vibe: 10/10. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best--lacking seasoning and flavor, which was a huge disappointment. Service was even worse. Our waiter, Sebastian, would disappear for 30 minutes at a time, leaving us to flag down other servers just to get basic assistance. We eventually had to ask a manager to track him down. When Sebastian finally returned with the check, we discovered he had charged us twice for tip. He conveniently dropped the bill and disappeared again, almost as if he hoped we wouldn't notice. It took another 30 minutes and management intervention just to get the issue corrected. Sebastian was nowhere to be found throughout this process. Overall, the service and food were incredibly disappointing. What's sad is that the place has amazing ambiance--it just feels like one of those L.A.
