I made reservations about 2-3 weeks ago for my partners birthday. I've been previously since UCA has opened and the service was amazing, the food was okay but service and the views made up for it. So I decided to take my partner since he's been wanting to go since we would frequent the Standard rooftop back in the day. When we arrive last night for our 7pm reservation, the elevator doors opened and we greeted the hostess. She walked us to our table, I asked if that was the correct table for the lounge because when I made the reservation, I requested the lounge to ensure we'd have the lounge chair seats pictured below. She looked at me and said "it's a table," rolled her eyes and walked away. The waitress appropriated us and asked if everything was okay, I mentioned the same thing to her and she asked us to hold on while she found out more details. We sat down and waited, but decided we weren't going to stay and decided to leave to celebrate at other restaurant since the hostess was so rude and quite disrespectful. The waitress returned and shared that those tables were bigger parties. No problem but we still decided to leave because of the distaste we experienced. There are plenty of other places in DTLA with beautiful views so we simply found somewhere else with amazing service, food, and a view. Also, we saw a roach in the elevator on our way so maybe that should have been our first sign to just leave. read more

Great Jazz night and service but the ending ruined the experience. I went to Jazz Night at The Delphi and was genuinely having a great time. The atmosphere was beautiful, the music was great, and my server, Jose, was excellent. He was attentive, welcoming, and provided wonderful service throughout the evening. As a solo diner, I was required to spend a minimum of $75 to have a table, which I had no problem with, and I actually spent nearly $200. Unfortunately, the way my evening ended completely changed my experience. I was approached by someone who identified himself as the manager, Allen, and was told there was a two hour limit on my table and that I had six minutes to finish the drink I had JUST received and leave the table, or I could go stand at the bar where there were no seats available. I completely understand the need to turn tables during a popular event, but if there is a strict two hour limit, that should be clearly communicated when guests are seated, especially when a solo guest is required to meet a $75 minimum. I would have gladly planned my ordering and evening accordingly. After spending well over the required minimum, being given a six minute countdown to finish a freshly served drink and told my alternative was to stand at a crowded bar in a floor length dress and heels felt abrupt, unwelcoming, and honestly put a damper on what had otherwise been a wonderful night. Jose deserves recognition because his service was excellent, and until that interaction, I truly had a blast. I hope management reconsiders how this policy is communicated and enforced because guests should not find out about a two hour limit when they are suddenly being told they have six minutes to vacate their table. read more

Two things I'll mention to start: there's a 5% fee added to each bill. Not for the staff but for the increased costs of doing business. Or something along those lines. Then, the gratuity is also automatically added. 20% Now, will start with my usual - parking. I parked in the structure adjacent to the Delphi Hotel. Paragon Parking. Drop it into your GPS or just head to 6th & Hope. Keep in mind all the one way streets though. I read somewhere there's also valet parking. I didn't use that service so call and ask or look it up. When you enter, just follow the signs. Tip: you have to go up a set of escalators to catch the elevator that takes you up to UCA. I posted a pic of the elevator door. If you don't see that on your door, you're going the wrong way. Service was great. Rachel was her name. She was a champ handling the tables by herself, from what I could see until the rest of crew started their shifts. She was attentive, friendly and patient. I'll just say my coworker was indecisive and Rachel just waited until the order was placed without any facial expressions displaying annoyance. Then there's the food. Enjoyed the salad. The tacos not so much. Tacos were bland and I should have asked for something to give it some zing however, the tacos size were small enough that each were gone in two bites. I had bitten into each wondering if both were bland so it wasn't worth it for me to put anything on them after that. I wouldn't order them again. As for the salad and dessert, I definitely would. These two along with my two glasses of wine made the visit for me a positive one. That along with the service, views and vibe. This being said - I'll definitely be back again. They have Jazz and live music nights. I came here for an event. Nice vibes. I believe the bar manager's name was Rivin, and I want to recognize him for how he handled a less-than-ideal situation. Initially, I was disappointed with the service, as I had to search for our server multiple times and request a glass of water on three separate occasions. Although I had ordered both a drink and water, only the drink was delivered. Despite being automatically charged gratuity--which I'm generally happy to pay--the lack of follow-through and having to repeatedly track down the server was frustrating. Rivin stepped in, apologized sincerely, and took the time to explain the situation. He made a genuine effort to make things right, and it was clear he was working hard to support the team while maintaining a high level of professionalism. His attentiveness and care did not go unnoticed. Overall, the venue itself is beautiful, with breathtaking views, great music, and a fantastic jazz atmosphere on a Thursday night. We made reservations for 6:30 hoping to catch the live jazz band during our dinner. The drinks were great, the scallop ceviche appetizer was delicious and fresh. The pork belly tacos (entree) arrived, and were 2 incredibly small, bland tacos. The portion size of the chicken on another entree was huge and looked great, but was underseasoned and disappointing. Came to UCA terraza for their holiday pop up. The pop up had good reviews and lots of decor at the Santa Barbara event so we wanted to check out the LA location. Sadly decor was lack luster in comparison, drinks were good though. They had lots of holiday options but only a few came in holiday glasses. We ordered the christmapolitan and coconut hot chocolate. For food we tried the ceviche but had to request a plate of limes as the ceviche was lacking any flavor of acid. We both ordered tacos - steak and shrimp. They were fine but nothing spectacular. Glad I was able to try this spot. Definitely gives Tulum, vibes with the vibrancy of DTLA as your backdrop. Service was great, unlike many other rooftops, we don't feel rushed out of there. Our waitress Andrea was great. She seemed to know the menu and was breaking down some of the more popular drinks and some of her own favorites. We ordered the chipotle Cesar salad (added shrimp): 8/10; the guacamole, 10/10; ceviche 7.6/10; Uca fries 8/10; tacos gobernador 7/10; torta burger 10/10. The atmosphere/ view is really nice at both daytime and night. The seating area the offer is both lounge style, bar seating, and table seating. All of the employees were super nice and helpful on making recommendations. The food was good the only dish we thought could've been better was the tacos gobernador as it was lacking cheese and shrimp pieces. The drinks were good they aren't your ordinary cocktails as these both had unique ingredients. Always looking for new places to try, and came across a new rooftop, open air restaurant in DTLA named Uca Terraza. And it is hard for me to pass up a rooftop spot. So I made a reservation, ran some errands then headed over to see what the vibe was all about. There is a parking lot right outside, though it is $20 for a day pass, so probably park somewhere else nearby for a better price. Or you can probably valet at the Delphi hotel, as Uca is on the rooftop of the hotel. Once you get out of the elevator, take a few steps and you're greeted by the host. We were able to get seated right away with our reservation, yet there were still plenty of people already on the patio on a Tuesday night. The vibe is like a garden in Playa del Carmen or Tulum. Just very chill, table and couch seating with views of downtown all around you. We started out with cocktails: Daydream in Tulum and a mango forward cocktail. The Daydream was very nice, great flavor with the spiced rum adding a nuance to the drink. The mango cocktail was also complex yet subtle, refreshing... with that hint of spice. For food, we tried a couple items, based on our servers' recommendations. We started with the ceviche which had ample amount of fish and shrimp, yet was not overpowered by the citrus, which I feel is common. Here, the different flavors were allowed to shine. The queso fundido with pork longaniza and oaxaca cheese was also very nice. We also ordered the three steak tacos and pollo pibil. The move was, shredding the pollo, placing it in the tortillas that came with the chicken, and putting some of the queso fundido on top. Just a flavor explosion in your mouth. The chicken, itself, felt a little dry inside, but covered with the queso was perfect. The tacos, also, were decent, but can't say they really stood out. Overall, good experience. Service was fine, drinks were great, and that queso on top of the chicken in a taco was magic. Just a heads up, they do charge a mandatory 20% gratuity on your bill, plus a 5% "administrative fee", which you can have taken off, and I suggest you do. UCA is revitalizing the DTLA rooftop scene! We were told that the experience is modeled with Tulum vibes in mind and they definitely nailed it with a mix of the modern LA rooftop landscape. Found out about this place through miraclepopup.com and wanted to try another Christmas pop-up bar. My only other experience with Miracle was at Patrick Malloy's in Hermosa Beach, so I was expecting a whole bunch of Christmas decorations. They had some but not as over the top as Patrick Malloy's so that was a little disappointing. But they had the standard Miracle cocktail menu, so I was happy to get my favorite, the Snowball Old Fashioned. View is amazing! We sat around 8:30pm, and the view reminded me of being in New York City but less noisy. We had the guacamole, torta burger, and the steak tacos. Guacamole was good, chips were OK as a couple were soggy. Burger was inside torta buns so that was cool. I liked the steak tacos and had no complaints Server was nice. The runner was even nicer. Training might be needed as the server kept squeezing past my friend's chair which had a narrow gap between the chair and a concrete column, which could have been avoided by just going around the column on the other side. Also, the hostess didnt even say "thank you" as we walked out. The desk staff at my gym say something nice when I leave the gym so I would expect a nice lounge to do the same just to keep the energy positive. Not sure of the vibe the restaurant was going for but the entire staff was dressed super casual -- reminded me of people dressed to just go to the mall for a quick shopping trip. It wasn't even a handmade tortilla, no flavor on the meat, the pico de gallo was not tasty and the cheese made it worse. I tried adding salt and their special habanero sauce just to make it bearable to eat. Torta Burger - 4/5 - The burger is good and the Uca fries we loved more. Ceviche - 3/5 - it was good not the best. The ceviche came out warm and it's a bit questionable because normally it should come out as a cold dish. The admin fee is crazy. The gratuity on 2 guest! This used to be the Standard rooftop! We all have memories (some hazier than others) here, so a few girlfriends and I were looking forward to checking it out after work to see the changes. We were all impressed by how cleaned-up this place is. The large cushions/daybeds are gone, and the space is now a pretty, upscale rooftop restaurant with a completely different vibe. Views are amazing as always, and a live jazz band started setting up at around the time we left (8 on a Thursday). I was disappointed that they didn't have a happy hour. My office does a lot of group happy hours, and it would have been fun to explore a new spot. We shared the mushroom queso fundido, guacamole, Caesar salad, and then ordered our own dishes... I went with the steak tacos. The mushroom queso fundido was probably my fave! Everything else was fine but seemed pretty overpriced. Although the tacos were loaded with juicy steak, I don't think I'd be excited to order them again for what I paid for basic steak tacos. My friend really liked the mango cocktail and stuck with those. I tried a Conejo Dorado (tequila, curry and tunmeric, carrot juice) which was interesting but I couldn't taste much tequila, so I switched a wine. It's a great alternative to sweet drinks though; a quality savory drink is hard to find! I don't know if I'd come back after work when there are so many happy hours in the area, and I hope they implement one someday! I'd definitely go back for a cocktail and live music. So don't get tacos here. You're better off from the taco stands. My taco meat was burnt. Then the service, girl was awful. They take advantage because they charge up the butt with gratuity fees. Been excited to try this place and I have to say I was disappointed. The drinks were good. The food chicken lacked flavor , the two street tacos we ordered were ok but we paid $24 for 2 small street tacos yikes!!! When we asked for our bill instead of the waitress giving us a receipt She just asked for our cards (I thought that was so odd) so then I proceeded to ask for a receipt and she said OK. I'll go print it out. I reviewed the receipt and realized that they had place an 18% gratuity (mind. It was only two of us ) THEN they added a five dollar ADMIN FEE. What the hell is an admin fee??!!!! I even asked her if she couldn't even tell me on top of the gratuity and admin fee was the taxes. It was crazy ridiculous I'm so glad I asked for the receipt, I was able to get the gratuity and the five dollar admin fee removed.
