This is my go-to spot! Food: INCREDIBLE! Never misses! I always get their tacos or burrito. Their tortillas are made handmade and you can definitely taste it/feel it by the texture. Not only are their tortillas incredibly delicious, but the meat is also super tender and just delicious! Service: Every time I go, they are always so nice and always so quick with service! I appreciate it always! Ambiance: Seating area inside is a bit small, but they also have seating outdoors too. I've never really had a problem looking for a seat! Overall, will always be my #1 spot!! Can't recommend this place enough to anyone!

Sonoratown's hype is real and hype is justified. I don't know why I never came here when I lived in DTLA, what a miss on my part. Oh well, no time like the present. I wanted to order all the things but I exercised some restraint and just ordered the CARAMELO ($8.75 - Flour tortilla, pinto beans, Monterey Jack cheese, avocado salsa, salsa roja, avocado, cabbage.). I picked chorizo as my protein option. I also, of course, had to also add the smoky grilled poblano chile for $1.25. It was SO good and FLAVORFUL - it didn't even need the salsas. Although, I will note that both the salsas were lovely. The flour tortilla was clearly freshly made. Also, it was a massive portion. I don't know what I was expecting. If this is the size of their caramelo, I don't want to know how giant the burrito is. I also had to get the cucumber agua fresca to pair with my caramelo. It was perfectly sweetened and wonderfully refreshing. I'll have to make my way back here now to try the burrito 2.0 and chivichanga.

Sonoratown recently earned recognition in the Michelin Guide as a "recommended" or "selected" restaurant. Despite it's recognition, I honestly wasn't too impressed. Casual interior, service wasn't the friendliest -seemed bothered answering our questions and located in DTLA (so street parking only). The chimichanga shredded chicken burrito was fondly reminiscent of those 99 cent frozen, microwave burritos that I ate as a kid. Lorenza and Caramello (see my pic) were decent, but nothing that I crave to drive all the way here again. Maybe, if I as in the area with no other options... sure.

Tried the coyotas and coconut horchata with dinner and both were great! Never had a coyotas before but it's kind of like a brown sugar poptart with a hint of spices. I imagine a freshly baked one is absolutely delicious. The chiltepin salsa gives such a nice kick to the burritos and chivi.

Had this bookmarked for ages! I showed up on Sunday night at 815p and there were only two parties ahead of me. I read rumors of lines, but YMMV depending on when you show up. The menu is quite simple, but beware that no prices are listed on the main menu, but they are on the paper menus. They accept Apple Pay/credit cards. I ordered the asada burrito and the pollo caramelo and added the grilled poblano (as recommended on Yelp!). The tortillas were the true stars -- soft, nice chew, with a buttery mouth feel (probably lard). The fillings were just ok. The inside reminded me of a Taco Bell 7 layer burrito -- a lot going on but all the flavors kinda blend together. I (incorrectly) thought the beans were refried, but they are not. Whatever is going on inside, I didn't find much structure. The burrito was the best. The caramelo was a lazily folded burrito. I read that it was like a quesadilla, but I couldn't disagree more. I would skip this next time. I spent $25 and it was a lot of food, but I wasn't impressed, especially given the hype and the fact that LA should really be the pinnacle of Mexican food. Not sure if I'll make a second trip here.

This is based off my first experience trying this place. Heard great things about it. Let me tell you it's worth the hype for me. Reading the reviews, I recommend placing your order online if you don't want to wait. I got there and my order was ready. You may have to wait for a seat at the counter inside. Outside there are tables for bigger parties. I'm a flour tortilla kind of guy so this place was right up my alley. I had two tripa tacos. The crispiest tripa I have ever had without asking for them to make them that way. Bean and cheese burrito was nice and cheesy. The only thing I would say is order some extra salsa. The tacos need a little bit more in my opinion. Parking is hard to find in this area, you're lucky if you find a spot. I say give this place a try. Little pricey but worth taking a trip to Sonoratown.

Went here the other night since it was like a block away. Have always heard about how great the burrito was, so that was the priority. Line was pretty long but moved fast enough. Got an asada burrito and asada tacos. The tacos were decent, meat was good but they weren't necessarily memorable. The burrito, let me start by saying that the tortilla was wonderful. Has such a great flavor, and the perfect texture, just a great tortilla. The burrito itself was good, but felt it had too many pinto beans, to the point they were overpowering the cheese, guacamole and asada. Still a good burrito, though I feel the tortilla has a lot to do with that.

    Chivichanga
    Karina S.

I ordered beef chivichangas. The tortillas are handmaid. The chivichanga is flavored nicely and needs no salsa. This location is near the fashion district and parking is hard to find. You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. There are a few places to sit inside and they also have a few tables outside. I always order extra to take home, as they reheat nicely. These burritos are addicting and so yummy!

Finally came in-person to eat at Sonoratown after always ordering from Uber Eats/Doordash! I highly recommend coming to dine in, since the food tastes sooo good fresh. The flavors are amazing. I love their chorizo burritos and their tortillas are so unique and delicious! Limited in door seating with a couple of tables outside on the street. Parking is just typical DTLA street parking. The meter cost $6/hr nearby ‍

Gassss. Who knew tacos would be so good w flour tortillas. I like that they have cabbage on most items. The Caramelo is the best thing ever and I dream about it, I definitely want to try it with the poblano pepper. I honestly don't think I ever liked chimichangas so I don't want to comment on it, but my friends said it reminded them of a better version of the one from Costco. I called ahead and skipped the wait! Love this place and will probably dream about it.

I've heard a lot of good things about Sonoratown and finally decided to try it out. I ordered 2 lorenzas with beans and roasted poblano peppers instead of meat and they were delicious! The tostada was crunchy and you could really taste the quality. This place does not skimp on toppings and their salsas are nice and spicy. I highly recommend this place if you're in the downtown area for a quick meal!

Sonoratown does the best and is so consistent always. The red sauce is spicy and the tomatillo sauce is mild but is my favorite. One door leads into the line. Once you place your order there is plenty of seating to eat both inside or outside. The ambiance is great filled with authentic artwork, history and pictures of family and friends. I have been here on several visits and the food is always delicious. This is one of the best places in Los Angeles to eat.

    Brandon Y.

7/10 Got the carne asada burrito. Solid burrito and I love the grilled green onion they give you. Both salsas were spicy and delicious which was a great paring with the burrito, but I will say the burrito itself wasn't too special. I will still be back in the future tho since im down the block.

What is the best way to place a large order ahead of time?

Hi Jackie! Email us at Info@sonoratown.com Thank you!

Is delivery via Uber eats or postmates available at all times during business hours in your downtown location? I tried to place an order 11:30am via Uber eats and it was not available. Only the midcity location was accepting orders.

Thanks so much for the question Maribel! If you ever see that we are not available on Uber Eats or Postmates during business hours- it’s because we sometimes pause online ordering. We do this when we get multiple large orders at once or when we get…

How many people do the catering options serve (e.g., the 2lb meat option or the bean and cheese burritos)?

Each one pound tray makes 12 tacos. Each burrito tray contains 8 mini burritos. While it will depend on your guests, we recommend planning on having 3 items per person on average- (for instance, I eat 5 tacos for dinner while my friend only eats…

How long are the lines during lunchtime?

They are super fast even when the lines look long I have spent 20-30 minutes to get my food. It has also been super fast at times no more than 10 minutes so just depends. Every time its did rent, you may also call ahead and pick it up. They are fast…

Is dine-in seating available inside and/or outside? Or strictly take out and delivery still? :)

Hi there! We have outdoor seating available as of June 6th! Thanks for the question

Why do you show up on postmates but never as available to order from?

Shhhhh! It’s a secret! We’re going to be moving from doordash to Postmates soon.…

Is this a place where you have to conserve each sauce to finish your food, because I had to do that on doordash?

I would probably ask for extra sauce that's all. Other than that it's a great establishment

    Do the beans contain lard?

Our beans are vegan but our flour tortillas contain lard. If you prefer not to eat lard- we do have the Lorenza which comes on a corn tortilla instead.

    Is the salsa spicy?

I'd suggest no, but it's very subjective...plus there are different ones.

Is sonora town open during covid-19? I tried to call no one answered

Hi Jay! We reopened on 4/20 and so yes- we are open! If you call between 11am and 9pm and aren’t able to get through- it’s because we are now taking payment over the phone. That takes a long time and so sometimes it can be hard to reach us because…

Do you use pork lard in the tortillas? If someone doesn't eat pork what can they eat?

Our flour tortillas are definitely made with lard. We have one item on our menu that comes on a corn tortilla- which is called the “Lorenza” It is a crispy corn tostada served open faced- as long as you don’t top it with chorizo- it will be fine for…

What is the best time to go to avoid waiting in line?

WED and THU from 2:30pm to close :)

Is there a patio or somewhere on the premise to eat outside with my dog?

Yes, there is an outside eating counter.

    Where can i park?

If you're just going to the restaurant and don't have another reason to be DTLA, it's likely going to be expensive. Even the meters aren't cheap, and the surface lots and garages in the area are mostly going to start at $8 and go up. If you're…

So the flour tortillas contain lard, what else has lard in it here?

Nothing but the flour tortillas- but the flour tortillas are our specialty- so they are featured in every menu item except the Lorenza- which comes on a crispy corn tostada. Thanks for your question!…

Do you offer corn tortillas as well?

    Yes

Can you pay with a credit card?

    Yes

Omg I just saw this place on a Netflix series. Is this place known best for their asada tacos?

Awesome Keyon! I would say our most popular items are the asada taco, the asada or chorizo caramelo and the beef or chicken chivichanga.…

Tortilla vegan please let me know. No lard?

The Lorenza with veggies is vegan as long as you ask for no cheese! The CORN tortilla is VEGAN!

Uno and scallops so fresh. Scallops are in a ceviche-style sauce under those beautiful sea urchins. Tostada de atún - also very good. Everything chopped perfectly. Not too much heat - some red onion in there. Ceviche of yellowtail - a big portion! Enough for more than two people for sure. Comes with side of tostada-type crispy tortillas Fish taco - I really enjoyed it. Light fry, crema, tomato, lime Kanpachi collar (grilled)- comes on a big plate with tomatoes, avocado, beans and rice in a little bowl on side, fresh blue corn tortillas - my partner said this was his favorite thing. Sparkling lemonade in a jar - great!! Fresh and light and not too sweet. Overall, worth the hype. I was worried it had been so built up in my mind it wouldn't be worth the line and everything but it was great and would come back (and will!!) It's in a food court-type setting so you aren't getting a quiet, service oriented experience. But if you know that going in, you'll be fine. Don't stress about not finding a table.
