Finally came in-person to eat at Sonoratown after always ordering from Uber Eats/Doordash! I highly recommend coming to dine in, since the food tastes sooo good fresh. The flavors are amazing. I love their chorizo burritos and their tortillas are so unique and delicious! Limited in door seating with a couple of tables outside on the street. Parking is just typical DTLA street parking. Had this bookmarked for ages! I showed up on Sunday night at 815p and there were only two parties ahead of me. I read rumors of lines, but YMMV depending on when you show up. The menu is quite simple, but beware that no prices are listed on the main menu, but they are on the paper menus. They accept Apple Pay/credit cards. I ordered the asada burrito and the pollo caramelo and added the grilled poblano (as recommended on Yelp!). The tortillas were the true stars -- soft, nice chew, with a buttery mouth feel (probably lard). The fillings were just ok. The inside reminded me of a Taco Bell 7 layer burrito -- a lot going on but all the flavors kinda blend together. I (incorrectly) thought the beans were refried, but they are not. Whatever is going on inside, I didn't find much structure. The burrito was the best. The caramelo was a lazily folded burrito. I read that it was like a quesadilla, but I couldn't disagree more. I would skip this next time. I spent $25 and it was a lot of food, but I wasn't impressed, especially given the hype and the fact that LA should really be the pinnacle of Mexican food. Sonoratown recently earned recognition in the Michelin Guide as a "recommended" or "selected" restaurant. Despite it's recognition, I honestly wasn't too impressed. Casual interior, service wasn't the friendliest -seemed bothered answering our questions and located in DTLA (so street parking only). The chimichanga shredded chicken burrito was fondly reminiscent of those 99 cent frozen, microwave burritos that I ate as a kid. Went here the other night since it was like a block away. Have always heard about how great the burrito was, so that was the priority. Line was pretty long but moved fast enough. Got an asada burrito and asada tacos. The tacos were decent, meat was good but they weren't necessarily memorable. The burrito, let me start by saying that the tortilla was wonderful. Has such a great flavor, and the perfect texture, just a great tortilla. The burrito itself was good, but felt it had too many pinto beans, to the point they were overpowering the cheese, guacamole and asada. Sonoratown does the best and is so consistent always. The red sauce is spicy and the tomatillo sauce is mild but is my favorite. One door leads into the line. Once you place your order there is plenty of seating to eat both inside or outside. The ambiance is great filled with authentic artwork, history and pictures of family and friends. I have been here on several visits and the food is always delicious. This is one of the best places in Los Angeles to eat. read more

Gassss. Who knew tacos would be so good w flour tortillas. I like that they have cabbage on most items. The Caramelo is the best thing ever and I dream about it, I definitely want to try it with the poblano pepper. I honestly don't think I ever liked chimichangas so I don't want to comment on it, but my friends said it reminded them of a better version of the one from Costco. Love coming to Sonora town when in Downtown it has been a couple of months since I've last been here and it definitely feels good to be back. I walked in and was instantly greeted by the staff. They are always so kind and so nice. The interior has changed a bit since I last came but it definitely is still wonderful. Their prices are still very reasonable. I have 2 chivis, 2 tacos and an Agua de coco horchata. Everything came out very fast especially since it was not as busy and it was around 3pm so I came at a good time. I'm always hearing that this has the best burritos in LA, so I knew I had to try it. Parking can be tough at times, especially being in DTLA, but that is often expected, so not much of a shock there lol. But walking up, I thought it was a pretty cute and quaint place with a lot of history and cultural aspects inside. I automatically knew I was getting the burrito 2.0 with beef and chips, and I hoped it would be everything and more. After finishing it, I felt like it was alright, a bit messy, but nothing too crazy, and I was pretty surprised based on the prior reviews that I'm constantly hearing. Heard these guys got in the Michelin guide so I wanted to see for myself how good they are and I was impressed. It's definitely a level up from most taqueria. Instead of onions and cilantros like most spots, they give you a little bit of cabbage, salsa and instead let the marinated flavors of the meat shine. Really enjoyed the cabeza, tripa and chorizo tacos. The asada burrito was also outstanding. The slightly fatty well seasoned meat was packed with flavors, juicy and had good texture. Stopped by for a lil snack - got a beef chivichanga, friend got a chicken taco. Waited ~10 min for food, as we saw a lot of takeout orders being prepped. Snagged some seats at the wall. I've heard so many amazing things about Sonoratown! My fiance and I decided to stop here before a concert downtown. Some things I noticed were limited seating area, but we were able to snag a table after only waiting a few minutes. They bring your food outside to you, so you don't have to awkwardly stand inside and wait. I ordered the coconut horchata which I thought was solid! It was a little too sweet for my liking but I finished all of it. I ordered the asada burrito. I didn't find anything wrong with it persay, but it was just lackluster. It's all very mushy from the beans and guac and cheese, needs some texture or spice to spruce it up. I would come back to purchase my tortillas locally from here but I probably wouldn't seek out a meal here again. read more

The best way I can describe it is like Baja Fresh... but upgraded in every possible way. And the tortillas? Unreal. I could genuinely write songs about the Sonora tortillas. This place is bomb!! Went here on a recommendation from a friend and it did not disappoint. I was in town for the LA marathon, so I skipped the hot sauces, but I did try them and omg they were so good. Everything we had was delicious. My agua de Jamaica was a little too sweet for my preference but it was still great. The agua de horchata with coco was surprisingly not too sweet and reminded me of being on the beach. We arrived and there was a line but they were fast! Waited maybe 15 min in line, I'm not sure, it was quick. Employees were great and answered our questions about the menu. Seating available inside, not much but enough, also some outside and we choose to sit outside. I would definitely come back and order the regular burrito because it's huge and filling and the only thing I didn't eat this go round. Incredible meats, handmade flour tortillas, and sauces. My favorite meat option to order - whether it be for tacos or burrito - is the asada. It is marinated and seasoned to absolute perfection. We love it so much, our "hack" is to order the party trays for the two of us, and absolutely gorge for the next two days. Apparently this is a regional variant of taco style from Sonora, Mexico. YUMMM. This is officially my go-to spot for Mexican food. You get your meal fast, everything is delicious, and it's affordable. You must order the Lorenza. It's a crispy fried taco layered with melted cheese, topped with your choice of meat, and finished with a variety of sauces and toppings. I chose asada and tripa, and both were incredibly flavorful. One taco alone filled me up, and I left completely satisfied. I got this sweet-empanada-styled dessert (not sure what it's called) but it was homemade & filled with a fruit paste inside. I finally went out of my way to visit for a late weekday lunch, and the line was moving quickly. I knew I wanted the Burrito 2.0, but wasn't sure what to order. The staff member was very helpful and suggested the Costilla Burrito 2.0, which was one of the best burritos I've had in LA! I was going to try a taco, but I ordered a Lorenza instead, which she described as a tostada. The chorizo was good and different. She also suggested the Chivi Pollo, but I wasn't a fan. The Burrito 2.0 with grilled costilla, pinto beans, Monterey Jack cheese, and a fresh flour tortilla, served with green onions, radishes, and two excellent hot sauces, was amazing and I'll definitely order it again! This felt like a very authentic home made Mexican place! The server was helpful INT giving us her recommendations! The food was also ready in 5 minutes so this is a great place to come if you are trying to grab a quick meal. It's like Mexican fast food! We tried the chivichanga, which is just a smaller version of their burrito, with chicken and the beef head taco. Both were flavorful and delicious. The chivichnaga is not fried like a typical chimichanga, but it was still good and very cheesy. They also gave us the green and red salsa on the side. The red salsa is extremely spicy and the green one is mild. Both were delicious but you should only try the red salsa if you are okay with very spicy food. I loved their To go presentation, they put the food on a small plate and wrap it in foil. This is very unique and makes the meal easier to eat since you already have a plate handy. read more

This is one of my favorite places on LA. Right next to the fashion district it's a perfect place for lunch after shopping around. It's a tiny place but has some inside bar seating and tables and a bar outside. The service is friendly and efficient despite the constant lines out the door. The food is absolutely amazing. The salsa has a great flavor and a minor kick. The chiltepin is legit, not to be taken lightly. All of the food is great but the chicken quesadillas are my favorite. Well cooked and so flavorful. Preface: My experience was 3, but I don't feel comfortable giving it a 3 when it could definitely be a 4. (explained down below) Walking in, you get a very vibrant lively store that kind of brings life to the plaza. The service is fine, and service is pretty quick. I was very excited coming here to try their burrito, which is where I get a bit conflicted. The salsa are okay, green probably having the best flavor. As for the burrito itself, the tortilla had a very nice char; however, the burrito itself was a bit lack luster. There wasn't a lot of depth of flavors you would expect from a burrito. It was just meat beans and avocado, which I got, but it's just not my thing. That being said, I had to give it a four because the meat is REALLY well seasoned and has a great Smokey flavor. Burrito was not it for me, but I could totally see it being absolutely delicious in a taco or quesadilla where the ingredients are typically simpler. This place was pretty smackin! I got a burrito with chorizo and a taco with asada! I kind of wish I got it the other way around (asada in burrito and chorizo in taco) but it was yummy regardless! This place is a little tough for gluten free people since almost all their dishes use flour tortillas. The only thing I could order was the Lorenza - Corn tortilla, Monterey Jack cheese, salsa roja, avocado salsa, cabbage. You get a choice of meats, they said the chorizo would pair best so I tried that and asada. I couldn't tell much difference between the two since the sauces and salsa made it taste the same. One of the Salsa's was very spicy so if you have any heat issues make sure to ask for on the side or not at all. I also tried the chips and guac, which were OK, the chips were too oily for me and the guac lacked flavor, I'm guessing the avocados weren't ripe. Overall it's pretty good but for the price, probably not a place I would generally frequent. The cashier was nice, didn't really interact with any other staff. They were maybe too busy because they didn't really clean any of the tables. Most of the seating is designed for small parties and not very comfortable. So more of a togo place. Most of the seating is on the sidewalk and we got a random visitor from the neighborhood. (which is the case for most places in this area that are outside). Parking can be very difficult in the nicer part of the block but if you go ... east? and park on the shadey side, no problems finding something lol. read more

A little late on my review.... But better late than never! To start the food is amazing!!! The agua frescas are just as delish, not too sweet and super flavorful. About the staff, I went to this location a few weeks ago with my 11 month old who likes to grab everything!!!! As we were waiting outside for our food my son knocked over our freshly poured agua that splattered all over the place. One of the young ladies rushed out to clean up with a few rags not only for the mess but to make sure myself and my son were clean. I was going to buy a new drink and didn't mind but they gave me a new one free. Before I left they made sure I didn't need anymore rags to clean up my son.
