Sonoratown recently earned recognition in the Michelin Guide as a "recommended" or "selected" restaurant. Despite it's recognition, I honestly wasn't too impressed. Casual interior, service wasn't the friendliest -seemed bothered answering our questions and located in DTLA (so street parking only). The chimichanga shredded chicken burrito was fondly reminiscent of those 99 cent frozen, microwave burritos that I ate as a kid. Lorenza and Caramello (see my pic) were decent, but nothing that I crave to drive all the way here again. Maybe, if I as in the area with no other options... sure.

Went here the other night since it was like a block away. Have always heard about how great the burrito was, so that was the priority. Line was pretty long but moved fast enough. Got an asada burrito and asada tacos. The tacos were decent, meat was good but they weren't necessarily memorable. The burrito, let me start by saying that the tortilla was wonderful. Has such a great flavor, and the perfect texture, just a great tortilla. The burrito itself was good, but felt it had too many pinto beans, to the point they were overpowering the cheese, guacamole and asada. Still a good burrito, though I feel the tortilla has a lot to do with that.

Sonoratown does the best and is so consistent always. The red sauce is spicy and the tomatillo sauce is mild but is my favorite. One door leads into the line. Once you place your order there is plenty of seating to eat both inside or outside. The ambiance is great filled with authentic artwork, history and pictures of family and friends. I have been here on several visits and the food is always delicious. This is one of the best places in Los Angeles to eat.

Tried the coyotas and coconut horchata with dinner and both were great! Never had a coyotas before but it's kind of like a brown sugar poptart with a hint of spices. I imagine a freshly baked one is absolutely delicious. The chiltepin salsa gives such a nice kick to the burritos and chivi.

Gassss. Who knew tacos would be so good w flour tortillas. I like that they have cabbage on most items. The Caramelo is the best thing ever and I dream about it, I definitely want to try it with the poblano pepper. I honestly don't think I ever liked chimichangas so I don't want to comment on it, but my friends said it reminded them of a better version of the one from Costco. I called ahead and skipped the wait! Love this place and will probably dream about it.

Finally stopped by this place. Absolutely insane how good the food is here. It can get really crowded, though, and there's not a ton of seating. I came at a good time, but by the time I finished eating the line was out the door. I know the burritos are the popular thing, but that quesadilla is out of this world.

I'm always hearing that this has the best burritos in LA, so I knew I had to try it. Parking can be tough at times, especially being in DTLA, but that is often expected, so not much of a shock there lol. But walking up, I thought it was a pretty cute and quaint place with a lot of history and cultural aspects inside. I automatically knew I was getting the burrito 2.0 with beef and chips, and I hoped it would be everything and more. After finishing it, I felt like it was alright, a bit messy, but nothing too crazy, and I was pretty surprised based on the prior reviews that I'm constantly hearing. Also, though there are a bit of inside seats, having to eat outside can be annoying as you're basically in the street, but once again, it's DTLA lol.

Heard these guys got in the Michelin guide so I wanted to see for myself how good they are and I was impressed. It's definitely a level up from most taqueria. Instead of onions and cilantros like most spots, they give you a little bit of cabbage, salsa and instead let the marinated flavors of the meat shine. Really enjoyed the cabeza, tripa and chorizo tacos. The asada burrito was also outstanding. The slightly fatty well seasoned meat was packed with flavors, juicy and had good texture. Staff was friendly and the food was prepped quickly. Had a cerveza while I waited for my food. Recommend this spot if you want to experience tacos and burritos that's a cut above the rest.

    Chivichanga w beef, chicken taco

Stopped by for a lil snack - got a beef chivichanga, friend got a chicken taco. Waited ~10 min for food, as we saw a lot of takeout orders being prepped. Snagged some seats at the wall. I really liked the flour tortilla itself, soft and perfectly browned. Meat itself was kinda lacking flavor, so I found myself dousing it in both the salsa, and then my friend's salsa as well. My friend said the chicken taco was just *ok*.

I had been wanting to try this restaurant ever since they got added to the Michelin guide. Unfortunately it's not my style of Mexican food due to flavor. Their signature fried tripas tacos were too chewy for my liking and I was not a fan of the spices. Secondly the chile chiltepin is super spicy. The costilla tacos were good especially the handmade tortillas but as I said it was not my favorite. I know that although I would pass on this restaurant it's definitely others favorite as it's popular.

I've heard so many amazing things about Sonoratown! My fiance and I decided to stop here before a concert downtown. Some things I noticed were limited seating area, but we were able to snag a table after only waiting a few minutes. They bring your food outside to you, so you don't have to awkwardly stand inside and wait. I ordered the coconut horchata which I thought was solid! It was a little too sweet for my liking but I finished all of it. I ordered the asada burrito. I didn't find anything wrong with it persay, but it was just lackluster. It's all very mushy from the beans and guac and cheese, needs some texture or spice to spruce it up. I would come back to purchase my tortillas locally from here but I probably wouldn't seek out a meal here again.

If you're thinking about trying Sonora Town in DTLA, just know one thing going in: parking is an absolute nightmare. We've learned to always come in pairs: one person circles or waits in the car while the other runs in to grab the food. It's honestly the only way to keep your sanity. That said, the system works pretty smoothly otherwise. Ordering online is super easy, and our food is consistently ready within 20-30 minutes, which makes the whole pickup situation way more manageable. Now let's talk about the food because that's the real reason you put up with everything else. Prices are a bit on the higher side, but completely justified once you take a bite. The best way I can describe it is like Baja Fresh... but upgraded in every possible way. And the tortillas? Unreal. I could genuinely write songs about the Sonora tortillas. They have this slightly chewy, almost mochi-like texture that you don't usually get with tortillas, and it completely elevates every burrito and taco. It's one of those small details that makes a huge difference. Bottom line: come prepared for the parking struggle, order ahead, and enjoy some seriously next-level tacos and burritos.

This place is bomb!! Went here on a recommendation from a friend and it did not disappoint. I was in town for the LA marathon, so I skipped the hot sauces, but I did try them and omg they were so good. Everything we had was delicious. My agua de Jamaica was a little too sweet for my preference but it was still great. The agua de horchata with coco was surprisingly not too sweet and reminded me of being on the beach. We arrived and there was a line but they were fast! Waited maybe 15 min in line, I'm not sure, it was quick. Employees were great and answered our questions about the menu. Seating available inside, not much but enough, also some outside and we choose to sit outside. I would definitely come back and order the regular burrito because it's huge and filling and the only thing I didn't eat this go round. Street parking available and plenty of people coming in to pick up to go orders.

The whipped beans are the star! We had the guacamole which was tasty, great tostadas with it. The arepas were good but the pork belly was a little too fatty (I know pork belly is always fatty) to the point the fat muted the flavored for the arepa a bit, but still delicious. The empanadas were great and as someone who lived in South America and ate empanadas every day, these really took me back to my Paraguay days. The squash blossoms were light and perfectly fried. One dish that doesn't work for me is the lamb chops, which is a shame since it's my favorite protein. I've ordered them multiple times with clear instructions on temperature and have found them overcooked and tough. The beef tostada was just ok. I browsed the menu and had a really hard time deciding, but ended up on the cauliflower rajas taco, the crispy shrimp taco & the vegan Korean BBQ taco. The waiter recommended the crispy shrimp taco, but I actually enjoyed the vegetarian tacos more. I love cauliflower and poblano so that taco was a great starter. So much flavor and a variety of textures. The tortillas were super flavorful too. The potato taquitos came next and I am actually obsessed. The outside was perfectly crispy, the interior was soft, flavorful & cheesy. The sauce complimented it perfectly. I can not recommend them enough. The building is an original piece of the City's history, boasting a menu that features their famous burritos that vary in size from a regular to a huge party size beast that can feed several. I tried the Hollenbeck and the Okie burritos on two separate occasions via pick up, as aforementioned, the service was quick, convenient and the pick up window is seamless, parking is located next to the structure and I haven't had problems getting there. Hollenbeck was good but I definitely enjoyed the Okie burrito more, I ordered the "original" size once and didn't seem to learn my lesson the second time, these burritos can feed two in Original size. They offer a "Mini" version which would be satisfactory for one person. My favorite thing about these burritos is how "home-made" they are, the salsas and meats are fresh and taste like they came out of an abuelitas kitchen. I still need to try the crunchy tacos and nachos which look great, I recommend trying this classic establishment at least once if you're in the area.

There is a private lot but fills up, and there's also adjacent street parking. I love sitting at the bar and seeing the plate being prepared. Also love the open freezers so you can see the fresh seafood hanging. Another standout was the homemade hot sauces! Each had a distinct flavor from sweet, smokey, and hot so it was really fun to try. The ceviches and the raw cold dishes were my favorite, especially the scallop aguachile! SO GOOD. Would order that 100 times.

Order the Kanpachi taco: a shatter-crisp blue corn tortilla, molten fried cheese, silky buttery kanpachi, and a slick of smoky chili oil drizzled over top. The kind of taco you'll think about long after you've experienced it. You can't go wrong with the ceviches, cocteles, or aguachiles. The ceviche is bright with lime and the cocteles are lush and briny with a tomatoey kick, and the aguachiles hit with sharp citrus, fresh herbs, and it's a really decent amount of fish. If you're looking for a more traditional hot entree get the Filete al Cabrón: grilled sea bass with cilantro-lime rice, beans, and warm flour tortillas. Simple and so comforting. Fresh seafood can be hard to find in L.A., but Holbox does it like no other. Takes me back to Mexico City every time!
