Firstly, I want to say the food was just as good as the first time we visited. Unfortunately, my second experience here...bringing my mom for Mother's Day ...was extremely disappointing because of the service. We initially had one server who brought us water and took our appetizer order, but then disappeared for quite some time without checking back in. At that point, I even went looking for a manager or hostess and couldn't find anyone available. Eventually, we were given a new server, but she came across as extremely rude and inattentive. What upset me most was the overall lack of communication and attentiveness throughout the experience. It made what was supposed to be a special Mother's Day outing feel frustrating and disappointing. We had a really nice experience overall. The atmosphere was beautiful, the hostess was welcoming, and the food was really good. My son is a big fan of this place and absolutely loved it, which is why he recommended we come. It was my first time there, as well as my adult daughter's first time. The only downside had nothing to do with the restaurant itself, but unfortunately with some of the patrons seated next to us. My adult daughter felt very uncomfortable because she noticed them repeatedly looking over at us and whispering. I wish she had told me in the moment--I would have gladly asked to move--but she didn't want to cause any issues, especially since it seemed like they knew the waiter. I also think it's important to say that people who visit places should be mindful of how their behavior comes across. Others can absolutely pick up on judgment and gossip, and it can affect someone's experience more than people realize. It was disappointing because I genuinely liked the environment and would have otherwise had a perfect experience. I'd still recommend the restaurant, but I do wish that part of the evening had felt more comfortable. read more

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in LA. It's always a five star experience here, in terms of food, ambiance and service. We sometimes find parking quickly, but it's more often that we take awhile to find a spot close by. I've tried a lot of the things on the menu, and while everything is superb, the one thing I don't love is the fish, because of the way it's cooked. What a beautiful and romantic place to dine in! Loved everything about this restaurant!! From the beautiful bar/lounge when you enter to the giant tree in the middle of the restaurant, everything screams a perfect date night. Had a great experience at this cute spot. I came here to celebrate my mom's birthday and made a reservation. Our waitress suggested ordering a bunch of items to share, which worked out really well for the table. We tried a mix of tacos, salsas, and drinks. The tacos were well seasoned and the whole concept is fun. The colada though was more like a coconut raspado, heavier on the ice than the drink. It felt like I was getting a side of drink with my ice. The ambiance is nice, just not super traditional. It leans more Mexican American than fully Mexican, which may or may not matter depending on what you're looking for. Street parking is a bit of a headache, so valet is the move. I paid $15. 5 star experience for sure. Mexican Cuisine with a beautiful, classy ambiance. Perfected. Their seafood selection is wonderful! Firstly, the Crudo De Temporada CHANGED MY LIFE. Holyyyyy freak it is so delicious. Genuinely, after every bite i closed my eyes & savored every second. It was so insanely good. From what I know, it seems or at least feels like Mirate is equally adored for their contemporary (elevated) Mexican food and their bar program. My recent visit was only to get a drink or two before heading to another spot. I saw/ heard that they had an eggnog (rompope) cocktail temporarily on the menu for the holidays and I felt like I would regret it if I didn't at least stop by to try it since I'm a fan of eggnog. First of all, their space is gorgeous. From the outside, it doesn't even give you a hint how huge this place feels. Definitely a cool spot to take people to impress. I came in and was able to sit at the bar right away, cause it was a little on the early side for dinner. The bartenders here are so friendly and the genuinely feel like they love what they're doing and know what they're talking about. I of course ordered the rompope as soon as I could. As I was finishing up my drink, they let me try some of the fermented prickly pear or colonche as well. Both drinks were absolutely delicious. Such a pretty place!! This on the 50 best bars list and I can see why. It's upstairs and then has lower area level seating as well with a beautiful tree in the middle and Mexico City kind of vibes. We went for a girls brunch it was the perfect aesthetic. Emma, our waitress, helped us decide what to order for drinks and food, thank you Emma! Everything was amazing. All of our drinks were made so well, all tasted smooth with great flavors. We tried the el guero, la sonadora, and la toxico - none of them disappointed. Came to Mírate this evening in search of some delicious and authentic Mexican cuisine. Was overall happy with our visit but think the value wasn't fully there. I'll start by saying that the space itself has been beautifully curated. You head up a large flight of stairs and feel transported into a lovely internal space with both an upstairs for reservation seating and a "communal" area down another staircase. Communal space is unique and I guess helpful for cases where you don't have a revelation. It's where we sat. The service was good, and staff was kind. I think the communal area makes taking care of folks a little bit more challenging but they were attentive. The food itself was tasty and rich in flavor. Our appetizers were good and we had the salsa platter, toron, and the smashed avocado. Toron was my favorite. Had a couple tacos and the carne asada as well. Everything was tasty but generally felt over priced. $12 dollars for a single taco seems pretty high and the drinks at $20 were good I didn't think should command that price. My drink came in a can when I was expecting a cocktail which wasn't ideal. Lastly the potatoes that came with the carne asada just felt a little confusing as a side. Overall food is good, vibe is great, but make a reservation and plan to spend a good amount to get any reasonable amount of food. read more

Came here for a girls' night and overall had a really nice time. The entrance is cute with small stairs leading up to the restaurant, tucked next to a bar. Inside is very dark, moody, and romantic, definitely great for date night. Drinks: My friend got the Mi Sancho, which she said was strong. Another friend had the Coconut Margarita, which she loved, and I got the El Güero, which had just the right amount of spice. All of them were really good. A little pricey, but worth it. Food: Ceviche Mixto(9/10): Fresh fish and great flavor. Just wish there was more fish and less yuca. Caesar Salad (8/10): Refreshing twist on the classic, anchovies were a surprise but a good one, dressing was a touch heavy Mussels & Chorizo (6/10): Least favorite. Mussels were chewy, sauce was good but the tomatillo milpero was a bit overpowering. Carne Asada (8/10): Tender but a little fatty. Potato gratin was creamy and good. Heritage Pork Chop (8/10): Juicy and full of flavor. Loved the green apple slaw, didn't care much for the salsa macha. Pastel de Chocolate (9/10): Rich and very moist. The chayote inside was unexpected. My friends didn't love it, but I didn't mind. Overall, our server was friendly, helpful, and service was fast. My girlfriends and I came here for dinner on Saturday night. We go reservations online. When checking in, they ask that you wait downstairs. Once inside, you realize the restaurant is pretty spacious inside! The restaurant itself is so beautiful and a great vibe for a GNO or a date night! We got seated and all the servers were so kind and helpful. Between the three of us, we got: - queso fundido: this came w a side of tortilla. The queso was tasty. We substituted out the chorizo for mushrooms and enjoyed this a lot! - ceviche: this came w a side of tostada shells. Also very good and good portion size to share. - tuna tostada: probably the one skippable thing we got, but by no means bad. - carrots: this came with a sweet creamy sauce and another side of tortillas. Very enjoyable with or without tortillas. - 3 mushroom tacos (one for each of us): highly recommend! Sharing these dishes between the 3 of us was more than enough food. We actually didn't finish the portions... though the sides made looked small, they were quite filling bc of all the tortilla and tostada shells we were given. lol! We each got an alcoholic beverage. When you are making an online reservation, double check it. For some reason, I booked for 4 people and the reservation only counted for 2 people! The hostess would not make an exception (rude), but we were able to compromise and eat at the bar area downstairs. It was a Saturday night and our reservation was for right when they opened. This place has an interesting layout. You walk up stairs to the hostess. There is restaurant seating upstairs. I thought that was it for dining, but no. We were seated downstairs in the bar area and next to it was more dining. The downstairs area was beautiful and looked like we walked into another world. We sat in a communal table between another group and another couple. It turned out to be fun because we were getting recommendations from the group next to us and even tried a mescal flight (not my thing). The shared items were really good, especially the main items like the branzino and the carne asada. The experience downstairs made a difference than the hostess experience (-1 star for the hostess). I gave a gift certificate to our friends who just moved to the area but strongly recommended to have a reservation before they go. read more

Great ambience and vibes at this spot. It's a quintessential bougie LA Mexican spot, which is definitely reflected in the prices! Cocktails range from $18-22, but are very good. Service is solid - they're quick to take your finished plates and make sure you have water, but they were delayed in seating our party despite our reservation. They also accidentally charged us for a drink no one ordered - always check your bill! Onto the food: tacos are big and good here, though you're ordering a la carte. Super vibey, loved the boho chic aesthetics, the dim lighting & the open patio/ huge tree in the middle of the restaurant! Super popular spot cause it was quite busy! We showed up as walk in's so decided to fin bar seating which was no wait at all! I enjoyed my drink of choice very much! I got the el guero! Would definitely order it again. We had such an great experience last time that another night was needed. This time it was ok. Right when you walk upstairs, there was someone who I thought was the hostess. She told us to go right insides to downstairs where the hostess would be. The top half bar and restaurant was closed off for a private event as I found out. Checked in with the hostess whom was very sweet and friendly. I asked how long for a table for four and was told that the restaurant was basically bought out. If we wanted to have a meal, it would basically be first come first serve at the bar area. Wow, someone must be having a fun night having taken over the restaurant part. I wanted to check with the group before committing and trying to find a section at the bar. We ended up going for it. There was a corner that had four seat but we found out that that area was only drinks. No food would be served there except the hi top tables. Basically when something open, you grab it. We ended up getting lucky as a group was leaving and took the table. Water did come out pretty fast but the service was a little slow trying to order drinks and food. It was quite cold as we were near the walkway which had a breeze the whole time. Anyways, waiter finally came to take our order. Last visit was for brunch, so obviously the menus are different. Dinner menu has a good selection on started for sharing. Tacos, cold dishes and some mains. Drinks had a massive selection on cocktails. Full bar so I'm sure whatever you want they can create. Keeping it simple, a couple of margarita. We also had one with a shot that was an additional fee. When that was brought out, it had the shot with some ground cherries and dried/fried crickets. I've had them before in Mexico City so I knew the taste. Our spicy margarita with mezcal was quite nice. Price wise (18.00) was decent. Priced pretty much similar to other places. Food wise, had two orders of the smashed avocado (guacamole 18.00). That came with whole tortillas chips. Had two orders as the option wasn't that big. Mains, there were mixtures of tacos which are a la carte. The waiter mentioned if we wanted a meal out of it, 3 orders should be good. If you're sharing a couple of dishes, 1 or 2 will be good. Also had an order of the lamb albondigas. -Taco Campechano (11.00), brisket, chorizo, queso, fries, salsa verde cruda on corn tortillas. Flavors were quite nice and the touch with fries was unusual but it worked. -Taco De Cochito (11.00), roasted pork, honey fig truffle, salsa verde cruda, chicharron crumbs on corn tortillas. It was tasty. -Taco El Gobernador (11.00), shrimp, poblano peppers, quesillo and chihuahus cheese, pickled onions on a corn tortillas. This was one of the favorite. -Taco De Hongas (11.00), maitake mushrooms, avocado mousse, nopales on corn tortillas. -Lamb Albondigas (22.00), pulque, salsa borracha, delicate squash, halloumi and mint. This dish was quite tasty and flavorful. Meatballs in a flavorful sauce. It's a share plate. Overall, the food was good. Tacos are a la carte and not that big. Share plate was decent size. Drinks were good. If you're there for sharing, a good amount of dish is needed as portions are quite small. We got lucky with a bar table which was nice. Came to Mirate for a birthday brunch after a friend invited me, and overall had a very nice time. We had a noon reservation but probably didn't need one since it was pretty empty and we were seated right away. The ambiance is beautiful, very nature inspired, with interior design like stepping into Mexico City. Service was okay, everyone was nice but nothing above and beyond. When my friend mentioned it was my birthday, our waiter congratulated me but didn't offer a complimentary dessert like I'd seen in other reviews, so that was disappointing. I ordered El Cal Burrito ($21), which was filling and came with a delicious salsa molcajete. My friend got the taco ($11), but heads up the order is literally one taco. Parking is tough, mostly metered parking on Vermont for two hours. The restaurant offers valet, and there's also $8 self parking behind the Thirteenth Church of Christ. Definitely had higher expectations for this spot especially for the prices but the food and ambiance is solid. I'd be open to come back for dinner. read more

Came to Mirate in Los Feliz for our anniversary dinner and it couldn't have been a more memorable experience. The ambiance is stunning--there's a large tree in the center of the dining room and the subtle burnt sage aroma creates a calming, almost transportive atmosphere. We assumed they would have a brunch menu, but that we would also be able to order off their regular menu, which we were not allowed to. The only issue with this was their brunch menu only had steak, pork, and mushroom tacos on the menu and I'm a pescatarian. We were craving fish tacos but I ended up getting a mushroom taco, and it was underwhelming. The chilaquiles was delicious, however, as I continued to eat, I saw there was some type of meat in it. I asked our waitress and she said it's pork. I looked at the menu again, and asked her where it says that it contains pork, and she mentioned the "cochinita pibil" is pork. I was confused because every other item on the menu has the meat listed out in English, whereas the chilaquiles doesn't have any English word asterisked advising that the dish contains pork. So had to send it back. My boyfriend loved his taco campechano and mentioned the burrito was ok but had too many ingredients (could've done without the roasted poblano). The decor is nice, but our food experience wasn't that great. Other than that, we may return to try out the dinner menu. read more

Mirate, had been here before, long ago, around the time they initially opened. Why did it take so long to go back? No excuses except failure. I remembered the food being great, as this was for dinner. This time, however, we decided to go check out their brunch, because one must brunch on the weekend. Made a reservation and headed over. Mirate, if you have never been, feels like walking into an old Mayan civilization, maybe in Tulum or Playa del Carmen. Just has that great, cultural vibe about it, and the decor absolutely helps you feel like you've been transported to Mexico, back in time. Obviously, we started the brunch with drinks, getting the Mi Sancho and La Sonadora. Mi Sancho is their version of a pina colada, nice and flavorful, not overly icy. La Sonadora, on the other hand, is very refined, not overly sweet or boozy, pairing ingredient like rum, passion fruit, green tea and absinthe with clarified goat's milk. Just comes out being this well balanced, nuanced drink with different elements that come through on your palate. Now, the food. We decided we had to try the Pan Francais, which is a version of french toast. Just a thick slice, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, but the key lime cream was absolutely delicious paired with the bay leaf horchata and fresh fruit. Just a great bite. We also tried the carne asada con huevos, which is their steak and eggs. Steak was cooked absolutely perfectly, just melted in your mouth with each bite. The chilaquiles were also very good, eggs cooked perfectly on top with the salsa roja and queso fresco. Hard to go wrong with chilaquiles. Overall, great vibe, great food, phenomenal drinks (Mirate was named the 12th best bar in North America in 2025} and a great overall experience. I very much enjoyed the creative drinks and the overall bar/lounge ambiance. -If you like coconut like myself, I'd recommend the coconut margarita because it has several layers of coconut flavors. The coconut cream was my favorite and overall it wasn't too strong. -The El Guero with aguachile was very interesting and refreshing with its tangy profile overlaid with spices. -The El Taquero had a nice mix of fruity, pineapple flavors with some savory notes. -The El Tocayo was a little too strong for me because of its triple tequila involvement. My friends enjoyed it especially the crispy cricket part! This might be a hot take but for Mexican-influenced bars, I think I like Mirate more than Superbueno in New York? I came here with friends to celebrate a birthday and an anniversary. I've been to this location in a previous incarnation. I'm glad the charming courtyard is still there with the majestic tree in the center. It's lovely, especially at night with all the lights. The décor is impressive, and the ambience is fantastic. You can tell a lot of thought was put into all the little details. We were seated in a private section in the courtyard. The table was very large - a bit big for four people. Our darling server Alex brought out complimentary glasses of sparkling wine in honor of the celebrations. It was a lovely bubbly from Mexico. (All the spirits served here are from Mexico.) The cocktail and food menu are both creative & complex thanks to the talents of Mixologist Max Reis & Chef Alan Sanz. They also have an extensive and impressive list of Tequila & Mezcal. My friend ordered the El Guero - a unique twist on a margarita made with aquachile, nopales granita, coconut, & avocado washed Don Fulano Fuerte. I tried a sip, and it was tasty with a touch of sweetness. I went for a traditional Tommy's Margarita, which was exceptionally good. Our food order consisted of: Salsas De La Casa, Smashed Avocado, Dorados De Papa Y Aquachile De Camaron, Fried Chicken Taco, & Taco El Gobernador. Alfredo delivered our entrees and took care of us the rest of the evening. (He was sweet.) All the dishes were visually appealing and nicely presented. The food was flavorful, and I especially enjoyed the Taco El Gobernador. For dessert we shared the Pastel De Chocolate (Jamaica poached chayote, spiced chocolate ganache, café de olla crème anglaise.) It was another creative dish that tantalized the taste buds. *I wanted to give this place 5 stars but while we were finishing desert a manager came by and asked us to hurry because they needed the table for another party. (We had not been there longer than 90 mins) Also, we arrived 5 minutes before our reservation time and was told we had to wait until 5 pm to be seated. Mirate is such a gem, easily one of the most beautiful and memorable Mexican dining experiences I've had in LA. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere transports you. With its lush greenery and warm design, it almost feels like stepping into a jungle, chic, vibrant, and full of energy. It's definitely the kind of place where making a reservation in advance is a must. Now, the food is absolutely incredible. The fried chicken taco was hands down the best I've ever had: crispy, flavorful, and unforgettable. We also ordered the salsa platter with guacamole, which was fresh, bold, and the perfect starter to share. Another dish we tried (with chicken, beans, and rice, the name is slipping my mind!) was hearty, comforting, and full of rich flavors. Every bite was satisfying. On the drinks side, the cocktails were excellent. I'm not usually a tequila person, so I went for a gin-based cocktail (wish I remembered the name!) and it was perfectly balanced. My friends, on the other hand, are big mezcal and tequila fans, and they loved their drinks. The bar program here really shines. Yes, it's on the pricier side, but in my opinion, it's worth every penny for the quality of the food, the ambiance, and the overall experience. I visited Mirate some time back, and it left such an impression on me that I'd love to return soon whether for another taco night or to explore more of their menu. TL;DR Not worth it for large groups. Made reservations for a group of 7 at Mirate for a Sunday morning birthday brunch. The establishment provided a great first impression. The large space is filled with natural lighting, beautiful greenery, and trendy decor. Unfortunately, large groups don't get to enjoy the vibe because they're tucked away in dark corner with little to no decor and poor acoustics. The food was good, but not amazing. I had the Benedicta, which had good flavor to it but was missing the spiciness that's traditional of cochinita pibil. To drink, I had an iced cafe de olla. I would recommend trying the hot cafe de olla instead or something else altogether. We also order 3 desserts for the table: Pan Francais, Pan de Elote, and the Tamarind Cheese Cake. The traditional Mexican style cheesecake was executed well, with great texture and a complimentary sorbet. The other two desserts were okay; however, the Pan Francais was heavy on the key lime throughout. Customer service was great online and via phone, but was lacking in person. Our initial server was friendly but was scheduled for a break before we placed our orders and didn't return. Our second server was friendly as well, but was largely MIA after we placed our orders and being tucked away made it difficult to catch any server's attention during our meal. In terms of fees, they charge the usual 20% gratuity for large groups, 4% fee for staff benefits (it's optional - but not really), and a $3 per person fee for bringing in your own birthday cake/dessert. For these rates, I'd expect a better experience and would prefer for the establishment to account for paying livable wages in their prices instead of adding an "optional" fee. Lastly, Mírate does not offer parking in an already congested area. With the large capacity of the venue, I'd expect thoughtfulness around not exasperating the issue in the community. The saving grace of this experience was the bartender who was attentive in welcoming our group and made delicious cocktails. "La Tóxica" is the best carajillo I've tried thus far. So good, I may return to try Mírate for date night - maybe it'll be a better experience for two. read more

Many restaurants look better online than they do in real life...im sure we've all been catfished by lighting, filters, good camera angles, and dates. Mirate flips that script completely. This place is even more stunning in person. Great atmosphere. I've been to Mirate a few times now: brunch, drinks with friends, a few lazy afternoons at the bar. Brunch was delicious, but honestly, the cocktails are where this place really shows off. It's rated one of the top bars in the world for good reason :) Every drink felt like it was crafted by someone who actually cares what it tastes like, not just what it looks like on your feed. I haven't tried dinner yet, but judging by everything else, I'm betting it's going to be impressive. Parking tip: if I remember correctly valet is available on Vermont (north of Prospect) for around $15 cash or $17 card. During brunch hours, valet isn't always running, so plan for street parking or nearby paid lots but this is a good place to catch a ride share to, so you can freely sample their amazing cocktail menu read more

Came here for dinner on Friday after hearing so many great things about this place. This place gets busy so make sure to make a reservation, and come early. Service was friendly and attentive, and the restaurant itself is SUCH a vibe. It reminds me of Bacari in Silver Lake, but with an even more elevated vibe. There's two floors of seating, I would recommend sitting on the top floor to have a bit more privacy. On the food front, everything was pretty good. I think the fried chicken taco and kampachi were my favorite dishes, and I'd strongly advise against the Carne Asada (it's overpriced and the flavor profile isn't for everyone, I thought it was fine). I think they've got really great drinks, so I'd recommend trying anything from their menu (their NA beverages were excellent too). Overall, I'd recommend trying this place for apps and drinks, everything else had issues that kind of took away from the experience. I would probably give this place a 3.5/5, but am rounding up because the vibes and service were excellent. read more

This is a beautiful restaurant with a lovely aesthetic! A friend brought me here to treat me to a casual birthday brunch. We had a reservation for noon on a Sunday, and Mirate gave me a little birthday card in an envelope to acknowledge the occasion, which I thought was cute. I ordered the breakfast burrito, and it was ok flavor-wise. It was a good sized burrito, and pretty filling. They also gave me a complementary sorbet scoop for my birthday.
