10/10!!! It's rare to have a spot where you get lost in the experience. Been here twice now. Once with foodie bestie girlfriends (table) and now with my husband (bar) and both were amazing experiences. Todd was our server this time around and embodied class, style, and smoothness. We had the best date night. Highly rec the the mole Negroni, yuzu marg, snap peas, loaded potato, and rib eye. Wine was excellent. My husband said Todd was "an absolute stud". Can't recommend enough. Can't wait to return with more friends.

Wow what a mind blowing experience here. Hermons definitely lives up to ALL the hype and no wonder why it's sooooo hard to find a reservation on Resy. The ambience is incredible and the service was also amazing. They really know what they're doing. The bar in the middle is beautiful and so welcoming for walkins. Food highlights for appetizers are tuna crudo, potatoes pave - make sure to get the trout crudo on it (kinda taste like lox and bagels but better), and the beef tartar which has a spicy kick to it! The potatoes are likely the best potatoes I've ever had in my life!! For main, we LOVED the branzino!!!! Wow the tomatoes on top were so sweet and delicious. They paired this dish sooooo well with the sauce and dill on top. definitely a MUST TRY!!!! I thought they steak frites was good but I've had better- maybe the sauce was a little light on it. Yuzu margarita was also so delishhhhh!!!!! I'm already looking for a resy to book to go back :)

Baked alaska

Got a res at Hermon's on a Friday night and felt like I'd won the lottery! They are hard to snag - you either have to get lucky refreshing for a random day, or be strategic for when the reservations open up. We arrived at 5:45 and were seated promptly for our reservation. We ordered a dirty martini and yuzu marg (happy hour!) and the happy hour burger, as well as the tuna crudo, loaded potato fritter, snap peas, and two sheet vongole. We originally wanted fries and garlic bread, but our waitress suggested we swap to the potato fritter for their more quintessential dish. Drinks and crudo came out first and quickly. The crudo was fresh and light - loved it. The drinks were strong but well-mixed. Very good! Next came the snap peas which had great flavor with the muhammara. Then we got the potato fritter. This was decadent but also very satiating. While it was yummy, it was also quite heavy, and could've done with a smidge more balance. The burger and two sheet vongole came last as our entrees. The burger was juicy and delicious. Vongole was also tasty for a few bites but the flavor profile felt similar to the potato fritter, with cream and cheese. It felt heavy quickly. We had to try dessert and opted for the lemon baked Alaska for something unique. This was tasty and the meringue was perfect. Service was excellent and the vibes were great. Next time we would order the garlic bread, steak frites, and cookie skillet and call it a day.

My true rating is really a 3.5 as i had mixed feelings about my first go around. Glad to have made it down to Hermon's as reservations are not easy to come by. We actually just walked in right before they opened and was lucky enough to get a table. Garlic Bread - Probably my favorite part of dinner as usual. When you get the middle of the cuts where the garlic is, you too will fall in love. The bread had an amazing crisp on the outside and soft fluffy texture in the inside! Yellowfin Tuna Crudo - I am not sure what it was about the tuna, but I was not to impressed. A little too chewy for my liking. Branzino Collars - Loved the mix of Buffalo sauce and the branzino. Something I would not have thought of myself but it works especially when you're dipping it with blue cheese! BE WARNED - IT IS VERY BONEY SO EAT WITH CAUTION. Steak Frites - Maybe I am spoiled by my time in France but I was not as impressed with the steak. The steak was a bit rough for my liking and the sauce seemed to be missing something that I could not put my finger on. Skillet Cookie - Small cookie and ice cream - a bit pricey for what it is but always yummy and can't go wrong. Will be making a second trip here to give it another go as the vibes were there! Though maybe it was just me but I felt like our waiter was not happy to serve us that day but i know we all have bad days and that is okay! Parking - limited residential street parking but they do have valet in their parking lot.

Entry

First of all, the service was PERFECT and the ambiance I would go back for. The martini was also delicious, and should be the standard on how to make a good dry dirty martini. This review is only about the food. The garlic bread was lackluster, there was not enough garlic butter but yet it was incredibly oily and salty. But while being incredibly oily, it was still dry? Very confusing. The burger had a sharp horseradish flavor (derogatory), and didn't taste of much else. The fries were spongey and ok. The citrus salad components made absolutely no sense, the croutons were dry and contributed nothing. There wasn't enough cheese to balance it properly. I felt like I was just eating a grapefruit. Overall, the restaurant needs to be a little bit more courageous with the flavors and the menu- It is definitely WAY overhyped. Go for a drink at the bar and for some celebrity watching, but skip the rest?

Chopped chicories salad

I've been wanting to come here for awhile now and finally snagged a reservation here! We arrived just before 6pm and our server kindly squeezed in a couple happy hour drinks and their famous cheeseburger before the cutoff, which was such a nice touch. What we ordered: Garlic bread (9/10): buttery, garlicky heaven. Just order it. Chopped chicories salad (8/10): sweet and garlicky. Good, but a bit much after a few bites. Ode to Chez cheeseburger (8/10): cooked medium rare by default. Solid.. though my partner loved it more than I did. Two sheet vongole (10/10): The standout entree. Loved everything about this unique dish. Lemon baked Alaska (100/10): I may have just found my new favorite dessert. Everything felt intentional from the decor to the way the food is prepared. Also the ambiance strikes that perfect balance of cool and cozy. Definitely a strong date night spot that we will continue to visit!

Hokkaido Scallop Crudo

Had a co-worker put me on to this restaurant, which I wasn't even aware of, so decided to head over after a movie the other night. No reservations were available, tried waking in but there was an hour wait, so for on the wait-list anyways and was she to get a take in about 25 minutes. Not bad. Started off with cocktails because that's just what we do. The Mai Tai was your traditional Mai Tai with the runs, Curacao and orgeat. Good flavor and loved the presentation. The blood orange daiquiri was different but also has good flavor. Seems the Daiquiri changes based on fruit in season, which is fun. For food, we started with the scallop crudo. Scallops were perfect, the tangerine didn't give an overbearing citrus flavor while the red onion have some texture. But the dish also didn't necessarily stand out as being memorable, but was still good and fresh. For entrees we went with the vongole and the burger. The vongole was very interesting, didn't think I've had anything like it before. Almost like if a lasagna and a pizza had a baby. So much going on and so much forgot with the clams, guanciale, parm, crab and breadcrumbs for texture. Just a really yummy entree. The burger was also very good and definitely passes the eyeball test when it is sitting right in front of you. The meat is covered in a soubise fondue which adds so much forgot and richness to each bite. A very good burger. Overall, great newer restaurant to the Los Angeles food scene. Drinks were quiet, as was the good, and service was great as well. Definitely a nice place to take a date or meet with friends for a couple drinks. So grab a reservation, sit down and enjoy!

Steak and frites

If I only had the burger, I would give this place five stars. I don't even like onions on my burger, but they just fit so perfectly and they're grilled enough where you don't feel the texture of them if you're kind of a raw onion hater like me. They just add to this perfect tasting burger. The steak and frites were fantastic. We got way more shrimp than we bargained for with the coconut fried tiger prawns and then those potatoes! They call them potato fritters but it's really potato pavé. Good lord! We end with the Alaskan meringue with its cold center was superb. My friend ordered the tiny tini and she said it's her perfect cocktail. It's just her size; she doesn't like a full drink and that one was perfect. Can't wait to go back and try something else and maybe just have another one of those burgers. I also want to sit up at that bar because it's absolutely gorgeous. I've never seen a restaurant where the expediting area was inside the bar area. Interesting.

Averie H.

The hype is finally real! Usually a new restaurant opens and everyone talks about how great it is and then it inevitably falls short.....AND THAT IS NOT HERMON'S. What a meal! Everything was amazing, but the Two Sheet Vongole is truly special. It's fun to eat, it's everything you love and a clam pasta without having to pick the clams out of shells, the flavors are bright and savory. The Baked Alaska is fantastic with so much meringue it's like what you thought eating a cloud would be like when you were a kid. The Loaded Potato Fritters will make you smile so much. And the drinks were bangarang. Service is A+++. Everyone is so nice, so happy, so thrilled to be there. The staff is just really kind and clearly love being a part of this team and it makes the place feel really special. Ambiance - fantastic. The lighting was warm, the music was low, the booths were packed with smiling people. I dunno ya'll - feels like a GEM.

My husband and I had an absolutely spectacular meal here. Had to make the reservation a couple weeks ahead of time, but it was well worth it. The restaurant itself is beautiful, dimly lit, and cozy. The service was very attentive and friendly. We started off with a Garibaldi cocktail and a Chef's 50/50 martini. Both drinks were fantastic, and the blue cheese olives in the martini were amazing. For food, we ordered the chicory salad and fries to start. The salad was so simple but incredible - we wanted to save some to take home but we couldn't stop eating it!! It was basically a riff on a Caesar salad but with chicories instead, and was piled high with shaved parm. The fries were also perfect, served with ketchup and an addictive horseradish mayo. I think they might have been lightly battered because they were extra tasty and crunchy like curly fries. For mains, we had the two sheet vongole pasta and the mushroom bourguignon. The vongole was a fun concept - a thin pasta sheet with a creamy and lemony clam sauce. I just wished there were a bit more sauce on it. The mushroom bourguignon was a hearty dish - tender mushrooms over a rich and buttery polenta. We really enjoyed it. We were too full for dessert at this point so we didn't get anything, but I'd like to try the Baked Alaska next time! We just shared a yuzu margarita as a nightcap before heading out. It was good, but the yuzu flavor was not prominent enough - would skip that next time. For us, while everything was great, the highlights of the evening were the 50/50 martini, chicory salad, and fries. Overall, the meal was really memorable, and we're looking forward to the next time we can return!

Branzino

Amazing experience full stop. Service was so friendly and warm, and the host was really lovely as well. As for the food, it definitely lived up to the hype- salad, garlic bread, potato (with roe!!) and branzino were all excellent and the baked Alaska was a wonderful end to the meal. Hard to get a reservation but it seemed doable for the walk ins if you come first thing. Just go!

Dominic A.

Really cool space. Came on a chill Wednesday evening. Sat in a small booth but would love to sit at the bar next time. Had several items Focaccia Potato Branzino Collars Snap peas Vongole All were delicious. Focaccia was soft but nice texture and really flavorful. Vongole was probably my fav. Nice small menu doesnt feel overwhelming but you want to try more when you leave. Server was really nice and attentive.

Steak tartare
Joey W.

This place does it right! Great wine selection for the those who know the difference between the old world and the new. The crudo is delicious but if I had to pick one of the raw fish apps, I'd take the tuna carpaccio in a heart beat. The steak tartare was delicious. Service with bbq chips so you definitely get the Smokey bbq flavor. I'd definitely order that again. The steak frites is delicious. Fries cooked in tallow which always hits. The two sheets dish was surprisingly delicious. You can't miss out on that. The burger was "fantastic" per a burger connoisseur/chef. And the cookie was great. I wish I would have tried the garlic bread and maybe the loaded potato. Looked delicious. Most restaurants are great but a server can really elevate your experience and that's what we got. We had the pleasure of being attended by Bennett and he was great to us. Put it this way, if the food was trash we would still come back for him. Great service. If you have time , definitely stop in. You won't be disappointed.

The cocktails are tasty. Loved the Meet Me in Pearis cocktail. They also have a good, but limited, happy hour (5-8 Wed & Thurs, Sun all day) only served at the bar. The kimchi cheese fries are a great shareable or a good side for a low-key fatty like me. Only complaint is portions are a bit small. Service was good. Friendly staff. "Yicha" more like "Yi-naw."…read more I really wanted to like this place, but the experience just didn't justify the hype or the prices. The food looked like it was trying very hard to be trendy and "experimental," but underneath all of that, most of the dishes were surprisingly bland. Not bold, not nuanced, just lacking flavor altogether. For a restaurant positioning itself as elevated Korean-inspired food, the actual taste felt forgettable. The portions also felt wildly overpriced for what you get. Small plates are one thing when the flavor delivers, but paying premium prices for tiny servings that don't leave an impression is another. It honestly felt more like paying for branding and neon lighting than for quality food. And the biggest red flag? The restaurant was nearly empty at 7:30 PM on a Saturday night. In Highland Park where good spots are packed on weekends, that tells you a lot. Atmosphere and cocktails can only carry a restaurant so far if the food itself isn't giving people a reason to come back. I already know the response will probably mention "modern interpretations," or "playful experimentation," but none of those things excuse bland food and poor value. Reinventing a cuisine is fine but .... it still has to taste good.

There was a man sitting at the very end of the bar with his laptop and he acted like he was on something. Kept getting g up and walking behind the bar to grab canned drinks over and over. He must have been an owner/manager? My man, maybe if you stopped drinking your own supply the beer prices would be lower. Try to taste your food the speed you were eating looked like you were about to have a heart attack. Pros; it's a bar that opens at 12 Cons: ridiculously high beer prices

"I know a dark, secluded place A place where no one knows…read moreyour face A glass of wine, a fast embrace It's called Hernando's Hideaway, olé" --Ella Fitzgerald, 1963 OK, this may date me, but this is what I immediately heard playing in my head when we finally found Wife and the Somm this weekend. Glassell Park is a hidden neighborhood in Los Angeles, anyway, and if you don't know what you are looking for, you might zip right past W&S, as we did. Parking is hit and miss, but there are side streets and you will find a space if you give yourself an extra 15 minutes before you come. The neighborhood is mysterious to me, sort of pricey grunge & hipster, iykwim. But! Once you are inside, you are in a completely different world. Bright, clean, genteel, muted, with dappled sunlight dripping through various apertures and alighting in a soft glow here and there on shining metal tables. It's beautiful. Some catchy upbeat contempo-pop music streamed steadily at just the right volume overhead. I found myself resisting the temptation to get up and dance. There are several rooms from which to choose, but I wanted to be seated on the wine-red suede banquette that gave me a view of the whole restaurant and out onto the tree-canopied street. From the time we arrived to the moment we left about an hour later, we were showered with warm smiles and attentive service. And the food? Exquisite. See my pictures. It was hard to choose. One tiny disappointment was they were out of the biscuits that I wanted to start with, but I enjoyed the crusty tender Clark Street bread slices served with warm creamery butter instead. It only got better from there. The two bowls we ordered were filled with fresh vegetables, cooked to perfection, topped with an egg prepared as we requested, i.e., over medium. The portions are modest and it was all so good, we didn't take anything home. We ordered coffee and were brought two tall steaming mugs of Americano, smooth, dark, and delicious. Best of all was the Lemon Lavender cake, a seasonal specialty. Honestly, it might be one of the best, moistest, most flavorful and elegant cakes I have ever had. So fantastic, that I just ordered some lavender buds (if I don't collect them from our garden) to replicate it at home. I don't drink much alcohol but if I did, I would head here for one of their experiences or tastings -- they have a formidable list. Check all this out. And hurry if you want to have Lemon Lavender cake.

The restaurant already made a poor first impression, as there was an unpleasant smell inside as…read moresoon as we stepped in. Everyone also didn't feel particularly welcoming, from the hostess to the waitress (no smiles). Thankfully, we were seated outside for some fresh air, although the warm murky smell still lingered a bit outdoors. The menu seem fairly limited since nothing really stood out to me as especially exciting. I've studied the menu prior before going, and was only looking forward to their burger, but they didn't have it during dinner apparently. While the dishes were descripted very well on the menu, there was no depth in flavors. I'm talking about the pork belly, lamb chops, tartare, Spanish octopus, and especially the seasonal pasta. I'm happy that it wasn't overly salty, but overall the food tasted mediocre and felt a bit basic. I'm only saying this because I could make it myself, at least the lamb, fatty pork belly, and pasta. Portions were also on the small side. Service was a bit slower as it took some time to get seated and receive our food, and one of our dishes was forgotten until we reminded the staff after already finishing most of the meal. On the positive side, we were able to find easy street parking about a block away, and the restaurant itself has a cozy ambiance that would probably be great for a chill dinner with some wine. However, my group left still feeling very hungry and unsatisfied. To be fair, we came in hungry, and the portions and long wait didn't help.
