Despite what others said, the service was HORRIBLE. After we sat down, no one came to check on us and we had to wave down a server to be able to order. Not only that, but the food took MORE THAN AN HOUR to come out. During that, no one came by to check on us and again, we had to try to hunt them down to check on our food (at this point, it had already been an hour). Came here on world series day and Taco Tuesday. I don't think they were expecting so many people so service was a bit slow but friendly. Overall we had the tacos and the carne asada fries. I remember when this place was Barbarella Bar, and I believe I've been to a couple more concepts in this same space over the years, possibly all by the same owners. None of them seemed to crack the trendy Silver Lake restaurant code that would give them staying power on what I imagine is a high-traffic stretch of Hyperion. Mi Corazon is the latest, a fun Mexican restaurant with a full bar, where I went for a party last week. My friend was hosting, and she rented a private area with a large table and a buffet with enough food to feed anyone who hadn't eaten an easy late dinner. The place wasn't otherwise busy on a Tuesday night, and we were able to spread out and take over more tables, both inside and on the sidewalk patio. She also provided drink tickets and had a friend on DJ duty. The music got loud and there was a dance floor. Bar service was fast and friendly, and the drinks were quite good. I started with the Margarita Clasico, with tequila blanco, agave, and fresh squeezed lime. Classic and refreshing. I switched to a Guava Mezcalita for round two, and that was delicious, with La Tierra de Acre Mezcal, guava purée, fresh lime, and a black salt rim. I was hungry and the food was pretty satisfying. I helped myself to some elote, a birria taco, and a flauta de pollo. The elote was great, fire-roasted corn with mayo, cotjia, and Tajin. The birria taco was heavy in a good way, with stewy grass-fed beef in a crispy, cheesy fried corn tortilla, with onion, cilantro, and consomé. Likewise the flauta, an egg roll of flour tortilla filled with chicken, corn, black bean, and cheese, then drizzled with chipotle crema. I also helped myself to the guac, pico de gallo, and salsas available on the buffet. I can't exactly tell what Mi Corazon is like on a normal night, but it worked well for this party, with dozens of people coming through at different times, only some of them in need of tacos. The food and drinks were totally solid. Maybe this will be the Barbarella incarnation that sticks. read more

Stopped by here a few Fridays ago. I always drive by the area and I've always seen the unique decor from the outside and finally got a chance to check this spot out. The inside looks as spectacular as the outside. It has a very modern, dark, slightly goth artistic vibe and I love it. Sat down at the bar and checked out the menu. They have an extensive list of spirits which made it very difficult to choose. But I went with the Old Fashion de Oaxaca since I'm a bourbon guy but wanted to try something different and this mixed the basics of a traditional old fashion with mezcal. For sure a 5/5. Zyla (not sure if that's how you spell her name) the bartender was super friendly and helpful. I decided on the chicken flautas and the queso fundido. The portions are pretty decent for the price so no complaints there! Flautas were crispy and chicken seasoned well and the queso fundido was phenomenal. I ordered the Carnitas tacos which was good as well and also for my advertiser, which they charge you for is not complementary, but they have really good chips and salsa I recommend asking for that . Their drinks are really good too. I didn't take a picture of my Cadillac margarita but it was very good and all you need is one pretty much so you don't ripped off at all. The service was actually a exceptional having a huge party and you can tell they were shortstaffed, but they were very professional and very amicable, the whole entire time patient celebrated her birthday with friends in Miami even though it was pretty busy at the bar area and we had to wait a long time they still was very professional and attentive to us, and made sure Everything was right for our order. The only thing I didn't like is that the Russian were really dirty and I don't know because they were shortstaffed and it was Sunday brunch earlier that they didn't have time to clean the restroom but I feel like that should be a priority as well. It's no big deal, but having a clean restroom does matter a lot , hopefully next time when I come, it's cleaner than what it was this past Sunday. Inside it's not that big it's pretty small but they do have a little room if you want to have a celebration for maybe around 15 to 20 people that it holds. They also have a good brunch menu that I do want to try next time I come. However, the parking is not convenient they barely have parking on the freezer. You have to walk up a hill on the side street really far because it's nowhere to park but Street parking I do feel like they can have a valet service or something to make it easier for their patrons. Bottomless mimosa brunch is so fun and they have a dj playing all the hip hop, reggaeton, and rnb hits. The food is good too which is a major plus. They have an window wall so they open that up and you get that perfect LA weather and natural lighting! The drinks are really good but I did have to dock a point because it takes literally a lifetime to get a drink. When they would deliver a drink we would immediately order the next one right then and there because it's so slow. That's why if you can, get the bottomless mimosas because they give you a pre-made carafe so you don't have to keep waiting on them. Another thing that is kind of lame is that they charge for chips and salsa and weird things you ask for with your meals that typically you don't get charged for. The best part about this restaurant is it's only a few blocks from me so I can walk here, and the enchiladas mole. It's really pricey, even their Happy Hour drinks and food are too high. I don't mind paying a premium for quality food but this is Silverlake, not Beverly Hills. $42 for fajitas? I don't think so. And, if you come for the weekend brunch, it's really jumping, with a DJ and latin beats, but you won't be able to hear yourself speak let alone who you came with. Luckily I went on a rainy Tuesday in early evening, so it was empty and I was the only customer for most of my meal. The service was fine, but that would be expected as an only customer. Came here with a group of 11 to celebrate my best friend's birthday and left extremely disappointed. We arrived around noon, and the restaurant was completely empty. Despite that, it took about 25 minutes before we were acknowledged and received water along with chips and guacamole. Drinks took another 20 minutes, and unfortunately the Low Rider pitchers were terrible, very acidic and barely any alcohol. Once drinks finally arrived, our server disappeared for over 20 minutes without checking in. When we were finally able to order food, it was underwhelming at best. The rice and beans were bland, and overall the food was forgettable. The service was the biggest issue. For an empty restaurant, the lack of timing, attentiveness, and basic check-ins was shocking. Our server came to the table maybe three times total, only to drop items off. We couldn't get water refills or additional chips, and there was no follow-up whatsoever. For a party of 11--especially one prepared to leave over a 20% tip, the level of neglect was wild. Between the poor service, weak drinks, and subpar food, this was not an experience worth repeating. There are far better Mexican food spots in the area, and unfortunately, this one doesn't compare. I wouldn't return. read more

A perfect example of how certain people in the post yelp world can weaponize their sense of entitlement to try to give a really good restaurant a bad name. This was my first time here, and I enjoyed every part of the experience. Great vibe, really good michelada, and as the bartender Cindy correctly told me, the birria tacos are "bomb"! Cindy and another server came and checked on how I was multiple times, and the person I think is the manager came over twice to check on me as well. Oh, and before I forget the DJ was doing their thing as well. I feel sorry for people who can come to a spot like this, and force themselves into having a bad time. We waited a long time to even get greated and when they came to "help" us no hello but "do you have a reservation " abruptly. the restaurant was half empty and the man walked around helping others. comes to us finally to walk us to our table telling me "you will be asked to leave if the next party isn't here" i didn't feel welcomed. we noticed they treated others that were older the same, hoping they would leave. Love the decor of this place and they had a live dj for Saturday brunch, however we did have a reservation for 2 and if you come just as a party of 2 the tables are a little tight and not that many to choose from inside. Ordered some ahi tuna ceviche to share and it was excellent (I was tempted to order a 2nd one but we still had main dishes coming ). My husband has the fried shrimp tacos and he loved them. I had chicken flautas with 1/2 mole and 1/2 salsa oaxaqueña. I recommend you try the salsa oaxaqueña - not sure how it's made but it's a creamy and spicy, rich sauce that really complemented the dish. Our friends had fish tacos birria tacos with consomé. The staff was very attentive and beyond accommodating even though they had limited staff. I would love to come back and try their brunch it looks good and the atmosphere is fun. The place is small inside with limited seating but they have a few seats outside in front and a big table in the back of the restaurant for big parties. Due to the shortage of staff, the wait time was long for the food and drinks, but overall the performance of the staff was great. The food was decent and the drinks were good. It's a great place to hang out and have drinks or eat brunch. Parking can be very difficult and frustrating because they don't have valet parking or a parking structure so you have to park on the streets up on a hill or in front of the restaurant.
