Came here late one night driving back from an event since I've only heard good things. I got 2 tacos (asada and cabeza, 1 pollo quesadilla, a bean and cheese burrito and small bag of chips and guac. Everything came out to about $26 which is super reasonable! Service on a later end of the night was great! Super friendly and quick service. No indoor dining was available since they were closing in 15 mins. Food was ready in less than 10 mins. Salsa is free which both were delicious and had great flavor. Overall the food was delicious! Driving by I always see a line and read an article recently that Sonoratown is officially recognized in the California Michelin Guide - makes sense! I like that they were open late to satisfy a late night taco craving. Even though there is typically a line they are quite efficient with orders and even have a parking lot/outdoor dining space in addition to their indoor space so it doesn't feel cramped. It was my first visit so I had to get a mix of their tacos and burritos with the various meats they serve. It was a nice fact to know their tortillas have some lard also so it adds a nice flavor as well. + Burrito 2.0 (asada) + Chivichanga (chicken and beef) + Tacos (chorizo, tripe, cabeza, asada) I enjoyed the burrito with asada and thought it was good portion size for the cost. The guac, cheese, and beans pair well with the meat and has a nice grill on the tortilla. The tacos were a solid size as well but I was surprised to find the tripe as my favorite because they fry it and it adds a nice crunch/texture change. The cabeza was a close second with the stewed flavors. The chivichangas were also tasty but not the traditional chimichanga I was anticipating. It's definitely on the softer side as everything mixes together and there's not much of a texture change. Worth trying if you are curious though. I ordered to go so I didn't see if they have a salsa bar but I did have to pay $.10 per to go container which would be nice if they were free. However, I liked mixing their red and green salsa with each bite. I am curious to try their avocado salsa next time. I've heard so many good things about this place and finally got to try recently. My recent obsession has been with cabeza tacos and so that was the only thing I ordered here. The place that I usually go to finely minces/chops up the cabeza meat but here at Sonoratown, it comes in bigger chunks that you have to chew on. The flavor was definitely great, but I would say I preferred the texture and mouthfeel of a more finely minced cabeza taco versus the larger chunks. I do love green onions, so I like that Sonoratown will include a grilled green onion with your order. Also got the coconut horchata here which was yummy. Service is fairly fast - they just yell out your name and then will go around their whole seating area to hunt you down if you don't respond fast enough haha. There is a small parking lot for the plaza, but it is often crowded/you have to wait and get lucky. There is decent street parking nearby. read more

I ordered the Tacos de Cabeza along with the Carne asada burrito the tacos were good but I felt like the salsa wasn't hitting I tried both the red & the green. I loved my asada burrito the meat had as nice smokey good flavor & was loaded pretty well took me back to Mexicali & my trips to Taqueria Acatlán. The tacos were good I think they would've been better with a nice salsa with a little more spice. The tortillas were good I always love my tortillas de harina!. I feel like I must be missing something? I've seen Sonoratown on so many lists and guides for best Mexican so we finally decided to check it out. We ordered just a couple tacos - one asada and one tripa, based on reading numerous recommendations that those are what to get here. $3.50 a taco which is not bad for a restaurant taco. It's a cool casual vibe here. Seating inside as well as the patio. They have tasty looking horchata and other agua frescas. Colorful walls. They bring your food out to you by calling your name. The tacos were loaded with a pretty decent amount of meat and toppings. But sadly we were far from impressed by the flavor. The asada was okay and better than the tripa, but it paled in comparison to our go-to taco trucks in the area which only costs $1. And the tripa was strange to eat in taco form. The tripa is crunchy small pieces so it just feels odd to eat in a taco. Maybe if it was just served as an appetizer to eat by itself, but even then, it kinda just feels like you're eating pellets. TL;DR: Asada Burrito was good. Quesadilla was small and was like a messy taco in a different form. Food is good. We've been to the downtown location before and the menu was a little different from what I remember. Hard to find parking sometimes. Only counter seating inside with about six tables outside. Wanted to snack on chips while we waited and there are only two sizes: small which is a bag you would put a sandwich and chips in like when you were a kid taking lunch to school, and a large which was a big bag that you would buy like a part size Doritos with the labels and all. Note to the non-spicy fam: the green salsa is mild with a little heat but the red is definitely spicy so watch out. They don't have pico de gallo. We had an asada burrito which was surprisingly packed and even had guacamole in it. Appropriately sized for lunch so not some monstrosity but it's good and flavorful. We also got an asada quesadilla. It's ok but the cheese is just melted and everything was kind of "wet" still and hard to eat because it just falls apart. Also had an asada taco. Yeah it's good but can't really describe if it was much better than a taco truck. No fountain drinks but got a Jamaica agua Fresca and really felt it was too sweet. Probably just go with a Mexican coke or canned soda next time. Sonoratown is good and worth a trip back as well. I came to Sonoratown on a Sunday evening. It's located in a small plaza on San Vicente. Upon entering there wasn't too many people and had to think of what to get. They have a small-medium sized menu. Staff is very nice and welcoming and even helped me with what drink to order. For food, I ended up ordering the steak quesadilla. And for the drink, I got the mango agua Fresca. They have a good amount of seating in the back area of the restaurant and seating outside. I sat outside with my friend and an employee brought out our food. First off, the quesadilla was delicious, a perfect amount of steak, the tortilla was soft and you could tell it was quality. The spicy salsa was hot and guacamole was plentiful! Along with my agua fresca, it was a great meal. My friend ended up getting the burrito and it was delicious too! A good option for a bigger portion item on the menu. The prices for items are very reasonable! I paid under $10 for a quesadilla and agua fresca. Not your average LA street tacos. Sonoratown serves burritos and tacos wrapped in flour tortillas. As a flour tortilla fiend, I was in heaven my first visit and even grabbed an extra cabeza taco to-go and a pack of their fresh flour tortillas. Everything from the salsas to the agua frescas are so fresh and made with great ingredients. The staff here is great and so welcoming. I have tried much of the menu and my favorites are the cabeza and pollo tacos. They are so tender and packed with flavor. The bean & cheese burritos are simple but delicious, which says a lot about the menu. I love stopping by for lunch, a quick midday snack, or late-night bite. There's also a bar in the back and a shaded outdoor patio that's perfect for soaking up the sun with amazing food. Parking is available in the small lot out front. If full, the lot turns over quickly, or you can easily find street parking in the neighborhood on the next street over. If you're passing through this side of town, make the stop. The cabeza burrito 2.0 will be living in my dreams for quite some time. Just perfection! This place is amazing! I've been wanting to check it out for a while so I went in with some co workers - the place is casual and festive and colorful with friendly service and also definitely a popular spot when we went for lunch it was packed. There are some tables outside and some counter seats. As mentioned I got the cabeza (braised beef) burrito - think the most tender short rib but so so flavorful, can feel the love that went into making the meat, every bite was so good - and it had beans and cheese in a fresh tortilla that was grilled to perfection. Taking my visiting friend as she wanna try tacos in LA and I knew Sonoratown was one of those I loved in town that had nice seat down space. Not expecting it to be that busy on a Saturday night but parking was tad tough and there's quite a line for ordering. The service was pretty speedy despite the hectic crowd, which we really appreciated! Getting their tacos with cheese, one with chorizo and another with cabeza. If there's one taco spot in LA I'll happily go out of my way for, it's Sonoratown. This was my first time trying the mid city location(I'm usually a DTLA loyalist), and I'm happy to report it hits just as hard. Same warm vibes and friendly service, and that familiar smell of fresh tortillas. We ordered a couple burrito 2.0's with asada and a caramela taco with chicken, plus a horchata made with coconut milk to wash everything down. The burrito was loaded with perfectly cooked meat and packed with that Sonoran style flavor. The caramela taco is still one of my favorite bites in the city. The horchata was cold, creamy, and perfect palate cleanser between bites. Will definitely be back soon ordering the same thing without hesitation. read more

Delicious!!!! Came in with my family since we were in the area. My sister said they had really good tacos, so. We came in around lunchtime which was pretty busy! The line did take a while, but once we ordered food was ready sooo fast. I got the Lorenza and made it vegetarian and my fiancé got tacos. My family got tacos, and tried the caramelo. Food is 10/10 so delicious! Everyone agreed it was very delicious! I wish they had photos of how everything looked because the Lorenza was just a tiny tortilla, so you'll probably need more than one lol. It's kind of a smaller portion for a burrito but it was honestly the perfect size for me I was still full after. Beware!!! I'm honestly really upset about this. I had been to Sonoratown multiple times and genuinely loved the food. The tortillas tasted amazing, the quality was great, and I even recommended the place to friends. Then I found out the flour tortillas are made with pork lard. What makes this especially disappointing is that this is NOT clearly disclosed anywhere inside the restaurant. For people who are Jewish, Muslim, vegetarian, or simply do not eat pork for religious or personal reasons, this is a huge issue. I would have never ordered the flour tortillas had I known. I understand traditional recipes may use lard, but customers deserve transparency. There should either be: - a clearly visible disclosure in the restaurant and on the menu, or - a vegetarian/vegetable oil flour tortilla option available. It's honestly heartbreaking because the food itself was incredible, but finding this out after eating there several times made me feel sick and betrayed. This could easily be avoided with proper labeling and consideration for customers with dietary and religious restrictions. The burrito was a good size and the asada was perfectly grilled. Next time I would get 1 taco on the side because the Chivichanga was overkill. Sonoratown isn't reinventing the wheel. Their menu is simple and the execution is perfect. A burrito at a popular spot like this could easily be $18 and people would gladly pay. I really respect the effort to keep prices low. Huge fan of the original downtown Sonoratown, so this new location is a win--especially because I can swing by on my way home from work. It's easily 10x bigger than the DTLA spot, and yes... it has a bar, which immediately makes it feel like a glow-up without losing any of the charm. I came at a weird off-hour and ended up being the only person inside, which honestly made it even better. The menu is still the same street-style portions and prices. They could easily charge more, but they don't--and that's one of the reasons everyone loves this place. Food was great as usual, and I even ordered extras to take home because Sonoratown leftovers hit every time. Only thing I noticed: everything here was a bit spicier than the downtown location. The service and staff here is fantastic. Everyone is super friendly and they bring your food to you walking through the restaurant looking for you. I came here because I heard from multiple foodie sources that these were just the best tacos in Los Angeles and when I arrived, the place was packed like I was expecting, but to be honest I just thought they were good tacos. Not great, not bad, just just good tacos. Actually my chicken tacos were sort of overcooked and dry but not terrible. I really don't get all the hype about it but everyone seemed to love them. Went here with a group of friends on a Friday night. This was my first time here and was looking forward to eating Sonoran style Mexican food. Not all Mexican food is the same and Sonoran style is my favorite. The place was super busy, but the long line was moving pretty quick. The staff was super friendly and helpful in answering questions. They all were busy and focused; both in back and front of the house. A+ to all of them. I ordered three tacos (2 Costilla and 1 Pollo) and they were great. Good size tacos with plenty of meat and flavor. They were warm and very fresh. Unfortunately, they don't have rice which would have complemented my meal so perfectly. Hopefully they'll add rice at some point. My friends all loved their meals, too. There was a Costilla Burrito, a Pollo Burrito, a Chorizo Quesadilla, a Pollo Quesadilla, and sides of beans with chips and salsa. There is also a small bar with limited seating that's accessible from inside the restaurant or from the outside. None of us had anything from the bar. There is a small amount of seating both inside and out. We were lucky enough to grab an outdoor table adjacent to the parking lot. It was a typical beautiful LA evening. I will definitely go back to Sonoratown even though it's not in my neighborhood, but close enough. Had a great meal at Sonoratown! We ordered the pollo and asada tacos, chips and guacamole, and two aguas frescas (mango-orange and hibiscus). Everything was absolutely delicious. The tacos were packed with flavor, but the standout for me was the green salsa on the side, it was so good with the tacos and perfect for dipping the chips. The guacamole was fresh, and both aguas frescas were refreshing and complemented the meal perfectly. The restaurant offers open seating both indoors and outdoors, creating a relaxed and casual atmosphere. You place your order at the counter, and the staff brings the food out to your table. So, this place is known for their burritos, and having just eaten one, I can see why. But they're not for everyone. I had the Burrito 2.0, which, as their menu says, is "Your choice of meat, guacamole, Monterey Jack cheese, pinto beans,& chiltepin salsa." My choice of meat was the costilla, a.k.a. grilled steak, and it was a good choice. It was a very tasty burrito. And a good sized one, too. Not so huge that I couldn't finish it; not so small that I wanted a second one. The thing is, it had a lot of guacamole. Like a real lot. Some would say too much. Like they took a bunch of guac, put the other stuff into it, mixed it up, and put that in a burrito. Now, I liked it. As I said, it was tasty. And it was different. I've never had a burrito with so much guacamole. But I can see how this wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. Or cup of burrito, as the case may be. On other fronts, the place is clean, the food came out in a reasonable amount of time, and the staff were very friendly. They also have tons of seats inside, though they're all stools. The only chairs were in their small outside area. So it may not be the best plate for a social meal or first date if they have nice eyes you can lose yourself in. Also, the parking lot was constantly full. I suspect because Sonoratown shares the space with a 7-11. Now, there is street parking, but only on San Vicente. Anyway...will I be back? Probably. Fantastic food and reasonable prices. I loved the chimichangas which come in both chicken and beef varieties. These were by far my favorite.
