I've been going to different little bars these last couple of months. Every time I ask for a specific drink- PENICILLIN - I always get told they can't make it because they don't carry certain ingredients. It's ginger & honey, like c'mon.. I came across The Grayson & without hesitation X made it for me. He was so nice about it and he definitely didn't make me feel like I was asking for too much.. By far it was one of the best drinks I've had in a while. I'm a Redondo Beach local & I would absolutely make the drive down to LA just to have X make me another PENICILLIN. Stopped by last night and my experience didn't really go as expected. Its a nice little spot and the bar area looks nice. I sat at the bar and ordered an Old Fashioned which tasted watered down. After this, I knew all I needed to know and wasn't ordering another. I think my experience may have been different if the music wasn't being blasted to where you can't have a conversation and the lights they setup aren't blasting me in the face or blinding me from the reflection in the mirror. A lot of times a great bar is a cool venue, jarring decor, interesting and creative drinks, a buzzy and sometimes boisterous crowd. My wife and I's experience with The Grayson Bar was none of those things. The bar's decor is very nice: a long, highly polished wooden bar counter; a wall of top-shelf alcohol; a pleasing and pleasant vibe. Our drink, an Old-Fashioned, was very well made and generous. But what made the bar memorable and truly stand out was our bartender. My wife and I had a great conversation with him on a number of topics. Just a terrific person. The bartender some short guy was chillen with friends in the dance area. I was dancing with my drink at hand and he bummed into me and made me drop my drink all over my chest/boobs. There's also so much punk cool vibes in the back bar and live bands upstairs...if you're in the area, add it to your evening rounds. Saturday night, loud, and we ordered old-fashioned. The drink was not good. I've never had an old-fashioned made with Jim Beam as the primary whiskey. That probably explains a lot of it, especially when they had bullet and a lot of other options on their shelves. 4++ intimate, smallish bar located in DTLA. It's on the same block as Grand Central Market and connected to Fabby's Sandwicherie (the store front says The Grayson Bar, but I originally came to this location specifically for the sandwiches, haha). That said, you can actually order sandwiches/ food from the Fabby's and they actually could bring you your order if you decide to go to the bar and grab a drink - which is what I did. The bartenders here are very chill and friendly. When I went during the week, there was just a handful of other patrons here drinking. Definitely the type of spot where you go with a friend to catch up or possibly a good spot for early on in the dating cycle. The selection here is really great. They actually have a great stock of rare whiskeys. I would suggest with such a great stock, create a whiskey list for folks to refer to. I could almost guarantee that anyone looking at those type of bottles would appreciate a short list. The alternative is having to ask the bartender how much each of the pours are and I'm guessing it would get annoying for them to look up each price while others are waiting to be helped. Also, once I did find out how much the prices were for the rare bottles...it was a little rich for my blood. It's not too surprising since the location is in DTLA and the buildout looks pretty fantastic here. But for me personally, I would drink some of the more rare bottles elsewhere (I specifically have my spots). Not to take away from this place - I think it's a fantastic place to meet up for a drink and probably would order cocktails the next time I am there. read more

What a fun place for date night! Great drinks, snacks, and good times. My hubs and I arrived to have a few drinks with some friends and ended up staying for the whole night. There was a DJ that night and we danced, played pool and drank some more. The drinks are amazing! My favorite so far is The Rabbit Hole . The staff were so helpful and friendly too. Yes: fun times and good drinks! This bar is exciting in the main room once a month they have house/tech music with this promoter named Jenwa: she's amazing and so is the night! It's got a great a vibe filled with amazing music to dance to! I love the small bar vibe for this and then in the middle is a speak easy with a secret door! I had the most disappointing experience this time around. If you're ADA or idk, human, do not pass go and do not collect $200. Why? well this, yelpers, is a story about the day I came to #TheGrayson. It was after the Dodgers Parade. Spirits were high, patrons were having a good time, and there was a spot at the bar for lil ol' me and my girl. I politely asked the bartender (Bobby or maybe X I think) if they had a specific brand of vodka. It was loud, so I tried to repeat myself, and it still wasn't landing....so I showed him a picture (because I'm a helpful girlie). Instead of being a good bartender, BobbyX chose to get close to my face and say "You sound stupid." All because I asked about a brand. In a bar. Where they sell alcohol. Make it make sense. Also, for the sake of a good plot twist (and contrary to his backwards a** belief) I've actually ordered that exact vodka at this same bar last year...When I tried to disengage and speak to another staff member, he was like, "This is my bar. Don't ask anyone else." which shocked tf outta me (I even shed a tear). It just made him more aggressive and that's when my friend (and about 3 other ppl) stepped in like "Bro, what's your problem? Let's just calm down and have a reset". But he kept being condescending and repeating "This is a bar" like I somehow wasn't aware of where I was sitting. Sir, I am disabled, not disoriented. Even a regular who was ordering (chris I think) apologized to me FOR him after he got his drinks. He even offered to get me a beer because Bobby kept being RUDE AF. I think after that, he realized more ppl were starting to notice his attitude so he switched it up and asked what I wanted... as if I'm about to order from a dude who insulted me? Be FRFR. My girl ended up just asking him to apologize so we could all move on, and THIS guy DOUBLED DOWN...like WHAT BADDIE HURT YOU cause it was def giving I'm intoxicated and you remind me of a girl. That I. Once knew. What do you mean "No?" is good customer service in the bar with us right now? Look, I work in hospitality too and if anyone on MY staff talked to ANY guest like that (disabled or not) they'd be done that night, especially since he was intoxicated. This was a textbook example of unprofessional behavior & ableism at it's peak. It completely changed the vibe and we dipped right after. I will give a shoutout to security (Kevin) and the other patrons who tried to de-escalate tho, I appreciate ya! Def wont be coming back and probably should've recorded it, but it what it is. Management needs to address it fa sho, cuz let's be real, he not gonna get fired; it's hard out here for f &b folks. But idk losing business and treating customers like ish is not the move. Then again maybe BobbyX was Bluejays fan, drinking his sadness away (shot after shot) and all the dodgers love was getting to him. Therapy is an option, but "this is a bar"...so I guess that's how he's learned to cope and let's out his feelings? Wonderful atmosphere!! I love The vibe of the disco ball, intimate lounge seating, and wonderful staff that is very attentive with good energy!! I highly recommend trying the rabbit hole drink if you enjoy Mezcal drinks like myself. As a bonus, you can eat the wonderful hand rolls from Temaki Society. The Greyson is maintaining the operations of a nightlife in DTLA- an island of charm amidst the darker, intersecting streets. You enter through the street-level patio. Some menu items this recent evening included the tuna tartare taco; you know you are in LA when the 'bar food' is classier than unfrozen sliders and jalapeño poppers! The music was provided by a DJ spinning vinyl - Motown vinyl at that-! And upstairs, the Slipper Clutch was our destination. Several punk bands on a weds night- ya! The usual rum and coke was actually a root beer and rum- sweet, sure; but fun with the spicier root-soda. There is an outside patio, upstairs, which provides a look across an ally to the long-standing La Cita signage. Sound was well-managed for the intimate stage. We will be back, certain. :) read more
