They sell cigars but the patio is packed with cigarette smokers and people vaping. A couple people were smoking pot. Very strange. It's a cliche to roll up a $100 bill to snort coke. It's really hard to write this review and not sound like an out of touch whisky snob, but this is one place a whisky (and a whiskey) snob should thrive. Having been here many times over the past decade, I've discovered some great bourbons, scotches, and had some great cocktails. But those days are unfortunately in years past. In a place that prides itself in its whisky, the bartenders are sorely lacking in their knowledge around their own bar. With an extensive selection, I don't expect them to know everything, but bartenders not knowing what is meant by a neat pour (straight out of the bottle into the glassware, no ice, and not mixed) was unexpected. I'm getting the impression that while they still mix old fashioneds, a scotch such as Ardbeg is now an unusual and baffling request. I've been here a handful of times in the past few months, and it can be lively or dead, but it's now just any other bar. If you want a fun cocktail you can find anywhere else, this place will do, but unfortunately it's lost what has separated this bar from any of the other bars in dtla. read more

As Grand As it gets. I've been stopping in to Seven Grand for well over a decade now O.O and I still love this top notch whiskey bar lounge in Downtown Los Angeles. From fun nights out, special occasions, whiskey tastings, exploring the speakeasy... playing some pool, enjoying libations, taking in live music, perfect outings on the patio, the occasional cigar. So many great memories and experiences created here including some awesome date days with my other half. If stopping in for the first time you'll discover S.G. on 7th and Grand Avenue with a door person usually always at the bottom of the staircase just outside of the restaurant/cocktail bar Zaya (which has been many incarnations including Bar CDMX, V and Mas Malo). Provide them with a valid ID, as anybody over 21 should have a valid form of identification on them at all times, not just for driving or access to 21+ events or establishments, but for safety. And Seven Grand cares about everyone and their safety. They value their staff as much as their customers. And it shows in every way from thoughtful space in all directions, great pool tables, a whiskey, bourbon and scotch curated cocktail menu, even some good brew/beer. Awesome hallways with cabinet lockers, the cleanest restrooms, great dim dark warm lighting, fun fixtures and true DTLA vibes that feel old timey yet also very modern. Seven Grand is open to all and all are welcome. Stellar daily happy hour 4pm to 8pm. I love a good $10 Toki Highball at 5pm, but you can't go wrong with their classic old fashion also. All the bartenders are incredible as well as personable. S Grand is open every day from 4pm until 2am. Loads of lots close by as well as the Metro station at 7th and Metro. I stopped by on a Saturday night to order a cocktail and the Irish coffee was fantastic!! Our bartender Leo was super friendly and crafted a killer drink. When I arrived there was a live band playing and the bar had a nice chill energy that makes me want to return. STEPH JUDGEMENT: A downtown stalwart that's still doing it. I didn't realize I'd never reviewed this place! I used to come here fairly often in the early 2010s, but hadn't been in years. The hubby and I were doing a downtown staycation and decided to step in for happy hour. It was pretty much as I remembered: the bar is upstairs, with the Scottish hunting lodge theme intact--dark walls and mounted deer heads everywhere. Walk up the stairs and it's a mix of a pub feel but with more whiskey. Don't think this place is similar to a whiskey library type of place. There's a couple of pool tables, an outside smoking section, and another little bar area that served other drinks as well. Smoking area to the side. Pool tables. What else could you ask for? Oh did I mention the superior Whiskey list? The exceptional tenders that know how to make a drink? My favorite dranks here are: Old Fashioned. This is a staple here and yes this is how they are made. Always solid. Boilermaker. Whatever their well whiskey is, well its delicious. Hot Toddy. If you know you know. Im pretty sure this can cure any ailment. I recently tried a Big Mak. It was fresh and perfect for the warm weather outside. Note their cocktail menu rotates.
