This spot opened about a year ago, and has a cool speakeasy style entrance at the Highland Park Bowl bowling alley. It is a small space, and I would highly recommend making a reservation on Resy. You have 90 minutes to drink and dine. I parked behind the bowling alley where there is a medium sized pay parking lot. Park in a space, remember your space number painted on the ground, and go to the pay station at the end of the lot. I found the parking machine to be extremely finicky as did other people. After ten minutes of failure, I ended up moving my car to another space, and then it worked. This has nothing to do with the Lucky Tiki, but FYI if you park there. We walked around to the front of the bowling alley, and checked in. Seating options include at the bar, tiki hut booths, and high top tables. The décor inside is a tiki lovers paradise. The room has a high ceiling with many tiki lamps, floats, puffer fish, tiki huts, thatch, ropes, barrels, netting, carvings, a hanging canoe, and a large tiki right in the middle of the space. In addition to the great décor, when you order certain drinks, special effects are triggered. There was also great tiki music playing all evening. We sat at the bar since we always enjoy talking to the bartenders. We actually ran into Skipper Christian in the parking lot on the way in, and he ended up being our main bartender, with Nick and Jo also working behind the bar. We put in a food order right away. The chicken potstickers ($12) came with five tasty bites, and the garlic teriyaki dipping sauce was good. We also had the giant pretzel ($16) which comes with mustard, beer cheese, and ranch sauces. This was excellent, and the perfect filling snack before a bunch of drinks. My first drink was the Siren's Song (Flor de Cana Eco rum, lemon juice, cassis, Oloroso sherry, apricot foam topper, $19). This drink is served in a great mermaid with skull mug and triggers special sound effects and bubbles fill the air. Those bubbles on top of the drink had a great light citrusy apricot flavor, probably the best flavored bubbles I've ever had. The drink itself was very good and balanced with some complexity. She wasn't sure what to order at first, and Christian asked her what flavors she liked. He ended up making a spin on a Tradewinds with some mango and pineapple to go along with the apricot and coconut. It was nicely balanced and not too sweet, even with all that fruit in there. My second drink was the Sun of Suns (Tierra de Acre mezcal, coconut cream, Giffard mango liqueur, pineapple juice, lime juice, $17). This was coconut and pineapple forward with some good smokiness in the background. Her second drink was the Whatever Floats Your Boat (Ford's gin, lemon juice, velvet falernum, orgeat, passion fruit syrup, guava soda, topped with hazelnut passion fruit foam, $19). It is served in a cool boat mug, and triggers thunder sound effects and lighted mechanical Polynesian tiki characters paddling a canoe over the bar. This was another good balanced drink. It was a little gin forward and the passion fruit popped out, maybe from being both in the drink and the foam top. That creamy hazelnut passion fruit form on top is delicious. I'd happily have a glass of that on its own. We were still a little hungry so we ordered the Hawaiian pizza (marinara, diced pepperoni, red onion, pineapple chunks, hot capicola ham, $16). It was another good tasting, perfectly sized snack, and the crust was light and airy. We were already fifteen minutes over our time limit, but we got the green light to stay longer to order a third drink to share. We ordered the Tiki Diablo (Flor de Cana Eco rum, Worthy Park 109 rum, Alma Tepecha chile liqueur, orange juice, lime juice, mango syrup, guava soda, $24). This drink serves two people, is served in a cool volcano bowl with glowing red lava around it, and comes with a fire show. Unfortunately, right after it was served, the host came over and said we were over our time and had to leave shortly. Christian made up for it by giving us two tall pours to go enjoy in the bowling alley bar area which was fine. We were happy we got some extra time inside. The drink was also very good, balanced with a little complexity. We had a great time. There is so much great décor to look at. The drinks and food were very good, and some of the the drink presentations and special effects were the icing on the cake. All of the bartenders were very friendly and a lot of fun. We purchased up a few zombie glasses to take home as a souvenir. I'd definitely recommend visiting the Lucky Tiki in Highland Park!

This is how we ended up at Thunderbolt, a buzzy bar in Echo Park, just far enough away that we'd never made our way over. I loved it immediately. Thunderbolt has the friendly, comfortable atmosphere of a neighborhood bar and the hip aesthetic and high-level cocktails of a millennial boozer destination. (Not that young people can't or shouldn't hang out here, but it seems especially geared toward people like us, who drank at Walker Inn a decade ago.) We ended up sitting next to a guy who regularly drives up from Palos Verdes. I guess the place gets pretty busy, but it was ideal on a Sunday night. Happening but not crowded, with just enough space at the bar for us to grab two seats together. The bartender was great, super helpful and welcoming. He also made excellent drinks. Thunderbolt is one of those bars with an encyclopedic illustrated book for a menu. Not a long menu, just a detailed one, with a lot of information available about each drink. We got a Liquid Picnic and a Barcelonnette--just one round to close out the weekend. Both were delicious. The Liquid Picnic was a smooth, savory gin martini made with London dry gin, tomato, citron, vermouth, rosemary, and black pepper. I learned from the book that it used clarified tomato water. (There was also further reading about the clarification process.) The Barcelonnette was a mezcal sour with Suze, passionfruit, and lime, the foam made without egg white through some geeky mixologist process. Thunderbolt is not our neighborhood bar, but we plan to go back when we can to check out the rest of the menu. It's a wonderful place, well worth a jaunt on the freeway.

Very mediocre food for overrated price. Ambiance- 5/5. We are definitely paying only for the ambiance. If you don't care about the quality of food or service, this place can be a romantic date place. Otherwise, I do not recommend this place at all.

Never even knew this place existed until the lady who does my facials recommended it. Being a fellow foodie herself she couldn't stop gushing about the awesome drinks that were being made there. I couldn't resist. I rounded up the troops and three of us made our way to the Library Bar. First and foremost, parking is not the greatest. We ended up parking across the street and paying five bucks and we were about two blocks away (oh well, it is LA.) Once you get to this place it's totally worth it. What it lacks in space (the place is almost a closet) it certainly makes up for in flavor. We ordered two drinks each (six total) The first round was a strawberry balsamic with saint germaine foam (AWESOME!) a drink with arugala in it... (good but not my favorite), and the last was beet with horseradish (surprisingly delicious). The next round we had a bell pepper martini, a kiwi drink (again good but didn't stick out as well) and the special of the night which had a hops beer in it (fantastically fizzy.) I've never experienced drinks like this in LA, the Library Room is truly lucky to have this amazing bartender! (Matthew) If there was a Great Chefs for liquor he would be on it. Cheers Library Room, you will be seeing me again! Only downside... kinda pricey, $15 dollars a pop. Dam this place is no joke. They really have Hollywood service up in this joint. By that i mean the drinks here you can probably only find here. That is because the bartenders make each drink to your specific taste. They got no menu!! so this right here confused me with the prices which is why i knocked one star down, because not only rich stars want to enjoy this nice ambiance. I wanted to take this girl out on a date but boy did i go wrong here. Don;t get me wrong everything about it is quality but just that. This place is not a place to host a full blown bachelors party. It is a very nice cozy and neat place where one can enjoy the life-draining liquid we know as vodka. The bar here is a full bar and the bartender is pretty knowledgeable however I don't like to spice up my drinks so pouring vodka was the easiest thing for the bartender. The staff is also very friendly something not all bars do not have so thats one thing you have to keep in mind. The price is a bit on the higher end but in all honesty I do sincerely feel that it was well worth it. I almost missed this place as well. I met up with three of my girlfriends since I was in the area and enjoyed this cozy little bar! Amazing cocktails! Just tell the bartender what you like and KABOOM...you'll get an awesome concoction of an delicious cocktail. Rob, the bartender is super friendly and is willing to take feedback on the drinks he makes for ya, changing up the next one he makes so it's even better than the first. Yum! Super cool spot in the shadow of all the touristy hollywood shit going on near Grauman's. There is no menu. Just describe the liquor and accompaniments you would like and the bartender will skillfully craft a drink around your preferences. The drinks are expensive, but I had no problem paying a premium for art. I recommend valeting your car at the hotel. If you tell the staff that you're going to the library, they'll give you a ticket that can be validated at the bar. read more

this hole in the wall place in hollywood is my go to place when I'm looking for a chill place to grab some drinks and hand with friends. With their wide selection of mixed drinks and finger foods, library bar never seems to disappoint. There is no cover charge ( which is awesome ) and the bar tenders are super hot :D drinks range from $8-$15 and taster super good ! would definitely recommend to anyone who hasn't been before. It's difficult to give a place where you had the best cocktail of your life (the Vieux Carre) 4 stars, but here's why. Not only that one drink, but all the drinks I had/tried that my friends ordered were outstanding. A+ stuff. The ambiance was very good, just my kind of dark, handsomely furnished, intimate atmosphere. The 4 stars is because the bill came to $120 for six drinks only. Big fan of this place. It's incredibly cool without even trying. Affordable drinks and awesome music. The crowd is very eclectic so you will not feel out of place no matter your age, who you are, or what your style is. There's even a back patio for the butt smokers. OMG!!! Do I say that too much??? The Library Bar is like no other. Who thinks about a cocktail with Balsamic vinegar..? This place is outta this world. A friend took me as a pit stop on the way out and I couldn't leave. The bartender Matthew is the best. Only drawback is that everyone has discovered how good it is. They need a larger venue. Just saying, two separate girls hit on me in the women restroom. I suppose you can't really fault a place for attracting lesbians of the lipstick variety. It likely is considered a plus even but on to the drinks and interior. Lovely drinks made with awesomely fresh ingredients and SUPER pricey. If you got some cheese and want to got out and have a none cheap good time!!! this is it. Pretty small for my usual taste but the bartenders made up for that. Not only are they cute but they are gods at making drinks to your specific inquire. The drinks are a bit pricey but worth it. But you can totally get drunk here fast and spend all you cash. My husband, who happens to drink more loved his stuff as well! Every drink he made tasted so fresh and he would put stuff in the drinks that i would never think would be good!! Great ambience here. It has a nice lounge feel to it. A place to take a date to have some good drinks and intimate conversation but also a nice spot to relax at with your friends. The drinks are stout and there are some interesting books on the wall too. You might not do any reading in there but you might find something that would be worth picking up later on to actually read. read more

Very cool place to go on a Sunday morning, but you have to actually be a guest in the hotel to enter some days, and they will let you in (assuming they need more people) on other days so very inconsistent customer service, and the drinks are a bit too pricey. $12 for a margarita :O no thank you. Lower the prices and open the gates to everyone and you will earn 5 stars. :D read more

Yes !!this is the very small and very cozy lounge. Although this is not a big than the other, their service quality was better than around. There bar selection was great but the drinks price was not responsible at all. There was some good staff, they are always friendly with the customer. When I was coming back from the night clubs, a staff welcomed me for the next time. read more

If you think cocktails are supposed to contain Red Bull or Malibu, this is NOT your bar. Stay away. If you want market fresh produce shaken into a masterpiece with a spirited buzz, then you need to sit at the bar and let bartender do his thing. Seriously. The Last Tango in Modena will change your mind about gin. Guaranteed. read more

The best part of our stay at Roosevelt hotel was visiting the library bar and getting a wonderful drink. It was just what we wanted with a twist and so very refreshing after our horrible experience at the hotel. We def would go back again. The drinks are pricey at least $15-20 for a drink but def worth it!!! read more

We went to see a film at the Egyptian and went after to have a cocktail - it is historic hotel as well which if you are into LA history you have to go just for that. read more

The ambiance is pretty cool - sort of reminded me of the Portrait Bar in NYC with the paintings (albeit upside down). Ordered 5 different drinks between the two of us (no clue what the names are, sorry!): - a strawberry martini type drink - cocktail with fresh peaches - a tropical rum drink - a smoky whisky cocktail - a coconut rum drink Everything was on point delicious, nothing too sweet or boozy - thing the fresh fruit and herbs help quite a bit in not making something too sugary. The menus are aesthetic to look at because drinks are categorized by type of liquor, each drink described in detail and each description is accompanied by a picture of what the drink is supposed to look like. However, there is no food menu just alcoholic drinks. I found parking across the street where the CVS & WholeFoods are located. I didn't have any issues, but I only parked there for about 2 hours. Right before I left, the bartenders helped me discover a secret entrance to the bar next door. When you walk in you'll notice a bookshelf, if you slide that bookshelf to the right, you'll open the entrance to the bar next door. Pretty cool! Will definitely come back again.

And, I love their beauty and a kind of animal majesty they convey, so naming a womby bar after them and creating a dark haven to escape the chaos is a brilliant idea, in my view. When I want to bring visitors to a place that embodies Southern California, let's say in a "pub crawl" event, Jaguar will be at the top of my itinerary. Check out my pictures and their menu. In a place that prides itself in its whisky, the bartenders are sorely lacking in their knowledge around their own bar. With an extensive selection, I don't expect them to know everything, but bartenders not knowing what is meant by a neat pour (straight out of the bottle into the glassware, no ice, and not mixed) was unexpected. I'm getting the impression that while they still mix old fashioneds, a scotch such as Ardbeg is now an unusual and baffling request. I've been here a handful of times in the past few months, and it can be lively or dead, but it's now just any other bar. If you want a fun cocktail you can find anywhere else, this place will do, but unfortunately it's lost what has separated this bar from any of the other bars in dtla.
