What a rad bar! This place is what I envisioned a 'dive' bar to be in Hollywood. I met up with some fellow fans of a band we going to see at The Fonda Theater. The decor is retro and glitzy and makes you feel like you are stepping back in time into a world of neon. There was a decent amount of people there for a Thursday afternoon, but the noise level wasn't too loud. We could have conversations at a normal volume and not have to yell over each other. The bartender was very personable and able to keep up with everyone and didn't leave anyone waiting to get a drink. Looking for a classic Hollywood dive bar? This is it! People from all walks of life come here. I ordered an Old Fashioned, which isn't my go-to, but I asked the bartender for his favorite cocktail, and it was surprisingly good and strong. This is a dive bar with a solid drinks selection. My wife ordered a Coke since she wasn't in the mood for anything alcoholic. There were some interesting characters day drinking, and it was great people-watching with lots of regulars. The interactions were priceless. The bartender asked a regular if he'd left his helmet, and when he showed it to him, the regular quipped, "My head is bigger." The helmet looked like a kid's size, and the guy did have a small head. It was a funny interaction in a room full of characters, like something out of "A Confederacy of Dunces." The bouncer checking IDs outside, sporting a Santa hat, noticed my wife's upcoming birthday and wished her a happy birthday. It was a really nice touch! Amazing dive bar with a classic artsy ambience right next to the Hollywood Pantages theatre! It's a walk in only establishment with a setup similar to most bars - order at the bar and seat yourself at wherever there is space. Given it's Hollywood, I was expecting things to be pricy but we were amazed that cocktails (albeit well cocktails) were only $9 with some more complex drinks a bit higher - my friend said 8 drinks plus tax came out to be $92 which is not bad at all compared to many cocktail spots, though prices match the quality as you're not here for craft cocktails, but rather decent drinks to get you buzzed for the night. There's no menu. I settled with a dirty Shirley temple and my friend got me a Cinnamon Toast Crunch shot. I also tried the green apple martini too. Drinks were good but not excellent, but I can't complain about it much given the price! read more

Located in Hollywood, right by the Hollywood Walk of Fame, parking isn't easy. I parked in a surface lot a block or two away. Ambiance (4/5): Frolic Room has been around for a long time. Celebrities have stopped by. That sort of history is always awesome to experience. Frolic Room gives you that old school Hollywood vibe. It's a narrow bar. Dimly lit. With some seating at the bar and at barstools. A couple of TVs. You can learn about the history of the establishment by reading some plaques on the walls. Very cool. Service (4/5): I sat at the bar and was greeted promptly. Placed my order and closed out. Smooth. No complaints. Food (N/A): To my knowledge, they don't serve food. Drinks (2.5/5): This is where things were a bit disappointing. They don't have a menu. You can basically just order the beer they have on display or they have a full bar. So you can order a rum & coke, gin & tonic, etc. Simple cocktails rather than the more elaborate cocktails you'll find at a lot of places. Despite not having a menu, the prices here are affordable (especially by California standards). Always a plus. If you're looking for a place with some history, check them out. It also makes for a convenient stop after checking out a performance at the theatre next door. read more

This histori, 83 year old cocktail bar opened its doors in 1941 and has been serving up a wide range of customers of all kinds, from all walks of life for many decades, and nearly a full century. Located on Hollywood Blvd between Vine St and Argyle Ave directly across the metro station, W Hotel and neighbor to the Pantages theater along the Hollywood Walk of Fame this room of sorts has been graced by many talented entertainers and somehow keeps its same charm, grit and prices making it an easy fav. $3 draft beer during the day, um yes please! And my friend's cocktail, not much more! We even met the kind owner (since 1979) while here and he was really friendly and laid-back, taking in the Sunday Funday crowd and keeping cool in the corner. It's dive bar galore in all the best ways, very limited space and seating. I've been in once or so before in the past, but never for more than a beat, so it was a true treat to pop in during LA pride weekend where all are definitely welcome and respected at this little establishment. They have gender neutral restrooms, cool wall art, a full bar (though limited brews/beer selection), awesome bartenders and a digital juke with free play. I showed up at around noon on a weekday and the place was about half full. One of my favorite cocktails is a Manhattan, so that's exactly what I asked for. My wonderful, friendly server Matthew asked if I wanted it "up" so I said sure and told him to pick the booze. It was amazing. Matthew used Maker's Mark and an unknown vermouth to assemble one of the best Manhattans I've ever had (and I've had quite a few). The balance was perfect. I wound up drinking two of them, it was such a delectable concoction. It didn't hurt that I absolutely loved the dimly-lit ambiance. Well ain't this the perfect dive bar. While visiting LA.a good friend took me here to get some drinks to get the night started. I loved the views e and the bartender knew .ost people on a first name basis. Turns out he'd been working there since his early 20's now he's grandpa status and has.t slowed down not a bit. He handled the bar like a problem and everyone got their drinks served with swift essentials. At thw time there was a game going on and most patrons were fixed on the tv with cold drinks in their hands. There were tunes on in the background that only got louder when a commercial came on and I appreciate rated it. Just went to Frolic room on 4/18 to pregame with some co-workers/friends prior to hitting a show at the Fonda. I've always wanted to try it because it's right next door to the Pantages, and I pass it everytime I go to a matinee. It's your typical dive bar, nestled in the heart of Hollywood. Not much parking around, unless you get lucky in finding a metered spot, and/or you decide to spend 30$ parking at one of the lots The bar is cool, small and busy. I can't tell you how much drinks were, because friends paid for me. I got an amaretto and coke, and boy was it strong for a drink that usually tastes like a dr. pepper lol bartender def had a bit of a heavy hand with the amaretto As an LA local, it's not on my list to go back, because of logistics etc, but if I'm in the area and wanting to catch a drink in a bar with a cool vibe I'd hit up the frolic room first read more

Is there a better bar in Los Angeles? That's the question that needs to be proven wrong. It has all walks of life there in smallish but big setting. Long bar, great photos on the walls(nostalgic from the old days of the bar), and really different lighting you have never seen. Never seen any anger from patrons or the good people that are there making your night special, whatever the reason your there. Musical next door, bad day or great day at work, or there celebrating life in all its smallest forms. The bartenders Reuben and Jason? (I hope), so helpful, nice beyond reason, it's always busy and they're just humming along doing their thing. So if there's a better bar in Los Angeles I've never been, so for now I'll count this as #1. read more

The Frolic Room has been a cocktail bar in Hollywood since 1941. They have cocktails, mixed drinks, draft beer, and bottled beer. They also have a juke box. It is a famous dive bar and a visit is a must if in Hollywood. it is just fun. They have really nice bouncers outside, one at a time is all they need. They change people a lot or I just go on days when the regular guys have a day off. There is really no need anyway, I have never seen a problem there. They are not going to overserve you, getting just plastered there is not what you are going to do. If you do drink there, know the drinks are strong, so think about that before you get in a car. You can get and Uber or whatever with ease. Going with friends is super fun. The bartenders are great and make fantastic drinks. They know how to make anything. They are also nice to the designated driver--I am often the one. It is clean and safe. It is located right next to the Hollywood Pantages theater. It is small but it has the coolest neon sign that you will be able to see. Parking can be a bear on the street, mind the many signs. There is parking just about a half block away in what is called Eastwood Parking, or something like that. Hollywood burger is right across the street if you want a fast bite. I love this place. He asked me to move seats bc there were 5 drinks in a row at the bar, nobody was outside or in the restroom so I guess this is a reservation only dive bar? Weird af. Then the other seats had dirty glasses in front of them that he made no effort to clear even though he wasn't making any drinks. Also, the bouncer didn't even look at my ID. This place is basically if Cheers sense of humor was a bit more playfully wicked. I had heard of this place based on a podcast. It lived up to the hype. I stopped by for one drink to kill some time and mark it off my list, and was immediately greeted by one of the friendlier bartenders I've ever encountered. While this isn't a craft cocktail place, I had an amazing vodka drink and was treated to a Fernet shot by an extremely entertaining, affable, and engaging regular. I got my drink spiked here on 11/21/25. I paid with a bill from a wad of cash and I left my drink for one minute at the bar when I went to the bathroom. When I got back I had a few sips and started to feel really dizzy and heavy. My vision went almost entirely black I sweated heavy and almost passed out on the bar. After about 15 minutes the effects peaked and I started to regain control of my limbs and regain vision. The lingering effects lasted for hours. I suspect the bouncers are in on it. One bouncer, black male with a flat cap/leather jacket who stays by the bathroom approached me and wanted to shake my hand for some reason. He didn't speak to me, watched me closely, and then wanted to shake my hand. He didn't ask if I was okay or anything. Just came up to my side and made eye contact and shook my hand. A white blonde female 30s with rings on her hands was sitting very closely to me when I went to the bathroom. She drank beer and fireball. I suspect she was involved. I'm very lucky I only had a few sips of the drink before I stopped. I drank 1/4 of the beer and left it 3/4 full and it was the only alcoholic drink I had on a full stomach. No prescriptions or recreational drugs. I asked the bartender for a test strip. When I showed him that it had turned blue/green indicating ghb or ketamine and told him I felt really badly and that I thought someone spiked my drink he said "its never happened here" and walked away. He did give me a few bottles of water and checked on me a couple times, but he seemed unconcerned and offended that I suggested my drink was spiked. When I left, the door bouncer was staring me down as I got into my uber. Heavyset black guy. No goodbye, nod, or wave. Just staring me down as I got into my uber. Very atypical for a doorguy at a neighborhood bar. read more

You don't have to go to the Pantages to have a reason to stop in at the Frolic Room. I insisted to our group that we must stop in here for a drink, even though the other option was sipping a cocktail on the rooftop of The W Hotel. I'm a simple gal with simple needs, so the Frolic Room was calling and we must go. This is as predictable as getting a burger from In-N-Out, it never disappoints and it is always consistent. Our bartender, Blade, was exceptional, pouring generously and with a smile. With a name like Blade, conversations must be started as there are a few tattoos that suggest he truly appreciates his name, and I appreciated the stories. The Frolic Room simply isn't a Dive Bar, it's a place where you can sit next to a millionaire as well as the town drunk. It's a place where you feel safe going to the bathroom, because yes, they have a security guard standing near by. It's a place you must go, as it reeks history and the smell of beer, it is a landmark that won't cost you a fortune to visit, and it's a place to create memories while enjoying a well poured cocktail or pulled beer. the bartender who's been there a long time is a super cool guy and that's the ONLY nice thing i have to say. Now... the absolute brain dead miserable pricks that they get to bounce... oh my god. BOTTOM of the barrel... and not just one of them btw. last night i walked up (w my american passport that i use at EVERY bar in the world no problem) to the older black dude who was bouncing and i say hi, smile, hand it to him, (not even buzzed at this point btw) pulls his flashlight, studies it for a whole ass minute, while intermittently flashing me suspicious sh*tty little judgmental glances and the rejects it because "how do i know this is you... it doesn't have height or weight or eye color" and just said "nope, i won't accept it, not gonna do it" i said "i can travel to EUROPE w this ID but i can't get in the Frolic Room???" my friend has the Passport Card, he wouldn't take that either. only place we've ever had this problem. such a smug, crusty, dusty, lead paint stare attitude and i had round my friends up from inside to go somewhere else. omg it makes me so mad. Our group came here before walking over to the Palladium for a show and we were quickly helped. We ordered a few rounds of shots and a few Jameson and gingers and we were on our way. I was trying to get in on a casual afternoon and the bouncer took five minutes to even check my ID because he was telling some guy outside how if some other guys girlfriend showed up he was going to "smash her face in the pavement and then make her suck my .......".
